I was attempting to go through the steps to install CyanogenMod on my AT&T nexus one and now when I boot up my phone does not connect to my cell network or wifi. I keep getting the message about my process system not responding and eventually it reboots on its own. My bootloader is unlocked. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Everything was stock on the phone until I started this process.
Bad flash...
Best bet, because it's very easy, is to reinstall the rom after a complete wipe.
If that doesn't work then we'll need logs to diagnose... but best to start with a fresh install and let us know how you get on.
The good news is that it's almost 100% addressable...

Thanks a lot. That's exactly what I did after I found information on how to do that Friday night. Now I have unlocked, rooted and running CM-6. I love it. Just have trouble with data. Very slow to come on.
Howdy all,
My phone broke, so I'm back on the hero. I forget any and all stuff of how to's on this phone so bear with me. Basically, I'm a noob for the hero now.
So, recently, I followed the Cyanogenmod Full Update wiki guide, rooting it with the rageagainstthecage exploit. However, after my first time, my phone would eventually be so slow that it would seem to freeze. It's just so so so so slow. It's unusable. The lockscreen would come up, and i would touch the lock icon, which would vibrate. I would slide to unlock, but the screen doesn't react. at all. then it would vibrate, indicating an unlock, but the screen doesn't change at all. Occasionally, I'm able to accidentally enter an app, but I cannot read texts, answer calls, or reply to texts. Or do anything else.
Occasionally, I'll get a "app is unresponsive" message, but I can't force close/wait.
Oh, btw, when this happens, I can't get into my recovery (CWM 3.0.0.5). Also, I don't see the boot animation.
I have done an RUU stock reset, which fixed it once. The problem occurred again while on CM7, and I did another RUU reset, but the problem is now consistent throughout the stock sense. Omigawd what do i do?
Since I am now on stock that has usb debugging disabled, I can no longer access adb.
I am currently on absolute stock (fresh-out-of-the-box like), not rooted, and have S-OFF.
I am fairly well versed in fastboot and adb commands. When I try to access the recovery, I am sent to a black screen. When I plug in while in recovery and do "adb devices," I get my model number with the message "offline."
I AM OUT OF IDEAS! Someone. Please helpppp.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for helping.
Try a re-root with regaws rooter (the old version if you can get it) i swear by it. or Z4 root. once you have reestablished root, get Rom manager and flash the 2.4.0.7 recovery. then in rom manager go to downloads and get the cyanogen mod download of your choice( myself i prefer 7.0.3) and flash. you should be good to go from there.
as far as your adb it looks like your pc either isnt recocnizing your phone or you dont have the proper drivers installed.
Bout all i can tell ya ,one noob to another,,,
BTW, if you want to start completly from scratch, since your s-off,you can get a HERCIMG.img i think in the development sectin of this forum that is flashable from fastboot,,,try that ,,,Later man and good luck
Luckily you are S-Off. Can you put a HERCIMG.zip on the root of your sd card with a recovery (even CWM 2.5.0.7 will do) and then maybe try downloading another rom. Maybe you have a bad download. I am a big fan of Jaybob's TeamHeroc Rom which is a great CM7ish type of rom. Make sure that you format boot, cache, data, and system (I do it 3 times for each to make sure that it is really wiped) before you flash whatever rom you choose. You might have some leftover stuff that is causing some issues. Just wiping data and cache might not be enough. Here is a HERCIMG with a 4.0.1.4 recovery that you can load from H-Boot. I'm pretty sure that it's the Orange Recovery that I use.

hey guys just got back from vacation. Thanks for all your feedback. I switched phones to a temporary one now. I don't really feel like switching back to the hero cuz it costs money to activate phones. Also, I talked to an app developer about my problems. He told me that 1. the phone is way to old to be running gingerbread. Some nasty software probably carried over from my last flash onto the stock RUU flash. and that 2. whenever the problem occurs, I should let the battery drain before I do anything. Turns out, whenever the problem happens nowadays, I just let the battery drain and its all fixed. OKAY WTF. But all smiles now. Its my ipod-touch-like device now. I used regaws root.
THANKS GUYS SO MUCH.
I'll try to keep this one explained simple
- Was running have boot loader unlocked and am rooted, was trickdroid
- Decided to try what else was out there for ROMS, switched to Renovate rom, was a downgrade from trickdroid in my eyes
- Decided to switch to one more rom before making the jump back to trickdroid, accidentally wiped internal storage data along with everything else
- After wasting most of my day messing with this crap, I finally got everything back to somewhat operational again
- My internal memory and Cache at one point were unmountable and read 0MB, had to do a factory reset via boot loader then a full wipe using TWRP
- Finally have trickdroid installed and its semi operational, aside from the fact that when I load it, it instantly has no service, no internet, nothing. It sends me to the launcher portion and there are no apps on there either. Shortly after it starts it will restart the device.
-After doing several restarts into recovery I have confirmed that the system partition consistently unchecks itself and I have already attempted fixing permissions several times and doing a system wipe and full ROM install again.. same issue to no avail.
- Last night I actually managed to pull up icons and programs, somehow, but again there was no system being loaded up
A little help please? I am in a state of a soft brick at this point, which is not bad considering I had a SUPER HARD brick earlier.
Help me, please. I just want to get this phone back to a functioning state!

A hard brick is unrecoverable. It means your phone is literally as responsive as a brick. I would say your phone is pretty functional if the actual OS loads.
Anyway, have you tried RUU? That usually brings everything back to normal. Be sure to use the correct one, and note that you will lose EVERYTHING. Even root.
EDIT: Try this.

So I did try using this link and downloaded the full zip file and unzipped as per instructions of QBKing77 off of youtube, then clicked setup.exe within the folder which was unzipped, but after it ran through its setup process, nothing else popped up? I tried doing it as well through hasoons all in one toolkit but while that worked, it didn't work as expected and it just stayed at the black htc screen. I'm lost at the moment.
Trickdroid works on the Sprint variant?

We should add to the Q/A sticky the names of ROMs NOT to flash like Android revolution, trickdroid, etc.
P.S. He tried RUU, he's having trouble.

It wouldn't be as bad if the Int'l forum was marked so. If I were new, I would assume all HTC Ones are the same too.

Very true there are HTC One forums for:
International
Sprint
AT&T
T-Mobile
So it could be confusing to some
Hello from my finally unbricked one! Turns out I was having issues with the computer itself launching installshield so it wouldn't keep the factory RUU running. I did it from a different computer and it did it in stride.. I'm so happy to have this thing back. So on a sidenote I had to rwlock bootloader and then I had to reload the factory RUU.
I went to install the most recent up date. When it got done installing it started to reboot. It then got stuck on the HTC start up screen. I do not know a whole bunch on phones but did a little research and tried to recover and reboot the phone and neither worked. I would really like to find a fix that does not involve erasing all my data. I have all the pictures of my baby from the past year, from the time that he was born until now, and I would really hate to lose those. Thank you!

Maybe some more information... what ROM, was this a stock OTA? If you have custom recovery and are attempting to flash a custom ROM, then try to reflash...if you have lost your data already or to avoid data loss;try side-loading a ROM...can't tell you much from what I've read, but if you can hold power+ volume down simultaneously for about 15 secs you should end up in recovery, if you installed a custom recovery; e.g.Philz, TWRP, CWM...then you'll pop up there....
It is safe to say that if you don't have any of these custom recoveries then you'll need to use the RUU found in the Dev section....

I am sorry, I am completely stupid when it comes to phone. I know that I have not done any customizations. It is not rooted and would not have a custom ROM, not quite sure what that is. Everything should be stock. So what would I have to do to do the option that you have stated? I apologize for my lack of knowledge.
does your pc recognize the the phone when you plug it in? you could try extracting the data like stated before, but you're not rooted so that'd be a problem. an ruu would be your best bet, even though you'll lose your data. I HIGHLY suggest creating a dropbox and backing up your photos, it has done wonders for me.

It recognizes it to an extent. My computer will ding recognizing that it is plugged in but since it does not go past the start up screen you can't get into the phone storage. I do have a dropbox but with the thousands of pictures on my phone it unfortunately only stored a month or so of pictures. I am not so much worried about the phone, as I have insurance on it and can get it replaced. Just really want the pictures. When looking online I had read something about unlocking the boot menu and downloading a ROM I believe. Do you know anything about that and if it would work for me? Or is that the same thing as the RUU?

Mine gets stuck on boot screen occasionally. Sounds weird but hold the phone drectly up to a light bulb and try to reboot the phone. This works for my particular problem. Not sure why but it does.

Hold power and vol-down together until it reboots into bootloader. Connect to USB and select 'fastboot' on the bootloader menu. That should get you to fastboot. From there, you can HTCDEV unlock the thing (in all likelihood).
Hi community.
(I've searched without success!)
I've 'broken' my Xperia T. It was rooted and I used Titanium BackUp to 'merge updates to ROM'. Unfortunately the phoned locked up mid process and upon rebooting my phone is failing to boot. I *think its on Android 4.2.. I'd guess I've corrupted the ROM..
I'm afraid I'm unsure if my bootloader is unlocked or not, i rooted over a year ago and cannot remember what i did.
Upon boot I see the 'sony' name for a couple of seconds, it loops doing this and then sometimes I see the symbol that is its 'fix boot thing' that tries to fix the problem. But it never does. So it is stuck in a constant loop, never getting past the earliest part of the boot sequence.
I can't get into Recovery Mode.
What method can anyone suggest I try to recover this? To me as a noob there seem to be numerous recovery methods none of which i understand at this point. What I'd really love to hear is a suggested recovery method and then i can read up and try. As i stand I'm all a bit daunted of where to start.
Thanks for any help on a suggested recovery method. If my phone is beyond repair, that is fine.
It seems your kernel is broken.
It doesn't exist android 4.2 for our device... so, what is your version? 4.1.2? 4.3? And which is your actual firmware?
This is important because if you flash the proper kernel, you can access to your system again.
If you have no idea, then flash a new clean stock firmware.
Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648320
For rooting and recovery, it will depend on which android version you choose.
For last android version 4.3, here is a quick tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2798411

Thanks mate that is very helpful.
I'm afraid i really don't know my firmware, build number or anything. All i know is is was an older version of Android 4.xxx If i had to guess i'd say 4.1.2.
If i can flash it to a stock firmware that is great! I'll run through this process see if i can get the 'flashtool' to communicate to my device.

You're welcome... and don't mess again with Titanium backup and tools like that... instead, once you've rooted, learn to use backup/restore of recovery... it's way better
I actually doubt its kernel related. More likely is a certain important system app has been wrongly replaced and is causing the problem.
As far as I know, Titanium Backup doesnt do anything to the kernel.

Yes, maybe you're right...
but the behaviour he reports about powering on and loops, is usually related to something wrong with the kernel.
In addition to this, he can't access to recovery anymore... and recovery is loaded before system. Why?
Or he means "recovery mode" as a lighter system mode (like windows for PC)... yes maybe he means this one... and not a recovery like CMW, etc...
He talks about "merging updates to ROM"... I actually don't know what he means exactly, I don't know how that titanium backup feature works, but if you update system files without updating the kernel, sometimes you can get bootloops because they don't match anymore.
At this point it's better he flash kernel+system together, that's why I suggested Flashtool ...and wiping all data too, is even better
istux once again thank you so much. It worked... on about the 30th time!
I would never have persevered without being given direct advice that this should fix my issue, so i'm very thankful.
I did have several issues getting it to work. For some unknown reason my Win 8.1 desktop refused to install the drivers required. It took me several attempts to realise the drivers were needed. I then switched to my Win 7 laptop and the drivers installed without issue.
But the main issue i was having was the power loop, I couldn't effectively switch off the phone. I had to let it the battery die entirely and then try, after about 20 attempts over 12 hours and several battery drains it suddenly sprang into life and started flashing. Its now as a factory reset.

Why didn't you tell you weren't able to power off before?
If you get infinite bootloops, you have to push power+vol.up until it turns off.
You don't need to discharge the battery completely, because if kernel is actually corrupted you couldn't be able to recharge the phone anymore, because recharging process is managed by the kernel.
The risk to turn a bad situation into a nightmare is very high in these cases!! Be careful next time!!
