I am currently at the following on my Sprint HTC M7:
Bad Boyz Stock rooted Odex Android 4.4.2 Sense 5.5
S-Off
Twrp 2.8.5
hboot 1.44.0000
firmware? 4.06.651.4 CL303687 release-keys
I want to move up to 5.0.2 but believe I need to update my firmware before I load the Bad Boyz 5.0.2 rom. I know that the latest firmware is not included in the rom as it must be flashed via fastboot. ( or am I incorrect? )
I found the thread with the new firmware as well as the new firmware modified to not have recovery, boot etc.
Here is the extracted 6.16.651.2 Firmware:
Full Firmware from OTA (fastboot flashable): https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934523626
Modified Firmware....removed recovery (fastboot flashable): https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934523627
Modified Firmware....removed recovery & boot (fastboot flashable): https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934526577
Modified Firmware, radio only (fastboot flashable): https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934523666
Modified Hboot from 6.16.651.2 firmware (removes red text): http://forum.xda-developers.com/spri...creen-t2853966
My first question is can I use the modified firmware with the recovery removed since I am already running twrp.?
If I use this one I assume it will update my hboot to the latest version, so the next question will I lose my S-OFF when it updates my hboot?
Will I lose my root when I move up to the newer firmware?
I have been away from flashing and manual updates to my phone for sometime and want to verify my understanding before I brick my daily runner.
Thanks

no you won't lose your s-off, no you won't lose your root, just flash the modified firmware with recovery and boot'img removed and you'll be fine.
you have to flash it in fastboot.

Isn't the boot the same as the hboot version? I thought I needed to update the hboot as well as the firmware? I might have some items confused. Thanks for your assistance in bringing me up to date.

Thanks for clarifying that. Its been too long since I was changing roms and kernels often. I need to spend more time this week reading the latest posts and bringing myself back to an understanding.

I googled it, it looks like a flashable rom via Recovery, but i will look into it after the download ended...
Because i never heard of it...
Try flashing it direct via recovery, the homepage says:
I have started to construct some stock ROM zip files that can be flashed in recovery (CWM/TWRP) to install the HTC One stock ROM for many different versions of the phone. You can also choose to install the stock Radio and also the stock Recovery. The part about the stock recovery is important, because if you want to get OTA updates you will need the stock recovery.
Remember in order to be able to flash a recovery (stock or otherwise) your bootloader needs to be unlocked. So if you want to flash the stock recovery during the install you will need to make sure to have a unlocked bootloader.

Flash Guru Reset using recovery (like any custom ROM). If you then want to receive & install OTA, you have to select Stock Recovery in the installer (note: this may wipe your internal storage!), then you should be able to receive and install the OTA.
Just curious, but why don't you get S-Off using rumrunner, then you can flash firmware (includes hboot) without having to use reset to stock.

for OTA you need stock rom and stock recovery (ie Guru Reset, and select stock recovery)
but for rumrunner, no need for stock recovery, just a matching ROM and firmware (ie Guru Reset 2.24.401.1 RUM you are using) and check bootloader (or "fastboot getvar all") to confirm firmware is 2.24.401.1) then you can use rumrunner just fine.
right now i am using VIPERONE 3.1 RC2 but my bootloader showing that my firmware is 2.24.401.1
whice firmware should i download to do s-off with rumrunner?

you're good :good:
1- make a nandroid of your current setup, so you can restore later.
2- flash Guru Reset 2.24.401.1
------ select WIPE
------ unselect stock recovery (otherwise there's a high probability internal storage will be fully wiped)
------ radio also not needed
3- use http://rumrunner.us/ to get s-off using the 2.24.401.1 package
4- restore your nandroid
5- flash latest firmware package (includes hboot), from here (in the firmware section): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506
(remember to follow the instruction, in particular you have to "fastboot flash zip <firmwarename>.zip TWICE!!)
NB: I would personally back up everything to my PC first (including the nandroid), just in case
Here's a walkthrough of Guru Reset installation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47085377&postcount=44
Solved here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51693017&postcount=14
I have this setup so far:
S-OFF Hboot 1.56 through Firewater.
Firmware 4.06.651.4
Unlocked bootloader, TWRP 2.7 and older versions I tried, as well as PhilzTouch (this one works better)
I can only recover from the brick by installing a rooted odex STOCK 4.06.651.4 ROM through PhilzTouch which let's me OTG, ADB sideload, and fastboot (TWRP only lets me adb sideload, but can't mount OTG or /data sometimes)
I think I need to install the stock ROM with a stock recovery in order to do it properly. Haven't tried yet, scared to mess up more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, I started off clean, unlocked bootlader, rooted , and flashed custom recovery with TWRP (root sometimes lost, have to flash SuperSU.zip manually sometimes).
Then I got S-OFF through Firewater.
Checked, and double checked MD5 matches, a good quality USB cable 2.0, different formatted clean PC and laptop to rule any of that out..
With a clean/nice ADB/fastboot connection, I proceeded to install ViperOne 5.8.0 | 4.19.401.11 | Android 4.4.2 Sense 5.5 through TWRP as per instructed in its official post (it redirects here from the HTC One Sprint thread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334294
It installs fine until the last Finish option to reboot into the first ROM boot up, and it never gets inside, it just bootloops the bootloader forever.
--------------------------------
Possible thought I still don't understand:
In the Viper ROM there seems to be a firmware version in the tittle: 4.19.401.11...
Does that version have anything to do with mine? Currently 4.06.651.4, with an annoying update prommpt to 4.06.651.9 that downloads, bu never installs (possibly need stock recovery for that)
Is Any ROM firmware specific in order to install? I read that the latest TWRP had issues so I tried many older version to no avail...
Do I need to go back to an earlier firmware, and then update to the latest with the radio as well?
What am I doing wrong?
I would suggest running the 4.06.651.4 RUU and starting fresh. I know it sucks but...
From there you can take the OTA if you want to...then you will be current.
Then you can unlock and flash recovery again.
Follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658910

Hey Guys,
Can I please get some help? I am S-off and I have flashed the 6.06 no red warning hboot, but I need to return the phone for a repair.
I flashed the 5.11.401.10 firmware from Mike1986's repository (only because I could find matching recovery and ROM for this firmware), but the red warning has not come back. Is this a problem? Is there another version of this firmware I can use that WILL bring back the red warning (ie. an unmodified hboot)?
I have read NEVER to lock/relock a modified hboot as it'll do some nasty things. I need to be 100% before I go any further. I have the matching 5.11 odexed rom and recovery from the same repository.
I'm assuming the process is:
1. fix the issue with the hboot
2. flash the stock ROM
3. lock bootloader using the easy aroma method.
4. flash stock recovery via adb.
I've been told that I could leave it s-off as it will likely go unnoticed if the bootloader is locked. is this true?
Any and all help is vastly appreciated.

If you flashed the firmware from mike1986's [PLACEHOLDER] HTC One firmware collection for different CID/MID then you have both the stock hboot and stock recovery. His firmware does not have modified hboots. I would do the following:
1. flash custom recovery
2. flash stock rom
3. lock bootloader and remove tampered if present
4. flash stock recovery
I would leave it S-OFF.

If you have a stock recovery you will not have the red warning, it will come back if you have a custom recovery and a stock hboot. Did you flash a custom recovery after you flashed the stock firmware? If you did, you should see the red come back if not you will not. It is only visible when you enter recovery.

Yes, just follow these steps:
1. flash custom recovery
2. flash stock rom
3. lock bootloader and remove tampered if present using this tool: guru-bootloader-reset
4. flash stock recovery
Today I unrooted my phone and relocked it so I could update my phone to 4.4.3 but every time I try to update it the phone will boot into fastboot mode and it reads "security warning" under where it says "Relocked". It does that every time I want to go to recovery.

You need a stock rom and stock recovery for the OTA to work.
I'm using both a stock rom and a stock recovery.
Why are you trying to boot into recovery if you have the stock recovery installed?

Might want to try installing the stock Android system recovery again (doesn't sound like you have a recovery installed at this point). Sounds like that's what your issue is. You can also use a RUU to get back to stock and then take the OTA update.
To run a RUU, would I need to unlock my bootloader again?

No.
Well, I tried to run RUU and FUU and both of them failed. I can't get passed step 1. Can I install a custom recovery and try again?
Make sure the firmware version of the RUU matches what you have installed. If you need a reference hit the second link in my sig and scroll down to the section regarding Hboot versions.

You need to reinstall the stock Android system recovery to take the OTA update. Also need to be on a relatively stock ROM to take the update.
How can i reinstall stock recovery rom. Is tbere any option to keep twrp and install new software version

I just got my sprint m8 hk edition 2 days ago, after which I htcdev unlocked, rooted, s-off'd(tried firewater got whelped) used sunshine successfully, flashed captain throwbacks latest twrp, then proceeded to debloat. After I got the notification for the 1.54.654.13 update I fastboot flashed back to stock hk recovery 1.54.654.9, and got that ota installed and only had to reroot was still s-off and unlocked. Fastboot flashed cap's twrp again, then I got the ota update for 1.54.654.15(didn't realize this thing needed so many updates, I now know I still have 2 or 3 more to go) So I flashed back to stock hk 1.54.654.13 recovery, tried installing 1.54.654.15 and it reboots and tries to install it makes it to about 25% then the pic of the phone gets a red triangle and I have to hold pwr and volume up to reboot. I've redownloaded and reflashed the stock hk 1.54.654.13 recovery multiple times as well as deleting the ota update and redownloading it 3 times to no avail same result every time. Soooo, my question is do I even need to update step by step? Or should I just download the latest firmware 2.16.654.4 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173 and install thru my pc. If so, I believe I need to relock my bootloader then ruu to 2.16.654.4. And last question, do I lose s-off by ruu'ing?

You do not lose S-OFF ever. Only way to go back to S-ON is by doing is manually.
I believe it was the first or second OTA but you had to be completely on the stock ROM (the OTA looked for certain .apks in folders and if you didn't have them [ie. you debloated] you can't OTA).
Since you're S-OFF just go flash the latest firmware (no need to relock and RUU).

You can get the firmware zip that doesn't have the new recovery so you don't have to reinstall recovery again either. If you don't have the H/K version it is this one you should download from OMJ's thread:

Not sure what to tell you about your Wi-Fi or SD card issue. Are you using a custom kernel? As far as the software version goes, that won't change by updating your firmware. That will only change by flashing a custom ROM. Software & firmware are not the same.

If you mean how to backup the stock recovery actually installed on your phone, you can't unless you have s-off and its not an easy task. You need to downgrade hboot to 1.44 so you can boot a custom recovery without flashing it (fastboot boot recovery.img) so you can pull the stock recovery from the mmcblk0p34 partition using "dd" commands using an adb shell from the booted custom recovery.
Easiest solution is to extract the stock recovery from the ota update zip file of the same version your phone is actually running.
Maybe your stock recovery version is already available, what version do you need?
