I've heard that a few people have had issues with the charging port coming out completely, how wide spread is this on the z3c?
I have a New Magnector X2 charging adapter and ive tried it once, but then heard about these issues so have decided to hold off.

I have the same x2 mag fine here no problems just be gentle.
I was using both the adapter and the cable from magnector and my Z3C is currently at the sony repair center b/c the port not only became loose but then came out
Wow really? I am planning to buy one of those magnector charger as well before i stumbled upon this. Can anyone provide pictures of the port coming loose? I tried messing with mine gently and it seems... well strong enough but i haven't use it yet.

Yeah I would also love feedback on this. I was looking at the Sony Dock or the Magnector X2 thingy for my teenage sons new Z3C, as we thought the constant opening and closing of the charging port would eventually weaken.
Also hearing horror stories of Sony not covering this damage under warranty?

yeah and ive read sony are being dicks about repairing and charging people a fortune...

Hello!
True story: while listening to music through my headphones I was looking at the headphonejack cover (which makes it waterproof) and wondering that it is, compared to my old Moto Defy, quite fragile.
2 seconds later I drop the freaking thing and it hits right the ground right on the cover and it breaks in half...
Anyways I have found spare parts here:
http://stellatech.com/sony-lt25i-xperia-v-audio-stecker-cover-(schwarz),a,de,814797.html
I come from germany, so this would be no problem, however I wonder how do i insert the retaining mechanism without opening the xperia? I dont want to void the warranty completely!
And yes, the cover is important to me, I need it to be waterproof!
Thanks for your advice and experience!
Dan
I just want to thank you for the link. My USB cover is broken after 4 months only. Seems on the long run a shocking expensive OEM dock is cheaper than replacing these.
you are welcome.
I think the USB-Cover will be next...especially since I need to charge it quite often. With my DEFY the covers held the whole 3 years of intense usage...
OT: which dockingstation do you use for the V!? the only one i can find with different plugs than the micro USB is for the Z!?

Sony DK25. Look on Ebay. Haven't bought it yet. The price is so scary.
I am using a Chinese type that is meant for the Z, modded, but this is not good I don't recommend it.

well...I think a dock is very impractical anyways. i think this is a perfect time for building something ourselves. Isnt it just a 2 pole magnet plug, to 5V usb!?
Are there any technical specifications avaiable? I would find a plug much more practical than a docking station!

If I have the part there are plenty small handphone workshops here who can do that for a few $. Sorry I also don't know what you want to know.
With a smart design it would be just squeezing the part into some hole for self installation, and Sony would sell these caps in packs of 3 for $ 9.95.

Old thread I know.. but my audio flex cable broke and ordered mine here just now. Much appreciated.
Some people have mentionned that attaching the magnetic charger the wrong way could have an ill effect on the phone. Is there any validity to this or is it just people spreading unbased rumors?
The pin holes are different shapes so that you can only properly connect it right side up, but some 3rd party chargers (including mine - the led charger) have the metal pins sticking out slightly beyond the safety holes, so the pins could make contact if I attach it wrong.
From a physics point of view, how is it any different from plugging in a plug into a wall outlet where the orientation of the plug is irrelevent?
it'll make your phone go BOOM, don't do it.

Riight, thanks
I'm a little worried about this though.. I could see myself accidently plugging it in wrong. I have the black version of the phone which looks very similar front and back, I feel like it's just a matter of time before I mess up :\ Maybe I'll try to trim the charer pins a bit with a diamond dremel bit..
It just shuts my phone down when I put it the wrong way. Works fine after turning back on.
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
I have the Magnector X charger and the pins are not sticking out. They are slightly below the plastic casing.
I put my Z1 the wrong way in my Brodit car holder (very good phone mount/holder by the way) and it just rebooted. It was no problem then
I also think there is no difference. I don't see any real facts about downside.
Haven't done anything bad with my phone it still charge as good, don't think it would matter at all

Good to hear! Still don't feel like purposely testing it though.
Yes I do.
I am considering buying an Xperia X because of the Wet finger tracking. My current Samsung doesn't support that, and since I do a bit of lobster and crab fishing, and I use an app (Fishing Points) to note what I get and where I put the pots, I am rather annoied with the Samsung since any drop of water on it will mess up my usage. And trying to dry out a phone in a small boat is kind of annoying. But then I see that the X doesn't support Qi wireless charging, and I have that in my home office, my car, on my motorcycle and next to my bed. Going back to where I have to actually plug in a cable seems so incredibly stone age. So are there any solutions for Qi compatible wireless charging that works on this, and that doesn't compromise waterproofing?

Yes, add a USB receiver.
Thanks, I see that you have that phone! You mean with the flat cable going into the battery bay? I did look into that, but found that it will compromise the waterproof seal. Or is there a way to do it that doesn't?

It's a receiver that connects through the USB port of the phone, it do e's not affect any waterproof seal, although you probably need to dry the usb port before charging, this is the same with all phone if it just came out of water.
Thanks! But do you mean that I have to plug that in every time I need to charge the phone and then put it in the Qi charger, or that it's stuck to the outside of the phone? In the first case it's really just another way of plugging in a regular charger...

Go to ebay and search for qi receiver, there are many available, although depending which one you get will vary in quality.
Yeah, I've seen those. I'm afraid they will be ripped off in my pocket, I think. So maybe the best bet is two phones and a twin SIM, so I have one for regular use and one for fishing. Or wait until spring and see if Sony gets their act together and actually deliver an expensive phone with the most common wireless charging option.
Just use a case with the receiver, sony knows about qi, they have a offcial qi case for the Z5, but decided not to use qi, and opt for fast charging instead.
Good point, a thin case with the receiver inside would probably be a good solution! Thanks! And Sony didn't think that one through. It makes it less likely that Samsung people, who often have a bunch of QI stuff from their phones, will convert. Fast charging is OK, but I prefer to put the phone into the car holder or on the bedside table and start charging without having to plug anything.
This one could be the right type:

nillkin has the best receiver so far if you are in for a USB receiver, unlike the one's sold on ebay, they just use a thin sticker with the circuit in between, the nillkin uses thin plasic, and is very stable, I have the nillkin one for my XP and V20. USB is availabl;e in two version, A and B.
The offcial sony one is pretty thick, not worth buying, but that is for the Z5 only.
Thanks! I'll get that when I change phone, then. But the picture is of a case I can use on the phone, not a receiver.
In case anybody else wants to try this, it works. But not with the pictured case, that creates pressure on the back of the phone which gives color blotches on the screen. So I found my solution in a so called "Slim Rubber Gel Case Cover" and the Nillkin receiver. Problem solved, and it works quite nicely. I rarely need to to connect my phone with the USB, but it's quite easy to pop off the case and remove the receiver.
Hey guys,
i have a little issue with a ~3 years old m7 that my grandma used (got replaced with a new one at that time cuz of pink camera issue). Two weeks ago it was charging overnight on a charger while being low on battery, than the main fuse in the house broke and naturally the charger was stinking of burnt. She than still used it afterwards until the m7 turned off ( i assume the battery was empty at that point). Than my dad tried to charge it up with his charger at which point the red led came on and charged for a few minutes and than turned off, the phone wouldnt turn on and w/e charger/cable (that are known working) he tried, the m7 wouldnt charge. After approx. 1 week i got to the phone, tried all the possible Button combinations (before connecting it to the power) but nothing happened. As a last resort i connected it to an Aukey 70w charger with AI Power and QC3 support, to my astonishment the red led turned on, the display turned on and it showed the "new battery charging screen" for about a minute or so. After that i just moved it from one spot to another and it suddenly turned off again (so i thought, that maybe the connection on the usb port is bad), so i reattached the cable and the red led came on again for about a second and turned off again. After that whatever i tried (different cables, chargers, warming the phone on the heater, cooling it in the fridge, again button combos) nothing happened.
Interestingly enough i have a few chargers that emit feeping sound (since they were new), the sound differes if they are just plugged into the wall socket or if they are plugged in and a (known working) device (like my phone) is charging. If i connect the m7 to those chargers they change the feeping sound same as when i connect a working device.
Im not particularly keen on opening the device up, but does anyone have an idea what could be the reason. I even tried readjusting the "USB charging plate" with a thin needle, as well as scrubbing the contacts a bit with the needle, naturally to no avail...
Thanks for ideas.
PS the phone was S-on, but unlocked and running 4.4.4 stock rooted android, if i remember correctly.
I sugest you to order new charging port (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...0.H0.Xone+m7+mi.TRS0&_nkw=one+m7+mic&_sacat=0). It's only few bucks and worth to try.
I had charging problem cos the port was not so tight anymore- it did charge only when I set some suppurt to the cable.
When the microphone died, I ordered the plate, Swaping it was super easy and after that everything works perfectly!

Thanks for the fast reply. Im not rly sure its the port as it appears to charge (judging) by the fact t hat those chargers change their feeping.
alternatively fo you have a decent teardown video/manual/tutorial how to open it?

Yeah found that one myself too. Does it really go so easy? He basically just uses the metal pry tool to cut between the plastic of the back and the front. Is no heating necessary? How to close it than?

He din't cut it apart, there are thiese pins that hold it together.
No heatin needed.
After that jou just push it back together.
Ofcourse you have to bee careful, not to rush.

When I plug my phone to charge, usb-c port feels loose, it moves up and down, doesnt wiggle to sides, chrarges with no problem, but the movement exists - is it normal and I'm being paranoic or it souldnt have a movement?
Thanks!

I have three Note 9s. A T-Mo 128GB, a U1 512GB, and a brand new ATT 512GB. All three have some wiggle in the port. It's normal.
I got a feeling its the cable ....
I'm not using the original cable that came with the phone but instead am using Type-C cables (one at office, one at home, one in my bag with portable powerbank) from my previous phone ...
Most are tight and one have a slight wiggle to it ...
