Sound lag on screen off on xperia z. - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, this is driving me crazy, for couple of months I'm experiencing this annoying problem with sound stuttering when screen is off and thus cpu frequency is reduced. This is mostly noticed on bluetooth headset, on cord headset its better, music still stutters but at least for a milisecond and not half of second or so as it was on bluetooth. The problem started some random day on 4.3, I upgraded to 4.4 hoping it will fix the problem but it didn't, due to a fact kitekat had some crazy restrictions now I have a root to give back list privileges.
Music is stored on sd card, i tried two different ones but that didnt help, the one i use now i 64gig kingstone class 10. The player of choice is poweramp with high priority and longest buffer enabled. This also isnt the case, tries some random players but it was the same.
I read something about changing the cpu frequency while the screen is off, i have tasker in which i could probably set a rule that would boost cpu while the screen is off and the music is playing or something but what frequency would be safe? Or perhaps there is a different sollution? I looked all over internet for a decent fix but couldnt find anything. Bottom line is, screen on = good playback, screen off = stutter randomly happens.

Hi
First i excuse for my poor english
I had this problem ago
This is because of your sony stock rom that can be laggy
I changed my rom to custom rom ( existenz 3.5.5 )
And everything is ok
Sony stock rom 4.4.4 lags is more than 4.4.2
I advice you to change your rom to a custumized tweakable custom rom

[Q] Audio playback clips

I am running vibranturk's port of ics 4.0.3 AOKP Build 23, and am having issues with paying music. First, the fact that the music apk fc's every time is a non issue as I am using winamp. Where the issue is is playing with the screen locked makes the music clip after about 30 seconds. I have disabled any dsp manager effects and it still does it. I have had success with turning off winamp's equalizer, but would really rather not (so sue me, I like good audio). For the moment I will live with the flat music, but would LOVE a solution to this which let's me use the equalizer.
My 2 cents: it seems like it is a memory issue as the clipping gets progressively worse and the bpm goes down as time goes on. This does not happen when the screen is on, making me think that the system is putting winamp on a lower priority memory class and is having its memory dumped sooner.

I believe you're on the right track. If I remember correctly, a lot (if not all) of the ICS roms drop the phone's processor to a low speed when the screen is off.
You may want to give the Icy Glitch kernel a spin - I use that one, and music playback hasn't been an issue when I've had the screen off.
Thanks for the tip! I was thinking of trying the icy glitch anyways, now it seems I have a good reason to .
I'll report back on my results.
WOO!
It worked!
Thanks!

Music skips in ICS

I saw similar threads like 2 years ago, but none of the solutions helped me so I decided to create new one.
Here is my situation.
When I play music (flac, mp3, ogg, whatever...) every some time (3,4,5 minutes) music stops for a fraction of a second.
Maybe it's nothing but it's irritating.
I eventually found what is responsible. Its GPS receiver. When I turn it off, everything is ok. I could live with that, but... I often listen to music, and use GPS at the same time so it would be nice to get it working together. Is there any chance to fight this issue?
my environment:
ROM: slimICS
Kernel: Devil (but also tried semaphore and mnics and that changed nothing).
Player: PoerAmp + VoodooSound (but also tried stock player, with and without voodoo and problem persists).
I also tried different governors: smartass, ondemand, conservative.
I tried to set Min CPU freq to 200 MHz. Still nothing.
Only solution is to turn off GPS.
What do you think?

GPS receiver by itself is an odd cause for music skipping. I think the problem is with a background app you are using (which probably relies on the GPS). I too use my phone on CM9 for music with poweramp, but rarely hear music stopping or skipping.
I've had this problem with CodenameAndroid
I'm not sure but it seems to only happen when my screen is off
possibly when the phone is trying to deep sleep
in my case it also happens when the screen is on, and I do not use deep idle.
I'll investigate it in detail. Will do new installation, so I will try to restore apps one by one. It can take a little time.
APP - power amp, has a setting to increase the Audio buffer size (settings>audio engine>audio buffer size). Change from Auto to Large(+250ms).. this fixed the problem for me.
Other music apps may have this option
dlockhart, I use poweramp, and changing buffer size didn't help.
I will investigate further. Clear rom, so far even with gps on everything is ok.
It's a longshot, but is this only when you have a jack plugged, or also when playing from the phone speaker? A faulty jack or it not being properly plugged has actually caused something similar for me.

anything new in here? just have the same problem, but different phone. should be an software issue.
Poweramp worked!

Yeah this worked for me too on Desire Z (I know, wrong forum but having identical issues on ICS). You can also disable the media controls on the headset that seem to mess it up too! No more skipping, thanks for the tip!
i'm having this problem right now
I had it to. Try jellybean. Because of vsync (project butter) the cpu and gpu animate the screen instead of just cpu, cpu now has more time to handle everything else. My music has yet to skip on jellybean. Working really good.
Is this Error in jelly bean as well ?

TX Walkman bug

I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing this, or there are several others, but the bug that I've been experiencing is really annoying.
Before people are redirecting me to another thread, no, my Walkman bug is not the sleep bug (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169867)
The bug has occurred back in ICS and it still exists in JB.
Walkman will suddenly stop playing music when browsing on the internet. The Walkman icon still displays on the top left corner. Accessing Walkman and un-pause the music is not a problem, but the general pattern is that it will restart the track from 0:00, or start at a different song from the one I was previously listening to.
I have done some troubleshooting and have eliminated several possibilities such as:
Q: Is it the browser that you're using?
A: No. I have tested this using Google Chrome and Opera, both will make the Walkman stop playing music.
Q: Too many songs?
A: Possibly the most stupidest though ever...I only uploaded 12 songs just to see if that would NOT trigger any problems. NOPE.
Q. Sony Smart Connect is the problem?
A: Nope. I have reverted back to an old version, and even uninstalled it. The bug continues to occur.
Q. Not Walkman app's fault?
A: I've downloaded PowerAMP Pro and there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO problems.
Q: Clear your memory? Restart your phone?
A: There is plenty of RAM, especially in JB. If Sony does not prioritize the Walkman app, then what's the point of this???? Restarting the phone and JUST opening Chrome and Walkman still reproduced that same bug.
Q: When does the Walkman bug NOT occur?
A: Standby mode is fine...I was even playing the music while using the "reddit is fun" app and browsing .gif images and so on, the bug does not occur.
What I haven't tried:
- Loading the songs onto the onboard phone memory rather than the microSD
- Trying a different microSD
- Reset the phone (something that I do not wish to do at the moment)
- ZeroInfinity's PureXAudio Sound Mod (that supposedly fixes stuff????????)
My Sony Walkman Z does not have this stupid bug. So basically, I'm stumped on how to fix this other than ignoring Walkman completely, or just listen to music but can't even multi-task or else this app will blow.
Suggestions? Fixes, anyone???
Make a backup and try those things you have not tried yet, especially the repair in pccompanion and the sound mod
If you have a backup you can always restore it back if it does not work.

Have you tried resetting the phone? Did this occur right out of the box when you first had it?
Same bug here. Sound disappears when browsing thru chrome. I thought this was the walk man bug? Different bug?

Ive had this bug in ICS.. reported on sony forums...was asked to repair phone.. but bug remained. Was using smart connect when it first occured, so tried without setting any event etc but it remained. Sony moderator was unable to replicate the issue and since then I've seen many posts popping up about the issue with no answer. I had my handset changed within 1st month and the same bug did occur on the 2nd one too.
Since JB haven't really tried the same scenario yet, so unable to comment.
Which is why I don't want to really reset my phone because I'm not the only one who has this issue. If I was the only one, maybe I did something wrong to the phone that I didn't know about...
I will try the sound mod now and see where this will go.
same bug for xperia v on all version from ICS to JB, and no way to solve.
Just tried ZeroInfinity's PureXAudio Sound Mod. Does not fix the problem.
Just wiped the cache partition and dalvik cache. Bug still exists.
I was browsing through multiple tabs on Chrome (just trying to re-create the problem by stressing it out). It was fine for 4-5 songs until the song starts to jitter every 20 seconds and would eventually come to a stop. Sometimes it just stops immediately.
Have tried using Wi-Fi instead of HSPA+ data to see if that could be a problem...nope, the music stops on Wi-Fi too.
Leaving Chrome open with 5 tabs, websites are under the mobile format. I'm trying to see if YouTube is causing the problem. Generally, playing any video would trigger any music player to stop. Mobile sites have "less" videos, or any ads/gifs/etc. So far the music has not stopped...but leaving Chrome in idle is making the music stutter for a bit...but still continues to play.
Sigh* Resource allocation problem?
It's been a while...decided to update the current status...
- I still haven't tried if the microSD is the root of the problem (it's a Sandisk Ultra 32gb Class 10).
- I have updated ZeroInfinity's PureXAudio...however, instead of going for the version that's intended for the Z/ZL, I opted for the LITE version. Problem still exists. But at least the music sounds better under my Audio Technica ATH-M50...
- I just flashed DoomKernel for the TX (V5 at the moment), and overclocked to 1.89ghz using NoFrills CPU. Problem still exists...unfortunately.
So...yeah, I'm baffled by how this bug could still exist since ICS. Maybe I should just ditch Walkman altogether and start using PowerAMP. Or if I need to listen to music, I can't browse the internet or else I would just screw up Walkman.
Even the HP Touchpad in the early stages of CM7 ran better.
**edit**
Removed the memory card. Inserted 17 songs into onboard phone storage. Played 3 songs while going through Facebook and Reddit is Fun...no hiccups. Ok, lets start up Chrome.
On the middle of the 4th song, 2 tabs on Chrome, music stops without even stuttering...
I f***ing give up...even PowerAMP doesn't fix this...
Try disabling javascript in browser, seems to solve the issue. i was unable to play music even for 1 minute earlier, but after turning off javascript i played for at least half an hour without any problem while continuosly browsing lots of misc sites.

What Could Cause Bluetooth Audio Stutter? [6.0.1]

Hey everyone,
I've been battling this issue since Day 1, and its been a bumpy road. It seems as though this is a widespread issue across many Android devices, and fixes range but none of them seem to completely eliminate it.
When connected to Bluetooth audio, certain devices, the audio stutters or "skips". Ive noticed this extensively in KItKat. One fix for rooted devices was to increase the idle CPU frequency, I did so with Tasker and it definitely suppressed the stuttering, but did not completely eliminate it.
One of the most notable points of stuttering is when you answer a call via Bluetooth, then hang up. After hanging up, and music resuming, there is a solid ~10-20 seconds of constant stuttering and skipping until playback returns to normal.
Imagine my surprise when I upgraded to 6.0.1, and had absolutely no stuttering without increase CPU frequency or anything! Just buttery-smooth playback, all the way through, even after hanging up a call.
However, a couple of weeks after, the issue came back again. I had to re-enable my task to increase idle CPU frequency, and that horrible stutter after hanging up a call is back, strong as ever. To me this indicates perhaps something I modified after stock interfered., however nothing I can think of should come close to affecting it, other than XPOSED (however, XPOSED was installed prior to this issue coming back up, and no new modules were added)
Additionally, since Marshmallow, my phone won't reconnect automatically to my head unit. For example, when my car is on accessory mode and the stereo is on and BT connected. When I start the car, the system momentarily turns off for ~5 seconds at most, and turns back on. With Lollipop it would automatically reconnect, here is causes some serious problems as the only way to get them to reconnect after is to turn off the stereo and the phone, and turn both back on again. Sometimes I even have to do a couple of cycles.
Does anyone have any ideas?
i tried to do everything possible to fix the issue... I have a stuttering keyboard as well... anykeyboard I use seems to stutter, it lags a little, but most words that i type apear two times...
I have no issues at all like that, or stuttering throughout the system. It is specifically related to Bluetooth audio.
Anyone?

If you do not have this problem, what kernel do you use? I just flashed BeastMode today, hoping that will bring me a bit of luck. However as it worked initially and a few weeks later broke down into the pathetic mess once again, I have my doubts
I use power amp and in advance I set thread priority to the highest and audio buffer to 750ms. I've used them all and haven't had skipping

Seems to have improved it, but reconnect issue is still present
The reconnect issue may be related to the stuttering.
The unit may be also trying to download contacts at the same time which causes the stutter.
Have you tried unpairing it from the unit, renaming your phone and then pairing it again?

I have in fact tried to re-pair the unit many times, to no avail. Factory resets also yield no benefits. It is set to auto download contacts, I'll try to disable that option to see if it improves anything.
I have the stuttering almost removed, however it still sometimes occurs. On a recent long-distance road trip, it randomly started stuttering after playing flawlessly for 1.5 hours, it was incredibly frustrating. I rebooted the phone, and the stereo, reconnected and it started playing smoothly again. Keep in mind however this is with both raising idle CPU frequency, and changing the poweramp options mentioned in Post #7
Perhaps I should try a custom ROM?
You can also try stopping media scanning. I think there is a xposed plugin
I only notice this on a non-name-brand headset. (Also, after it happens, I disconnect and reconnect...and it works fine from there on out...until Power down) My other 3 don't have this problem. Music plays, get a call, hang up, music pick right up. Didn't read your post in detail to see if you've tried a different pair of BT receiver.
FWIW it's not just you, also use PowerAmp, have the buffer turned up, and also get stuttering. On pvsgh's stock rooted deodex'd debloated 5.1.1 with beast mode 1.92 + ZL fix and both my motorola s10 headset and sharkk speaker stutter from time to time. It does not seem to be universal. In the beast mode thread it bluetooth audio issue was brought up, but didn't really get much attention ::shrugs, palms up:: I even limited them to media only but still get the stuttering.
Like so many things it seems, it worked ok before the MM update (910t3 on dok2 ootb) and now doesn't. Kinda like my ability to sign into enterprise level (work - EAP login) routers...
CM12.1 didn't make a difference in my case. Been on several stockish 5.1.1 roms as well. It still happens. Swapping out roms doesn't appear to pay off. It hasn't for me anyway :-/
Interested to see if a solution (or a cause?) lands here...

why is the stock lollipop phone trying to kill my ears?

WTF. Never done anything that radical with this phone but the audio is not even adjustable. Starts in headphones at MAX MAX VOLUME. And from there it is bound to kill the ears. Is this a common bug here? It cant be even adjusted, or shut off.
Never had this problem, what's your Rom?
Edit: Nvm, I just realized that you have stock lollipop

It's happened a few times. I think if the headphones are pulled out and re inserted it is corrected. Still, when it happens it is painful and independent of the set media volume.
I'm finding the phone is built this way deliberately by someone. I mean my ears are ringing this morning from some p. o. s's malware. If I find out who did it I intend to cut out his eyes.
