I am running ASOP on my M8 and for some reason the camera has stopped focusing ... Have tried three different camera apps including the default HTC camera and it is the same problem on all of them ... not only doesn't the camera not auto focus, but it doesn't seem to have any fixed point at which it is in focus without autofocus. In other words, if I look at a screen showing the outdoors, trees and such, something between one foot and infinity should be in focus just like it would be in a fixed focus camera with no focus adjustment. But there isn't any, it's all out of focus.
My guess is that some, possibly firmware, instruction that's supposed to tell the camera lens to unlock when a camera app is invoked is not being delivered. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions that would help me troubleshoot and fix this problem without having to do a factory reset.
In the event this is a mechanical issue does anyone know if it's covered by HTC's warranty ... the phone is 10 or 11 months old, runs on Sprint, was purchased at Best Buy and I passed on the $10 buck a month extended warranty because they'd tacked on $150 co-payment on the policy for any repair or replacement ...
Thank you very, very much
(Some say purple, and blue in my screenshot)
Anyone has this issue?
I just heard about this from the links below, and tested with mine.. Unfortunately Mine has purple spots too.
It's been a month since I bought it. Will I get a refurbished one if I ask for a exchange??
Anyone dealt with Verizon regarding this problem?? Any Suggestions?

I just went through the same exact issue with my wife's S4. Different phone I know, but the purple, pixelated artifacts on the screen indicate a camera sensor hardware failure. The phone was still under warranty so I worked through Samsung Help and Verizon Tech Support to troubleshoot. A few things they had me do before sending a replacement phone were:
1. Toggle between front and rear cameras to see if it's present in both.
2. Switch between camera modes and resolutions (if applicable) to see if it disappears in any. Go ahead and zoom in if you could and see if it goes out of view.
3. Clear camera cache and data using the app manager.
4. Start the device in safe mode and check to see if it's an installed app that's affecting it - safe mode disables all non-system apps.
5. Factory reset the device.
After all of that, the conclusion was exactly as I expected: cam sensor hardware failure and warranty replacement. I can't speak to whether you'd get a refurb or new device as a replacement. Probably have a great chance to get a new device if you exchanged it in the store.
Rear camera-hardware detected, yet black image. Camera "bus" malfunctioning?
Hi
Half a year ago my girlfriend accidentally gave my Z3 Compact a rollercoaster ride in our washing machine (full tour). The screen broke, but it could turn on and everything looked fine (gave no errors) when connecting to HDMI.
Yesterday I received a replacement LCD, which gave it a new life. It seems that everything works except for the rear camera. When opening any camera-app, the HUD is visible, but image is black, and no error. If i switch to front camera, which works, and back to the rear camera, it shows a freezed image of the last image from the front camera.
I checked some debug-apps to see if it detects the camera-module, and it does. If it's connected, alle the specs of the camera is listed, and if disconnected, the module is not listed.
I then got a broken Z3 Compact from a friend, and I tested both rear camera modules in both phones. The modules are working in his phone, both doing the same black screen in mine.
I tried hard reset, PC Companion-repair, updates, clearing camera cache etc., but with no luck.
Do you have any suggestion to how I can fix this?
Do you know where on the motherboard I could look for dirt in relation to some "rear camera bus/chip"?
Thank you for any help!
Edit: And isn't it amazing that this phone works to this extend after 2½ hours in 60 degrees celcius (140 fahrenheit) warm water with soap and 1400rpm? Wow! (Btw., all panels were open, and screen totally broken, so water must have been everywhere in the phone.)
I have a similar issue on my partners z3c after the screen cracked, I have replaced the screen and it works great however the camera shows a black screen. I know the camera module is working as I have tried it in another phone. Having searched for this issue I seen it has effected quite a few others not only those who have opened their phone.
what software you used to debug so I can verify that the phone can also see the camera module
This is happening to me too a year down the line of ownership.
Replaced with new camera from eBay still black screen. Between your experience and mine of both testing the camera we've prices it's not the lens, so what could it be.
Need to fix don't know what to do
The camera module itself may work but the chip which handles the rear camera may be damaged even if the phone works pretty good.
So if the chip or anything else related to the camera is dead, you can even try thousands of camera modules from different phones on YOUR phone, none of them will work.
That's my opinion - guy's who work in electronical industry for 3,5 years now and have seen hunderds of differend kinds of damages on different stuff.
I see what you are saying however it would be nice to have an idea of where any chip/bus is that may be damaged to see if it xan be fixed or is replaceable.

Yes, you are 100% right but there's another thing.
In the present times, in a rush of miniaturization, there's a little chance of such reapair to be profitable. The chip/bus may be damaged but in fact not only one thing may be dead... I'm talking about tiny little resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors (if there are any on the motherboard...) which are many. I'm not saying it won't be possible to repair the phone but without a proper diagnosis what is damaged... I'd be like looking for a needle in a haysack and everyone can tell you that only replacing the whole motherboard will be worth the time.
But still... this is an interesting case of malfunction... I hope you'll find a solution for this or at least someone else will do it for you for a reasonable price.

If you can confirm this issue is not exclusive to Sony's stock camera, then it sounds like your camera is going bad. Get the camera module replaced by buying the part from eBay.

Umm...by cleaning it?
Is it inside the lens? If so, you have to tear-down your phone to get to the camera, then clean the glass.
Hey
So I had problems with my camera not focusing when trying to take pictures from very close distances (small figures within 10-15 cms), it was all blurry - I tried different options and decided that software changes didn't help the problem so I ordered a new camera module and changed the part. I read that dropping the phone might lead to the lenses getting somehow disoriented and there's only solution to change the module..
Now after replacing the old module the camera app can use the front camera but when I swap to the primary back camera an error occurs and it claims it can't connect to the camera and the camera closes. Is this new module that should be for A2/X6 somehow still somehow incompatible or do you guys have any idea what might the problem?
I've tried to clear the data from the camera, I've reset the factory settings - no help.

Well IMHO, this kind of thing is better leave it to the authorized people @ expert.. I mean you sent it to service center or phone shop and let they do the replacement.. Me itself have experience of dropping my A2 from second floor and screen is badly shattered.. Although I know how to replace it but I won't do that.. I ordered the replacement parts and then sent it to the shop and let them do it.. I just pay for labor cost..
