Unroot using sony pc companion - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI guys
im currently running slim rom 4.4 on my z1 with unlocked bootloader. im looking to wipe and unroot, the guides ive seen are not to straight forward, im pretty much a complete noob and not very tech savvy, and a little worried about bricking my z1.
recently i connected my z1 to the laptop and sony pc companion auto ran and siad i have an update {157 firmware} for my z1, if i were to go ahead with this update would i brick my phone or would it wipe and be back to factory rom and would root be lost

For unroot, Simply connect your phone to pc and do "repair" in pc companion.
Edit: you lose your data after repair.

If you do repair then it will have a reset. I'm not sure if the repair does update your firmware as well, but I don't think so. And I think the bootloader will still be open. You must relock it before, but again I'm not 100% sure with this.
Edit: if you take out SD card, it can't be deleted. But the internal storage of your phone will be deleted.

Unable to update .244 from OTA for my Xperia Z

Hi,
I am not able to update my XZ to the latest .244 firmware. Here are some info of my Phone.
1) locked bootloader (it is unlockable)
2) current on .423 firmware.
3) rooted
4) install superSU (with survival mode on)
5) install OTA rootkeeper.
I saw some post stating that they are able to keep root after OTA, so i am hoping to keep my root too after OTA.
please advise.
I have exactly the same problem. Cant do OTA and im states scared to update through PC companion since my friend bricked up the phone.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Are you running stock .423 odexed? I had this issue when I flashed a deodexed ROM then tried OTA update

Hi,
It is not possible to do a OTA Update after deleting one or more system apps (even stuff like partnerbookmarks).
There are, however, 2 ways to get the Update.
1.) Follow some of the instructions here like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287149
There are some other ways posted here at xda. They use the flashtool to flash current firmware.
2.) Use Sony PC Companion, this will work ALWAYS,but: Root will be gone. U can use Doomlords rooting method to get Root again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405
Good luck

PC Update will never fail, the only thing is that you lose root access, which can be easily recovered though.

Hi mate, dont panic. Just follow the instructions on how to flash a stock firmware with flashtool. This is already described here at xda, try searching for it. It will repair your phone but data may be lost.

What happens is that when I tried to go into the External SD directory it will appear to be empty even thou that's not the case
I mean flash it with flashtool. For this you don't need ext sd card
You know how to do this?

[Q] Restore original Sony firmware using Linux tools

I am now sick and tired having my Z bricked with CM, I want to go back to the original Sony firmware.
The problem is, I do not use and do not have "MS Windows" any longer. So, SUS and Emma is not an option for me.
But I do have the Android SDK and I read flashtool is available for Linux.
So, how can I restore the original Sony firmware using Linux tools? And where can I get the original firmware?
Does Sony offer it via download? Or only via its apps like SUS?
Can I restore the original ROM just with the Android SDK?
Thank you a lot!
Issue solved!
I formatted all partitions and put CM nightly on my Z. Now the IMEI is back!
Gosh, am I happy.

[Q] Bootloader, before rooting... [SOLVED.NEED TO LOCK THREAD]

Hi there, I'm new here. I'd like to ask anyone who know about blootloader. I have one issue with my phone. A few days ago, (more accurate - 1-2 weeks) I did rooting for my phone Xperia Z. Before that, I checked the configuration, and then I was allowed to unlock it. But now, (after rooting) i'm not able to do that anymore. How to understand that?
Before rooting was writting : „Allowed to unlock bootloader: Yes“
After : „No“.
What the hell happend ?
Does software update will solve this issue with my phone ?
What I shloud to do ?
I'm going to attach photo after rooting. I had contacted Sony HELP, but they said that I should search help anywhere else, 'cause they don't know anything about it or they can't say.
Maybe they can't answer 'cause I'm living in another country in which there's no Sony phone centre, only the main.
Any suggestions?
Did you root using this method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/root-xperia-z-zl-tablet-z-lb-ub-t2186368?
If so, you will see this written in the first post -
if u had an unlockable bootloader device, after using this method the device will be detected as LOCKED or unlock not possible!!! (to fix this use this fix)

Also, Sony support will not help with problems caused by you unofficially modifying the software on your phone, no matter where you live.

I did with this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsh51O1ImMM
I used fast rooting or whatever is it
How I need to flash it ? I'm newbie at Android. :/
Do I need just replace that file with Root Explorer to it's file original destination? Thanks for reply.
EDIT: By the way, do I need upload META-IN folder too? :?
-- Sorry If I'm writting bad in English --
The method in that video is indeed the method that I linked to. You need to flash the file in recovery.
Try XZDualRecovery If you need a recovery. It should work, but I cannot be 100% on that as it seems you're on quite an old 4.1 firmware version.

I have that recovery already. It's needed to have SD card? Can I flash it though the phone memory ? Yes, I've 4.1.2 version. Awaiting for KitKat. Is there's any possibility to brick the phone? 'Cause I'm scared to try that then if so.
Yes, just put it on your internal SD. You will not brick your phone by flashing that file.

So, to be clear...
You downloaded the file from this post, rebooted into recovery, selected it and tried to flash it? If so, I have no idea why it would freeze up.

[Q] XZ Re-lock Bootloader without TA

Hi.
I was running AOSP but I just wanted to go back to stock, so I followed a tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/help/guide-how-to-revert-phone-cm-aosp-aokp-t2458530).
I'm currently on DoomKernel v18, Android 4.2.2 (10.3.1.A.2.67).
My bootloader is unlocked but I do not have backup of TA partition, is it still possible to re-lock bootloader?
Yes. Flash a stock kernel then use the BLU mode of Flashtool to relock the bootloader.

Would the C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Generic ES.ftf work?
and if it does i can update OTA after re-locking bootloader?
Yes, as the kernel is the same in all .67 roms. Just exclude everything but the kernel and don't wipe anything when flashing.
Edit - You should be able to update OTA, providing you haven't modified your software in any other way (deleting system apps, for example).

Okay, I noticed my wifi hadnt connected so i went into settings to turn it on. I press the little switch it goes blue then back to grey almost immediately, and then it says Turning on Wi-Fi but wont turn on. Bluetooth works fine and so does mobile data/service. not sure what happened but its a big issue as i only use wifi.
You shouldn't have any problems. I did exactly what I told you to my own phone with no issues.
Did you flash fota kernel from the FTF?
If you did, try flashing the FTF without wiping data. That will wipe /system and reflash it and should solve any problems. Note that you will lose root and any other system modifications if you do that.

rpm.sin

I'm not near my PC at the moment, so cannot check, but when you're choosing what to flash, there should be an option to exclude fota kernel. Don't select it.
If all else fails, just do what I suggested and that should fix your issue.

didnt really understand what you meant with the without wiping data thing, sorry.
There are check boxes that you select to wipe data and appslog. Make sure they're not checked and flash the whole FTF. That should fix the problem.
