I've got an unlocked Singapore i9000 with the European JG1 firmware installed and using it on AT&T in the US.
The phone frequently pops up an annoying message about "refreshing sim data". It pops up, then fades away on its own.
Other than the obvious, what does "refreshing sim data" mean, and why does it do it so often? This is the only phone I've owned that does that.
Any idea what's going on behind the scenes (either on the phone, or at AT&T) when the phone pops up that "refreshing sim data" message? What's refreshing on the sim or the phone, and why does it do it so often?
On an interesting related note. The sim I am using is from my iPhone account on AT&T and is grandfathered in with the true unlimited data plan. What's interesting is that usually when I put the sim into another phone, like say my old Razr, the AT&T website almost instantly reflects that I'm not on an iPhone with that sim at the moment; with the i9000, the sim's been in it non-stop for almost a month now, and AT&T still reports me as an iPhone.
get this too, what is this?
I'm still getting this...
No one has any ideas? I've noticed that AT&T Web site now reports the phone as "unknown" but they haven't monkeyed with my grandfathered unlimited iPhone data plan (yet).
I get this on my captivate too. It happens on both Perception and Assonance roms. The only other thing I can think is that I have an old Cingular 3G sim card so maybe that is acting funky with it.
Anyone figure anything out with this?
I'm starting to get this too ever since I installed the Pheonix Rom on my Captivate. Never had this problem before. It even sometimes cuts off service when that pop up shows up.
I just started to see this on the new Cognition 3.0.4 rom for the captivate also. Any ideas?
I'm seeing it on my Captivate with Perception 10.2... I also have the old unlimited AT&T iPhone data plan. When I log into AT&T, it shows I am using the Captivate.
One more here. Paragon RC5 didn't do it but RC6 does. Phone is a Captivate with an iPhone sim card and data plan.
I started seeing this to when i started using JS8(my own) and see it using Darkyy's JS8. I only see this when I have my usb unplugged.
Possible rom has wrong CSC for the network you are using .
I have a manually entered network as its not on any CSC sim pops up and i just choose O2 UK as its the carrier for the network i use .
Result no more pop up .
Or change CSC to cover your current network .

Hi.. I tried to select the network manually and the "Refreshing SIM Data" pop up stopped popping up.
I think as JJEgan said, it is the wrong CSC that is causing this pop up.
I have a locked SGS2 to 3 UK, which I unlocked and is using it in India with a different carrier.
You guys could try selecting the network manually. It may not be a problem if you are not travelling very often or going out to a different carrier circle.
sounds like a problem, ive seen on other phones, i got it too on my galaxy s when i first got it on stock rom was 2.1 update #1.
is there actually a option to show/hide sim service messages like some nokias have? this is only a suggestion/idea of-course not sure if the galaxy has this option
I have an unlocked galaxy s3 that I bought from the UK. it isn't rooted and uses the sim card from my rooted streak and, before that, from my FUSE. U.S. A&Tt. that's supposed to read AT&T. in this Galaxy, I run only the samsung stock upgrade (2.3). I have had this message from the first day I turned on the unit--approx every ten minutes all day long. if no one on the xda forums can solve this problem, then it's unsolvable.
Got internatial version of SGS2 and on AT&T, getting the annoying message from day one. After reading the article, I decided to choose network manually, but there wasn't any manual selection menu. So after network scanning, I saw two (strange?) AT&T network popping up and selected one of them and now the pop up is gone for now. I feel awesome with it gone.

I was mistaken. The message kept coming up. So tried to fix network to wcdma only and testing. No message pop up in 3 hours. Wish me good luck.

"Refreshing Sim Data" annoying pop ups in SGS 3
Hello all,
I just bought SGS 3, 2 days back. After 1 day of impressing me, it popped up this irritating msg "refreshing SIM data". After trying all the solutions which did not work in my case, found out a new solution.
Try this,
Settings → More settings → mobile networks → Network mode → (select) GSM only
In my phone GSM/WCDMA (auto mode was selected).
BINGO as soon i made this change, the pop-up stopped
Write to me if this helped you.
When on 3G , it need GSM/WCDMA , so its not a perfect solution ...
So, vinodbluey, if you're still around, did your fix work permanently for you?

I am using samsung S5222 mobile, a week back i buy a aircel sim after 2 days it started refreshing sim automatically.. so pls help me how stop this..
I think I have a very weird problem with my unlocked AT&T Galaxy Tab. I can send and receive message using my monthly data plan SIM card from AT&T. But the problem is I cannot use this SIM card to access to internet browsing. I tried to configure APN setting following some posts here and I found elsewhere, unfortunately they all didn't work for me. I use Canada Bell I9000 modem band and not sure if this is the reason. I rooted my AT&T Galaxy to unlocked European version.
Thank you
I have the same problem I'm in the US, and I put my att sim in my unlocked international G-Tab, and at first it worked fine but after a while it stopped. But what I don't understand is I can make calls and send text messages but no data. It is rooted using superoneclick I tried fooling with the APN settings as well but nothing.
Hmm maybe this is the problem I ran into as well. I have an AT&T Galaxy Tab, and I flashed it to Overcome, and also tried DXJPE. Using either of those, after adding the Broadband APN, it would work but then the data would randomly stop working.
In order to get it working again, I'd have to do one of: (1) reselect the APN (2) toggle airplane mode or (3) reboot. It didn't always seem consistent which one of those was necessary.
I tried numerous modems and never managed to resolve the issue.
I recently have been trying to return to stock to see if that would solve the issue, but it turns out once you've flashed off of AT&T stock, as far as I can tell you can never truly go back, since we don't have working bootloaders. I've managed to get it back to mostly stock, but with corrupted bootscreens and recovery, but apparently everything working once booted, and I haven't seen these problems with the APN since then. However, the problem was so random it's hard to know if it's gone for sure.
Does this sound like the same problem?
Hey all,
I'm using a Straight Talk sim with my N7000 and have noticed since starting to use JB roms that after a while, my cell signal will turn white and I won't be able to use data again until I reboot. Currently running jellycore, but the same thing happens with liquidsmooth.
What's strange as well is that my girlfriend's Hercules gs2 (unlocked with a ST att sim) does the same thing on ics, yet it never happened for me on rocket rom (or maybe I just never noticed it since the signal bars don't change colors on touchwiz).
Anyone have any clue what's causing this? Phone is deep sleeping just fine, not sure if that's relevant. I just flashed a gb radio to see if xxlrk was the cause (which, I would think, would also be affecting my gf).
Thoughts? Would love some help!
Apple innovates and Samsung copies, huh? Tell that to my galaxy note

Yeah, I've read that entire thread, and that seems to be people having trouble getting data/mms working for the first time. I've been using my ST sim for 6 months now with 4 different phones and this is the first time I'm having any issues staying connected. I use one APN (not 2 like suggested in the thread), no proxy, and only have a ST apn (no ATT pta apn's or lte apn's not being used, ST is the only one listed).
Hope this makes sense, any and all help is appreciated!
I am using a factory-unlocked Galaxy Note GT-N7000 that I bought in Lebanon (Middle East). All stock, upgraded to latest ICS from official release.
I was using an old SIM card until a month ago, when the company upgraded their SIM cards and asked me to change mine. Since then, sometimes I lose mobile data connection (like in an elevator, or sometimes randomly) and it just won't get back on until I reboot the phone. Turning mobile data or wifi or airplane mode on/off does nothing. All through, wifi works just fine. I called the company and they said they couldn't find anything wrong, and they suggested I try a different phone, but I've had this phone for a year with no similar issues. It seems to me a SIM problem but thought I'd ask here if anyone has had a similar issue.
Here are phone details:
GT-N7000
Android 4.0.3
bb N7000XXLPT
Kernel 3.0.15-N7000JPLPD-CL643396
build IML74K.JPLPD
Phone was never rooted, otherwise working fine. Do you think the new SIM is somehow clashing with the software?
Thank you in advance.
I've recently bought an S3 GT-I9305 second hand. Everything works fine accept I can't get 4G. (my sim gets 4G in another phone).
The phone isn't stock - it's got CWM recovery (5.something) and Supreme Rom 5.0
I 've tried cautiously poking around in service mode (*#197328640#). What's most concerning is that the LTE debug screen shows all blank values. Does this mean that the LTE hardware is dead or is it worth me flashing a different ROM / MODEM?
Thanks in advance.
