Hi everyone, I just got my Galaxy S4 Active. I've done my TowelRoot'ing, my AWS unlock for T-Mobile, and my MF1 downgrade with the region unlock tool and safestrap installed. I was wondering a few things though.
I know the phone is water resistant but I notice that the headphone jack has no cover, is that a problem? Also my Active came without a cover for the usb slot, is that a problem? I read that some people are wirelessly charging their Actives, which would be fine with me, just cap the hole and charge on a pad but I can't seem to find a back that will charge, or a thread that doesn't state the phone will not be water resistant anymore.
When I try to install a Rom with Safestrap I get it to reboot, and continue with the little robot all lit up then it either flickers and reboots, or flickers continuously till I do a BP.
One more question, I've read over the forums and such and I've mentioned what I've done, are there other things I should do for my active? I have a tempered glass screen cover on order, and an Otterbox is going to be ordered next week.

I'll try to answer your questions one by one:
The headphone jack is fully water resistant without a cover so there is nothing to worry about there. The cover missing from the usb slot is an issue, it's essentially like punching a hole in a boat. The water resistance is completely compromised.
There is no wireless charging back from the S4 Active because no manufacturer wants to be responsible if there is water damage. There is a thread in the General talking about how people have got wireless charging to work with charging inserts, but the consensus is that you will lose water resistance as it will break the seal on the cover. I saw one person mention that there was a third party battery with wireless charging built in, so you could try to find that and keep water resistance, however you will sacrifice NFC.
As for SafeStrap, you need to have the right version of SafeStrap installed (for MF1 it's version v3.65). With 3.65 you can create and install ROMs to ROM slots, this functionality is broken in v3.73. Finally, because of the way SafeStrap works, on MF1 you can only install 4.2.2 TouchWiz-based ROMs. If you want to use 4.3 or 4.4.2 TouchWiz-based ROMs you're going to have to upgrade your stock ROM to either 4.3 or 4.4.2.
If you haven't already installed Xposed, I suggest giving it a try and install the Wanam Xposed module along with it. It can customize nearly every aspect of your stock ROM to the point that it looks like it could be a custom ROM. Good luck.
Is there a Wanam guide? I don't like tweaking things so far that function breaks, and I read that if I get off of MF1 I lose AWS which I need being on T-Mobile.

Hey all,
i have an issue with my usb flap. I can close it, and the phone allready survived some water. But as a mechanical engineer i am not happy with the seal for the usb port.
I try to explain it: when i close the seal it keeps popping out a little bit. Depending on which side i press in first (Top or bottom) the other one pops out about 0.5 to 1mm. In the end the flap seems to feel more comfortable in the position where the top side stays out. Some employee told me that is normal, i had nothing to compare so i have to believe him for the moment. Thats why i ask you guys if your device has the same or not.
Thanks for your help. Sorry for my english.
Greatz
I have the same problem currently. This is my second Active. The first didn't do this. I'm considering a warranty replacement, but I don't want to spend the time setting everything up again.

Open the flap, then pull it just a tiny bit so the side section is exposed (you pull in the direction of the power button side of the phone, so to the right just a bit). When you insert it, you need to slide that section back into the area it's designed for, pressing down on the left side somewhat firmly (left in terms of you staring at the screen). When that's done, press down on the right side so it's flush - so the whole cover is flush with the bottom of the phone.
There's actually two "levels" of it being closed: the first is close to being flush but not completely; this level kills the water-resistant feature and your phone too if you don't seal it properly and dunk it.
The second level is when it's truly in place, and you can actually feel it when it "snaps" into that position - when it's truly in place the cover is totally flush with the bottom surface of the phone.
Just something I had to come to understand myself in my short period of time owning the GS4A.
Might be helpful info, might not, but that's how I've come to understand it and seal that USB port cover personally without issues.
My cover has been getting worse. I can still get it to snap into place, but I have to get it positioned just right or it does not seal completely. I think that it will probably break off soon and become lost. Does anyone know if the seal is easily replaceable? I haven't seen the part listed on the parts thread. It is frustrating to think that the only option may be to send it back to replace a 10c part. Considering the design intent of this phone, I certainly thought that Samsung would have developed an inductive charging back long before the USB seals would start wearing out.

Hear's another thing (pun intended) about that microUSB port cover: it works in conjunction with the speaker as well meaning that whole bottom section is a "woofer" port enclosure, basically, taking the term from speaker enclosure technology.
When the cover is in place and sealed properly, you get "more bass" (ok it ain't much but it's very noticeable to me) when audio is coming from the speaker. If you remove the cover while audio is playing, voila, it turns all tinny and full of nothing but very high end frequencies. And when the cover is in that first level of being attached, you still will hear mostly high end frequencies - only when it's properly in place and the seal is in effect does the audio tone change, at least in my situation.
Just something I noticed, thought it was somewhat cool the first time it happened, I thought I had broken something when the audio took on that high tinny and harsh quality.
Mine broke last night and called samsung the tech guy telling me thats the fist time that the seal port cover broke.and I have to wait 2weeks to get it done.should I go att instead but not sure they will replace this thing...

Both of the ones I have are the same as this. I've had to really explain to the missus that she can't just 'sorta' close it otherwise it's not waterproof any more. I haven't had any issues yet but as soon as that wireless WiQiQi proves itself battle worthy (or at least doesn't mess up the seal on the back) I'm putting in for 2 of them ASAP. I haven't used any sort of wireless charging yet but I'm pretty confident that I won't ever buy a phone that doesn't have it ever again, same as I won't ever buy a non-waterproof phone after the Rugby Smart and the S4A have proved themselves worthy.

Mine unfortunately never snaps. I can push it to the desired position, but it never stays there.
So I have to replace it.
Hate this just because of one little part...
From mechanical view this problem seems logic. The seal fits into the housing and the USB port. The housing is connected to a print board and the USB port is on the print. The seal must fit very exactly and over this array of possible small failures a exact position is hard to get...
Greatz and thanks

If I can make a suggestion, take it as such for those (of us) that have the GS4A and may or may not be having issues with the microUSB cover/flap/etc:
Personally I can't wait to get my GS4A set up and working with a wireless charger. I'm still on the fence at the moment over which one to get/use but I'll figure it out. But because of the fact that I hate plugging and unplugging the GS4A (or any smartphone) and knowing that each time I do it I'm just creating that much wear and tear on the microUSB port, I purchased the app called Wifi File Transfer Pro a very long time ago and I have never had one single moment to regret the purchase (that means I LOVE IT).
I'm not a shill for it, but honestly, for a buck and change there's no better such app on the Play marketplace that I've been able to track down and I've tried about 30 of them meaning apps that allow you to connect to your device over your Wi-Fi network for file transfers to and from the device, etc.
The only reason I plug my GS4A in is to charge it these days and I'm just getting tired of doing it as frequently as I do because... I currently have a cheap Samsung counterfeit battery - learned the hard way with that one - but I have a real Samsung battery on order, should be here by Friday, purchased with that 50% off code they gave me for registering the GS4A with Samsung a few weeks back.
So in a few days I'll have a wireless charger, a real legit Samsung battery (brand new, even), and I'll use the microUSB port one last time, hopefully to do a proper full charge on that battery (with a 2A charger, even) and then once that's done I'll close that flap with the intention of never opening it again.
But seriously, if you're doing a lot of transfers to and from the phone for whatever reason, look into that app - Wifi File Transfer Pro from smarterDroid - or some other such wireless transfer app depending on your needs and wants (because there are several dozen of them on the Play marketplace and take the wireless route. Yes, using the microUSB is faster overall because it's a hardwired connection but I typically get 6-10MB/s using this app and my 11n network.
Go truly wireless or go home and save that microUSB port just for emergencies...

Mine broke off the first week I had it. Horrible design. Terrible application. I kept the plug but since I am constantly plugging in to power up it is more of a hindrance than a feature. Wireless will be an issue unless they will fit inside a protective case. The Active is already too thick to fit in most cases made for the regular S4.
It's the same thickness as the GS4 for the most part, barely a millimeter difference, but the GS4A is a bit longer top to bottom. There are a lot of cases available now for it that accommodate the differences (longer body length, slight expansion at the end rubber caps top and bottom back, etc). Those Diztronic ones are some of the thinnest full body cases I've seen so far but I went the Unicorn Beetle route and have been nothing but happy since I first put it on.
Yes the flap could have been done better I suppose, but I've got a cheap LG prepaid using a similar mechanism with the microUSB port cover and I've plugged unplugged that phone a thousand times over the years, still works fine.
Sometimes I think people should just take better care of their hardware...
A soft case without an opening for the flap would be nice Than it looks better and we can not destruct the flap
I've had my Galaxy S 4 Active for about a month now and one thing that really concerns me is that the waterproof cover for the USB port is really difficult to insert after charging. It was ok for the first week or so but now I have to try several times before it looks like it's seated properly. I'm concerned that as this port gets opened and closed more than the others it's developed a faulty cover and won't be water/dust proof when I need it to be.
Has anyone else noticed anything similar?
As my cover became more worn, I had to close mine a particular way to get it to seal. I'll do my best to explain it. Grab the cover between your left forefinger and thumb. Bend the cover slightly and show the cover to the left, which forces the little tether to slide into the phone without buckling. Then you can snap the cover closed fully. At least, it works on mine. I used to be able to just pysh it closed when it was new.

Hello folks,
I bought a z3c today and it will be arriving by the end of week or next week, and i am trying to get ready for when the phone gets here!
So, what the first thing i should do when receive the phone?
I am thinking in root and backing up the DRM keys just to be safe! Any suggestions about it?
Is there a way i can verify if i did it right?
After that i will try to stick with stock sony rom, i am pretty sure i wont happy enought so i will have to flahs custon ROMs.. but i will really try to stick with stock. I am tired of having "small" but anoying bugs with me phone because of custom ROMs.
Any suggestion about it also?
Well, i guess that is it.
Thanks to all!!
First thing you should do is get a tempered glass screen protector for the front, and TP protector for the back (to prevent sliding on smooth surfaces). Or, get a case if you prefer. Then, get a charging dock or magnetic charger because you will want to minimize the number of times you open/close the USB flap. Finally, root and enjoy!
Though, I'm finding that new phones (and apps) are increasingly making root access less necessary for me. I figure I'll wait until my warranty expires before trying to root this one. It's almost perfect already.

Any recommendations for protectors front/rear or are they all about the same quality?
Rule of thumb: Don't spend less than $10 USD on a screen protector and you'll be fine. There's a thread in the accessories sub-forum about screen protectors with better reviews and suggestions than I could give.

In the accessories section you'll really find everything you need.
The first reply on your question really summed it up mostly, as for the software side, you really don't have to back up your drm keys, you can't lose them by accident unless you attempt to unlock your bootloader. Unlocking your bootloader isn't necessary to aquire root, only to use another kernel so you should be just fine.

Thank you all!!
I am looking right now for an magnect adapter! or cable.
I think the adpatrer makes more sense as i can bring it with me when needed!
As for the DRM, i will probaly change roms to try it out, so thats why i will back them up!
I also got my Z3C 2 days ago....
Earlier I was using a N4 & was planning to root my Z3C ASAP but after using it i feel i can live without rooting it....
I ordered a magnetic cable & a case initially, and ordered matte screen guard instead of tempered glass (i may buy it after a few months)
My Nexus 6 fell and the display broke. Not the screen but the display. The scratch's are inside. My device still works but I can't see anything and the touchscreen doesn't work.
What display/screen replacement should I buy?
I was thinking on buying this one: http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-576031511-pantalla-touch-marco-motorola-nexus-6-_JM
Please check the link and tell me if it's the right thing to buy. Thanks in advance.
A pic of how it looks:
That's the right one.
That replacement has the frame too, if you want to save money and your frame is still in good condition you can just remove the existing frame from the broken screen, no need to worry about hurting the display as it's already broken so just break it loose, in pieces if you have to lol. Then just get one without a frame, just be sure to check the descriptions to be sure they include adhesive tape pre-applied or get a roll of 2mm 3M double-sided adhesive tape for $2 and do it yourself. While your at it you can also use the tape to re-secure your back cover after removing it if it needs any.
::EDIT::
Here is an example of one without a frame:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00X...eywords=nexus+6+replacement+screen&th=1&psc=1
That seller it's a $40 difference in price without the frame. Also note how the speaker grills are attached to the frame, NOT the AMOLED. Keep that in mind when taking off your broken screen from the frame. If you are unsure if you can do it and feel safer just getting it with the frame, take 10 minutes before ordering and just try to seperate the broken AMOLED from the frame, if you succeed and find it by looking at it just how the new AMOLED panel would attach to the old frame then save $40 and get just the panel, it's already broken, might as well give it a shot, if you don't think you can attach the new panel to the frame yourself after removing the broken panel, order the one with the frame. ?
Thanks guys. I've got some more questions.
What process should I follow to replace the screen, should I dissemble everything? Any video tutorial you would recommend?
And, I've noticed that the phone doesn't heat up when I charge it as it did before (I have a Turbocharger), is the device ok? Is it normal that it doesn't heats up?
It's normal to have it not heat up when charging. Mine doesn't.
Jerryrig Everything has a good teardown video you can use.
What seems weird to me is that the phone usually heated up even if i wasn't using it (I guess fast charge) but now it doesn't.
Is there a way to know if it's charging or know the battery level other than looking and the screen? Because I can't see anything.
You should let the battery completely discharge, so the device turns off. That will help to prevent electrical damage to the components when you are disassembling the phone.
Letting the battery drain to zero is bad for the battery, for one. For two, the battery will be one of the first things disconnected, thus there will be no component damage.

Typed up a long response then posted and ticket was expired lol. All I can think of right now is the phone still works, just can't see anything. Let the battery die, call the phone to see if it's dead or rings/vibrates. After it's dead plug her back up and see if she starts, can call again to check if it's in fact booted into Android. Maybe someone else can think of a better way, I take it you don't have the LED enabled for charging so that sucks. Like the previous poster said, it is not advised to let the battery drain 100%, one time however won't hurt, just don't do it repeatably. Hope you successfully get her up and running again I still have my pre-order Nexus 6, never a screen protector, just a Seidio Dilex Pro case and not a scratch on the beauty, someone needs to make a SD 835 phone with dual front facing speakers before I upgrade!

when you buy a used gs5, MAKE SURE YOU TRY IT UNDERWATER AND CHECK IT FOR WATER DAMAGE!! (www(dot)verizonwireless(dot)(com)/support/knowledge-base-142121/)
I just bought mine 2 days ago, this morning I discovered that it is water damaged (the little things are red) so I tried it underwater and surprise surprise it died.
I am so sad now because it was gs906s model (s5 prime) which ise very rare / expensive in my country. I tried contacting the owner but he said "when I sold it it was working !" really??!! I did put it now in rice and who knows...
i hope you get my point and sry for my english
Why would you be that stupid to put your device in water, even though it is second hand? The glue used for the front softens up with time and starts to lift, breaking the water seal. NEVER put your device in water, even though its IP67 rated. Good work, dingbat. You wasted a very good device, even though you saw the water damage indicators were red. This is not a guide, and it should not be named as such. There are many other things that need to be tested on a SH S5, like the AMOLED, all the sensors, the cameras, the accesories, the flap over the microusb 3 port, etc. That is the least of your concerns.

quick update : the rice method worked!!! I relived it from rice and everything is working as far as I know...
ps: after putting it in water I checked the usb port and there were no water there.
I want it to be waterproof(thats why I bought it) do you think buying an original back case will be enough ?

What the actual F. Whatever. Original back cases are very hard to come by, because most battery covers are fake, but if you are lucky enough, then it could work. To tell you something, my G900F, SH, has this weird issue: the front glass is lifted on the right side of the device. Not just the top, but about 50% of the height, and i can see that dirt has gone in and stuck to the original adhesive.
I will buy some 3M adhesive and a frame, because i want to change the frame, and will try to get an original back cover too.

The water got in it, and there was some water left. You did not tear it down to dry the insides too, that's the problem. Unfortunately, if you say that went green then black it means that it most likely died. Because of water related damage.

yeap I took it to 5 different repair shops and all agreed to that, the problem is no one have a screen replacement for it, I tried to find it online but 99% of sites dont ship to my country (I will try contacting some friends that live in usa)
I have root in it, just before screen died It was connected it to tv and I was playing some old school ps1 games x), the problem is that after reboot, no hdmi no pc connection work unless you put password( because I used the fingerprint method ), i tried connecting a usb keyboard via otg but nope didnt work, I have usb debugging off also
Do you have a solution how to mirror screen to pc without usb debugging? or how to enable usb debugging via flashing? I remember my galaxy fame"s screen broke so I open the recovery menu clocksworkmod and boom usb debug is on on recovery menu(I installed an apk that enabled me to mirror the screen so I recovered my files), do you know a recovery that works in this model and do the same? and can you plz confirm that if you connect keyboard via otg , you cant input the password?
&thank you in advance )
