Some say it isn't possible, because of the radio version.
Thats not it at all. HBOOT was updated, and as such, keeps the RUU from working.
However:
Anything is possible with Android.
http://androidforums.com/all-things...16-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html
This method will allow you to remove the OTA by using RUU leaks we already have. I did it myself last night after messing up my phone trying to flash an old radio through clockwork
Read: Its not a radio issue that would keep you from updating, its an HBOOT version issue.
720p OTA Leak:
CID:VZW__001
ROM:1.36.605.0
You need to use the older OS version if you want to revert to an older RUU, I believe. Not sure the CID matters either. The img file I provided that worked, I used HTC_002.

Sweet, didnt know if it did or not.
I am taking a bit of leap of faith here, but I think it all gets overwritten by the RUU anyway.
Any one else confirm this working?
I can't download the flash image from the link.

Yes this works 100%... I used the zip method mentioned over at androidforums.
Thanks adrynalyne for putting everything together and making the process way easy!!!
When I've reverted to stock I have a PB31IMG that I use. Sorry for a dumb question but... is this what you mean by using an RUU?
Because the link above makes it seem as if it's on the pc not the sdcard. Maybe I'm missing somthing.

Radio is also known as Baseband under the software info.

Found out that when chrome auto-translates, or when you use google translate to translate the page, the links disappear.

How to flash PG32IMG files?
Sorry guys, a little new with flashing on the Incredible S. How do you apply these files? Rename it to update.zip, copy to SD card and boot in Recovery?
Name: PG32IMG.zip
Place: root of SD-card
Start bootloader, follow the instructions on screen.
Thanks!
Since I am already on it when I got the phone, I suppose this is worth to keep as a backup?
Hey timbo,
Thanks for the quick response. I followed your instructions. Booted into bootloader, it detected the file, loaded and checked. Then it fall back to the main menu. So I thought it is safe to reboot. But when I got back to my phone, its still on the old software. Did I miss anything?
Perhaps. Didn't tried it, maybe your current version number is higher than this one. Just follow my downgrade guide, but use this file instead off the one in the guide.
But I am on an European firmware 1.36.405.1. Was thinking of flashing this to get the Asian languages.
Update:
Wait a minute. Do I need goldcard to be able to flash? My phone isn't branded.

Working only if u have Goldcard!
I have tried creating using GoldCard Helper. Making sure the reverse ID was correct twice. Followed all the procedures to the dot. Copied the PG32IMG file into the card. Booted, loaded, checked. Nothing happened.
Help?

Actually no, the device is not branded. So I initially thought GoldCard is not required. But I do it anyway just make sure I don't miss out anything.
The device is on European ROM (indicated by the European languages) version 1.36.405.1. Radio seems to be up to date. So I don't know what I am missing up here.
Anybody can help? I just want to change the region to Asia WWE so that I can have the local languages. Or it is preferred that I go for RUU files?

HI davidmak,
after u make the goldcard, just run the .exe file and it will flash. do not go to bootloader.
Hi Guys,
I really need some help to get my phone back to stock recovery..how do I do that..i think I messed up big time..i basically have no clue about the terminology involved so is there anyway that I could explain to someone over the phone without hogging a whole thread as to what I did wrong? I have a SPRINT htc one m8 and am pretty sure after unlocking and rooting it with s off safely i messed up because i saw that new OTA update and wanted it and tried locking my bootloader back and s on again and screwed up from then on..long story
my number is 7187493223..i would happily make a donation via paypal etc to any member willing to just help me out,
Thanks
Jason
If you're on a non-HK version M8 your best bet would be to run the 1.54.651.10 RUU. It can be found in the first post of the thread below, along with directions on how to install it. This will unroot your phone and install the stock recovery.

I did flash that HK audio thing onto my phone but its not the HK version, but also what youre recommending is basically if i understand correctly is to basically wipe it clean and install that stock recovery which would take it back to the pre mess it was in,right? i'm sorry if i'm not making any more sense.

Correct. The RUU (ROM Update Utility) will install the stock ROM and the stock recovery. It will also unroot your phone. I recommend downloading & installing HTC Sync to your computer before running the RUU, unless you've already done this. This will install drivers to your computer that may be needed for you to connect your phone and computer together.

Actually, I forgot that you don't have to connect your phone and computer to run the RUU. The process is actually quite simple using the fastboot method. Just make sure you have a good charge on your phone before installing the RUU.

Yes, it's your external SD card. Make sure you don't put the file in a folder, otherwise the bootloader won't find it. If all else fails you can connect your phone and computer and double-click the RUU file on your computer to run it. The RUU will need to be on your computer in order to run it.

when i do it on the phone with hboot/fastboot it says no image or wrong image..could the file be corrupted? its not in any folder,i set it outside the folder as a stand alone but for some reason the phone doesn't do anything with it,like i said,it says wrong image or no image etc..no idea what all that is..
Tell me what to do when i connect the phone and computer..while extracting also it doesn't go all the way, something about archive could be corrupted or damaged etc..

Re-lock your bootloader. Put the RUU on your computer. Connect your phone and computer via USB cable. Reboot to the bootloader. You should see Fastboot USB highlighted in red once the connection is complete. Double-click the RUU file and follow the prompts on your computer.

So my phone keeps screaming at me to install a update, stock Rom only rooted, downloaded it to find out I cant install it with out the stock recovery and it would probably unroot my phone....
So I'm kinda confused as to what I need to download to update.
This all steams from how my old lady is picking up 4G at our house on her s4 and I'm stuck on 3g and I think it's because I haven't updated in a long time.

I'm with you... I tried doing my own research, found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856) and asked if flashing the "Modified Firmware w/ Radio" file would be the correct one to give me all of the needed OTA updates. I was told yes (though as you mention, the size difference doesn't make sense), so I flashed it in Fastboot.
...and I still have the system update notification on my phone which I can't get rid of. If you figure it out, please post here. Thanks.
I hope to have the process all figured out once 5.0 is released so that I can upgrade without wiping, as folks who are not rooted and take the OTA will be able to do.

Have a look at this regarding Android L/5.0
Hello everyone,
I have a XT1079 and I made the mistake of flashing 1069´s ROM. Now I can´t install a custom rom and adb does not recognize my device (it is listed as 1069 with a question mark on the icon in device manager).
Any ideas for help me will be appreciated, thanks a lot.
If your phone is able to go into recovery , you just flash the stock firmware again or flash flashable zip of the stock ROM ( or may be some custom ROM (i'm not sure though)). This will kind of reset your phone and it will work again. But as you said, You have downgraded your phone, you need to check out which one to flash ...i mean whether to flash kitkat or lollipop version.

you have a xt1079 right? stop flashing WRONG files until you get correct xt1079 firmware - please tell us what you originally had on phone and we will try to find it for you.
I cant seem to find any brazil xt1079 firmwares - yet - you have no signal due to incorrect radio/modem files - only can find xt1079 retcn files this modem / radio combo will be wrong - yours will become available but may take months to appear.....
THIS is why we backup our stock roms with TRWP to include the PDS area
