All f2fs lollipop roms - Nexus 7 General

Hello, i would like to know how to convert a lollipop rom to full f2fs and wich rom actually support it...Currently im on Slimlp but i need working camera...thanks for the help
Sent from my R800i using XDA Free mobile app

Wait, it will be fixed. Or give up f2fs.

Are you sure you need ALL F2FS? Mine works very well with system on ext4 and the rest on F2FS, I don't notice a difference to the all-F2FS lollipop rom I had used before.
The only thing you have to do for that would be flashing an F2FS compatible kernel, I use phantom with the rom in my signature.
(If you really need all-F2FS, that's the rom I had used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2931064
The camera works. It's a bit outdated, though. )

Do you think is better to leave system on ext4 in order to have the best compatibility/performance? There isnt a working full f2fs converter like on Kitkat?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app

I think it's fine to have system formatted the way the rom needs it, because the impact on performance is negligible.
If I understood correctly, lollipop roms can either be file zips or images, and only the first ones can be easily converted.

[Q] ext4 vs jfs vs reiserfs

which one is better in sgs i9000¿?
Why not ext2?
Doc's Rom DamianGTO kernel
somebody says that ext2 it's not reliable so... i didn't put it.
undoubtedly ext4.
I've never lost any data using ext2, that said, I'm currently using jfs all, with system reiserfs. Phone flies.
Insanity 8
now i'm using fugumod all with jfs also because in the fugumod post somebody told that it was the best but i don't see anything different from ext4
Wrong section and old debate and since google used ext4 for Nexus S most of the dev use it for Galaxy S. Because who know better than google what is best or not
yeah, but testing the filesystem with some apps the jfs beats ext4 on galaxy s i9000. at least it's what i read in another post.
I've used ext 4 a lot before and currently am on fugumod with JFS and I can honestly say my phone never felt faster!
I'm only a day with it though, but haven't had any problems so far. But I don't think it's as unreliable as ppl make it to be, I believe is used without trouble in linux as well.
Now that a lot of FS have been added for us to check out, I think we need a discussion on the best one to use.
This should be in q&a and not in development.

I did a test and the results show that JFS is better in I/O.
I wonder why so many people are so fond of EXT4.
A combo like reiserfs on system and rest on jfs seems like the fastest way to go.

ive heard that if your battery dies on JFS it will corrupt!
Strange Problem with JFS/ReiserFS
In Development Thread there is mentioned, that there is a problem with the language/timezone settings on some systems, but these settings are not the only one affected.
also ringtone/message tone "usb debugging" and more settings seem not to be loaded correctly after reboot, when i convert all partitions to JFS or ReiserFS.
there's no problem with ext4 here...
there is also no problem if i just convert /dbdata to JFS or ReiserFS, but if i convert any other partition my settings are gone again.
where is the diffrence between the ext4 and the jfs/reiserfs driver here? shouldn't the fs be transparent to the userspace part of the OS, or are JFS/ReiserFS partitions mounted too late at boottime?
pls help, i do not want to stay on ext4 and the default.prop fix for language is not enough for me due other settings are affected as well...
i'm running FuguMod 3.5-ultra on JVB

At last, I surrender myself to EXT4

[Q] The Jelly Bean Upgrade Plan

Hey Guys,
Next Weekend (Friday December 20), I will finally make the jump to Jelly Bean from Gingerbread. I know that Kit Kat is also available, but it is much more buggy than Jelly Bean, and stability is my main goal, which is why I stayed on Gingerbread for so long. My plan for upgrading is this:
-Make a complete backup and snapshot of my device (Nandroid + Titanium Backup + Backup both Internal and External SD Cards to Computer) in case something goes wrong.
-Fully format both internal and external SD Cards (Including second Link2SD Partition in Ubuntu)
-Use AIO Toolkit to upgrade to New bootloader, and set up all new partitions, etc.
-Use AIO Toolkit to flash TWRP 2.6.0.0/ 2.6.3.0 For new bootloader (If it becomes available by the time I flash)
-Wipe Everything in Recovery
-Flash the latest TheROM 26 Stable (Most stable 4.3.1, with awesome extra features), + Kowalski Kernel M1 Stable, but I am keeping a close eye on the 3.1 developments (the 3.1 Hijuni port is too unstable for daily use currently, and Pengus mentions that Kowlaski features are being ported and code is being cleaned up for the Kowalski 3.1 release), so basically, I will make the kernel decision the day of the flashing operation.
-Flash Tonyp's full Non-Neon gapps from the development section
-Flash extra ROM Goodies, like feav's camera mod
-Reboot, let sit for a few minutes, and reboot again after first boot
-Begin setting up ROM/ Kernel and begin installing apps fresh from Google Play, and only restoring data from titanium backup for certain apps like games, etc.
Regarding the above, I have a few questions:
To begin, are the above steps proper? Is there anything that I should add or remove?
Secondly, when the 2.6.3.0 for New bootloader becomes available, it is as simple as flashing the new image through AIO Toolkit with no loss of data?
Lastly, does the Full non-neon gapps by Tonyp contain everything? Is there a better gapps to flash? I want the full Google apps experience, and the included mini-gapps does not contain everything I think.
I know this is a long post, but I really want to make sure I'm doing this right, and hopefully someone can use this thread in the future to do things proper also. Thanks in advance.
hi, I think the steps are correct. changing the bootloader will format the internal sd, but it doesn't matter if you format it before it. If tonyp makes a new twrp available you can flash it through the previous version of it, then you reboot recovery and it will be the updated version. not sure about the gapps question, but it surely contains play store, so you can install the latest version of the Google apps manually from it. good luck.

Hello,
Thank you very much. I will continue to research and if I have any questions which I cannot find the answer to, I will ask here. Thanks again.

Yeah. Your steps are fine.
The new 3.1 kernel is awesome. I am using it with TheROM build 25. You might wanna try it.
TonyP's GApps have most of the important Google Apps. It's sufficient, I think.
And, AFAIK, a new recovery doesn't need a data wipe of any kind.
Have fun Flashing and Upgrading!
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Thanks for your answer! I think I will stick with the KK M1 build, and maybe when the 3.1 kernel becomes a bit more stable I will flash it. It's not too big of a deal, because a kernel upgrade is just wiping dalvik and regular caches, installing, and setting up kernel settings, which is a lot less work than a ROM upgrade. I think I will stick with Tonyp's non-neon full gapps, and I'll upgrade the recovery to TWRP 2.6.3.0 newbl whenever it becomes available . Thanks again!

Hello,
I have remebered a question I forgot to ask. Is Pdroid 2.0 supported in TheROM, and if it is, is it stable? Could I just use the auto patcher to add the functionality? Thanks again.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda app-developers app
Starting right now!
Hey Guys,
I'm starting the upgrade right now! I will post results after everything is done. I decided to use XPrivacy instead of the newer PDroids, because they contain bugs and are no longer developed. See you guys on the other side.

Suggestion for fast/stable kitkat rom

Hello,
Going through the Android/Original development forums, I notice a lot of work in progress ROM/Kernels. I used to flash constantly , but those days are over.
I have an old nexus 7 2012 ( has kit kat on it, but already rooted ). Was wondering if someone could suggest a fast/stable ROM/Kernel that is specifically for the Nexus 7 ( not a ROM that is used for both phones/tablets etc ) that is close if not "FINAL".
Stock kit-kat seems slow and of course the battery life blows. Thanks for any suggestions
Standard XDA response to these questions:
Start flashing and decide for yourself. Its all opinion and taste. There's no answer to your question.

@shezzy69 - 4.4.3 is on the horizon! May address some of your concerns.
My ROM BSZKitKat plus M-Kernel by @Metallice is what me and my daughter use on our 2012 nexus 7s. The ROM is nothing special just bone stock zipaligned and rooted (use odex for closest to stock experience). The real magic's in the kernel see his thread for recommended settings. Links:
M-Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168787
BSZKitKat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2533035
Also like @kj2112 said there are TONS of options. My ROM is basic and is just Google's factory image with SuperSU and zipaligned. A lot of very neat compiled from source options can be found in the original development forum! Kernels too. I've tried RASTAKAT ParanoidAndroid SlimKat and CM11... keep coming back to stock much of this is just preference.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't know about 4.4.3 coming, however, I am rooted so would I still be able to get the update legit or would I have to revert back to something else?
Also, I used to be experienced with flashing n7 no problem but am starting to get confused with all the talk of f2fs and am afraid I'll mis-match or corrupt a partion while trying to use f2fs.
The MKernal looks really nice. Which version would you suggest for 4.4.2 stock kit-kat without the f2fs support. Also, can I just install the kernal without a custom rom? Mostly just looking for speed/battery improvements over 4.4.2 stock.
Thank again :good:

You bet! F2fs looks cool I have yet to play with it. Android uses a Linux file system for its disk partitioning called ext4 which was originally designed for disks with read heads and platters... F2fs or something similar is I'm betting its replacement by Google in the future. For now we can try it ourselves like you have been seeing but it requires:
a recovery that knows how to format a partition with the f2fs file system (custom cwm recovery available in original development forum)
a kernel with f2fs support
for f2fs on the /system partition... a rom that before it installs itself will format /system to f2fs
for f2fs on the /data userdata partition (CAUTION) a script to wipe and format /data to f2fs. if you do this backup all your files to something off the device (your PC external HDD etc)!
So yeah lots of work involved there. To start I would pick a non-f2fs ROM like mine or cm11 or paranoid android 4.1 beta or rastakat then M-Kernel a67 (Faux and francokernel are also good) and try things out. Then if you desire even more performance give f2fs a whirl.
Personally stock performs fine once I have M-Kernel all set up. Be sure to leave sufficient overhead I'd say 4.3 GB or so or you'll see huge lag.

I highly appreciate your explanation of f2fs - I'm sure it will help others as well. I think I'll stick with non-f2fs for now. I will def give your kernel a shot. Thanks again for your time and assistance.

Glad to help! Forgot to mention one reason why I love stock so much. It is the pure Google experience but when you add the XPosed Framework with the GravityBox module you can tweak the tablet however you want. Just install XPosed and then inside XPosed download that GravityBox module and you will see what I'm talking about. Here is the thread for it:

I'll look into GravityBox, I've install Xposed before ( for Greenify ) but never used GravityBox before. For GravityBox..does it matter if I use deodexed or odexed? Was going to install your ROM Odex version tonight since I'm no theme creator and prefer boot speed ( is there any other difference ?) and M-kernel as well. I'll report my experiences back after I do so.
F2FS is really not that hard. I'm not a big expert in Android, I just know how to root/install roms, and I managed to flash an F2FS ROM with no problem at all.
You just need a custom recovery like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678140
And an F2FS ROM like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678142 (or any other F2FS ROM).
In the first link there are some instructions, it's maybe 35 words, so you don't have to study it for hours, it's really easy, and I think my N7 is actually much less laggy than it was before.
If you still don't want to bother with F2FS, then try some other ROMS and kernels first, but if you're still not satisfied with the speed of your tablet, just try F2FS.
I'm on CM 11 M 5 with m-kernel test 4 and f2fs on all three partitions. It's completely stable and really fast. No lags anymore. I can only recommend it.

Updating legacy paranoid android to recent kitkat (CM?)

Hello, I've just recently got out to daylight my old gt-p1000 and just wanted to update its 4.2.2 Paranoid Android to some light kitkat android. I'm wondering, if I can just wipe data/factory reset, then cache and just install the ROM with gapps using just CWM, or I need to do some sort of restocking/repartitioning first?
GT-P1000
CWM:v6.0.2.7
Paranoid android 3.15 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2194230
Rom I want to update to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566344 The 16.09 snapshot.
Earlier, from what I recall, there was some MTD ROMs and NO-MTD divisions and I have no idea, if my ROM has this partition layout and if this CM11 contains it too. Also, if I have to worry about some paranoid rom and other "legacy" left overs
Thanks for any replies.
It is not just MTD or non MTD you should worry about.
Even in MTD layout, there has been a few partitioning style when the Devs tweak where the data or system go in the two internal nand storages.
Best is you restock.
The difference is literally 5 min or less.

Can someone recommend a quick way to install android 6 on this one? Formatting to f2fs is needed..

Hello. Can i use android 6 on this model? And how can i fprmat it to f2fs? What recovery should i use? Please link the files needed. Then i can do the rest on my own probably. microG would be prefered. Some privacy rom. Thanks!
I need a backup phone for one thing, and need android 6 for that. I would appreciate some help.
I need a twrp version that supports to format from ext4 to f2fs. Anyone?
You're asking for quite a lot there...someone'll end up telling you to use search
Yes, you can use android 6 on this model, however you may find Marshmallow tends to suck the life out of it....making it annoying to use on a daily basis.
I've stuck with Lollipop for this, still kinda usable as a daily phone with not too many restrictions on installable apps and relatively easy to roll your own rom. f2fs is available on Lollipop too.
As far as I know there aren't much in the way of shortcuts to Marshmallow.
Are you on stock just now?
IIRC, the path is something like stock rom -> flash a kernel with root -> flash a released Cyanogenmod rom from yesteryear (think you can go straight to cm11 but I remember recommendations to do cm7->cm9->cm10->cm11) -> flash Lollipop/Marshmallow.
The Marshmallow rom I played with for a bit was
[ROM][6.0.1] Resurrection Remix M v5.7.3 [27/08/16] by Coldwindofnowhere
Oh yeah...and before you do anything else backup the efs partition/files....if you fluff it you get a generic IMEI which can be problematic.
