I went out for drinks, used my phone all night, came home around 3am, the phone was fine. I checked my phone around 6:45 and it was ok with about 85% battery charge. At 9:45am, i picked up my phone and it wouldn't respond, I plugged it into the usb charger and held the power button and volume up button but nothing happened. Has this happened to anyone else? However I have made up my mind to send it back to Sony.
there has been several threads about a similar issue where people reported their phone bricked though most reports claim phone being bricked after left in the charger for hours, you can see those threads here and here

This is completely undiscovered territory for me, as I have been over and under the forums looking for a solution....
Here's the problem as it happened:
Every night around 10pm, I plug my phone in to charge, which I did the previous night. Normally, my schedule has me up and leaving the house at 4:30am except on weekends which I am normally up by 6am.
Friday night at 10pm, I plugged the phone in to charge as usual. The next morning I unplugged and checked the phone as usual and everything seemed fine.
I had left the phone to sit unattended for some time while I got ready to go out for the day, then grabbed my phone, put it in the holdster and left.
My day was quite busy and I never checked my phone for the first 2 hours after leaving the house. When I did it was unresponsive, so I did the customary reset and nothing.
I assumed a dead battery so I just waited until I was back in the car. When I plugged it in, I saw the red light and, assuming the battery was just dead I left it.
The phone has done nothing else since... just the red light.
I'm assuming this phone might be a goner but I wanted to put my feelers out. I have not tried MTTY yet and I'm assuming it probably won't work anyway.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm using a well-used and worn out Kaiser (my back-up) right now, same rom/radio/kernel/etc. to see if I can replicate what happened... (I know, flirting with disaster).
Apparently I didn't look hard enough because I found the thread for the RLoD and followed the instructions.
Charger connected, back panel off, battery out.
Hold power button and rapidly connect/disconnect battery from terminals by holding at an angle (may take up to 100 times to get it).
Red light goes out, green light flashes, phone boots.
BUT!...
Test the phone before you take it for the day.
I was unfortunate enough to not realize that the phone hadn't charged overnight and reset the battery counter to 80% at 3.6 volts.
I was lucky enough to grab a databackup.img and copy everything to the spare phone.
maybe there's a problem with the connection in the usb port.
I had A LOT of charging issues right out of the box when I got my first TL in April. The main issue was it had to be powered on to charge. Not a helpful situation when the Battery is at Zero. I had to do the workarounds just to get it to power on, and that was rarely successful the first try. It would also power down at 20% and record a different % when powered back on.
The last time it died it took being plugged in for over 12 hours to power back on. When It finally came to life, the touch screen was unresponsive, and any attempt to repair it VIA PC Companion or other programs failed. PC Companion would not recognize it being turned off + VOL Down, this likely tied to the fact that it would not charge if it was powered off.
Talked to Sony, They said mail it in. Luckily AT&T has two warranty repair centers close by. Tech Guy tried to hard reset it (Did that a 1,000 times myself) Power + Volume Up until 3 vibrates. When that failed, he Overnighted me a replacement no questions asked.
Got the new one today FedEx from Texas. Just the phone, no cables or box. I have to return the Borked one in the container this one arrived in FOC. First thing I do is plug it in. It Charges While Off!!! It gives the classic battery level indicator if the power button is tapped! The LED glows green when plugged in and asleep!
TLDR: If your TL or any Xperia does not charge the way you are used to a phone charging, this is not a simple glitch. Your phone is likely to fail and you should take it in and get it swapped via Warranty. Try your provider first

Update: Have had the phone for almost 3 weeks and have not had a single problem! Battery percentage is correct, it will charge via any method, be it car/USB/wall.
Same problem here. I called them last night. Charged overnight, but when I got up, same issue. I'll call today and get another (my 2nd) phone.
Hello, just about to pull the trigger on a new xperia ZU, but i wanted to see if anyone had any tricks for me to try on my Xperia Z. I was running near the latest CM 10.2 without issues for awhile now. Last night while i was bowling the battery died( nothing new happens all the time to me ). When i returned home i hooked it up to the wall charger for about 30 minutes, came back and still no life. I have tried multiple chargers and multiple cables with no luck. Device has been plugged into power all night and all day so far. When i attempt to power on with it unplugged i get the 3 pulse red led. When i hit the power button with it plugged in all i get is a solid red LED. Nothing more, nothing less. Cant get into recovery or anything. Most of the time a hard brick involves a mis flash or something along those lines....any idea what could have happened to mine?

It might be the battery...
Its not advisable to full discharge the battery but it seems that u did it a few times..
The battery might not take any charge as the red indicator means low battery...
Tried a new battery,i know after removing the rear panel n say good bye to water resistance but is worth a try...
Or u can send it to me for free if u wanted to throw it away...
hope this helps...
Had the same thing happen
I had the same thing happen to me. From what I read trying to troubleshoot it seems like the Xperia phones in general can take 30 minutes + after a full battery drain to even register that a charger is connected. I would try just connecting it to the Sony charger for a few hours and see if that works.
There is also a tip about holding down the power button when plugging in the USB charger and continuing to hold the power button until the phone turns on. Unfortunately, can not find the original post right now. EDIT: Found it. http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-T-TX/Xperia-T-Wont-Charge-Turn-On/td-p/252686/page/4
In my case the red light would not even come on when the charger was connected but would come on if I held the power button down while connecting the charger. After I did this for a couple minutes the phone booted and has charged normally ever since.
So its a mixed bag. Try just charging it for a while on the Sony charger or wall charger (not USB). Or try the power button trick.
Lesson I learned is I will not let the battery completely drain again.
Ahhahha it came back alive! I had tried pretty much every trick that has been suggested and it just wouldn't charge or start to boot. Left it on the main charger again last night and still no luck this morning. Again I decided to plug it into my computer's usb port( I did this multiple times already ) and I hit the power button, a backlight came on!!! and then sure enough there was the free xperia logo! I have no idea why it finally decided to power on, but its showing 1% battery so it was truly not charging any of the times it was left on a charger, computer or mains. Thanks for the responses guys, I appreciate it!
I know this thread is pretty old. But I'm having the same trouble. Xperia Z got bricked after battery drain. It wont recognize charging, i kept it on charge two nights in a row now. It did show a red LED while charging for some time and nothing else, but now its back to being stone dead. tried holding down the power button trick, didnt budge. I thought you can only hardbrick it by doing a wrong flash/update. dont know what happened in this case. is there anything else I should try or just take it to a shop and ask to change the battery?

man, try with a new battery, here in my country cost 14 euro . Or go in a service or buy a multimeter and measure the current of ur battery. Normal they from service will give u electrosock to bring it to life. And if will dont work i think u must sell it on piece and buy another
Same problem with my Z3 Compact: one day phone became hot and started to discharge rapidly and when battery became empty, cannot charge and cannot boot, only red LED is ON. I changed the battery and phone booted again. BUT when battery was discharged completely, phone cannot boot again, only red LED is on when trying to charge.
Looks like something wrong with motherboard is happening...
Xperia ZL battery completely drained, not starting up
I know this thread is old one, but I am having issue with my Xperia ZL. Its battery drained to zero and then whenever I plug in my charger, screen starts, Xperia Logo pops up, red light also starts and suddenly everything goes off. This goes on and on infinite number of times. Phone heats up but it doesn't turn on. I had issue with my battery, a couple of months back, so I replaced it with new one. If anybody has any solution about this, please let me know.
xperia z bootloop
im stuck on bootloop and apps keep on optimising through the cycle. phone overheats too .. how do i sort this one out? ..might it be a bad battery? any help on this
So hi,
A couple weeks ago my Xperia Z started acting weird it was plugged in the wall charging. Like I would wake up in the morning, take the cable out of the phone and the led would just stay one and the phone wouldn't respond at all (screen wouldn't turn on nor did it do anything when I would play with volume buttons The only thing that would getting to respond was the old volume up + volume down + power button combination that would reboot the phone.
It's been doing that at least six or seven times since, and it happened last night. It was plugged, I went to turn on the screen and didn't work. Figured it was the same problem as before so I tried to reboot it. Led went off, phone went off, only this time it didn't reboot. I've tried leaving it plugged in the wall for the rest of the night, nothing. It's 1h45 p.m here in France and my phone doesn't do anything since 3 a.m.
So yeah, I think the issue has to do with the battery, and my question is: is there anything I can try or do I send it straight to customer care after contacting them?
Okay so I got my new Moto X yesterday and couldn't wait to get using it but when I took it out of the box it had no power at all and I had to plug it in and charge it which I have never seen before with a new phone.
Anyway it powered up after a few minutes and I charged it to full charge and enjoyed my phone all day today but I didn't get back in time tonight to plug it in and it died just before I got home. I plugged it in and nothing, not even the little green light that shows it is charging when off.
It has been on the charger(the one that came in the box) for the last hour and nothing still. I have tried holding power and volume down, power and volume up and holding just the power for over minutes. I have also tried to charge it with other chargers as well.
It is not recognised by my computer either.
If someone could help I would be very grateful.
Thanks
Update, I got it sorted by plugging it into a low powered charger from a standby phone we have in the house(Nokia 520) and after a few minutes when I pressed the power button it showed the charging symbol on a white background. Let it get to 4% and it powered on no problem.
Still a weird problem and even more so the fact that it was dead when I opened the box.
By the way the other chargers that I tried do work so not sure why only a low powered charger worked.

I've heard that sometimes Motorola sells the phones marked as warranty and said that is new. When you send back a phone to any company to warranty they often send you a brand new phone. What do you think they do with all those phones?

They sell them as refurbished phones, I doubt a company as like Motorola would sell those phones as new and be held liable if they were caught. Even the phones that are pulled for quality control are tests are sold as refurbished.
I'm going to let it run out of battery again and if it happens again then I will get it replaced.
