Hello world!
I like the fact that this device will be "waterproof", but a question that's popped up in my head recently is whether or not that applies when using wired headphones too. For example, say you're standing in the middle of the monsoon rains listening to music. Will the headphone "socket" be isolated well enough that the use of headphones is rendered safe & sound, or will we have to use Bluetooth for that purpose?
Hope I get my point across, as I don't really know how to ask this in a decent fashion. :victory:

Good question! But I don't know the answer maybe mail Sony

Unless the bundled headphones are water proof, I wouldn't do that. I think the headphone jack should go so easily, the headphone itself will be ruined.
Once I was washing hands while I was listening to music, and I touched the cable and it went right on the running water. The right ear stopped working. Luckily I was at home and used the hair dryer on the headphone. It isn't still that good (left ear is louder and play more frequencies), but it have to last until I get new headphones.

No, opening the port flap to the headphone jack invalidates the water resistance. As it's been said before, your headphones probably wouldn't survive much water either.

Xperia Z may be a advertised water resistant phone but when any of it's port covers are open it's the most prone to stationary water.
If you plug in your headphones indoors than it'll be ok , just don't do this under the rain

it is risky
i think it will not be "waterproof" any more,
it will be at most "water resistant"
sony xperia z handset's various ports, including the one for its headphones, all feature protective plastic covers that must be unclipped before they can be accessed. - so dont even try ur phone with headset in rain, rather attending a calls and reading messages with ports closed.
source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...-CES-2013-The-phone-use-bath-drop-toilet.html
So, the general guess is that it:
loses its waterproofness if I plug in the headphones mid-rain?
...and...
is water-resistant as long as I plug in the headphones when it's not raining?*
* Read: meaning that it won't take damage from getting a drop or two onto the output jack when something is connected
Mail sony and who knows you might even get an interesting reply from them - and can share it to earn brief fame among tech blogs
But u still can buy Sony's waterproof headphones, which cost £60 and go on sale next month
And take a shower safely while listening some music

i think you guys are confused about waterproof and water resistance.
heres an article http://boyslife.org/outdoors/askgearguy/9135/waterproof-or-water-resistant/
mainly the xperia z is not a gadget where you could operate under water. thats why there are videos out there of xperia z when you pour water on it the screen starts to act up as if someone is pressing the buttons.
taking a phone to operate under water is a whole new level. there is a reason why sony states 1meter under water for maximum 30 mins. IP57 certified - dust and water resistant. technically speaking, its something for like when you accidentally dropped your phone into a bucket of water and quickly pick it up or talk under the rain should be fine since the screen is off when youre in a phone call.
A lot of ‘waterproof’ electronics are IPX7, which means that they will be OK if you accidentally drop them in a stream and get them out immediately.

if the 35mm jack hole is water proof then theres no point for sony to design a cover on top of it.
haha would it work if sound was coming out of the speakers instead? haha...
underwater that is...

Any specific reason for it doing so? I've read that it has something to do with it being capacitive, but not completely sure what that actually means in this context.

This is generally the case with all capacitive touchscreens.
Capacitive touch screens work by using a thin grid of conductive materials on the screen to sense touches from conductive materials, like your finger. Water, obviously being highly conductive, messes it up quite badly.
This is why you generally can't use any capacitive touchscreen when it's wet; even a drop will usually make the screen freak out and sense touches that aren't being made.
I heard that the XZ has some tech that helps it sense fingers over drops of water (ie, just taken out of water), but it's probably not smart enough to handle being completely submerged. That would be my guess.

Completely right.
Over all taking pictures under water will be great option with this phone,
But I'm interested what if water finds a way into the device will the guaranty be void then?

Probably, yes, as you'd have to prove the you had put on all the lids and things like that.
why there's no one think this way!!
get a bluetooth waterproof headset and you can listening your music under the rain (even without using umbrella)..
How waterproof is the phone?
Can the touch screen be used underwater?
I know it can be used right after taking it out of water, but what about under the water?
Also can buttons be pressed in the water?
If not, will the phone be damaged if a water drop falls into the button space when pressed?

As long as all the flaps (USB/audio jack/SIM/microSD) are closed the phone is completely waterproof. It can withstand up to 30 minutes at 1m depth and water jets (shower/rain/...).
The touchscreen cannot be used under water, this is impossible with capacitive touchscreens.
All buttons can be used under water.

Actually I think screens are OK when fully immersed. It's when they have drops of water all over they have problems. This may vary depending on the touch panel in use but it's not impossible.
M.
I saw some info "forgot where I found it" that the touchscreen of the Xperia Z/ZL supports pressure detection so if this is the case it might be possible to use it underwater. Will post the link soon when I find it.

Capacitive screens use conduction for sensing the touches so not sure about this.

Just wondering what's Throw?
The pressure sensor is not in the display but an actual air pressure sensor. Can be used to calculate at what height above sea level you are.
Capacitive displays work with electrical charges. There run tiny tiny wires over the display that detect when they are interconnected, which happens when you touch them. The problem is that when you use it when it is completely immersed, everything appears to be connected to everything. With drops of water it's possible to filter them out somehow (I don't know the details on this), but while fully immersed it's impossible to distinguish between what parts are being touched by water and what parts by skin accurately enough to provide touch input.
Throw is one of the marketing terms for Sony's DLNA stuff. You can "throw" images and video's to your TV and other devices over DLNA.

Ok... And I thought it was a pressure sensor on the screen I was planning on porting the python mypaint would have been great if the phone has pressure sensitivity.

Actually, pressure sensitivity on tablets and phablets (like the Galaxy Note series) is done with pressure sensors in the pen, not in the display. The display has some sort of electromagnetic resonance that (through induction) powers the pen and allows the pen to transmit back what amount of pressure is being applied.
One of the other ways that allows (limited) pressure sensitivity is by using a resistive display, and that isn't possible with a glass display surface. In addition to that, it is quite crappy.
I saw a video on youtube ( Can't remember by who, maybe Clove?) where they submerged the phone under water and the guy tried taking photos with the camera, the touch doesn't work at all under water. Makes sense with the explanations above, phone is meant to survive if it takes a dunk really
I am planning to buy xperia Z ...Doing some research I found out these problems
1. Display having bad viewing angles
2. Back panel pop out if device heated
3. Not completely water resistance
Should I buy ZR or Galaxy S 4 if not need water resistance
1. Do you watch content on your couch seating with your whole family? Or do you use the phone like a normal person, holding it straight to your face, that is.
2. Latest updates have better control of the throttling of the device, keeping it at right temperatures most of the time.
3. People is dumb, they take the device for a swim, rapids, the beach and whatnot when the manual specifically says no swimming, no diving, no salt water, etc. The device resists spills and occasional accidents related to water.
4. If you value battery life, ZR is the better choice. It has almost twice the battery performance than the Z. Plus it has better water resistance rating, at the cost of smaller screen and lower (unnoticeable) resolution.

1. NO ..I Dont watch anything with my family ..I have an iPad for that
2. So that problem is resolved ???
3. I want only water resistance like rain or accidental spills of water
4. How ZR looks ..Plastic body is making me resist it .. same goes for S4
1. Then you don't need extreme viewing angles, do you?
2. Yeah, I guess, unless you live in the desert.
3. It does the job.
4. Honami?

Hi everyone
I am in Egypt on vacation.
Does anyone know the way to record and take pictures underwater?
Because water works on the screen (automatically zooms in and out) and you can practically not use it under water
Does anyone know if I can take out S-Pen underwater?

Watch this guy he teaches you how to lock the screen so that water doesn't mess with it
Also this guy shows that the s pen can be used underwater
Though i do not recommend that u use it under seawater... Swimming pools are ok tho
U might wanna consider putting it in a transparent plastic bag if u wish to take it deeper as it will continue to record through the transparent bag
I'm from Egypt and i welcome you to Egypt ??
Use a condom lol ?
While the Note 8 is water resistant to a certain depth. It is not recommended to keep it submerged for long periods of time. You can map one of the volume keys to act as a camera shutter button.
5 feet for up to 30 minutes. Use the volume control +/- buttons to snap and burst shot your pics.

No. The Note8 series was never meant to be waterproof like the S8 phones. Rain-proof, yes. However, it isn't rated for immersion in water. You have a better chance with a sealed zip-lock bag when you remove the S-Pen beforehand
Hello friends, today I have accidentally found new method to view camscreen or anyother application while unfolded state by using a simple magnet (Car mobile holder) placed on the rear side of the mobile.
It will be useful to capture high resolution Selfies using rear cameras just like Huawei Mate Xs, Nubia Z20 and Vivo duex screen models.
Now, we have to find a way to trigger Magentic (Hall) sensor by using Tasker or adb methods without using magnet ? on the back.
a quick question about this,
does this damage anything in any way? or is it "just a magnet" magical thing?
this would be great to use, but also annoying to carrying a magnet around everywhere. lol
Its just the magnet thing. no damage to the mobile on long term use i guess. Be careful not to scratch the outer screen while using the magnet. This is temp. hack. May be in future, mod developers can provide some hack/app to trigger this without using any magnet.
Hello!
Do you know any software based solution for this?
I want to charge the buds while using the front screen unfolded
My latest update has switch to do this on camera app
Yes, for camera it's true, but I would like to use the cover screen while the phone is opened. Anyone on XDA knows a patch/hack by any chance?
What do you mean?
