Since upgrading to 5.1.1, Google Play Music keeps mobile radio active even after I stop listening to streaming music. About an hour after I stop the music and exit from the app, I get a warning from Stamina Mode indicating that GPM is preventing the phone from sleeping. When I check the usage statistics, it shows that GPM is the biggest drain on my battery. The only way to stop this is to force close the app from the app manager, but then it starts again the moment I try to use it (which is daily).
Does anyone else have this issue, or at least know how to prevent GPM from keeping mobile radio active when not in use?
Problem solved. There was a bug preventing the phone from sleeping when WiFi was enabled. Changed the advanced WiFi setting to stay active only when plugged in and now the phone sleeps properly and Google music behaves as it should.

Hi,
I've been having some really weird Wifi behaviour since 4.2.1.
I'm using stock Rom, rooted, and I have Wifi sleep policy set to "only when charging", so it should go to sleep when idle.
I think something is waking it up, not sure what. And it's struggling to go back to sleep (or at least this is what it looks like).
Attached is the really weird graph of the battery stats, you can see an example of how Wifi is switching on/off like crazy. Also attached BBS logs from idle. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sounds like maybe a rogue app doing something to wake, maybe a sync issue.Try shutting off auto sync and see if it helps.

So far no luck, but this was my assumption too. Any way to track down the rogue app?
Id maybe start with obvious ones like facebook and apps that have wifi permissions.I cant really say as I dont know what you using. Also if you are using an email client that accesses wifi to sync.

I've found Wifi doesn't turn off for 5-15 minutes and sometimes NEVER since ICS. I personally use Tasker to turn off wifi at screen off, but Green Power or Setting Profiles Lite are two other options to do this, and actually do it.
IMO, if your device is going into deep sleep, it should be fine for battery and otherwise.
As far as the Wi-Fi behaving that way, look at Google maps, latitude and location reporting. They're the problems for me and I'm working on them as well.
Try diagnostic apps which tell you which app is using your Wi-Fi and check it out..

Hi everyone,
I've had weird battery life with my phone since I flashed official V20A. Sometimes the phone goes into perfect deep sleep and sometimes it gets stuck at 51 MHz and drains battery like hell !
There are many people here complaining about the same problem and that the phone drains battery quickly over night.
The cause of this problem for me is that Mediaserver keeps running in the background even though I'm not listening to any music. Usually happens when I unplug my Headphones without pausing the music first (and sometimes it happens for no specific reason).
To check if this is also causing a problem with your phone, go to Settings - Power saver - Battery use - scroll down and tap "Mediaserver". Look at "Keep awake” and know the exact time, go back and wait for a few seconds then open Mediaserver again. If Keep awake time has increased and you're not playing any music, that means it's causing deep sleep issues.
The solution of this is to simply play then pause music payer (I use PlayerPro).
I have no idea what's causing this but this seems to be a temporary solution for me.
Let me know if this also works with you
I think i have the same problem, but i dont use the music player and i dont have any music on my phone.
The awake time of media server is 8h 33m. Any other solution maybe?
I don't have media server at all but in running application i always find active DMClient running as process in Software Update, PC suite and Google Play app.
But i noticed something that might solve my problem but i don't know how to do it. After i flashed to v20a first couple days i had 1-2% drain per night, but after a played in hidden menu trying to change FOTA server to EU-server my phone starrted to drain 12-15% per night.
Can i disable DMClient or FOTA?

Go in to mobile data. And set a data limit. Then scroll down and select the app you want background data off for.

i don't use viber, in leak release i didn't have that issue
I just noticed these issues today usage no different from the past weeks. 1st is I noticed battery drained really quickly with no indication. 2nd is music the equilizer would not work. Idk if the 2nd one deals with the whole ram management issue but it does come back and it's like it's turned half way down
Lots of threads in the forums re: battery drain. For me, my biggest hitters were (1) the stock email app sync and (2) wifi scanning.
I'd suggest going into stock email app settings if you use it and turn sync to manual long enouh to see if it has an impact and make sure your wifi's always allow scanning is unchecked. Then do some reading imto other causes people are niting.
oh, and android 101: shut off location when ur not using it.
Not sure about the EQ but I thought it only works with the stock music app.

Also, use an automation app such as Tasker to control syncing, wifi, etc.
Yea it didn't die on me today which is good. Will try that tasker
My biggest battery drain was with Google wallet, specifically the NFC Tap & Pay. It's almost as if the Wallet app gets an exclusive hold on the NFC radio & doesn't let go... Finally had to just turn off the NFC radio & the battery drain is much better. .
I have a 300mbps DL and 20+ upload and a 5ghz modem. My s5 has no problem showing 100-200mbps on the speed test app, but my s6 is barely hitting 80mbps. But in real life situations its less then 1mbps. There will be long periods of time for Pandora to load the next song without skipping as well as overall growing the internet is slow. I'm outside my 14 days so I'm hoping its a bug. And that damned screen rotation issue.... My battery has been stellar. But I don't text much or make too many calls from it.
I updated to marshmallow now every time my Screen is off, either slacker or Pandora or milk music will stop playing, after a few seconds, when the buffer is over.
I checked the settings under app battery saving. And turned it off for those apps. But still the same.
I found I'm not the only one Going though it.
Any ideas of what might be causing this.
Thanks in advance
Did a factory reset and cleared the cached but still doing the same Thing, when I turn the screen back on, says network error on the app
Please help

Everything I find is about people wanting to setup Tasker to make their phone deep sleep. I need mine to stay awake.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505, on 5.1.1. CyanogenMod 12.1.
Issue: Using phone on work wifi to listen to music, wifi disconnects after 15 minutes (assuming due to the Android deep sleeping). Annoying that I have to reconnect so I don't use all my mobile data.....
Wanted solutions: A Tasker profile set up that when connected to work SSID, task will run to keep Android from deep sleep (battery will be hit hard but I can make it work), and phone will resume usual deep sleep once I leave work. I'm also open to hearing suggestions if you think deep sleep is NOT the cause.
Unwanted solutions: Apps like Stay Alive!, don't seem like they can be set to activate how and when I want. Prove me wrong though and I'll definitely be interested!
Other info: settings/wifi/advanced/keep WiFi on during sleep is set to ALWAYS. Doesn't seem to make a difference.
The only battery saver I have is Greenify, but I don't think that's causing the issue, yeah? My greenified apps are Messenger, Facebook, Google Play Music (not what I use for music, I use SoundCloud or the stock player), Adobe Acrobat, es file explorer, and Instagram.
My phone, obviously, is rooted. I also have Xposed.
Apparently Tasker used to have a display sleep setting, I don't have it in mine. And all I can do in Secure Settings from what I see, is the wifi sleep policy, which tells me that it's already set to never go to sleep...
just add your music app to not optimized…

??? That doesn't really answer my question. The wifi connection drops every 15 minutes. While not a huge ordeal with a stock music player, it IS a big deal with SoundCloud (and Pandora, as I occasionally use, too).
Also, as the topic I posted in.... I'd prefer Tasker profile suggestions on how to do what I need it to do. Unless you say another potential reason you think is the cause, and why.
I'm open to build.prop editing as well IF you know what works.

I'm in a similar situation as yourself with Tidal app - did you ever find a working solution?
