Phone: CDMA Hero
ROM: fresh2.0d
When I installed fresh2.0d rom, I thought it had built in a2sd which I confirmed later by listing apps in /system/sd/app folder. Now my confusion is every time I install an app, I see internal memory size decrease!!!
Is this how it should work? Am I getting my concepts wrong? If it's a problem, is there a fix?

Some things will write information out to dalvik-cache. By default its on the phone. I went from ~50MB - 130MB after moving dalvik. My new a2sd script will move it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667011 but I have only written it for damagecontrol so far.
Also some apps will write to /data/data/ (google earth put 25mb here) this cannot be moved to SD because of upgrade issues.,

Thanks Treve! Can I remove the file in /data/data/ with command line or will it disrupt anything? Also, are there other places that I can go and delete cache manually?

Cool! I will check it out! Thanks again!
Hello my fellow Android crack flashers! So Volk and I have wrote(him) and tested(me) his g2x nullifier for our phones. Well it works flawlessly! Which his thread is here. So with our learning adventures he has helped me port it to the O2x. So here is the run down. This was originally created as the g2xscrubber was insufficient enough for our flashberry addiction, and on top of that if wouldn't wipe our /cache either.
So the domino effect has begun. This is a simple script that will wipe your internal partitions cleaner then a whistle and get it dam near like new status, perfectly ready for a ROM. Like as if you just purchased it and didnt have any data on it nor a ROM and needed to be flashed. And yes it came all tricked out like that with CWM and all.. haha
So here it is...
The O2x Nullifier
This uses a special command in combination with a special file to overwrite the internal partitions with 0's, hence "Null" for 0 and "-ifier" for the fact that it does something. It also formats the partitions afterward, including /cache too! Enjoy!
Some brief need to knows:
1. This is a little lengthy process so please bear with it. The longest wipe is on /data which will take about 7 minutes. Obviously, make sure you have plenty of battery life before running it. I've ran this Nullifier like 20 times in the last two days of first testing and on average its about 1204 seconds or about 19.8 minutes, on average. The Single pass zip is only half of the time of course. Or you can just watch the progress bar. After 20 times of nullifing and log pulling in 2 days, im pretty dang sure the bar is accurate. So enjoy!
2. ONCE THE NULLIFICATION PROCESS HAS BEEN COMPLETED DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TURN OFF OR LET YOUR PHONE DIE BEFORE FLASHING A ROM OR RESTORING... or you will brick your phone.
3. I will provide help, support, etc. for this, but as always flash at your own risk and I am not responsible if you turn your phone into your next non-aerodynamic frisby.
Enjoy!
Also I have now decided to copy the log to sdcard at completion (thanks to DARKSIDE for the idea). But from now on the log created in /tmp while in cwm is now copied to sdcard as O2x-Nullified-recovery.log. So it will still be deleted from RAM but never lost any more!!!!! muhahahahahahah... love it!
Thanks go to Волк aka Volk for letting me test and learn from his G2x Nullifier script. And also to owain94 for helping me make sure that this thing will run ok on the O2x, since I dont actually have the O2x..
Also if is doesn't work, please we need logs. You need to use a file explorer or put the external sdcard into your pc and grab and upload or pm me the log from your sdcard the file will be named 'O2x-Nullified-recovery.log'
mini change log:
1.2 -> fixed sleep command, 1.2
1.3 -> updated binary script and added /cache info per vadonka's advice
1.3.1 -> Bad zip... reupped
1.3.2 -> zipped with 7zip should work now.. dumb winzip... reupped
skipped to 1.5 -> updated script and binary. Also removed /cache format command; instead do a manual wipe for now
skipped to 2.0 -> updated script and binary again. Manual format still.
2.1 -> No more manual /cache wipe and working progress bar!
2.2 -> Single/Dual pass zip options. Thanks to Volk for error check and darkside for log creation idea. Added support for su660
nice work mate!
Ok so i'm hijacking this post to use while i'm at work (with crappy lowest bid PC) and using this FOR MY TEST UPLOADS ONLY. THIS WILL CONSIST OF G2X TESTS GETTING READY FOR THE O2X... DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY ATTACHMENT ON THIS POST OR ATTEMPT TO FLASH IT BECAUSE IT WONT WORK FOR YOU UNLESS YOU HAVE A G2X!
Thanks a lot mate

Why not just use the nvflash based v10b flashing released by Paul on modaco. I use that when I really want to clean everything up. Since it is V10b, easy to install CWM recovery using psneuter (thought it is not required) and can be done with a simple dd command directly.

Well really thats kind of a longer process.. thats a rom, this is just a tool to wipe clean your internal storage. Basically take it back to like new status, but still having full root ability. CWM will flash the rom of your choice after your done with the nullification process and manual /cache wipe. This will not take you back to a predetermined state (in terms of a rom), it will leave your phone a nice paper weight however until you decide to flash a rom.
nice work!
i have a little advice for you. use this method for the cache wipe and no need to manual wipe cache anymore
unmount("/cache");
run_program("/sbin/mke2fs", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2");
run_program("/sbin/tune2fs", "-O", "extents,uninit_bg,dir_index,has_journal", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2");
run_program("/sbin/e2fsck", "-fy", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2");
run_program("/sbin/tune2fs", "-o", "journal_data_writeback", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2");
run_program("/sbin/e2fsck", "-fy", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2");
this create an ext4 partition, if you want ext3 just skip the first tune2fs row, and use the -j option in the mke2fs.
mke2fs recreate a new empty partition no need to fill with zeroes before, so the nullifying parts is unneded, just use the mke2fs. its enough, except if you want to wipe the data for reason.

OP updated
In my recent post, I posted SNS Integration that I deodexed it myself, but recently I got some trouble,
because it drain my internal storage (About 15MB space) and I've been thinking how to solve it.
This guide is for those who use Link2SD, because Link2SD cannot move data into sdcard second partition.
When you see SNS in system apps via Link2SD, the data files consume up to 15MB,
because I sync my twitter and facebook to my contact, and this cause a problem for me,
because It consumes internal storage.

This is how I do it :
Warning!
If you want to link data files manually, the EASIEST way is NOT to link any lib files with Link2SD. Leave it unlinked, so you can easily link the ENTIRE data folder.

First, you must have link2sd, so that you have sdext2 folder in your /data/ , like this :
Then open your Root Explorer.
You will see your root directory like this :
Then tap the data folder :
After that, scroll down until you see data folder in your data folder (Dataception)
Then tap it.
Now it should shows all your app data in folder like this :
Now choose the App Data Folder that we want to link,
in this case I use com.sec.android.app.sns (SNSProvider that I deodexed in my previous post)
Then long press the folder, and it should show dialog box like this, select Copy.
After that, go back to data folder, and locate your sdext2 folder
Tap sdext2 folder, and locate data folder in it.
Then tap it, and tap Paste.
Then scroll down and see your com.sec.android.app.sns in it, then long press it.
The dialog box should show up, scroll down and select Link to this folder.
After that, back to /data folder
Then tap data folder in data folder again to enter it. After that, scroll down to see com.sec.android.app.sns folder, we are going to delete it.
Long press the folder, the dialog box should show up, tap delete, tap yes.
Then tap create link, and voila! your com.sec.android.app.sns folder is linked to your SDCard second partition!
It should look like this :

Thanks to MNgez question, I was able to try this way on dalvik cache files, That Link2SD don't link if we don't link our application with it, like dalvik cache files for system app.
So yesterday I experimented it again, and it works! Just do the same way for data files, what differs is we link the dalvik cache file, not data folder. If it succeed, Link2SD also recognize our manual dalvik cache link like this :
Open your Root Explorer. Then navigate to /data/dalvik-cache like this, and you will see dalvik cache files :
Then scroll down to see the dalvik cache file that we want to link,
In this case I'll link PhoneSky (Google Play Store) so we search for the file that has phonesky in it.
Then long press the [email protected]@[email protected], the dialog box should shows up, select Move.
Navigate back to /data, then tap sdext2
Scroll down, until you see dalvik-cache folder, tap it.
You should see dalvik-cache files in it, then just tap paste.
Then scroll down until you see your newly dalvik cache file, Long press in it
The Dialog box should shows up, scroll down and tap Link to this file.
Go back to /data folder, navigate into dalvik-cache folder and tap it.
After you're in /data/dalvik-cache folder, tap Create Link
If it succeed, it should look like this :
Voila! Your dalvik cache file has been linked to your SDCard second partition, and Link2SD recognize your manual link! Enjoy!

Yes, because as far as I know there's only a2sd from darktremor that can move app data to SDCard second partition,
so I've been searching for a way to link app data myself with Root Explorer.
If you use link2SD, you can just link application files, it will link dalvik cache too by default in your sdext2.
This will work, because Link2SD support Stock ROM and you will need root permission for Root Explorer.
With Link2SD -> you can link apk, dalvik cache, lib files but NOT data files, so I post these.

I'm multibooting FroyoPro2.5 with alfsV8a-GDX kernel.. I think stock kernel is easier to setup..
Anyway, THIS is the file you need.. When it is extracted during the install it will make a 512MB data file for the sdcard install.. You'll be able to fill this with your apps etc.. You'll need at least a class 6 sdcard for this to work well.
Just follow the instructions carefully and you should be fine..
