Is there a most stable M-build for CM11? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried one of the first CM11 snapshot builds on my HD but went back to 10.2.1 because Trebuchet seemed to be missing some features. Wondering if any of the most recent builds are fully functional for everyday use. I do mainly reading (using the Kindle app and FB Reader) and web browsing with Chrome.

Hands down M12 all the way. YMMV.

I am running M12 and pretty happy with it.
What features are you looking for in Trebuchet that are missing? You might want to consider some other Launchers, such as Nova.

Trebuchet is fine on 10.2.1. When I installed an early CM11 snapshot, some configuration options were missing that I used on 10.2.1 and that was a deal breaker for me. Maybe they've been put back in on the latest snapshots.

Could be. But since you didn't actually answer the question about what features you're wondering about.... Since you're the only one who knows what you're looking for, you'll just need to flash it and find out.
Nobody else can tell you because nobody else knows what you want. Good luck. And as somebody else pointed out, there are some great alternative launchers that probably have all the features you're looking for and then some.

I don't recall specifically what was missing but it was related to the overall home screen configuration options. I've tried other launchers and nothing works any better for me than Trebuchet.
You're right though, I'll just have to flash M12 and see how it looks.

Just so you know they changed the location for the options in Trebuchet over past versions. You need to hold down on home screen and when settings UI comes up, then swipe up. Can't have enough hidden stuff....

Phiremod 6.3 is out!

For those who may not be aware yet, Phiremod 6.3 was released yesterday:
https://phiremod.wordpress.com/nook-color/
It's based on CM 7.03 stable. I'be been running it since last night, and so far so good.

Too early to tell. Honestly, though, I was fine with battery life under 6.2.
I've had good luck with it so far and it seems pretty snappy as it's running. I do seem to be having an issue of the Nook randomly restarting and I can't tell what's causing it. Anyone else seeing this?
bleh......
Does it support iptables?
I cannot add gmail account after flashing. It keeps saying my username/password is wrong even though I am sure it's not.
Anyone ran into this problem?

It does not support anything that CM 7.0.3 already support. Phiremod is NOTHING but a CM7 theme; nothing at all special. People will be much better off using the newer nightlies (which are using the newer .32 kernel).
The latest nightlies support iptables? I thought only Dalingren's OC kernel had iptables support (that I could find). Phiremod 6.3 says it has an OC kernel, but doesn't say which one. Does the nightly have an OC kernel, or one with iptables support?

Are you using 2 step authentication for your google account? If so you might have to create a app specific password in your google account settings.
I don't get phiremod.
He does say he just adds stuff he likes, but the love/desire/understanding for it is beyond me.
Slow market
I just downloaded phiremod 6.3 and it is working very well. This my my nooks first rooted rom.
The only problem ive encountered so far, and its not really a problem, but the market is downloading apps very slowly. It took 30 mins to DL angry birds. My wifi is clocking at 10 DL speed and 3 upload speed on my HD2 so its not a slow connection.
any ideas?

Phiremod is sort of the autonooter of CM7s. It's a finished, easily flashable distribution that includes some nice tweaks and extras all in one package and you can count on pretty much everything working. It's for guys who don't want to bother with going from nightly to nightly.
At least that's how I look at it.

Gimme a break.
Look, if you area already to the point that you are comfortable flashing a rom to your nook, the hardest part is behind you. I would say if you have some issue, but have problems downloading some apps from the market, and applying a theme (lets face it, there aren't any actual tweaks in Phiremod - it is all just UI fluff and pre-installed apps), you should see some help.

What about the menu animations (When they "fly" up at you)? Are those unique to phiremod or have I missed those elsewhere in other roms?

All it is is a theme and some settings on LauncherPro. Nothing specific to a ROM.

I just installed phiremod 6.3 on my sdcard a few days ago and I love it..mostly for the pre-installed OC up to 1.3GHz. I had some issues with android.process.media FC's, but I just cleared the data from Media Storage under app management, and it's been fine since. What is the PBD syndrome?

"Premature Dead Battery" where some ppl are having battery charging issues, both on CM7 and at least me using Phiremod build. I had done the battery calibration process , and I was trying to drain down the battery so I could do a full uninterrupted recharge, but at 18% left it just...died. Thinking that it just ran out.
I connected to the wall charger, but it just kept doing bootloops, getting as far as the Google logo, then restarting. I was finally able to charge mine back up yesterday, but not sure what happened or what caused it. There is a thread about the battery issues here on xda, seems like the most recent nightlies have solved the issue

Now an officially supported AOKP device

http://aokp.co/release-jb-mr1-build-4/
Anyone check it out and see how it compares to Hashcode's CM10.1 build? I'm assuming it suffers from similar bugs such as no hwcomposer
Edit: I now see that Hashcode is actually an AOKP maintainer now, so chances are high that this is very similar to his CM10.1, save for the AOKP features
Waiting for more feedback before I check it out.
I've been running it for about a week. I'm really enjoying it. It's very fast, light on battery, and stable. As long as you use a third party app for camera/camcorder, everything works. I would definitely recommend trying this out.

Funny I don't have problems with either of those. Yes camera is a known issue with all JB Kexec roms. You need Camera FX or something of the like.
To previous poster yes I find this way ahead of Icarus HD in terms of JB speed and features. Only thing missing from Icarus is stock camera and if you like the dock apps and smart actions you don't have those stock have to get them yourself.

Anybody else having MMS issues? Was working fine in Build 4 but no longer works in Build 5... changing the CDMA subscription back and forth doesn't appear to work.
Also, does anyone know which CDMA subscription we're SUPPOSED to be on? It seems to work fine on both except with no MMS on either. Very strange...

stock for the rom seems to be the one with all, cdma, lte, gsm, etc. I have not had these issues at all on rev 5. Try "reinstalling" the rev 5 in bootstrap over the current one, that fixed an issue I had with data on the radio for a couple hours.
New build released!
I just installed MR1 build 6 and the stock camera works out of the box. Good start to a new ROM release!!
NOTE: You _NEED_ to install it in rom-slot2. It will tell you that after you start flashing, so when you're too late to cancel it.

Anyone know how to get Motorola Smart Actions to work on this ROM? Also the Stock Cardock app would be nice as well. Let me know if it's as simple as just putting it in system/apps and installing. Thanks!
If it doesn't work get Tasker. I know it's pay ware but it's only $2 down from $7. It beats the Crap out of the smart actions tool.

[Q] Mirror of Hashcodes CM10.1?

Howdy all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. First off sorry for posting this here. I would have responded to Hashcode's thread in Android Dev but sadly I can't post in dev yet =(
I'm looking for his latest 5/14 release, cm-10.1-20130514-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip. Unfortunately goo.im is down (or intermittent at best) and I have a Kindle Fire HD stuck in recovery.
If anybody happens to have a copy I would be most appreciative. I could even BT sync (love that protocol) it back to other members if you provided me with a copy.
Thanks in advance.
Best I can do is this, the most recent release.

If any other members need this and Krsmqn's link is down, I can repost it or bt sync it.
Also it looks like goo.im is sort of back up (~15KB/s right now)
I see goo.im is having major issues over the last few days. I'll do my next postings at dev host.

Thanks for the response Hashcode. Since I've got you here (I'm working on that 10 post minimum...) I wanted to let you know that although the older 1.5 GHz kernel froze my kindle on boot, your new 1.5 GHz OC kernel works excellent! No hanging on boot and no performance issues.
I also wanted to note that although the camera is working on your 5/14 release, the camera app link is nowhere to be found. Is there any way enable that? Programs like "Nexus 7 Camera Unlocker" work to pull the camera back to the app screen.
Thanks for all your work turning my kindle into an amazing tablet!

The camera app not showing up is because Google has it only showing on devices with a rear facing camera. Apparently they think that no one will want to use a front facing camera for pics

[ROM][4.4.4][Unofficial] AOKP TF701T [06-27-1014][Nightlies]

Just wanted to share an unofficial build of AOKP for our TF701T's I did for myself.
Special thanks to Team AOKP for their wonderful rom!
Disclaimer: You flash it, you break it, you fix it. I will be update the builds weekly or so as new features are added into AOKP regularly.
Flash the same as any other rom. Use current Banks Gapps.
Known issue: I have enabled the glcomposer in the build.prop because the overall smoothness and battery life is greatly improved. However, because ASUS hasn't updated past 4.3, there may be occasional graphical glitches. You can disable the glcomposer by removing the one line in build.prop containing glcomposer in it BUT do try as it is first and see the difference for yourself. I have been using it for a couple weeks now and the graphical glitches are very small and barely noticeable.
Examples of where to see smoothness include: Scrolling homescreens. Swiping pages in App Drawer. Swiping pages in the widget drawer. Swiping away notifications while on homescreen. Swiping down notifications and quicktiles while on homescreen. Swiping to Google Now page in GEL launcher.

Excellent work. Very fast. No graphical glitches so far that i can see. Lets of options.:good:
It's great to see another ROM option for the tf701t! I just tried this out. The graphics really are quite smooth, and I love all of the customization options. Alas, as with cyanogenmod and cromi, Bluetooth functionality is severely diminished -- a mouse barely moves the cursor at all and a keyboard has severe typelag making it unusable. Any idea what's going on thereand how to fix it? I'm happy to be a guinea pig.

Im amazed how smooth it is. I guess this shows with this tegra4 theres still room for improvement which is a good thing.
It's very nice. The camera doesn't crash, and I the current version of Netflix doesn't crash. With some roms I've had to use 3.0.

Not a mouse, but I had another bluetooth keyboard, so I paired it up and gave it a try. Worked perfectly fine with no typelag :/ The one that doesn't work is a combo keyboard/touchpad. I don't think xda will let me link to a product on amazon, but it's a "tp cromeer" branded case with builtin bluetooth keyboard/touuchpad. Made for the N8000, but it fits the tf701t quite nicely.
Any idea why just this one device wouldn't work?

I actually have a mini combo keyboard touchpad I can try tonight.
My guess is going to be some sort of silly device incompatibility though...
I dont have any problems with this inexpensive bluetooth keyboard.
I do find though. I dont know if its possibly the kernel or android itself or if too many apps are running in the background. Input in general and reponsiveness is lost completely until reboot. It starts to lag all input I think. Like touch sensitivity etc. I wonder if anyone else has found this on to be the case on this device. Not sure if there is some app thatll restore it by killing processes possibly. Another thing I notice is that Android is running tonnes of threads. Compared to the few that run on linux. 600+ on android. Less then 100 threads on Linux usually depending on the distro. This rom right now has 900+ threads showing in htop. But it is still smooth as butter. Maybe thats not a big deal then.

It happens on all roms, but it would be a very subtle thing. I dont see it really as a problem. Just something that requires a reboot.

Yes -- I know exactly what you're talking about I think.
On any ROM I've tried, it happens. A fresh reboot always clears things up, but after running a few apps (and / or putting the tablet to sleep overnight perhaps?) the whole system lags a bit. General stuff, like switching programs and running apps like Tapatalk and Engadget (for example). I'm forced to kill apps manually, and that sometimes does the trick.
One thing I tried out yesterday that seems to be helping -- give this a shot too: in your developer settings, you'll see that you can restrict how many background processes are running. Currently, I have background processes limited to just 2 at a time (and also "strict mode" enabled)... and I have to say, I'm noticing a difference! Might take some more testing to see what the pros and cons of this are, but if it just means that I don't have background processes piling up on me, this might be a workaround?
Aside from that, has anyone tried Greenify with good results?

Currently, I have background processes limited to just 2 at a time (and also "strict mode" enabled)... and I have to say, I'm noticing a difference! Might take some more testing to see what the pros and cons of this are, but if it just means that I don't have background processes piling up on me, this might be a workaround?
Aside from that, has anyone tried Greenify with good results?

Honestly guys, I don't see this issue using this AOKP rom...I've left it for a few days no reboot, and I don't see any slowdowns/lag.
On a brighter note, I have a new build ready to be uploaded tonight.
I messed up some merges for battery/charging and was struggling to sort it out the last couple days.
All good now.
New build will be up later tonight.

Problem with my TF701T after rooting

I just rooted my tablet using instructions from several sources here, and have a bit of a problem. I rooted it because of a slightly annoying problem with the touch screen. It worked great 90% of the time, but occasionally I would have to tap an icon a few times for the screen to respond. I have not installed any Rom on it as I decided to keep it stock for the time being. That could change real quick though!! After I rooted it, the problem has increased. I did install several tweaking apps on it (Enterprise ram and digitizer booster, Optimus Root Memory Optimizer, and Entrophy Fixer) and a few games that I had on it before. Removing the digitizer app did no good. The odd thing about it is, I do not notice the touch screen issue if I am playing a game, only when I touch the application icons or links. There does not appear to be any app available to calibrate the screen. Has anybody else had this issue with the 701? Thanks for any help you can provide!!

Thank you. That is what I am leaning towards. I am looking at CROMi-X 7.0.3. Which one did you flash?

Installed the latest version of CROMi, and no luck. The problem remains. Plus I apparently lost root. I will mess with it more tomorrow!

i have tried just about all the available Roms for the tf701, currently using the new CM12 which runs very well, make sure you do a full wipe/format before hand though, try this app, also worked for me, the one on the OP page

I may end up trying CM12. I am also getting an error at boot up , "the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" . It does not seem to be causing any problems, but it is annoying nevertheless. Also, this rom is nice, but I see no performance difference between it and stock. I tried that calibration app you linked to, but it does not seem to have done anything. Thanks!

Where did you find CM12? I have been searching the web and all I can find is CM11!

I may actually wait on this after reading the blog. Is there anything that is not working on this at this time? I do not have the dock, so the one limitation listed would not affect me. Would the performance of this rom be better than the Cromix I have on it now?

I doubt it, but doesn't hurt to try. CM12 is in beta though. CROMi-X 7.1 was just released. The "xxx process has stopped" is a bug that will be ironed out soon. You did clean install the rom, did you?
But if you have the same problem on different roms it's unlikely that your touch problem is software related.
To rule out a software problem you should format data and reflash the rom. Format, not just wipe. Which will delete all data on your tablet.
Also try with the microSD out. Bad cards can cause all kinds of weird problems.

Thank you for your response. I was able to fix the process error, but I still ended up putting CM12 on it anyhow! It took me all of 10 minutes and I have had no problems so far. It is very smooth and fast. I did a wipe/format, and a dalvik wipe before I put CM12 on it using CM 6.0.5.1 (I think that is the correct version). Not sure I did that correctly though, since my download folder on the tablet was still intact afterwards. My LCD problem is more than likely hardware, but it is more of an annoyance than anything. It only affects opening up apps. The screen works great in games and just typing.
