Is it just me or is the lack of Froyo turning some people on this forum into total dicks? The flaming, ASCII text, FFS comments, etc. Is it past your bed time? Is it you're taking your home or job stress out on other people? Grow up and be considerate of people once in a while.
I spent a year on the Incite forum; it wasn't as bad. Then I spent 6 months on the Pure forum and still didn't see this type of abuse. I read the whole congition forum before jumping and didn't see it this bad. It's just here in the general section. Something about this forum, phone or android is making its users very sour!
People ask for help or fire off questions without due process. Deal with it! Some people search better than others and some people don't empower themselves at all and just fire off questions before letting them sink in. I've been doing tech support for over a decade and know people come in all types. That's why we have Call in, KB's, Forums, Email, WebEx, etc... For modifying your phone or voiding your warranty; we have forums so accept everyone as they come. You stop posting your dumb ass comments and it will filter into the older pages. A simple already posted or subtle link to something already posted is more than sufficient.
It's just you.

It's just you. The forum has been very helpful to me.
People flame you if you ask something stupid or obvious. "Deal with it!!"
Edit: Added quotations.
Just you.
If you search from the top level of the captivate forums it searches all sub forums. Your the one with all the exclamation points. If you work in a tech support field, you should really have thicker skin then you are demonstrating.
Moved to Q&A.
Also toning the language down in the first post a tad wouldn't hurt. You can get the same point across without being quite so confrontational.
People can be dicks about it..but they have every right to be when one someone asked a question that has been asked 20 times already, sometimes just 1 or 2 post back from where the question is asked. I understand people get in a hurry..don't read the instructions..the dog ate their homework..but come-on..

+1 For It's Just You.
Every forum has factions that are smart asses or outright asses.
For the most part this forum is great and extremely helpful and i don't see any different tenor here than any other forum i have frequented.
+ a majority of people here have already been running froyo for sometime....so there is no lack.
+1 for its just u. I found this forum very helpful.
Edit: I never so far had to wait for even a couple hours before someone answered any question/request I posted here..
Wow.... That's all I'm saying...

All I ever read on androidforums are people crying about when Froyo is released. ATT this, Samsung that, no Froyo cryyyyyy. And then none of them will flash a leaked Froyo build. It's like they are all so excited for the OTA to come full of AT&T apps which they'll just try and remove anyway.
It must be me.

To be fair, I do expect the official build to fix a lot of bugs we're having with the leaked roms, so I can see why people would be waiting for the official release. There's a whole thread in the general section about froyo problems, most of which haven't been resolved in the custom roms.

lol... even still, i feel ya though.
When I first got my captivate I stumbled onto some Evo forums and thought that some of the conversations where quite a bit nastier than here. I was very pleased and thankful that I didn't have to deal with that while trying to decipher the unwritten language that seems to be somewhat unique to each Android device (which, IMO makes it hard to search for items with unfamiliar concepts or procedures and why we have people asking the same questions over and over... you know, besides just being lazy).
But I definitely don't think that's not as true anymore. It won't stop my addiction to reading, learning, and flashing new roms and kernels though!
Just figured this out totally by accident! I have the U.S. version of the GTab 2 7.0 GT-P3113, otherwise the one that has built in remote control capabilities via IR blaster. Just to let everyone know that if you flash the U.K. version of the JellyBean ROM listed on this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032683, And do so WITHOUT WIPING DATA, while coming from the STOCK 4.0.4 ROM...
YOU WILL RETAIN IR FUNCTIONALITY!!!
Peel, TouchSquid and others that use this IR port will still function.
I hope this helps at least one other person, and always you can click that little ol' ty button if you'd like to.

IR should work on all stock based roms.
The issue is with non stock roms such as cm or aokp.
Please search next time before posting.

Oh so clever! I told them that this has been covered. I informed him. Then I also let him know its in the wrong section, as this isn't really dev work, but more of a general thing. I'm sorry I don't have the energy to overly explain things to people every time. You can go to your lollipop forum, and leave the xda. It is not my fault that you took it in a negative way. I was not disrespectful to OP at all. If I was, then OP, I won't apologize because I didn't mean it in that way, but please understand I meant nothing ill by it. I didn't say anything rude to op, or you, to warrant your profane language and negative tone.

It is in a couple of the threads with stock firmwares. People with 3113 tabs flashed 3100 roms and were delighted to discover IR still working. I don't know the exact thread, but it has been covered already. Again, just letting you know it is old news, and you'll be better off posting this in the general section.

Thank you. Couldn't have said it better myself. Turds.:good:
Ok, I get it, should've gone under general... no need for the 3rd degree, dictionary.
You people are seriously a bunch of wimps if you considered my statements mean or rude. The world has gotten SOFT. I'm done.
the September 18th "leak" fixed the IR issue on the P3113 and any stock based 4.1.1 ROM has since been updated to that base fixing the IR issue, I've been on this section of XDA for less then a month and am aware of this. Perhaps if you have been active here in the last 3 months you might be aware of this. And not being rude but he is right, this is the development section and what you provided belongs on the general section but is frankly unneeded information as it is several months out of date as a proper fix has come out.
You guys seem to have missed the post where I already agreed that this should be under general. Also, I scavenge these forums on a daily basis, If I missed that bit of info where this is already covered, then I missed it's because it was buried in some thread that wasn't specifically covering the topic of the IR port working in non GT-P3113 OEM ROMs. I know a couple of people who've avoided using anything but the stock 4.0.4 simply for fearing the IR port not being able to function.
But that's not the point, not trying to spread old news, just trying to make specific information easier to find, which I believe I've accomplished.
Now if a moderator wants to move/delete this thread, then so be it. I understand this should've gone under general, and I can admit that I put this in the wrong section. That being said, all future posts damning my thread for being in the wrong section, will be considered trolling, which is, of course, not cool.

Kingo and vroot have been determined to be malware and unsafe for use, as such all threads will be closed and links removed.

This thread would be more helpful if it had an informative subject line, such as "What to do about Kingo malware?". The subject you provided ("What should we do now?") gives readers no clue what the thread is about.
Anyway, does anyone know how the malware determination was made, and by whom? Does the purported malware afflict the PC that runs the software, the phone that gets rooted, or both?
Also, I notice that the locked Kingo thread in the dev forum only mentions the malware determination in the last post of the thread. Anyone who just reads the initial post, or who doesn't read all the way to the end, will still think the software has been confirmed ok. (I know the download link in the initial post has been removed, but that has little effect since the software is trivially Googled.)

Looking at it now, I agree with the subject line needing to be a little better.
I was just told by a MOD the following. >
So now that I already have Kingo, what do you think I should do ? Keep it, our undo it? Please let me know, because I dont see anything wrong with it. Phone is working great.
MOD Get rid of it, it steals your information and sends it to remote servers and leaves back doors on your device and pc
MOD Correction, it's thought to do these things
Okay, I will undo it......When I plug my phone back up to PC and run Kingo, it has an Unroot option. Should I do it that way? Or should I look for STOCK files that came with the phone and us Odin to flash it? Thanks for your time.
MOD Stock, don't use the app anymore
If it's really malware (I don't know how that determination was made), any passwords, credit-card or bank-account numbers, etc. on your PC or your phone may have been exposed and should be changed now. Your PC and your phone may need to be disinfected, preferably by clean-installing a known-good system.
Just for future reference, when a company with no known track record offers free, unvetted, closed-source software, it's risky to install it on any system whose integrity you care about. That's especially the case when they claim to be a commercial venture but they say that their product will always be free, and there's no apparent way for them to profit from it.
I still don't know what evidence, if any, shows that this software is malicious. But it seemed blatantly suspicious from the beginning, so I've refrained from installing it.

Why wouldn't we trust what they say about certain methods? Threads and links being closed. I'm just saying...

So far, no dev or mod has claimed here to have specific evidence that the software in question is malicious.
Sure, there's reason to be suspicious. But that was already obvious just from looking at the Kingo website.

I don't know what to do. I have been rooting and modding phones and other electronics for years and now I feel like it's just not worth it. I trusted XDA and the Devs a lot. Heck a dev said that this way was easier and closed an old thread. So I ran with it and now 2 days later it's closed as well. I'm disappointed

I think you need to look more closely at what it means to trust someone.
I do trust the devs here regarding the integrity of their own software, because their track record gives me evidence that they're trustworthy in that regard. I've flashed ROMs from here many times.
But I don't trust the devs--or anyone in the world--in the sense of automatically believing what they say about everything. I'm sure they wouldn't expect me to.
So if a dev makes an offhand remark that someone else's software (that they have no way of examining) is safe, then of course I'm not going to just take their word for it. And if they make an equally offhand remark that the software is malicious--but fail to mention why they think so--then I'm not going to automatically believe that, either.

I think your course of action depends on how much you have at risk. Do you have sensitive/valuable passwords, account numbers, etc. on your phone or your PC?
If you don't, then you might want to just ignore the risk until and unless someone establishes that Kingo is really malware.
But if you do have sensitive information at risk, your decision is trickier. The only really secure course of action would be to wipe both your phone and your PC, and to reset all your potentially-exposed passwords and financial accounts. But that's a lot of work to go to for a threat that might not even exist. So it really depends on what you have at stake.
In any case, I wish you the best of luck!
If all it does is send info to their servers I ponder if I could just start it under a virtual machine with no internet connection and root.

I was thinking this as well but if the application leaves a back door open on the device itself then unless you plan on having your phone in Airplane mode 24/7 it would eventually send its payload over the wire.
I think the PC portion is controllable, its the mobile portion that has a lot of people on edge.
I found this website:
www[dot]majorgeeks.com/files/details/kingo_android_root[dot]html
Which seems to have links back into XDA about who made the claim and what not.
I see it like this, until someone can prove without a doubt that it is opening holes in devices and leaking information, its just another "he-said-she-said" argument.

Or someone is mad because they didn't come up with a root solution like this first, LOL just saying.
I tried the Vroot first, and it had a superuser app (from playstore) but its all in Chinese letters.
So I uninstalled that super user app and used Kingo to unroot (Which works perfectly)
Then I rebooted and rooted using Kingo. (Worked perfectly)
It put the superSU on there (In English) and has been awesome
Now Im going back to stock and never rooting again in my life because it pisses me off I can't trust ...Never mind
I will be using Vega method soon as I get home and Im done. This sucks. Battery life will also suck. Aw well. At least my info will be protected
I guess. Kingo,,,I wish they wouldn't of said that about you. Now I want you gone.
I've contacted Kingo on their website and asked them to comment, hopefully they will respond to the possibility of their app being permanently declared malware on the largest Android forum on the net. We'll see what they have to say about it, if anything.
Response from Kingo.

Root De La Vega works fine. Yes it does take a little more work and you have to wipe data but I've rooted/unrooted/rooted again and I've had no issues using DesignGear's method. DesignGear's is a great Dev...I don't think him telling people to use Kingo should change that opinion. Kingo seemed really, really weird to me from the beginning...but it does root the phone!
This is not a rant or a moan or whatever you want to call it. This is just clearing a few things up after the last few days what i have been reading on the forum.
Firstly support for N4 will still be there after this update, and i am sure we have at least one more major update to come for our beloved device. People saying that our phone will be next are just talking rubbish. People all over the forum are crying thinking that our device will be next. Until a confirmation from Google can people please stop with the conspiracy theories.
Also regarding with the launcher. Now i am not that really bothered if it gets released or not as i do not use Google Now. But again were is the official confirmation that the launcher will not be included for our device? There is none. Just tech sites writing there stuff as usual and every one is lapping it up and making a fuss.
I love my phone and i do not see a reason why i should upgrade to the Nexus 5. I do not want though people in the forum to start moaning about things that are not official yet from the God itself which is Google. Yes they are not perfect but until the actual release gets to our device and we have things missing then fine all hell can break lose.
Oh and one last thing. Yes am gutted that we not got the update soon as the release came out but we are still the first to get it were other mega devices are not getting it at least December or Xmas the earliest..So am still thankful for the Nexus line. But that will start not meaning anything soon anyway if they carry this new strategy of there to put money first before anything else.
But till then please take a chill pill people.
This will get shut down and deleted am sure but i just wanted people to read this and seriously take it easy till there is ACTUAL CONFIRMATION by GOOGLE THEMSELVES..
Mods sorry if this should not be here but sometimes a man has enough when reading through the forums and having whiny kids whine all the time.
And to add...We are XDA...If things go missing and are not included in the build that our beloved N4 should get then people trust our great and respectful Developers here who are if you do not mind me saying better than those at Google..We will have those features that the N5 has and if not should be better build than stock...So please show your support for our devs and less whining and help this place for newbies instead of moaning all the time about something that has not been confirmed yet
:highfive: for you!
This is exactly my opinion on the subject.
If you are on XDA, odds are that you know how to mod your phone, and believe me, everything that will not come with the official OTA will be made avaliable soon here on XDA.
Right, you might need root, you can argue you do not want to root but then what is the point of your anger if you do not want to take action to get something you want?
Just wait for Google to release the OTA and everything will be clear!
Should be soon I guess

exactly my friend. until something has been confirmed i do not understand why people are panicking. and by the next update which will be by summer time our phone should be more than capable to handle it and i am sure we are in for that to. phones should have a support from the OS development team ie Google at least maximum two years...so why are people are stressed is beyond me.
Now as the Galaxy Nexus that is a strange one and Google should state the reasons why they are not supporting it but again that is nothing to do with me or concerns me..But for people to start saying that the N4 is next is beyond silly to say

But again were is the official confirmation that the launcher will not be included for our device? There is none. Just tech sites writing there stuff as usual and every one is lapping it up and making a fuss.

Sure there is confirmation. It is not included in the Nexus 7 WiFi KitKat update. And Google confirmed it with The Verge and said it is possible they will bring it to other devices other than the N5 someday but not initially.
Great post OP.. You know what I think it is? Purely my opinion after mulling over how absolutely weird the 4.4 rollout and release has been.
Ever been in a corporate environment where someone important is replaced? It's hell.. JBQ left and was replaced.. So here you have a new guy who is pulling the old corporate "I'm new and have to flex my superiority and change things to make it look like I'm doing something different and being productive" (ie: Fishing for his next promotion).. This happens in nearly every business.. It's hilarious to watch happen in real life because most employees know it's coming.. 3 months later after everyone hates the new guy and his useless changes everything goes right back to the way it was. I'm certain all the rumblings this is causing is being heard..
This is all very nice but it makes my think longer and hard did l make the right decision buying a nexus 4.With the ota out for nexus 7 and 10 l just wonder what the delay is with nexus 4

Please enlighten me, what's the difference between your thread and the one that got closed. You've already labeled all that don't share your point of view by "whiners" (btw weren't you the one that also happened to "whine" at the beginning? ) so what do you expect? It's obvious that any sort of discussion won't be possible here. Your thread will sooner or later became exactly the same place of mindless arguments and eventually closed.
But you're right. If am not interested to participate so I am done. Good luck though, I am sure you're get many "thanks".

It has to do with the Ti core not being supported anymore. Also, not being supported by Ti did not meant it doesn't work for Galaxy Nexus, just means Google would not support a device without former support to its hardware.
Anyways, Galaxy Nexus got 4.4 already, go Install it

Isn't this the waiting room for nexus 4 owners that are waiting on the ota?

To be honest the reason why i opened this thread is to get my opinion about the many things that i have read on the forum. Many false information that is going around by others is beyond ridiculous because they listen to tech sites most of them without any proper confirmation by Google itself...Now as to regarding the updates that are coming for our device if there is an official changelog by Google to say what are the changes from the older nexus devices compare to the N5 then i will eat my hat if it is out already stating what we are getting and missing out on..
But again people forget that XDA is here to help..Hence why we should not be ranting and raving
What am trying to say is that i want this thread to stick to a proper adult discussion about our device regarding the build that we should get..And i do not want people to give mis-information till we get it from the Big Boss itself

I can understand your point here OP but, the purpose of forums such as this one is to allow for open discussion on a topic. I see no issue with speculation or assumption as long as people keep their heads. That is, after all, what makes things interesting and keeps people intrigued. If we went purely on the facts at hand 100% of the time, discussions would end fairly quickly and most forums would be desolate places.

Greetings Everyone,
I posted this over in the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 threads. The original thread I'm speaking of can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2758406
As I am sure many of you are aware Verizon Wireless and AT&T users have yet to receive root. I have created a petition asking for an unlocked bootloader that upon reaching its signature goal will be sent out to VZW/ATT as well as Samsung Mobile. Petitioning has worked for a number of devices in the past such as the HTC Rezound. If you would all please take a minute or less of your time to SIGN&SHARE this petition it would help all of us out tremendously. Below I have pasted the OP from my original thread.
Petition link is at the bottom of this post.
There was some discussion by Russ77 about starting a petition over in the bounty thread, so I went ahead and made one.
You may think this is a long shot or even a foolish attempt, but the bottom line is it could work. The likeliness of this working goes up with every signature. If you are reading this- SIGN! If this really picks up we may be able to change Verizon's policy all together! It takes maybe 3 seconds to sign so lets get this thing moving!
How Can You Help?
1. Sign the petition
2. Get Social- tweet it, facebook it, anything to spread awareness
3. Share this on other forums and websites
Remember, signing this is great but signing and sharing is even better.
Current Goal: 5,000

Dude I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry while reading this. Let me explain to you what you're asking, you are asking these companies to allow you the chance to break their device, I'm I right? That's like asking the owner of a house to let you in so that you can rob them, I can't believe XDA is being reduced to this level. Here is a tip, why not find another carrier that gives you the freedom to root until devs can figure something out. Over here we're still trying to figure out how to prevent Knox from tripping once rooted. I'm not sure petitioning mobile companies is the way to go.

Clearly you haven't been around the forums long enough? Hence, your logic makes no sense either. If you want more support for our devices, unlocking it for other variants would attract more development and hopefully contribute to solving tripping knox. So, don't try to discourage a movement that's been done on other devices which BTW was sometimes successful. It's a possible cause.
Thanks for the write op!

Based on my limited knowledge of American carriers, this has been attempted before and both VZW and AT&T have little care for such things.
Is there any *recent* example of success?
I remember very clearly that one of those companies stayed that they would not allow unlocking bootloaders, period.
Also I really really doubt you can move Samsung with a petition, they just don't give a crap about them.
Sorry but you might be wasting your time

It's easier to carry such view point, but of course there are those among us who are looking for quick fix while the rest are working diligently in finding a solution, if you believe that taking a petition to these company will be a positive way then by all means go for it, but remember we're talking about companies that don't give a sh*t about what customers think when it comes to granting boot loader access.
Sigh....another petition thread? This will never happen, so don't bother wasting your time. Don't bother wasting more time than you already have. It will not happen. Period.

Ummmm.... The Sprint S5 has had root since the day it came out. Go read some more please....
We buy their devices to do with as we please...period if the bootloader is unlocked warranty void end of story... what's so funny and hard to understand.people who know the risks also know the fix.
