I recently found out I could update my captivate with Kies Mini. I updated and everything went smoothly. Kies told me update was successful and I unplugged my captivate. It was booting up fine until it reached the Galaxy S logo. It kept going through the logo animation for about 2 minutes before it shut off. I took the battery out and tried again. Same result. my soft buttons are lighted up. When I touch them It responds with a blink, but no haptic feedback. What is going on??How can I fix this? I tried using Odin to flash it back to stock but it won't recognize it. Mt phone was stock 2.1 with the Voodoo Lag Fix installed and everything ran fine and then after the JH7 update the phone messed up. I read that Launcher Pro causes problems with this update and you have to select the Touch Wiz UI when doing it which I forgot to do.
Please help, thank you.
Make sure your phone is powered down (remove then replace the battery if you have to), run odin, while holding both volume up and down buttons plug in the usb cable to enter download mode, flash with odin.

Ya I did that. I get a failed message in red. I attached a picture showing what it shows me.
hve you tried the one click odin tht takes you all the wy back, or is that what you show in the screen shot? You may want to try a different computer or try a master clear.

I tried master clear, it says failed and then completed but it still won't boot up, the Galaxy S screen stays up while the S is flashing and then it goes black. If I press the power button the soft buttons light up but I can't see anything on the screen.
Hmm. And you are putting the phone in download mode (with the big yellow triangle and a shoveling bot pic) as opposed to recovery mode?

Yes, download mode with the android shoveling that rock stuff
Weird. The only suggestions I can think of then are, try running odin as admin, try using heimdall to flash.
Edit: if all that fails try a different computer and/or different USB cable.

DUDE YOU FREAKING ROCK!!!! THANK YOU!!! (I ran as administrator and it worked this time)
Nice. Glad you got it working.
Word to the wise folks... disable any lagfixes before attempting to update. I had the same issue and had to Odin 1-Click to get it back to stock.

I believe that screen is a bad joke from samsung GB bootloaders. It should work as a download mode. Open Odin (one with out bootloaders) and get the phone in to that screen and plug it in see if Odin recognize it. Reminder remember to run Odin as admin.

not a bad joke that screen is the "incomplete flash screen" look at the icon its literally saying "connection lost, hook me up to a computer and finish this flash that messed up"
op pull the battery, open odin, plug in your phone, hold both volume buttons, while still holding insert the battery, if you get a yellow box in odin flasg from there.
if you still get no detection then search "jig" and that will definatly boot you into download mode...(regardless of what screen is actually on the phone)

Still a bad joke. First time i got one it was a evil because I had never seen it before. xD but it was just a scare.
Do what studacris said but remove your battery and let it sit for like 5 minutes and make sure the usb is plugged into a port in the back of the computer then do it.

The screen your thinking of says something about firmware failed, use recovery. This is the older screen. Still have to find a way into dl mode.
Another ray of hope. I have seen that screen about 5-10 times. Its not bricked. Do what above posts say

Its cheaper to send it to MobileTechvideos.com and unless you have very good soldering skills you will end up damaging the phone. Like it was said Jtag ins't necessary. Jig should work.
If JIG doesn't work (weird), then try the Heimdall One Click Unbrick
I have a Captivate which will go into download mode, but while in Odin will get stuck at "Do not turn off target" which is right after it says setting the PIT file. I have tried it with multiple Odins and on different PCs. This originally happened while I was using Odin to flash a stock firmware to change to a different ROM, It froze up at one point (I believe it was flashing SBL at the time). I don't know what to do, Please help!!!
1. Make sure you pull your SIM card out. I know people say it doesn't matter but all I know is my phone hangs if I forget to take it out.
2. Make sure you start Odin as an administrator (right click on the icon and click "Run as Administrator"). This has also caused issues for me in the past.

I always take the SIM card out when using Odin, and I always run it as administrator. I think it is getting stuck when partitioning the flash memory or something like that...

My problem isn't with connection, My problem is Odin one click stock just sits there when it says "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!" Which is right after "Set PIT file..". I have used the exact same one-click many times in the past without any problems.

I am in the same situation, the worst part is that it is my friend's phone. :/
I tried flashing new bootloaders through Odin... And it froze up half way through. Now I can't even get into download mode. :/ I think it's probably time to get a new phone...
I just had this problem and solved it by trying different usb ports on my machine.

Hey all,
I have recently been given a phone by a friend, a SGS i9000. He bought it as is, and being n00b he couldnt describe anything to me about how or why it was like this. As I have a i9000 myself I took a bit of a look at it, I have no idea what firmware, rom, kernel etc is on it. After researching around it seems to be locked in a bootloop, I can not access any recovery menu, if I hold the power + home button I get the screen below (found this button combo somewhere in the forums, attaining to the Samsung anycall, korean?), but when plugged into my computer it comes up saying "windows could not recognize device blah blah". Any hope??? Last resort will be to get a jig, but ive never had to use them before and not sure if it will solve my issue. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Identify what Phone it could be by checking its top corner for a Tucked in TV Antenna ...if you can pull out an Antenna its an M110S, if not it is an i9000 flashed with a wrong ROM. IF its M110S , just use PIT STOP link below to resolve using How to flash guide
The Anycall screen you are getting means it is still in download mode and can be detected by Odin, if not do a battery pull ( follow My Android Solutions, link below)

Thanks for your reply.
I have looked to see if there is an antenna, nothing there. Ive tried rebooting the PC, and done a battery pull. Whilst in bootloop ive plugged in the phone, nothing comes up. Whilst in download mode, ive plugged in the phone, device detected but unrecognized. I removed everything......then......
1) Uninstalled all drivers and KIES from my PC > Reboot
2) Went to Android solutions, started with step one, no help.
3) Went onto step 2 (Problem:- Cannot connect to PC or Unknown Device, getting Code 43 or any other code or NO response when using USB cable),I checked to see if any pins were bent, and cleaned the contacts using some mini brushes I had. I am using a Samsung USB, same one i use for my i9000, which works 100%. Installed and tried every driver seperately, whilst trying to see if odin would detect anything.
NOTHING :crying:
Tried different ports etc. The only response I get is when ive put the phone into download mode (Home+Power), then all I get when connected to PC is "USB Device not Recognized". Im grateful that I get that, but cant do much else haha.
Can you suggest anything else?? can I even use the jig as a last resort???
Did you remember that you need to reinstall drivers?

Hey thanks for your reply, if youre referring to the PC, then yes I removed all the drivers that did not work, and lastly reinstalled Samsung KIES. Still no change to the device being recognized by windows.

Is there a way i can do it through heimdall?? seems to get more done when trying to flash except the error i get above?? perhaps how to do a bootloader flash using heimdall not odin??
Thanks

I think the solution to your problem has been found, and your phone is actually an M110S Anycall galaxy S..read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888319...so you need to use the M110S repair kit, download from Pit Stop, link below and flash as per guide or like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28174768&postcount=4774
First of all I would like to thank you xsenman, your posts and guides on these forums have been a huge help. Going along with what you said in your last post, I have started downloading the repair kit, then hopefully do an official update for here (Australia).
I just want to add, you may want to add the the following as a solution to a lot of problems (it helped me verify).
I had a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30797809&postcount=1
And about half way through the thread is IMEI check
I entered the IMEI from my phone (an official samsung gti9000), and it came back with a result saying exactly that.
I then entered the IMEI from my friends phone (bought from ebay >:/ go figure), and it came back saying it was M110S but so has it that the internal sticker on my friends phone says model: GT-i9000
If anyone else gets into a confusion like I have, which it is hard to tell if its fake or not. Posting/sticky the imei check will save a lot of time, heart ache and possibly from creating a $200 paper weight.
Once again thank you so much, hopefully this repair kit will work and the phone will be up and running.
:good:
