Hey guys,
Thought I'd post this here and keep you guys updated on further developments.
I live in the Netherlands and bought a 32GB version at Dixons at the 13th of November 2012
I had found the touchscreen a bit unresponsive sometimes in the past.
But couldn't really find out why it was acting up. I finally isolated the issue.
It is exactly the same as this guys vid:
(Thanks for the vid injahnet)
Together with a little backlight bleeding, I decided to send for repair.
(The problem persisted after a factory reset, no other apps were open when testing.)
I went back to Dixons and showed the problem to the Dixons dude.
He acknowledged there was an issue and sent it for repairs or replacement.
Due to the holidays this can take some time. Maybe even next year
I was about to open my tablet for a look inside one of these days, boy am I glad I didn't do that yet
Anyway to get a good view on this issue globally, are there more people that have the same issue?
You could go to: Settings > Developer options > and then under "Input" you can enable Show touches. and try to to the same procedure as in the vid. (Thanks Peterk-1)
Or you could test with MultiTouchTester like Injahnet.
The weird thing is, my dad's N7 16GB does the same.
Update 17-12-2012: Please do not test while plugged in as the device will be grounded and the issue will not occur. (Thanks dad)
Feedback is really appreciated!
Please vote in the poll above!
Cheers,
Daan
I have zero problems with multitouch while using my Nexus 7. Working just fine, but you must disable any apps which interfere with gestures or it'll steal events.
Can't say I've ever used multitouch with the N7 laying on a random object however.
But sure, send it in for repair......... I'll keep using mine.
If anyone thinks they have multi touch problems then loading an app isn't required. Just go into Developer Options and under Input you have two options to display touch and track detail.

I've done a factory reset before I tested No apps are open except MultiTouchTester
It's in for repairs
Well... Over 200 views. And only 4 votes, which includes mine
Community feedback is failing hard.
Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted on the repaired Nexus.
At the moment of writing we know that three people are having this issue.
I know someone else with a nexus I'll check if he has the issue too.
Cheers,
Daan
Yes, i have this problem. And only while device is laying on the table.
Wow, this is bizarre, thanks for pointing it out. I can confirm it happens when it's laying on my pillow, and doesn't when I'm holding it.
Thanks for the vote guys.
By the way, it seems obvious that the Nexus should not be plugged in while testing.
However I cannot test this 'cause mine is at the shop
Would anyone be willing to test?
I'll add that in the original post (+ a mention of your name and a thank you of course))
Cheers,
Daan
Mine was unplugged while testing.

if the two touch-points got the same X or Y coordinate my nex7 does only detect one of them. i don't think this is an issue.

However, zooming in Google maps for example will become quite difficult
Anyone try and see if taping the ground pin on the wifi antenna fixes the issue? This seams like a grounding problem.

Exactly! I was also thinking of this.
Do people who have this issue also have the flickering issue!?
ecoviws buttress
Just an FYI, I installed CM 10.1 with Trinty Seven. Now I get 10 touches on pretty much any surface.
I don't have a multitouch issue, but I do have an entire band on my screen which has stopped responding to touch at times. It all started when I let my tab shut down due to low battery. Initially, the Nexus 7 neither charged (when put on charging, obviously), nor did it boot up. After trying for several hours, somehow it started charging. And since then, sometimes certain areas of my touchscreen become unresponsive to touch. Since the band which is unresponsive is towards the upper part of the screen, using notifications becomes completely impossible. It keeps 'snapping back up' when I try to pull it down, cos while I am pulling it down, the notification tray encounters an unresponsive area, so it just goes back up. Called up Google and they will be sending a replacement device. All I am afraid about is that I have an 8gb version, and they would be sending an 8gb as well, so I hope it isn't refurbished or something, as Asus has stopped making the 8gig model.
I'm having an issue where the screen, ( mostly in a webpage or document,) starts moving up and down and zooming in and out without my input.

Just tested this out and yes, my device is doing it too. Interesting. No other issues like screen flicker (except the auto brightness bug in 4.2). My n7 is c9O

community feedback is not failing hard, more like you're just starting a new thread without bothering to search if issue/topic already exist.
this isn't new and there is no fix, that is just how the touchscreen function. the N7 isn't the only device to have this.

Don't feed the trolls!
Must... not... feed... aaargh....
You are kinda missing the point of this thread.
It is to see how many people have this issue.
There is no thread capturing that in an easy way unless you want to count every post.
Now please tell your brain to start functioning again and leave this thread alone if you have nothing to add.
Asus Google Nexus 7 32GB touch death zone
Hi DaanJordaan,
Found out that my brand new N7 seems to have a similar "no touch zone" issue; an area the size of my little finger on the left lower part of my screen does not seem to react to touch! It interferes with typing the keyboard in portrait mode (no keyboard problems in up-side-down portrait mode).
When I use the Easylabs Multi Touch test I can see the dot changing color when I move over this area, doesn't happen anywhere else on the screen..
Using the developer tools (turning on the two options that allows to show touch/leave a trail of touch) it becomes even more clear that this area does not react to touch! I can "paint" lines around the "no touch zone" (it actually splits into 2 touch areas using one finger around the "death spot"), and the "no touch zone" reveals itself by not showing any trail/history line of touch..
Oh yes, and it does not matter if I lay the N7 on the table, or hold it in my hand, the issue is always there.
Therefore I returned the N7 back to the MediaMarkt, and they will send it in for repairs...
I've got a bad feeling about this | - )
I am curious to hear about experiences with your N7, once you have it back!
I'll report mine here, in three weeks or so (that's the outlook...).
Cheers!
NeverMind
So recently, mostly on swipe enabled keyboards, I have been seeing a ghost swipe register when typing. This happens on all keyboards I've used so it is not a keyboard issue. I saw someone on reddit recently with the same issue and was wondering if it had been reported prior for this phone. I'm coming from a nightmare experience from the OPO's touchscreen so I'm here looking for advice.
I started to notice it about a week ago when texting. At certain occasions, it could act as though i was dragging my fingertips instead of individual taps. Now I have tried this with and without a screen protector and gotten the same issue. I have also only been using 5.1 since I got this phone, so I cannot say that it is an issue with the software since I have nothing to compare it to. I device is unlocked but not rooted and is running the D revision of 5.1.
Anyone seen this corrected, or should I just go ahead and RMA. My phone was built on 3/7/2015 so it is still very new.
EDIT: RMA'd.
Xperia X Performance (F8132) Accelerometer failure & Screen Auto-rotate irresponsive
Hi All,
I got an issue bothering me since I bought Xperia X Perfomance (F8132) Mid June.
The auto rotate function failed after a while but everything goes fine after reboot.
When it fails, I use "Xperia Service Menu" -> "Service Tests" -> "Accelerometer",
then all X,Y,Z are zero and the ball just sticks and freezes at mid.
I bought from Taiwan and I can find 15 more people having the same symptom with me on 2 forums
( http://mobile01.com and http://gamer.com.tw ).
Hence I don't think it's only me and it's a common issue or common yield problem for Xperia X Perfomance.
I post here because I'd like to find more people with the same issue and raise the attention of SONY in order to find the root cause (i guess it's either over-heat causes this or accelerometer yield issue) and give a patch.
Now I'm using a APP "Rotation Control" to workaround this, but all photos cannot records correct orientation data and no auto-rotate is kinda inconvenient.
For a flag-ship and high-priced cellphone for SONY this year, it is very disappointing to me. :crying:
Version: 35.0.A.1.227 and 35.0.A.1.238 both occur

Thank you for letting us know.
It shows it's not a regional FW issue but a global HW or FW one.
I wonder if SONY knowing this. If not, we need to address this and push SONY to work it around.
And if it is not workaroundable, SONY will have a big problem.
I have the same issue on my Xperia X (F5121) bought in Sweden. Haven't checked the accelerometer but the behaviour is the same and reboot is only fix.
I have not had any problems with auto rotation, my accelerometer works fine but my touch screen is messed up

Can you specify "messed up"? I've had issues with the touch screen also, mostly that it registers a tap while I'm scrolling resulting in involuntary tapping on links. Also it often takes a while to start scrolling, as if the screen has a hard time recognising the swipe.
I have the same problem. The accelerometer stop working 15 minutes after reboot.
Help me verify if is caused by a third party app or not.
Use your phone in safe mode for a while.
I'm from Hong Kong, the accelerometer and its auto-rotation of my x performance has the same problem that it won't work until i reboot my phone.
I dont think that is caused by a app crashing when the problems occuring in all around the world.
The issue didnt come to me when I was not yet update to 35.0.A.1.282. Please notice this problem SONY. It seriously affected the satisfaction from user of the phone from your brand.
There is a topic on the Sony support forum - see here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-X-Performance/Accelerometer-stops-working/m-p/1158490#U1158490
At least they are aware of the problem. As soon as it happens again on my phone, I will send them my logs. I will report any development...
It seems that I uninstall the AR effects in my phone and reboot, it works again
Rotation fails
Hello guys,
I have the same problem. Yesterday it worked fine, but today, the auto rotate don't work. Very disappointing. Only a reboot can help but not every time.
Sony has to do something with it.
Gyroscope/Auto-Rotation Issue
Hey everyone,
I'm also having this same issue, but only since the most recent update from late September. When trying to make a pic display as fullscreen by rotating the phone, nothing happens, unless I reboot the phone. Then within day or two, it starts happening again. When I go to camera it loads up and STAYS in landscape mode, no matter what I do, even closing it out and clearing out the cache & force stopping it then reactivating it. It seems like a software issue that Sony needs to address PRONTO!
It appears another thread here on XDA is dealing with the same issue. I tried shenlong85's idea and it seems to have fixed the issue, but I need another day or so to make sure. If you don't hear from me by Sunday (10/23), assume it's been fixed. Hopefully the Nougat update we're all about to get any day now will permanently fix it!
The memory uninstall updates only prolong the issues. Seems like the firmware issue earlier on.
Nougat... When are u coming?

Well, we'll see. I am giving my XP 'til Sunday........if no more auto-rotate issues by then, then I will consider your idea to be gold. lol Of course, once we get Nougat, I'm hoping it will ensure that the issue never comes back period. As of this time, the issue has NOT returned.
I bought my Xperia X Performance from Kogan who sells imports in Australia from Asia and I have the exact same issues with my orientation and touchscreen. However my jumpy touchscreen only seems to occur while charging.

I tried shenlong85's idea, but less than 24 hours after trying it, I switched my phone from Portrait to Landscape to view a 16:9 widescreen pic I had in my Album, and it WOULD not auto-rotate the pic. So unfortunately this "trick" doesn't work either.
Just have to hope Sony includes a fix with the Nougat update we're about to get any day now from them.
I'm noticing now too that once the Auto-Rotate function stops working, so does Smart Call Handling. Have to swipe screen once again to take calls. Hurry up Nougat!! lol
I'm having the same issue and the only help I'm getting from Sony support is to factory reset my device :\ I'm hoping Nougat makes it's way to our devices soon. I really like this phone and this is a pretty big issue to have.

I agree Spencer. And yes Sony Mobile told me the same thing. I'll do a repair (which yes, includes a factory reset) only IF Nougat doesn't fix it. They say we're getting it "in or close to October", so I'm guessing it's gotta be coming any day now. Hopefully they include a fix with Nougat though and I don't have to do that. Getting tired of this BS with Sony. My Z3 had an issue where if I turned on Stamina Mode, it would 1) mess with my MMS (group/pic/video) text messages.........you don't know how many times I had to ask ppl to resend those to me and how much that sucked lol 2) Cause a "random" battery drain. Only fix was a factory reset. I FINALLY got wise and realized it was SM and kept it off. Found a great app called 360 Hibernation Master that did what SM was supposed to do but better, MINUS the buggy BS. But OF COURSE it doesn't work on any X series phone (at least not my XP), so I'm stuck with SM now. At least Sony Mobile FINALLY fixed that bug with SM so that's not an issue anymore. lol
It is a big issue, and it makes me not want to keep buying their phones.
Hi! Sadly as many of Z3C users after 2 years of great usage, my touchscreen stopped responding in navigation bar area. I still used my phone using Pie style navigation buttons. Sadly, today a unresponsive vertical stripe showed up, so i guess my touchscreen is slowly dying. My question is - has anyone had some experience with replacing screen? I read few posts from people that replaced their screen, that after few months the problem showed up again. I'm wondering if it is a common thing, and replacing the screen is unprofitable. Replacement would cost about 1/3 price of new phone, and also i really like z3c. I would love to hear your experience if you have any!
Think mine has done the same after 3 years of usage. I have an unresponsive vertical strip on the far right side of the screen, didnt drop it or get it wet or anything. Very annoying
Would also be interested to hear if anyone got the screen replaced. Really enjoyed using this phone, its been through the wars and this is the first problem Ive had with it.
Same problem here, about 3 weeks ago I couldn't pull down the status bar anymore except on the home screen.
Since this morning, my navbar stoped working, after nearly 3 years of using.
I think its a litte odd that it suddenly stopped working in this particular, critical area (nav bar, status bar).
Hi! Same problem here with navigation bar. I don't know what to think about sony anymore. I have been using since xperia active - xperia go - z3 compact.
I can not remember what was wrong with the active, with the x-go the power button broke and now this... I guess is a matter of time for the vertical issues.I also still have this very old LG p500... still working, not like a charm but does the job. I am a little bit sad, all this time fighting against the desire to unlock the bootloader and now this. Is time for LineageOS or CarbonROM and save some money too for a new... sony? I donĀ“t know
same problem
Same problem here after device just a tad older than warranty period. Giving up on Sony devices and their attitude to customers.
Hello, friends
I heard about all the complaints about the touch issues on this phone, so i went and try that touch scree test
Turns out, during the test, the phone records input that i didn't made, but, for my surprise, out of the test in real use, i never got any ghost touching any zoom problems, scroll problems, nothing.
I have the phone for more than a month now. EU snapdragon version, fully UNLOCKED (6GB/128)
I even try to make the ghost touching happen in real use, scrolling just like i did in the test app i tried it on youtube; instagram; reddit; youtube music; play store; on the samsung news feed, etc...
Does anyone also had a positive test, but didn't had any real issues?
Thanks

Weird right?
Gives me mixed feelings about it,because the problems that are being reported are impossible to note notice if you or me had them
It's like a fake positive in a COVID-19 test XD
Looks like the latest firmware update has fixed the problem.
S20 FE Touchscreen Issue Thread : Galaxy_S20 (reddit.com)
This is a problem for people who play games like pubg mobile. The top left corner which is on left of camera for me the problem lies there. While keeping 2 fingers on screen and pressing with the 3rd finger on top left side of screen will result in a double tap instead of single most of the time
