Nexus 6 and Moto Voice? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm still waiting on my nexus 6 from T-mobile which has been on backorder since 11/21/14 and I'm growing more inpatient everyday. Could anyone verify if the Moto Voice app, A.K.A always listening feature, from the Google play store works on the nexus 6? I hope so because they are both Motorola phone and essentially similar to the Moto X 2014 edition which has always listening feature built in to the software. I just bought the Moto Hint earbud ( http://www.motorola.com/us/accessories-bluetooth-headsets/Moto-Hint/moto-hint-pdp.html) and love it so far. I also know that it functions much better with the always listening feature on the Moto X. So at this point I'm basically waiting for someone to verify if it indeed works on the Nexus 6 before I make my final decision. At this point I might just take the Moto X with its always listening feature over the Nexus 6 so that I can unleash the Moto Hints full potential, unless the Moto Voice can be installed on the Nexus 6 in which case I'll get that. Thanks for reading.

why are you waiting so long? im also in brooklyn, ordered from tmo on the phone, and got it next day. anyways, the nexus 6 includes the feature of always listening, even when the screen is off. and the double tap to wake can easily be re-enabled. no, motorola specific apps do not work on a nexus 6.

Thanks. I have no idea. I ordered the 64gb version and have been on the phone with at least a dozen representatives from Tmo and nobody has been able to give me a straight answer. I found a store in Manhattan that had the 32gb in stock. Guess I'll just go and pick that up tomorrow then. Thanks again.

Yeah, I waited long enough. Just going to get the 32gb. Thanks again though. Is the Nexus 6 as great as one can imagine??

i had a fear about its size not going over to well with me. im not very big, 5'7". but, it wasnt as big as i expected, and have gotten very comfortable with the size. now my nexus 5 feels tiny in my hand. the dual front facing speakers though, they are awesome! especially for movies and music

Nice. Can't wait to get my hands on mine tomorrow.

The Moto X or Note 3 or LG G2 or Nexus 5??

Which one y'all this going to be the best? Right now I have the Moto X and it's the best phone I had so far but what about these other great phones are they just as good or better? Will the Nexus 5 be like the Moto X just with a bigger screen and a little differences? What y'all think?

I have the SGS4 and honestly I'm so over skins on android. so no matter what the specs on a phone I'm done with anything skinned. That said I am torn between the Moto X and nexus 5. The 5 maybe has better specs but I really love the X and want motorola and the USA made X to do well. So in in the fence. 60% Moto x 40% nexus 5
I tried the Note 2 last year and hated the huge size. So for that reason the Note 3 is completely out of the question (even though i'd love it).
The LG G2 is out of the question for me also because in my opinion if i'm gonna get a 5" phone it's going to be the Nexus 5.
That being said, I love my Moto X. I have one more week to return it to AT&T and decide if I want something else but i'm not sure what i'm going to do.
From what I can tell the only advantages to the Nexus 5 will be the larger screen, the fact that it's LCD (which I prefer) and the development will probably be awesome.
The Moto X has SUCH good battery life, comfortable size, active notifications, and as someone else mentioned... built in the US which I like.
I'm pretty torn between the X and the Nexus 5 and ultimately i'll probably end up keeping the X and if anything i'll sell it down the road and pick up a Nexus 5 off contract.

Its posts like this that make me want the X and not wait for the nexus 5
Yea I got the Moto X on the first of October so it's to late for me if I wanted to switch. I have Sprint. I love the phone but I have a feeling it's going to be like the Nexus 5 so it's no need to bring the Nexus 5 but I hope it gets Updated just as fast as the Nexus phones.

Are you still using an S4? It's hard to appreciate how awesome the Moto X is until you actually use it.
Every night I still have between 20-40% battery with 2-5 hours screen on time over about 16 hours.
I've never seen anything like it except phones like the Note.

Yes unfortunately haven't decided if I want to plunge the 600-650 for the moto x or wait and see what the nexus 5 costs
I hope the Sprint Moto X gets updates right away. And when I went to Sprint I was going to get the IPhone 5C but then I saw the Moto X so I got it and I made a good decision it's a very awesome phone.

Well that changes things a bit in my opinion. If I were looking at paying full retail for the Moto X or potentially as low as $349-399 for the Nexus 5 I would absolutely choose the Nexus 5 every single time.

And there lies the conundrum. The person I was selling the sgs4 to decided he didn't want to wait any longer. I now have only the option of gazelle or buyback world. The most their giving is 322 so if this nexus doesn't drop by months end that will go down as well

Just check out www.swappa.com you make an account and list your phone. Check how much other phones like yours sold for to figure out an asking price and I generally ask for 20 over that to allow wiggle room.

Phone is up. Selling it a 32g Samsung SD and the S view cover
I know I hate skinned android and I dont have much time to flash or keep up with the latest ROMS, so LG, Samsung, and HTC were out for me. I picked up the moto X and I will probably hold onto it for a little while and then sell if for the nexus.
That being said, the X is an awesome phone. Great form factor, active notifications are awesome, good battery, no lag or issues.

[Q] Does the new Moto X support MHL or Slimport for video out?

I remember when I was thinking about getting a Motorola phone a few years ago I found out that it didn't support anyway to output to HDMI. Does the latest flagship Moto X (2014) still not do video out or have that added that feature to the new model?
Spoke to a customer care representative about this, and he confirmed that the new Moto X doesnt support this either

Darn. Thanks for the quick answer.
I hope the Nexus 6 will have SlimPort since it's based on the New Moto X and the last two Nexus phones had it. The more I research the New Moto X on Verizon, the more it looks like I'll be going with the Nexus instead. I really wanted to get this phone though.

Slimport is pretty expensive though, unless you have one already that won't be an issue. The Moto X is still a pretty sweet device not many issues with this device, I wanted to go for the nexus 6 as well coming from nexus 5, but the size and the price are a big turn off. If you've set your mind on going with the N6, do visit a store to actually feel it in hand before buying it. I was looking at some 6inch Sony phones when i was making my decision, to get an idea as to what i was gonna deal with and I just couldn't see myself carrying such a humongous device everyday.
Chromecast is the future of video out on Android phones, especially nexus and near-stock versions.

waiting or getting somethg else?

Touchwiz has it's pluses and minuses, and yeah it's ugly, I much prefer the nexus software, I'm currently using an N5, but I will also make pretty good use of the s pen, I definitely miss it at times.... plus, the possibility of a zerolemon extended battery.
I'm now quite liking the idea of owning both of these devices, as that way, i'll know for sure which one I want to keep

I originally wanted the Moto X. But then I figured since my 2012 N7 is on it's way out (I discovered today that the audio jack no longer functions) I would get the n6 and replace both my phone and my tablet at the same time. But now I'm not sure what I want to do anymore...

The Nexus 6 is just a big phone. The Note series are a true phablet. You can live with it for ebooks. I'm a heavy user. I currently charge my Nexus 5 2-3x a day.
the note 4 is a great choice over the nexus 6 for many reasons

[Q] Worth switching from a Moto X 2014?

Hi all,
I currently own a Moto X 2014 and I'm considering buying a Nexus 6. Does anyone who owns the Nexus 6 think it's worth the upgrade from the Moto X 2014? I know the Nexus 6 has better specs, but the devices look near enough identical apart from size obviously. I miss my fast Nexus updates which is the main thing pulling me towards the N6.
Had the X 2014 for about a month. Miss the development community of the nexus. If you can handle the size then its an all around better phone. No regrets since switching.
I have a N6 in my cart and a X 2014 in my hand. If moto suite were able to work on the N6 I would click on process order now. But I don't think I could live without it.
Thanks for the replies. The Moto suite doesn't bother me too much I could easily live without it. The size of the Nexus 6 is a bit of a concern but I'm sure I'd get used to it. I think I'll sit on this over the weekend before making a decision. I do miss the Nexus developer community.

Yes.
I had the 2014 Moto X and returned it for the Nexus 6. I too was concerned about the size of the Nexus but its really not that bad. I don't miss the Moto X at all. The fast updates and Dev community makes the Nexus a clear winner IMO.

I had the M8 too but it bothered me how tall it is and how the camera was worse than my M7. I ordered Moto X and it was almost $622 with leather back and I could not justify getting a bad camera and small battery for that price. I returned my Moto X 2014 (I've had 2) and jumped to Nexus 6. No regrets at all. It is every bit Motorola and Nexus. Miss the Moto Voice at times but that is the only thing I miss. Just my .02 cents.

They made M8 like iPhone and I dislike iPhone with a passion (trying to not use the hate word) lol
No, the camera module is completely different.
Moto X has an older version of Sony sensor (IMX135) that is 5 piece I believe and has f2.4. It's a pretty old sensor that I don't think anyone else is using but I may be wrong.
Nexus 6 has the same sensor (IMX214) as OnePlus One and a lot of other 2014 phones with 6 piece lens and f2.0 for wider aperture and better low light pics. OIS helps too of course. They need to work on their software but that's a whole different can of worms.
Motorola did something right with the X by going with Sony sensor but they picked a very old sensor that may have been laying around just like they did with the processor on 360. I have no complains about my 360 but I'm just making a point. I don't know why they do it but I am seeing a pattern here?

Thanks for the clarification. Do you think Lollipop will bring any software improvements to the Moto X? I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Nexus 6. I almost purchased a OnePlus in the week but decided I'd rather not go down that road. So, for me it's either stick with the Moto X until the M9 is released or get a Nexus 6. The only thing that slightly concerns me about the Nexus 6 is its size. However, I'm sure I'd adjust.

You're very welcome. Instead of saying thanks, better thing to do is hit the thanks/thumbs up that helps with other person's repo and gets the point across.
Anyways, I used the X with Lollipop and didn't see much difference. Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad camera and software is pretty decent but it is just not there yet. Being an old sensor, I think it has it's limitations on top of software. Go to a store like TMobile, ATT or Sprint and play with one before pulling the trigger. It feels just like X, just bigger IMHO.
I actually lioe the dimple and sides better on N6 since X is almost too skinny and slippery.

The size takes about a week to get used to. It also depends on what your previous phone was. To me, I started becoming comfortable after a day or two because the phone I had prior to this was 5.5.
Once you use it for a week, you won't want to go back and your view on phones will look different especially to phones that don't have wide screens

I did have a G3 earlier this year and I was happy with the size of that device, so the Nexus 6 should suit me. I really miss owning a Nexus phone and all the perks that come with it.
I've played with a Nexus 6 in store today and the size is fine. However, now I've got Lollipop on my Moto X 2014 I'm even more torn.
Maybe you should ask this same question in the moto x forum. Both sides of the fence...

Nexus 6 or Moto X Pure?

What are your opinions regarding the Nexus 6 vs the Moto X Pure? Which do you think will be future proof? Does anyone know if either of these can do simultaneous talk and web browsing on Verizon?
I know nexus 6 on Verizon cannot surf web over lte and talk at the same time. Semi-obviously you can still talk and browse over WiFi.
Before Nexus 6, I tried moto x 2013 dev edition... And to be honest it paled in comparison to the community support of nexus 6. Not sure if it is the same on the newer pure models.... But on the dev edition you could not downgrade the got or boot portions, and very few unofficial updates were provided by community. People largely just ran stock with xposed, afraid to fastboot stuff for fear of bricks, and with little to no ROMs because no one wanted to loose the stock framework, and xposed does everything.
Was not a very good environment for tinkering and learning tbh. Nexus has many more possibilities.
MotoX wins for stock features though, nexus ambient display pales in comparison to the 2013 moto x.

Nexus 6 can do simultaneous voice and data on Verizon if have VOLTE enabled. All new Motos on Verizon are the same.
VOLTE appears to lead to a lot of dropped calls if you live in or travel to areas with poor 4G support from what I've read. Is that correct? That is why I never enabled in when I had my S6. Does Google still release updates for the older devices such as the Nexus 5? Just wondering how Google is to older Nexus devices.
Never had a moto x phone but I believe this one does boil down to user choice more than specs. I'm going with the whale though

I would switch to the Moto X Pure Edition and probably will when it is released. I really like the Nexus 6 but the Moto X has one thing I really want: a microSD card slot.

It was released a couple of days ago, you had 4 replacements in those days? Highly unlikely

This new moto x isn't the first one labeled as the pure edition. Simmer down some

All Nexus phones down to Nexus 4 (2012) received updates to LMY48I (5.1.1). Nexus 5 got update to MPA44I (6.0). So, yes Google takes care of older devices.
So anybody have anymore thoughts on moving from a Nexus 6 to the new Motorola Moto X Pure 2015? I'm still thinking about it but I'm wondering which is better for customization with ROMs/rooting. If anyone has any thoughts on anything between the two phones, please share. Thanks guys.
Not sure how it is now.... But 2013 moto x dev edition you couldn't ever downgrade, meaning you couldn't ever try out an upgrade with out being stuck.
This, combined with everyone not wanting to loose stock features meant no one did anything but run xposed. I think its going to be hard to beat nexus if your main thing is customization.
I'll be selling my Nexus 6 and getting the new moto pure. Its a no brainer for me.

What are you reasons for selling your Nexus 6 and getting the new moto? Have you heard about modding/customization at all? Thanks.

I don't care much for modding/customization. Just root is fine with me so I can use adaway and my android tools.
SD card slot is a huge plus with me since I have so many photos/videos on my phone, I take an extreme amount of photos and I like having a lot of music for the gym.
I haven't tested it myself, but I do expect a better camera.
I myself prefer the natural colors of a LCD display than amoled.
Front facing speakers are pretty much the same which is a plus and the screen size isn't much different.
I love my nexus 6 don't get me wrong. But the moto pure better suits my needs than this phone. Processing power won't be much different or noticeable and I'm cool with that.

Im hoping someone can find out if there will be any modding options for the new moto x. Anybody else, please chime in. Thanks.

What modding options exactly are you looking for? Custom ROMs? Unlocked bootloader will set you free

Yes, just wondering if custom ROMs will be available for the new moto x. I figured the bootloader would be unlocked. But just wondering if it's worth giving up my nexus 6 for. Thanks.
I was in the same situation a week ago Pure X vs N6, the new nexus arent all that appealing to me the Huawei is god ugly the N5X looks nice but with midrange specs (will pick one up if its on carrier subsidy though for the GF), if you dont need the SD Card, dont take an extreme amount of Pics, and don't mind AMOLED then the N6 is a very good buy right now, they're dropping in price you can get a 64 gb for 339 now, and 32gb under 300... The pure x starts at 399 for a 16gb model... any customizations you add will add to the cost...the newer SoC isnt worth the extra 200 or so if you dont need the SD Card and Camera.. The Pure X will have decent amount of dev since it can be unlocked (btw unlocking the BL on the Pure X voids warranty since its technically not a Dev edition) but nothing ever beats a Nexus in regards to developemt/custom roms etc.. I chose to save 200 dollars and came back to the Nexus 6.

Great info, thank you!!!! I don't take alot of pics anyway and I think the AMOLED screen is a little better far as color, pure colors that is. And yes I got my Nexus 6 64 gb for $350 sent to me so I do like it. Just thought I might trade up but I'm definitely thinking about keeping the Nexus, just wanted to see someones thoughts on customization of the new moto x. Thanks again. Anybody else wants to share, please do.
