Tapped Out - Is it just me? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love this phone. It's everything I could want and more. I couldn't wait to get it when I did.
But, I have a question.
I've noticed (every day) that there's some pretty bad lag in The Simpsons Tapped Out. Is it just me? This is really the only game I play (because it sucks my battery down seemingly 10%/10-20 mins) but the lag is awful.
On my Kindle Fire there's no issue at all. Scrolls around my town like butter. I would have thought that it would be as good or better on the Nexus, but thus far I've suffered through.
Does anyone else play this game that can tell me if it happens for them too? Is there something I should change? I'm stock rooted. Tried both stock and BenzoCore kernels (not sure if it's a kernel thing) but so far no love.

I have the same. Sometimes it even force close. On my tablet, Asus memopad 10 or my previous phone, Sony xperia z. There is no lag at all.

At least it's not just me. I wonder why it's happening, though. This phone is far more powerful than the Kindle Fire so it shouldn't be having these issues.

I used it for about five minutes and it lagged the heck out of my phone. Like, my phone became nearly unusable. A lot of people like it though, so apparently I'm an exceptional case.

Strange it is one of the only Live wallpapers that does not cause the phone to lag.
been using this for awhile. the only thing I don't like is that you have to reset your presets after you reboot. for me at least
This is brilliant. Really smooth on my NS and I like the customisation options.

Yea u need a phone with cojones to run this. Not every phone would run it smooth. I tried it on my evo and scrolling was terrible ...on my NS it doesn't affect anything. It runs like if Im not running a live wallpaper ..this phone is crazy or gingerbread? Or the hummingbird CPU? Or wtf? Lol

Same here. I tried it on my Nexus One and although it was still perfectly usable there was a noticable lag to the scrolling and app drawer. The gpu on the S makes a lot of difference I think.
I have a Nexus S. Stock 2.3.1 unrooted. I guess I should have mentioned that, I just didn't bother since it's in the Nexus S forum. >.>
Or better yet, I should get one of those fancy technical signatures where people describe in too-much detail their current phone and phone history.

Touch effects, like touch the screen, and a new stream shoots out or something like that (sort of like the nexus LWP)
Sure is pretty. And smooth. But a little busy for me. Am I missing it or is there not a way to customize colors? Would love just white particles.

This live wallpaper rocks, I like the undertow style. Doesn't slow down the Nexus S at all which is the best part. Only thing that kinda sucks is a shorter battery life but not by much.

HP Touchpad- Is it a good tablet?

Looking at trading my PS Vita due to non-use for an HP Touchpad with dual boot -32 GB. Is there anything I can't do with the tablet- like netflix, skype, or any android apps that don't work? Sorry for such a noob question!

The camera doesn't work in android. I don't know if Skype is available for webos. If you look in themes and app thread there are workarounds for a lot of apps.

Skype works perfectly in Webos. Plus there is a good app for changing boot order and time delay amongst many other things give it a try . I mainly use nightly but do go back to Webos for Skype and a couple off other apps.
Have fun :good:
I haven't been able to get Osmos to work, though others have. Other than that and the above-mentioned camera, it's a great tablet. (Admittedly, it would be easier to just buy a tablet built for Android like the $200 Nexus, but since you seem to have a situation where it's a one-for-one trade, it's still a great tablet.)

i freakin HATE 4.2

Since updating to 4.2, my screen brightness keeps going up and down from moment to moment, things generally run a bit slower, the lock screen is buggy and Quickoffice can no longer save changes to files. Not exactly a forward step.
Same here buddy, lockscreen takes a long time to respond

Google released a bad update, I don't know why people yell at others for being upset. We didn't see threads like this at all for 4.11 or 4.12. Its obvious that Google obviously needs to work on this as people don't post threads like this for no reason.

If it was really a bad update, why doesn't it affect everyone? I have a stock locked tablet, and simply flashed Google's factory image.. No issue whatsoever!

I have almost only good experiences with the 4.2, generally feel more stable and haven't noticed any sluggish behaviour. Only problem Im having is with bluetooth, it won't remember profile selections for my paired devices. So everytime I connect to my phone for internet access I need to go and tick internet access under profiles

The majority of people come here for solid technical advice, and some of this discussion hardly inspires confidence. We also need confidence in Google as we have invested in their product and it is perfectly legitimate to raise concerns about the 4.2 update that they pushed to our devices
If you use Bluetooth, for example to tether, then you will have been thrown by the changes to the interface. It was not obvious how to connect, and is actually quite inconsistent in that clicking the device name disconnects which is different to what's needed to connect.
One of the advantages the Nexus has over the Mini is the 16:10 screen great for widescreen movies. It's no surprise then that loss of USB mount (a feature available when many of us decided to buy the Nexus) has hit us hard. Yes there is a paid App which might allow movie streaming but I use the USB to extend storage for the huge game files we must download and so this is a major loss.

Screen brightness is an isolated issue I suspect not caused directly by Android, as most people don't see it.
Everything runs just as fast as 4.1.
Quick Office has a coding problem, not Android.
Stop.
I have only seen 1 real bug in 4.2 and that's the missing December bug.

It is most certainly NOT as fast for me, just because it is ok on your device please don't assume everyone else's is the same!
I actually love 4.2. A little lag here and there, but I owned a Huawei Ascend with like a 500 mHz processor, a Samsung Sidekick 4G with a 1 gHz processor, and a Kindle fire. Seriously Google isn't perfect (but they are damn close) they released an update you don't like, does that mean you should cry and hit the new thread button? No, it means you should just flash 4.1.2 and save server space. Especially when there are 100 other topics exactly as useless as yours. We don't need more of them.

Has nothing to do with Prism, the heuristics on the backlight seems to allow it to ramp up and down faster than it did before. In fact before the N7 seemed to be very stubborn to change levels, now it's a little too fast perhaps.
No matter what version or ROM I'm using I don't use automatic brightness. I use the lowest setting and adjust when I need to.

Hating it and loving it ? - wow these are strong words for an OS. Just like W8 people just can't work out whether its the cool thing to be for it or against it yet even though there's no need to take sides or feel possessive about it - we're all here just users equally dependant upon the working of Google aren't we?
One sure thing though - bugs will iron out but things like the way Bluetooth works now and the loss of USB mount are major hits for those of use dependant on those features for the last 4 months.
USB mounting was never part of 4.1... why are people suggesting it was? You needed root and stickmount or a custom ROM.
Stickmount will update eventually. Stop blaming Google for breaking something they never supported in the first place.

I Love This Freakin' Thing...

Been an N7 owner for months and it's been a freakin' delight. It has exceeded my (demanding) expectations and has earned the #1 spot for my go-to device whenever I need to do anything online, or do anything digital for that matter. My Galaxy Nexus sits on my desk relegated to it's role as a phone, and my laptop is almost never used at all.
I run it bone stock, locked and un-rooted. It's fast, reliable and a hands-down joy to use. When I think that I paid $199 for it, it just broadens my smile just a bit more.
Just wanted to spread a little love here.
Agreed 100%. I still use my gnex alot because the screen is just a pleasure to look at.
Only downside is the lack of color calibration, mines a little yellowish.
I ordered the dock from the play store and it will be here today so in sure I'll just use it more now.
Def root it. Easy and the ROMs out are awesome.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I gotta say.. Paranoid Android made me love my N7 that much more.
Another agree ...rooted but mostly stock 4.2.2 ..the IPad sits idle most of the time.. I did install Hosts and have root explorer, etc.
I have been all over rooting my GNex - right from the start - and it still is, running a great ROM, latest radios, etc.
But, my N7 remains untouched and for some reason, I like it that way. I use Nova to provide a little customization from a launcher perspective, but otherwise, there's nothing else I am jonesin' for.
Never thought that a tablet would provide any utility for me, especially since I have such a cool customizable phone with a big screen, and a laptop for when I need that bigger screen with a keyboard. But somehow, the N7 squeezed in there and bumped 'em both out of that space.

Forgot to mention...
Besides my Gnex and laptop being relegated to 2nd and 3rd string status as my go-to devices, I've noticed that I also fire-up my TV much less.
Even though I can watch all the shows I want on my laptop, there's something about the 7" size of the N7 that makes it the perfect thing to grab when I want to park on the couch and watch a show. Frankly, I never thought I would even use a tablet this much, and if the N7 wasn't such a freakin' joy to use, I def would still sitting with my laptop.
Did I say?

I too am surprised at how much I love this thing (32Gb purchased locally) I need almost nothing else for consumption. Since I've gotten a hold of this thing all I've really used my PC for is transcoding movies to copy over to the Nexus 7.
The other surprise is how well it works as a Kindle. Why anyone would buy the Amazon branded tablet is a mystery to me. I haven't so much as touched my second gen 6" Kindle in over a month.
I just wish it had infrared...

I also have a N7 and love it as well
I run completely stock like you
However, with wugfresh
It's a 1-click to unlock
And another click to root
Furthermore both can be undone with 1 click as well
But just being able to make a nandroid backup alone is enough reason to root
Plus there are several "must have" apps for rooted devices only
So I strongly suggest you reconsider
Run stock... But too easy not to root
I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0)
I have to say the color seems so much better
But there's nothing like a Nexus :victory:
AW: I Love This Freakin' Thing...
The N7 is definitely a best buy. I have the 16GB version. Sure, vibration would be nice for gaming, but I don't really mind. A better camera would also be nice, but, hey! The only alternative I would consider would be the 32GB UMTS (?) version.
just got my nexus 7 a week ago this past friday and i love the thing mine is unlocked and rooted but runs the stock os i have stick mount and a otg cable so i can more memory along with mx player which is a great player

I figured out the issue. The game doesn't seem to like 220 DPI
The one thing I've noticed and I've noticed this on my old Nexus 7 as well as my iPad Mini (Retina). If I go to multiple sectors, it start to slow down the rate at which it shoots. I have to exit out, close out the app and reopen the app.
Could someone do me a favor and try installing and playing this game after they upgrade to Lollipop? A friend upgraded his Nexus 5 to Lollipop and the game wouldn't play on his phone afterwards.
