T800 update today - Galaxy Tab S General

I was notified today 6/1/15 there was a update available. So, like I normally do I installed it. It was supposedly about stability and security. Can anyone give me some more info on this?

Be careful with any updates regarding security. Often these updates patch exploits which means you can lose root.
I do not accept any security updates and have updates to security policy disabled.

Just disabled security update, thanks. Don't you know I was going to root today or tomorrow! Guess I will see if I messed up.

Incredible OTA Update 1.65.605.2

Has anyone else received this update?
Not here.
Los Angeles, CA
lol figures once i get root an update starts rolling out, it probably enables wifi n like they released for the EVO today.
1.22.605.2 is the software version i have (rooted)
It adds 3G Mobile hotspot and fixes the signal issue, im in a pickle now though lol. cant remove superuser
Not exactly a pickle - just don't do the upgrade, wait for someone else to take the OTA download and make it root-safe.
where did you confirm this info as to what the update offers?
I guess i am confused, what would happen if we did the update with our rooted phones?
Nothing. Because with rooted phones you won't see the OTA Update...but if you were to manually upgrade without it being root proofed....you'd loose root.
Wait - weren't we already at 1.22.605.2? That's what rev I'm running, and I haven't taken an OTA since the first few days after launch.

Incredible OTA Update 1.65.605.2
I'm confused to, so if you are rooted, you won't see this update? or you will see it and if you do it, you lose root? I have the stock rom, which is what I thought disabled your OTA's is this an incorrect thinking?

The name of this post is Incredible OTA Update 1.65.605.2 so even though we are at 1.22.605.2 that is not 1.65.605.2
Thats the thing, i was rooted and did get the OTA update notifications, hit accept for the update by mistake. And the only reason why i confirmed that info is because i have it on my inc.
P.S sorry lol made a type in the title of the post, its 1.35.605.2
So if you updated as root, did you lose your Root? It is not guaranteed that you would loose it, just likely is all. I feel like they released it to break our Root, and nothing more... but maybe they fixed a few issues too... we have the same screen grounding issue the EVO had, and the recent update fixed theirs... but who knows...
EDIT: Posted an article to an outdated update. Oops...
so i assume you lost root?
Yes i did.
I haven't seen it yet. <-- OHIO
have you tried redoing root? did you loose recovery?
I havent tried redoing the root process again, but how is that going to work? isn't the root process based off of the original software? the baseband is different as well.
Haven't seen it yet either <-- Rhode Island
Didn't find any information on it either. Was their a "more info" link included with yours? as with other OTA updates. Changelog, etc.?
Better question would be, do you have a screen shot of your About Phone page (baseband, software version, etc.)
somebody who gets the update needs to upload the file so a dev can do something with it.

Just received a device management update notification on my phone

It does not say what the heck it is, and I'm cautious about updating. Anyone know what this update does?

Probably a fix for the Stagefright vulnerability. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/stock-receiving-update-t3177271
Im rooted on oc1 and want to know if this small update will break my root, so ill wait.
It is the stagefright patch. It will most likely break root if you update. All it fixes is stagefright and that's it. Nothing else.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (Unlocked) 11/29/2017 OTA Android update, Safe or not?

Hello.
Does anyone know the actual contents of this OTA update that was released today 11/29/17? After the horrible time Samsung and Android gave me after the Note7 fiasco I have become very untrusting of them. The first Note8 OTA update left me with little options relating to rollback and such things.
I would like to know what is exactly in this update. The page I found is vague. The information they leave for the average consumer is always vague.
If no one knows, can anyone lead me to where I can find more information about this particular update?
So that leaves me at this point. If I install this update will it limit my options as for Odin, custom firmware, etc?
So all that Samsung tells me can be found here: http://doc.samsungmobile.com/SM-N950U1/ATT/doc.html
Thank you in advance for any and all assistance. It is always appreciated.
Have not seen any issue's so far on this OTA.
Head over to sammobile dot com, to read more.
In short:
"In addition to the November security patch, the update brings improved performance in the Calendar, Gallery, Voice Recorder, and Reminder apps, a new secure Wi-Fi function, and a fix for an unexplained Samsung DeX error. The firmware version is N950FXXU1BQK6, and at upwards of 840 MB, is among the biggest OTA updates that don’t bring a major Android version upgrade that we have seen"
Safe? It will, at least temporarily, block any attempt at root. If you're running a Substratum theme, it's best to uninstall it before running the update, based on the experience of those who got the October update. Do not reinstall apps that were backed up while running the theme.
Thank you. I am going to Sammobile right now to read more about it.

Is it designed to block rooting?
Can you still do the WiFi hotspot trick. Where you try to sing into a hotspot with wrong password then turn on hotspot and quickly turn off WiFi. Can't live without that.

The method for rooting Snapdragon phones won't work with updated firmware.

Yes it blocks current SamFail method. The U2 bootloader also cannot be downgraded once installed.

Thank you for explaining. I was wondering if I would be able to rollback to original stock firmware after updating.
How can I get rid of this update and block all future OTAs?
This update is just sitting somewhere in my phone waiting for me to hit that button. What do I do, boot into factory tech mode and clear the cache or something?

Not 100% sure to be honest, but you can maybe try disabling security updates in settings/security menu or maybe disabling/freezing "software update" through an app like TitaniumBackup.
Check the SamFail thread for more info:

I have the unlocked Note from Samsung on Verizon's network. Currently, tethering works straight out the box. Can anyone confirm that this update does not break this? Thanks
I probably wont update until Oreo...

That's what I'm trying to hold out for. I have not as of yet experienced any glitches or problems of any kind so I don't see why an update is justified. Just give us Oreo!!! It should've been pre-built into the Note8.

Thank you very much. I'm looking into it for more information now....
Took the update. So far so good. OpenVPN and MS RDP working fine as usual. I was a bit worried as I've read reports of updates screwing up WiFi. I've recently tried these apps on three new Samsung devices and had disconnect issues with all. Oddly, one was a dex using Ethernet - maybe this will fix that, I'll test it. Btw the other devices were a Chromebook pro and a galaxy tab a.

I got the Update 2.5ui may be

I just got the update msg and i am afraid to update because if i do i may lose the Root and ect ha?!
I'm pretty sure you don't have the OneUI 2.5 update. Maybe the OneUI 2.1 but definitely not the 2.5 one. Even the S10/Note10 don't have it yet and we're after them. Also if you're rooted you shouldn't receive OTA updates at all. Can you attach a screenshot so it's clearer what you got?
This is what i got. May be it is or some security + software update
That was last months update.
The August update is ETH1
Ohh!!! Ok i thought it's the new one ??* if i update this i will lost root and may be boot loop?
I still think that if you're rooted you shouldn't have received this though. You sure you're rooted? Check with this app please just in case: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
Yes. Rooted and using all rooted apps in here

Is the December security update notification I got real?

I am on the stock firmware. Yestrday, I receieved a push notification that the December security update was downloaded waiting. Since it appeared in my settings and I assumed it was legitimate and installed. Question: was that a genuine Samsung update? I never received an update before of any kind on this device. If not, I will do a factory reset. I will also add that since installing it, Wattpad has been having paging problems, while everything else seems okay so far.
Seems to be real, though purely a security patch, most likely taking away root possibilities. The 817V doesn't appear to be receiving the OTA update (authentication problem on update check).
