Does anyone change their DPI's for something much lower?
I tend to find the one thing that bugs me about Sense is the overly enormous size of the fonts in system, contacts, the dialer etc. The font sizes throughout Sense don't seem very consistent compared to stock aosp.
Just curious to know what kind of DPIs folks have set for their best system sizes/layouts etc.
Only problem changing DPI is it tends to mess up the sense launcher, or least that's what I have found.

Does anyone know how (if it's possible) to have certain apps default to their Honeycomb layout on the Note? Gmail, Google Music, and Pulse are my biggest wants when comes to having the Honeycomb layout on my Note.
I think I may have figured out the answer to my own question. If I remember correctly, I doubt that the API of 2.3.x supports the "tablet" features of apps designed with Honeycomb in mind.
Maybe this will change once we get ICS though!
Well.. Netflix App is layed out like a tablet...
Some apps use two parameters to determine if to layout as tablet o as phone..
One is the resolution.. Like, I believe, Netflix. A WXGA resolution is almost always a tablet resolution. So the app will layout out as it..
The other parameter is screen pixel density... The Note comes predefined at a 320 dpi, which is a High Pixel Density (hpdi) as seen in apps. The galaxy Tab 10.1, for example has listed a 149 dpi which is either low (lpdi) or medium (mpdi).
So the apps which have a lpdi or mdpi layout defined in code (for Tablets) can show like that.
You can actually change the dpi value that apps "read" from the device by rooting it and with some apps like LCD Resolution (or changing the required file in /system)..
So while the Note has ~300dpi, apps (and Home, and app drawer, and all) will show as ~200 or whatever number you want..
I changed mine to 240dpi to take advantage of the High Resolution and read more onscreen (instead of just view a higher pixel density for icons).. and apps like Opera Mini show as a tablet...
-----------------------------
Of course there are just a few apps running on gingerbread and with tablet layouts.. This will all change a lot with the ICS update in March; and we will be able to view Tablet layouts for a lot more apps..
I agree the Note doesn't use the whole potential of such huge screen software wise. All apps work in phone mode not in tablet mode. Changing screen resolution helps a lot with certain apps but then it gets really hard to use the UI which gets also smaller. I wish there was a way to change screen resolution for specific apps while leaving the rest at default resolution but i already know this is technically not possible at all. I hope our Notes could reach their full potential with next official ICS update ... I'm already looking forward to flash it !
Personally I'm just hoping that ICS will bring the best of both worlds really. Just waiting for a stable release of CM9 baby!
Hi guys, I am currently on ICS Stunner and in settings>display there is an option to change font size, which i set to small and is perfect for the note screen.
I can't find a similar option on any of the Samsung ICS roms i have tried, meaning fonts are HUGE and does no justice to the note's screen size or resolution.
Is there any way to manually change the font size without changing overall screen density?
I really want my s-pen features back and this is the only thing that's keeping me on AOSP.
Spare parts doesn't change overall font size, best thing i've found is https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDIxMiwib3JnLnBieGVzLmZvbnRzaXplIl0
My problem with this app is that it doesn't support custom fonts (or so the comments seem to suggest) and i think i read somewhere that this app just installs the default font at varying sizes, something which i could do myself in a few minutes without spending money on a useless app.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: I have also seen this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.bfont&hl=en but it seems to have odd bugs on the Note.
Anyone know why font sizes are messed up in the TW JB Roms?
System fonts, and fonts within system apps are huge (in Settings or Messaging for example) so I set them to Tiny to make them a more reasonable size - however this leaves me with extremely small fonts within other apps?
From what I can tell even the Tiny Setting is roughly the same as Large on ICS.
Is there a fix?
[Apologies I mean TW JB Roms in the title]
So i use my One to play loudspeaker music quite lot round the house while doing various things like cooking, housework etc.
I have played around with many, many custom Roms, as there are 3 things that i really want my One to be:
Minimilistic - i'm talking transparent docks, transparent folders, etc
Lower DPI - make the most of that big screen
Good sound - like beats does it
This is my issue, i can not seem to get all 3 in one place, i prefer Sense, but cant get a good 380 DPI system wide solution - i moved to non-sense and found i was close with Slim Rom, i had the DPI and all the transparent goodies but for the life of me, with codec downloads and all sorts i just couldn't get the sound to be anywhere near as good and deep as Beats provided on the Sense ROM's.
Has anyone managed to get Beats like sound on a non-sense rom?
And secondly - i cant get transparent folders on Sense - i mean the actual folder background while the folder is 'closed' and still on the homescreen....
Any help to either problem greatly appreciated

viperone lets you change your dpi but your going to need to use a different launcher cos sense really doesn't like change. viperone also lets you have transparent folders on your homescreen.
I have currently CM12.1 rom installed on the Fire thanks to ggow and everyone else who made is possible and loving it. The default font seems ok because of the low res display. Has anybody any font suggestions for better font readability (like better hinting or something). I know the display is kind of weird on this one, it appears that it squezzes the display in vertical mode and expands it on the landscape mode.
Only seen people mention changing the dpi to get it to look better, hadn't thought about simply changing fonts.

I tried Segoe UI Semilight (Don't hate on me just because it is Microsoft related, Segoe is my favorite font ever.), but it was very skewed and not clear at all. I have to agree with you that the default font is the best for it in all honesty.
i'd stick to chaging the dpi setting, it will look less as a tablet and more like a phone but the overall experience es better. and let's be honest, with 1024x600 it's better this way. i currently have mine set to 200dpi
