[Q] [H] How can i dump encrypted userdata with broken screen - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
So i drop my nexus on conrete floor shattering the screen in the process, to the point that the display no longer comes on at all, and i have it encrypted, is there a way i can dump the partition and maybe flash it to my new nexus 6?
its rooted and i left the boot loader unlocked and i know it still powers on because it comes up on linux when i run the lsusb command as Google Inc. Nexus 4 (not really sure why it says 4 but it is it because when i unplug it and re-run lsusb its gone) is there any hope for me?

Hmmm. I assume you had a screen lock?
I'd love to say boot to twrp then enter the password with a USB OTG keyboard but I've no idea if that would work.

Yea i did with a pattern i was hoping for a way to do a dump without having to enter the pattern to boot

Have you tried a keyboard as suggested?

im not really sure how to enter a pattern with a keyboard though

How about a mouse? Not sure if that would work either but I'm almost temped to dig out my OTG cable and see!

Yeah, I works! I was able to boot in to TWRP and unlock a pattern with a mouse. Good to know!

Imagine a pattern grid of dots...

Then imagine a grid of numbers...
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
Then you'll get the idea. Although last version of twrp or the one before uses actual pattern now instead if numbers so it may need downgrading a version or two

I flashed a Rom and it let me do this, "Password Protect Bootloader/Recovery" problem is I don't remember which Rom and I can't get the search the results I'm looking for.

you can password protect twrp recovery, but you have to set it up in recovery. bootloader i dont see how a rom can protect, or a rwcovery, considering that on a nexus roms dont have anything to do with recoveries or the bootloader. are you sure it was on a nexus?
Are you talking about the unlock code to get to your homescreen? If so..... the numbers are setup like a telephone, 1-9.

My phone can have a password to start up, it made me enter it twice. Onece right when starting up, then it would show a boot animation and ask for a password to start up, then it would boot up to lock screen. Idk what it was though. Maybe I'll figure it out right now
Alright, I went into settings and setup a pin password. It has the option to require pin to start up device. Maybe that's what your talking about? Its like a white and red screen that asks for a password and says encrypted on the top. BTW, I'm encrypted haha.I think I'm on 5.1

boot pattern with broken screen

So my Nexus 6 bit the dust but there's some data I'd love to pull of it, but with the broken screen I can't enter the pattern I had set on the bootloader. I've been googling to see if there's a way to bypass the pattern entry on the bootloader without formatting the device but it looks like I'm out of luck, did I miss something?

Forgot lock screen troubles

Hello all,
I'm in a bit of a predicament. I have an old OnePlus 3t that I have not used for years. The device contains extremely important business information that I need to recover. However, I cannot for the life of my remember my lock screen pattern to boot the device. I tried to remember the password and have now triggered the messaging of "This device will be wiped after 8 more tries."
I haven't updated the phone in years, so it would be on an old version of Android. Is there any toolset that could remove this lockscreen and allow the device to boot?

If you:
1. Have unlocked the bootloader, AND
2. Do NOT have an on-boot password set (a lock screen password is ok)
then it is possible to remove the lock screen password.
So, do you meet this requirement? If you do, then do you have TWRP installed?

I thought my bootloader was unlocked, but I cannot completely remember. When I boot the phone with volume down and power, I see a OnePlus branded screen that is also asking me to swipe the password pattern. I assume this means the bootloader is not unlocked, right? If I try to enter the password on this screen, will it use up the twies that trigger the wiping of my phone?

Power+Vol down takes you to recovery. The fact that it's asking you for a password tells you that the phone is encrypted and has an on-boot password.
So, unfortunately you're not going to be able to recover the data on your phone.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you will always see the unlocked bootloader warning screen when you power on or reboot (before it goes to any other screens.
If you do not see that bootloader unlocked warning screen, the bootloader is locked.

It is definitely locked then..
Is there any known exploit that might be available for the device? It is older and has not been updated in years... Even if there were a way to keep trying patterns without triggering the device wipe, that would be hugely beneficial.

The security features and encryption are very secure. You won't be able to exploit these, to extract your data. They do this on purpose, otherwise it would defeat the whole purpose of data security in the first place.
If the data was important to you; you should have been backing it up. Many easy and free options available to back up your data. I'm always surprised how many folks don't take advantage of any of those backup options. Then they come scrambling over to xda once a disaster has struck, asking for ways to retrieve their data. By that time, it's too late. Don't wait until after the car has crashed, to put your seatbelt on!
If your device is rooted and had twrp, I got a file to flash and it cleans the pattern or password, it safe my life, many times. So let me know. To upload the file.

Problem after updating device

Today I have an unusual request. At the Sister on the phone after the update asks for a pattern and despite entering the correct pattern it is not possible to unlock the phone, unfortunately the fingerprint for huawei after restart will not unlock the phone. Unfortunately, there is only one copy of her child's pictures on the phone and I don't think I need to know how important they are, I ask you for help. What can I do to get at least to the pictures in the internal memory. I read about adb but unfortunately the phone has no SD card slot so there is nowhere to put it in, I downloaded some Google programs that either do not support this model or are paid $ 60. All the time we try to enter familiar patterns every hour but after 3 attempts he locks the phone. The phone has an original system, no root, no modifications and USB debugging is turned off (as is standard in the system, because it was not needed by the sister).

Isn't it great to see Android security in action. Send the phone to Huawei for unlocking. Proof of purchase will be required unfortunately.

That looks correct. Contact them with the issue, i'm sure they can help you.

I tried ADB but with usb debugging turned off I can't do it.

This is exactly how it should work tbh. There is no reason for the fingerprint and pattern unlock to change after a simple update. Either more is going on, or you are extremely unlucky. If Huawei can not keep your data, maybe you are best to get them to reset and start using backups for your family member from here on.
Edit: I know that is a bad answer in your situation. However, it should not be a simple process to bypass security on any Android phone.

Try doing an 'emergency backup' in eRecovery.

There is unfortunately no other option, otherwise a fingerprint would unlock the device.
How to make such a copy? After making such a copy will I have access to data? Can you expand the topic?

Xiaomi Correct password problem

Hello guys .
I faced with this problem 3 or 4 times
Xiaomi note 9 and POCO m3
not open with even a correct password , correct pattern , correct finger and not open with old password too
I thought this problem only is forgot password but unfortunately its is not
This Xiaomi problem is never fixed and there is no solution about it, except : Factory Reset
unfortunately
I think this problem come back to finger print and who disabled that setting they are good with no problem
I test some trick for saving data and did not work
1 - Reboot phone
2 - FASTBOOT
3 - Recovery mode
4 - turn off phone for 1 to 3 days
5 - try connecting to Pc with ADB and bypass lock section . without USB debug its not happening
And my correct password / pattern / finger don't work and phone locked up for 2 minute after 2 minute after and after etc.
Thanks for advanced to check this problem in android 10 and 11 on m3 and note 9
Edit : Guys i remember my password and know my pattern ok ? All I want from you is what to do to get into the phone with my own password / finger / pattern that I never forgot.

anyway problem still stand and i cant open my phone with correct password.
and finger scanner don't care about finger and said wrong.
Can i flash a rom without losing data ? only replace gesture for bypasing lockscreen ?
I am facing same issue.. I'd upgrade the version last week... But today suddenly cannot use my correct password to unlock..
Is this thread resolved?
