Not sure how to flash from other rom.

Easy Peasy Installation for Insanity cm31 and higher,
Case 1:
Currently on any Samsung 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 ROMs (stock or custom, you already have Gingerbread Bootloader (GBL))
• Enter CWM recovery (If you are on stock Samsung, install speedmod or another kernel which gives you this).
• Wipe data/factory reset
• Go to mounts and storage, format system , go back.
• Go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache.
• Go to Install zip file, select zip file, select Insanity cmxx.zip and Install insanity.
• Reboot to system.
• Flash another kernel using nitrality if you need, gapss.
Case 2:
Currently on 2.1 or 2.2 samsung roms (stock or custom)
• If you don’t have CWM recovery, install a kernel for 2.1 or 2.2 which gives you that.
• Download Odin from here if you don't have odin already and GingerBread Bootloaders (GBL).
• Load GBL in PDA, click on bootloader update and reset time. Nothing else.
• Once odin says pass with a green bar, pull battery.
• Enter CWM recovery, wipe data/factory reset.
Case 3:
Currently on Cm7/Insanity(30 and older)/MIUI with Froyo bootloaders
• Download EZOdin and GingerBread Bootloaders (GBL).
• Load GBL in PDA, click on bootloader update and reset time. Nothing else.
• Once odin says pass with a green bar, pull battery.
• Enter CWM recovery, wipe cache.
• Go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache.
• Go to Install zip file, select zip file, select Insanity cmxx.zip and Install insanity.
• Reboot to system.
• Flash another kernel using nitrality if you need, gapss.
Case 4:
Currently on Cm7/Insanity 31 and older/MIUI with GBL
• Enter CWM recovery
• Wipe Cache (can skip this if you are on insanity, do it later if you have issues).
• Go to advanced, wipe dalvik cache ( can skip this if you are on insanity, do it later if you have issues).
• Go to Install zip file, select zip file, select Insanity cmxx.zip and Install insanity.
• Reboot to system.
• Flash another kernel using nitrality if you need, gapss.
If you still manage to screw up, time to give up on flashing as you can’t follow simple instructions .
If this was of help, click that thanks button.

Sorry to bump this. Found my old sgs and thought that it would be an exellent mp3-player for my 5 year old. It´s now running darkys 2.3.4 JVQ base. It´s been a long time since flashing and my memory isn´t that good. Can I just flash insanity from CWM directly or do I have to flash something else before?

You have to check in the Insanity thread if it can be flashed from another custom ROM or it has to be flashed from stock.

Hi,
It's probably many people who have been asking the same thing, sorry if it's already a thread out there.
But I'm totally new to this. I now want to root my phone and use a custom ROM and maybe a other kernal too, whatever kernal is for
Which ROM is the best out there? And I have no idea of how to root my phone and install a custom ROM, maybe some advices?
Thanks.
/Sorry if I don't have the best english
If you want to root your phone and you're on Froyo (Android 2.2) use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182
If you're on Gingerbread (Android 2.3) , you can use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
You can flash custom ROMs by installing them in ClockworkMod Recovery mode. This is a special menu which allows you to flash custom ROMs and kernels and make backups of your rom.
You can enter recovery mode with either:
1. ROM Manager, select reboot into recovery.
2. While phone is on, press power button and then select reboot and then recovery. (Basically the same as 1)
3. While phone is off, boot with holding the power button and volume down button until the second lg logo with the blueish background appears.
Flashing: (In recovery mode)
1. Make a backup (Titanium Backup or NANDroid)
2. Wipe Everything
Wipe data/factory reset (this won't erase your root)
Wipe cache
Go to advanced and wipe Dalvik cache.
Wipe Battery Stats
3. Go to install zip from sdcard. (you have to put the rom you wish to install on the sd card)
4. Again install zip from sdcard (install Google apps, can be found in the CyanogenMod wiki) (same way as installing rom)
5. (optional) install zip from sd card and flash kernel. (same way as installing rom)
6. Done, reboot phone.
The best rom is just a matter of taste actually. It just depends on what you want, some prefer CyanogenMod and others just want an improved stock rom. So all you gotta do is read and make up your own mind. Also when you flash a kernel you have to make sure that the kernel in question is compatible with your rom, because there are many kernels in the dev section and they all work either with stock-based ROMs (Horsepower Kernel) or custom ROMs (Ironkernel, Vadonkas KANG kernel).
My opinion is to use the combination:
Temaseks CM KANG:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421425
Vadonkas KANG kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427646
Hope this helped, if there are still some questions, just ask! Or PM me

Nvm, I misread it It was in the recovery mode.
I got a problem now, I have installed the custom RM and kernel, but the problem now is that I can't connect the phone to the computer via USB to put files in my phone. Do I need some new drivers or something?
Edit: When I try to use the camera it just wsays that I need to use my SD card. It might be something else that wrong, just with the SD card?
Edit2: it seems that I can only get acces to the SD card from the computer by the recovery mode?
try to shut down the device and boot instead of rebooting(if you did that) some sdcards have problems with a reboot and do not get recognized.

Are u talking about the internal sd or a external sd? For use the internal sd (the data partition of the device's memory) there is an option in the settings. I don't remember now I'm using a Miui based rom. For the usb connection u must have the driver of the device, u can take it in the lg web site

I actually meant the internal, cuz I don't have a external card. Where can I find that setting? It's so many settings so I get confuesed when I try to look for other settings All program that seems to need the internal SD card seems to say it, the camera, ROM manager and other apps.
And I have a sall problem with spotify, it won't start at all. Is this normal with this ROM?
i have a question, if lets say i flashed cyanogen mod 7.1 stable on my lg optimus 2x and i want to flash, for example temasek kang cyanogen mod, can i just download the .zip files and copy it over to the phone and flash. is there such thing as downgrading in android like in symbian, im also a newbie, also another question, the rom files or .zip in clockworkmod on internal storage, can they be deleted after flashing the files on the phone

1. Yep, just copy it to your phone, boot into recovery and install zip from sd card.
2. Downgrading is possible, make sure to wipe.
3. After flashing you can safely remove the zip file from your phone
thx for the quick reply, could you elaborate more on the part of downgrading, does that mean i cant just simply flash another rom
also on the first page you recommended CM7.2 Temasek KANG rom and Vadonkas KANG kernel, how do you install that, do i just flash the cm 7.2 temasek kang rom, or do i have to flash the kernel, and which one comes first
also what is the kernel for, as i noticed when i flashed cyanogen mod 7.1 stable, the kernel was automatically changed

Downgrading
You flash the rom you want over the one you have right now, just wipe everything. (you can always restore it later with a backup) For example when you have a CM KANG an you want to go back to a nightly just flash it over the KANG.
First you flash the KANG rom and then you flash the kernel. If you do it the other way around you erase the kernel flash because as you know every rom comes with a standard kernel. (More information, look at my first post in this thread)
The main goal of flashing a custom kernel is increasing the performance and have the ability to overclock and to undervolt. The standard kernel which comes with CM stable doesn't allow you to overclock your CPU to for example 1.5Ghz. Standard kernel only clocks to 1Ghz.
Simple question: If I root my phone when it's on "stock' (i.e. as it comes out the box when it turns up soon), and then upgrade to the LG Official latest release via their website.. will I have to root the phone again?

1:
Google "SuperOneClick" - http://shortfuse.org/?page_id=2.
Set your phone to "development mode", or whatever it is in english, under your program settings and plug it into your PC with the program running.
It should be as simple as clicking "Root" with the newest version of the program.
2:
Download "Rom Manager" from the market and install "ClockWorkMod" through that program.
3 - preparation:
- Turn off your phone and hold down the "Volume Down" button + the "Power" button untill you see the LG logo shift into, what resembles a loading screen.
- In ClockWorkMod, you navigate up and down with the volume buttons and the power button selects an option.
- Go to "Backup and Restore" and back up your system. This is a so-called Nandroid backup.
- plug your P990 into your PC and copy that backup file. It's most likely on your external SD-Card.
_____________________________________________
- Find a suitable ROM, I use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421425
At the bottom of the fist post, you can find download links.
The Google Apps: http://www.mediafire.com/temasek#5xfvkc2nlfk5v
You need that file to install the marketplace. It'll be called something in the vein of "gapps-gb-20111214-237-signed".
The ROM itself: http://www.mediafire.com/temasek#3edh9d36u710w
The file will have a name in the vein of "cm7kang-O2x-P204-38"
_____________________________________________
4:
Now that you have your ROM/Google Apps (GAAPS) and a backup file, you're ready to get started.
Copy the ROM and GAAPS ZIP files to your SD-card. Then turn it off and enter ClockWorkMod by way of "Volume Down/Power" buttons.
5:
Back in ClockWorkMod, navigate to "install zip from sdcard" ---> "choose zip from sdcard/choose zip from internal sd card" and make sure you can find your files before proceeding.
6:
- Assuming everything is ok, choose "wipe data/factory reset" in the main menu of ClockWorkMod.
-Once done, choose "install zip from sdcard" and install your ROM.
-repeat the process for the Google Apps file.
Once done, choose "wipe cache partition" in the main menu along with "wipe dalvik cache" under the "advanced" option.
After that, choose to turn off the phone and turn it on to boot your new ROM for the first time.
Prepare to troubleshoot a bunch, you're probably used to a bunch of stuff that are'nt to be taken for granted
Feel free to ask me questions and criticism is welcome, considering this is just a short guide; and my rooting experiences started this saturday.

hi all, i'm on GB 2.3.6 N700XXLC1 pre rooted ROM and trying to install CWM with no success. Downloaded CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LC1-v5.3-CWM5.zip and execute already-rooted.bat (USB debug is flagged, zimage file inside zimage folder and all the drivers are installed), the procedure starts but remain stuck in PUSHING ZIMAGE...(waited 30 min but NOTHING!)
Q: is this right or i need to downgrade to a directly rootable rom?
Q2: someone could explain the simplest procedure (step by step) with ALL the softwares and files needed to update from LC1 to stunner? I'm not asking all the links but file names and steps.
This is the lis of all the files i have downloaded till now:
1. Odin 1.85
2. pre rooted LC1 rom (installed - root ok)
3. CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LC1-v5.3-CWM5.zip (do i need it?)
4. I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK.tar (do i need it?)
5. ICS_Stunner_1.4.19.zip
PS i don't have mobile odin so please explain how to do with odin for pc
Thank you in advance and sorry for the incorrect english
I'm not very experienced with this, but someone just helped me the other day to go to ICS stunner from GB. I see you already installed a pre rooter ROM, thats good. After that I installed the ICS repack using the mobile odin app. Well worth the money seeing I installed the repack + the stunner rom within a couple of minutes.

Since you are rooted already u don't require the 3rd step. Just check your root once!
Download mobile odin free from market or buy it if you can.....then flash the #4. file the LP1 repack through mobile odin. If u use pc odin it will give u yellow triangle and you will have to get rid of it using another app - triangle away.
Boot into LP1 repack and let the room settle.
Then reboot to recovery wipe data and cache and dalvik then flash stunner and clear cache dalvik and data and rebooot. Done
Useful links in my signature if you require.
thank you both!
1 bought mobile odin pro and flashed CF-root (only now i see it was not necessary)
2 flashed LP1 repack (mobile odin pro)
3 reboot in recovery and installed stunner from sd card
DONE!
what is dalvik?
now i'm on stunner..there are other updates i have to do? modems etc? I heard there is an update for the tablet mode..going to search for it
EDIT: i found this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24860868&postcount=3865 how install it? recovery>install from sd or via mobile odin pro?

You can flash LP6 modem, works great for me..
There is no "update" to tablet mode, just a zip to enable it if you would like to use tablet mode and it should be flashed through recovery..
That fix for phone crash in 160 dpi should be flashed from recovery, and for general knowledge most of .zip files are flashed through recovery, odin mostly uses .tar files
IIRC there is a post with PC drivers in the Stunner thread, search for it and try it
thank you matius!
i'm on GB 2.3.6. LC1 pre rooted again because the USB was not recognized with my first stunner flash...now USB works perfectly, i want to clean install stunner with clear steps so please i need someone who confirm i'm doing the right steps:
1 reboot in recovery and wipe (data - cache - dalvik cache)
2 reboot phone open mobile odin and install LP1 repack from ext SD card
3 do i have to reboot in recovery and wipe data/cache/dalvik cache after LP1 installation?
4 reboot in recovery and install ICS Stunner 1.4.19 from ext SD card
5 do i have to reboot in recovery and wipe data/cache/dalvik cache after Stunner 1.4.19 installation?
6 reboot in recovery and install ICS Stunner 1.4.25 repack from ext sd card
7 after that i want to install LP6 modem and 160 dpi fix (recovery or mobile odin?)
thank you in advance

Most of your questions seem answered however I noticed nobody mentioned what the dalvik is. First, to get to it:
Reboot into recovery->advanced->wipe dalvik ( and choose yes of course ), that should be done anytime you change roms and I do it every time I update a rom
Info on what the Dalvik Cache is:
Dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program dalvik. Dalvik is a java based virtual machine that is the bases for running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension). In order to make access times faster (because there's not JIT (just in time) compiler installed by default), the dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program. Sounds confusing. It's similar to the prefetch files in Windows.

search for 20o patched bin and fls files and flash them with smartflash and from there flash any ROM you like.
CM9 is not suitable as an everyday rom, try another one, personally I will recommend you CM7 or Zeus(thou I dont know if the have LTR support).
In face I rooted it by unlock root before then I flashed the cm9
I detected the errors then I re-flashed the stock rom with smart flash tool
but now I want to root again I can't
why???
also is cm7 stable and can I download it from cm website directly or where can I download it??
is cm7 supports rtl support(especially arabic)??
Is cm7 have thread in this forum??
Patched v20o comes with cwm recovery so from there you can flash any rom, yes you should.always get cm from official site or look for temasek kang in general forum.

Hi guys, just got a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 dirty cheap from Hong Kong, and using it now in the states. I am a huge fan of rooting/flashing and stuff, so I decided to give myself a little test and see how long I can keep this phone stock. I lasted two days...haha.
So, I set out to see how to root this thing. After reading thread after thread, I learned about the wipe brick bug on stock Samsung kernels.
Now here's my question:
I want to use method 1A (to be safe) using this guide here, and it led me to this thread. Now here's where I get confused. Which kernel am I supposed to download and flash?
My Stock ROM system info (remember, this is from Hong Kong)
Model Number:
GT-N7000
Android Version:
4.0.3
Baseband Version:
N7000XXLR1
Kernel Version:
3.0.15-N7000ZSLPF-CL558440

SMP PREEMPT Tue May 15 15:39:39 KST 2012
Build Number:
IML74K.ZSLPF
Any for of enlightenment is greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
The easiest is flash a safe custom kernel that will be safe to wipe, provides root access, and has Clockworkmod Recovery. Below is how I setup my phone to flash Paranoidandroid. I started with a stock N7000XXLRT rom. I did install and run Triangle Away to later to remove the yellow triangle counter warning on boot. Largely cosmetic. Please check wikis of this speedmod kernel supports ICS 4.0.3.
If all you want is root and a safe kernel then you end with step 3 and apply Triangle Away.
1. Begin with a stock ICS rom on your Note.
2. Use Odin on the PC,select PDA, and flash speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar with usb cable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072
3. After flashing speedmod kernel you will have root access, and a custom Clockworkmod Recovery in which to flash custom roms.
4. Get Paranoidandroid zip and Gapps zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713 . Copy the Paranoidandroid and Gapps zip files on your phone's internal sd card.
5. Backup efs folder just to be sure. Use kTool from Google Play or manually copy the EFS folder with Explorer+ also from Google Play. Copy the files to your pc.
6. Press power button, select reboot, reboot into recovery and go to backup and restore section and create a backup. Select go back and reboot.
6. Reboot into recovery (Clockworkmod Recovery) wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache (advanced).
7. From recovery, select install from zip from sd card. Select choose zip from internal sdcard. Select the Paranoid rom zip and flash. Do the same to flash Gapps zip. Go back and reboot.
*When flashing nightlies, no need to wipe cache, data, and dalvik. But install Gapps zip again in Recovery. You will need to set up your Google account again.

Thanks. So it doesn't matter that I am on Stock Samsung ICS ROM from Hong Kong?
And also, what version of Odin do I use, or does it not matter?
Yes. HK rom pretty much is the same kernel with local enhancements. The XXLR1 seems to be German or European. It should be ok. Again please verify if the speedmod kernel works with ICS 4.0.3. The site says ICS so I think it does.
I used Odin3-v1.85.zip. Make sure you have an excellent usb cable. Test the rig by copying large files between your pc and the Note internal sdcard.
