the post says it all. i am a noob when it comes to bionic and want to free up my memory (internal) what would be the EASIEST way to accomplish this?directions please with sugar on top.
Root Explorer... navigate to /system/app.
I always make a folder on my SD like "SystemApps" then I move what I don't want out to that folder as opposed to just deleting them, just in case I find out something is acting weird or needed.
"Some" of the bloat can be uninstalled via the built in App Manager also.

This really should not be in the development section. Until we have a way to back everything up via recovery the only way you can do anything like that is through rooting and using Titanium backup. You can either freeze or uninstall any app. I would not uninstall anything without backing it up first. All I have done is freeze some bloatware so I do not have to see it in the app list. You can really f up your phone if you remove the wrongs stuff. A there is a list somewhere of which apps you can freeze without issues.

THIS!!!
I am no where near an expert as some of the Devs in these forums, but I went through a lot of ROMs on my old Eris. Every time, though, I had a Nand backup to go to if/when I screwed up.
Now that I have a nice, new, shiny Bionic I will not root until there is an SBF to allow a return to stock. Yep, people like P3Droid, and others, have successfully rooted and debloated. All it takes, though, is some little glitch, power spike or otherwise, to screw things up. Actually, reading a few forums there are more than a few that have already bricked or really hamstrung their $600 phone by just rooting and borking around trying to debloat.
Patience people. Within 2, 3, 4 weeks I'm sure one of our Dev wizards will have a failsafe method ... WITH BACKUP RESTORE CAPABILITIES.
I just group up my apps to eliminate viewing the bloat. My phone is fine. Fools rush in, for sure.
On a side note: I've seen a couple people mention on other forums that they have bricked their phones and committed fraud by returning their smoldering remnants back to Verizon. Slackers.

I'm guessing Titanium Backup. But here's my question.... Is it safer to 'freeze' bloatware instead of moving it into a new folder on your SD card?
As long as you don't delete it when you move it then either option is good from my experience worth moto phones

Ok I have done both renamed bloat files .bak and moved them into their own folder in my sdcard , my question is how do I free up internal memory? When I do either of those sure it removes then from my application drawer but it doesn't free up any memory?

You may have uninstalled the Yahoo contacts. You can find a System App dump from here: http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/tbh-discussion-forum/9081-droid-bionic-system-dumps-partial.html

It's always safer to freeze the bloatware. This way if your phone starts to act up, all you have to do is defrost whatever you froze.
That did the trick thanks Idk why Yahoo is tired to that process.

I know this is opinionated, but what apps are bloatware? Let's say I have all the apps I want to use already on a backup and I am starting the Bionic clean. What can I uninstall or move that won't mess up the phone?
There is a list of files ok and not ok to delete at androicentral.com check it out great source.

How else would someone use rooted apps?
Titanium backup, adaway, even cerburus offers better protection on rooted devices.
Maybe you want to do a nandroid backup, flash ROMs, kernels, tweaks etc

I tried that a while ago. He said "android already does that, when I logged in it downloaded all my apps" i tried explaining that he had to download them and with titanium backup it saves your settings and everything and you don't need data, but he didn't listen saying he was on WiFi and something else. And he says he's okay with the virus protection 4.2 offers.
I just figured out why its useless talking to him though. He's a iSheep. He only has a nexus 7 and 4 because Google gave them to him.

I'm tired of flashing ROMs, after a G1, Vibrant, Galaxy Tab and GS2. I'm currently happy enough with proper unskinned, pure Android on my N7 & N4. I don't feel compelled to root either one. It sounds like some of you think that makes me a bad person! LOL
My old Galaxy Tab is on CM9, used by my 7 y.o. son. The GS2 is on CM10, used by my 12 y.o. daughter. I consider both more imperfect combinations than 4.2 on my Nexxi. Great, best options for their hardware, but the Nexxi are superior. My daughter wants an N4 when they're back in stock. I now want a N10 to complete the trifecta.

yah its user preference. Some people get tired of flashing ROMs, like myself and in the end of the day I just want phone to work reliably. BUT i am rooted!
I love the aspect of custom kernels most. You can improve performance, battery life or even add features to the device.
Don't bother the guy into rooting. I've rooted since my Og moto droid. Back then you wanted more performance or features that didn't come stock. Aosp has hit a point where I don't need to root anymore. So many Roms out there that claim its been optimized, zipalinged , faster this and that battery this and that. It always ended up buggier than **** days later. Rooting takes time, research, more time.
4.2 has everything I need. I don't need ti because I don't need to wipe my phone. There are no preinstalled apps I need to get rid of. Tethering is included.
Android is about choice. Please don't label someone an isheep because they are happy with what they have.
Root is 1 file. Why not?
Modify clock speed
Modify the screen colors(Voodoo i think)
Performance gains(ext4, jit, etc)
Fix Bugs in stock Rom
Can fix compatibility with apps
Remove Bloatware if exists
Access to Root apps like ChainFire 3D
Titanium backup
Don't need anymore reason
Hi all,
My first post, and as of yesterday my first custom ROM. Despite some sweaty moments it worked fine thanks to the guidance on this forum and some leaps of faith Can't reply to the relevant thread directly since I'm n00b.
Was very happy with this, however one killer issue that's meant I've had to revert to stock is that Google Talk (installed via GApps link with the ROM) crashes to desktop (no FC dialog) when i attempt to use voice or video within it. Skype seems to work fine though. Anyone else experienced this? I haven't seen it previously reported on here which makes me think maybe I didn't clear something properly (I used cwm recovery 5.5.0.4 to wipe cache, factory reset and clear dalvik prior to flash). I tried repeating the entire upgrade twice from scratch but same issue is still apparent.
Thanks for the coolness and hopeful for some help and further development.

Hey.
You're not the only one. I have the same issue with Google Talk. I, like you, thought that I wasn't installing something right. I even went as far as using an outdated gapps package, namely 20120726, to no avail. If you've gotten help with this, please let me know. Otherwise, I have no idea what else to do. I don't want to revert to stock because, quite frankly, its terrible. Also, to anyone else reading this, any help would be appreciated.
Try uninstalling talk after you've flashed the Rom and then reinstalling it. Had a similar problem with Google search.

I'm not familiar with Google talk, is it the same as voice. To uninstall you'll need tibu or something like that.

Hey, I just want to thank you for your response. Its been a big help. Unfortunately, google talk isn't the same as voice. Its the chat client that is found in gmail and stuff. As far as 3G, my tablet is the WiFi only, so I can't help you there.
With the usb, have you tried turning on the MTP setting? When you connect the tablet, go to settings>storage> and in the upper right hand side of the screen, if you press on the 3 dot things, you are going to see USB computer connection. press that and you will see the option to turn on MTP. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies, glad to know I'm not alone with g talk. Finally got stock ics ota but it's terrible! Prime example is Swype keyboard often appears the size of a credit card. Going back to cm as soon as talk fixed also had the USB issue but didn't try the workaround

sweet! yeah keep us posted. It would be great to hear there is a fix of some sort.
I'm rooted (VZW) and use most of the Xposed modules. I woke up this morning and tried to use touchless controls. Didn't work so I did some investigating. Noticed it was turned off so I turned it on. Didn't work. Rebooted then noticed that reboots turned touchless control off. I tried Google now and while it worked, I didn't hear the usual sound that plays once it's acknowledged "Google". From there I noticed I had no sound whatsoever. Bluetooth was on. I turned it off, sound came back but not touchless controls.
Last night I remembered trying to install themed Google keyboards. While it worked, it took uninstalling the stock Google keyboard, installing the one from Google play, uninstalling Google play version, then installing the themed apk. I had since backed up all my apps, meaning I've written over the stock keyboard. Now I don't really think this would effect touchless controls, since I can't seem to fix them, I figured I'd factory reset and see what happened. Unfortunately, it doesn't work through settings. Just reboots my phone. Any ideas? I've yet to try it through a stock recovery or something similar. I've yet to find answers on how that works on this phone (actually haven't searched yet).

If you rooted using PwnMyMoto then it has overwritten the stock recovery. Basically it writes an Android system without write protection on the recovery partition when you root. You will have to flash stock recovery back and then a factory reset will work.

Please, butt in! I'm hoping to avoid going to stock recovery. Which I'm assuming requires unrooting. I was also having sound issues. No sound until I went into settings and went through ring tones. None would work, no sound. Until I cleared settings from recents and then went back into it and tried again. Then it would work. I began deleting all root apps. It was a module within Xposed. Not sure which but now sound works as it should. I've since deleted all root apps but still haven't fixed touchless controls. It almost seems as if the microphone for touchless isn't working? Aren't there two microphones on this device?

So you've removed Xposed and all modules? Have you rebooted the system since removing them? If I were in your position, I would want to completely unroot and start fresh because if it's a problem with the microphone, it's covered under warranty and you need to get a replacement.
You can follow this tutorial to return to stock, just make sure you download the correct version for your phone. If you're familiar with adb and fastboot, it may be easier to just fastboot flash recovery and system and that should return you to 100% stock unrooted.

Yes, rebooted so much thought I was going to wear out the power button lol. I've switched to my G2 to prepare to go to stock on the X. Was just hoping to avoid going to the VZW store, I really hate dealing those people. Loathe it.
I'm familiar with adb. Just need a good internet connection. I have to use hotspot for internet where I live and while we have TWRP on the G2, no bypass on wireless tether. I thought about trying the method I used on the X but I'm not savvy enough to know if that'll break something. .bak isn't always a sure thing.
Did you have a link to the stock file? I can search it but it looked like in your post you had it.
Edit: all these new phones forgot about the S4. There's my hotspot.

Not sure if it will work being that your phone took the update. But try un rooting the phone, then update thru a computer. Then reroot phone.
Just for future use, before doing stock updates always un root the phone first, back to its factory set up.
Lots of rooted phones have issues do to trying the OTA updates while rooted and more then half the times have issues afterwards cause their rooted OS is missing original software that the update requires.

Please explain to me how you think that rooting the G Flex will cause it to lose any original software.

You seriously don't know how rooting would effect the stock software, if a custom UI or modified OS is placed onto the rooted phone?

Just an update. I did a factory reset yesterday and it seems to have fixed the issue. I have received a few MMS today with no issue. My group message seems to be working again as well. Thanks for your responses.

Rooting doesn't take away any of the stock software, installing a custom UI and modifying the OS is something completely different from attaining root. Seriously.

And the purpose of gaining root? I doubt its just the purpose of having a rooted phone.
Seriously...... If all you and your little buddy can do is question other people, instead of answering the questions at hand then maybe this isnt the forums for you boys.

Getting defensive the way that you are, and labeling us as "boys" is a pretty good indication that you aren't capable of holding a discussion here.
