Note 5 SCREEN Freeze problems - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Phone has been fine until I did a system update. Now it consistently freezes but the capacitive buttons and everything work except for actually registering screen taps.
Phone was frozen, then pulled out the pen and it seems as when it freezes it can't pick up finger responses but will still register the spen.
Sammobile talks about here. http://www.sammobile.com/2015/09/28/heres-how-to-fix-the-screen-freezing-bug-on-your-galaxy-note-5/
I tried what they suggested and cleared cache but it's still happening.
Anyone else with this issue? Note 5 64gb United States Sprint

I've got the same issue. The pen works but the finger doesn't. If I turn the screen off for a few minutes then it'll start working normally. I'm going to try out the fix you posted. Fingers crossed.

My device is affected by exactly same issue. Did you solve the problem? How?

[Q] Touchscreen randomly stops working when rooted.

Hi,
I have a problem whit my Samsung Galaxy Note. When ever I have rooted my phone, the touch screen randomly stops working. It seems to happen whenever I come near the proximity sensor during the time when I make a call. I know that it is used to dim/lock the screen during the call but it seems that the touchscreen system chrashes at that point and stays in that locked mode. After a reboot everything is fine untill it randomly happens again.
When such thing happens, the stylus is working but the finger touch is not reckognized anymore. The strange thing is that when I unroot my phone everything seems to work fine.
And that is a bummer because I cannot sent it for replacement because everything seems to work fine when my phone is stock/unrooted.
The phone is brand new, got it last saturday.
Is there any one who has heard of this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Jeffrey

Capacitive button worries

So on Monday I went out and got a shiny new Turbo. I'm loving it so far and hoping for root and or bootloader unlock eventually. This morning though something odd happened. For a period of about ten seconds my capacitive buttons quit working completely - no vibrate when I touched them, no nothing. The phone wasn't frozen or anything. Then they suddenly started working again. About five minutes later it did it again, but it hasn't done it since. Should I be worried? What should I do?
I'm having the exact same issue, seems to be random.
Ok I have the Moto Maxx and noticed that too... then I figured that in my case it happened because I was touching the screen with my palm while tying to reach for the capacitive buttons. The buttons stop working while you are touching the screen. Check if that is what is happening to you.

I've even had it do that if there is any liquid on the screen...like maybe a few small drops of water after you just washed your hands or something like that.
Does the proximity sensor disable the buttons? Thinking that if the phone thinks it is near your face for a call, it might shut off the screen and buttons to prevent accidental presses.

They will automatically dim and turn off when in a well lit area/room. If you are in a dark environment they will always be on.
Just hold the device under a lamp and watch buttons dim slowly off. Turn lamp off or go to a dark room and watch them illuminate back to life after 8-10 seconds.
Pretty standard, however, if they are going on and off constantly in the dark, than most likely a defective unit.

I'm pretty sure this is what happened to me, after playing around with it I noticed my phone does the same thing. That's a load off my chest, I was a bit worried about it. thanks!
Screen pinning vs Long press for menu
Just a note, I recently discovered that if you have lollipop screen pinning enabled under the security settings and also the "Use long press for menu" setting enabled under display settings, they seem to conflict and cause all kinds of key lag with any of the capacitive keys. Must be because both utilize a long press of the recents/overview key. As long as you only enable one or the other it should be fine. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
I have had this problem too, it simply has to do with the fact that the screen is and capacitive keys are combined. You can use one or other, but not both. If you encounter this, just mess around on the screen for a few seconds and the keys should work again.
Clear cache. That usually fixed the problem for me.

Fingerprint Scanner Issue

Has anyone noticed a issue with the fingerprint scanner just not working? I have had it twice. I have a friend on a S8+ with the same issue. It requires a restart to fix it.
Yeah, it happened to mine when I went to the gym. My phone was a little wet from sweat and it would not work. A quick reboot fixed it. A little annoying, something that will hopefully get squashed.
I had this issue for a few days, but I don't think I've had issues after I updated. Since I updated, when I thought it wasn't going to work, I'd either slightly change my finger position or hold my finger on the sensor longer, and it would unlock. It's just a crap location lol.
I had the same issue. I did some research and found that dialing *#0*#, clicking on sensor, then scrolling to the bottom under FingerPrint test and clicking normal scan seems to have helped. I haven't had the issue since and it's been a few days.
I had to turn the swipe down for notifications w/ fingerprint to get it to work again.
Happened yesterday, after I touched it with a wet finger. Restart fixed it.
I am having the same issue

Unresponsive fingerprint sensor

Hey guys,
Recently, I've been having issues with my fingerprint sensor/unlock screen. Sometimes when I pull my phone out of my pocket and attempt to unlock the phone witht he fingerprint sensor, it won't respond. I then press the power button, which turns the screen on and when I use the fingerprint sensor, i can feel the vibration from the button but the screen does not unlock. There is also no fingerprint icon at the bottom. I can't unlock by swiping and putting in my password either. This eventually fixes itself after 30-45 seconds, but its really annoying when I want to use my phone. I've tried switching launchers, thinking that this might have been the problem, but this did not fix it.
I'm running stock OxygenOS 4.1.6, kernel [email protected] #1. I'm using the google launcher currently.
Its something to do with the light sensor cause i have it happen at night time when i am listening to podcasts in bed, it comes up to press one of the volume buttons and back to bypass it - but after 10 seconds it lets you unlock it anyway?
Pocket mode, try turning that off. Pocket mode uses the proximity sensor (I think) to detect whether it's in a pocket or not. If it is, then the fingerprint scanner will refuse to work so as to prevent accidental touches in the pocket
Turned it off last night. It's still happening. And it happens even when the phone is sitting on my desk. I go to try and unlock it and it won't respond.3
Delete and reset them. I find it happens after a month or so of use. I'm on Sultans marshmallow.
Originally when it happened I thought the ROM had gone bonkers and flashed back to stock. I missed the battery life too much on the CM13 build so I tried his marshmallow again. And guess what? It happed again. So I just deleted them and reset my fingerprints and voila! Snappy again.
Let me know if it works for you!
Just delete your current fingerprints and reset them. Should become snappy once again.
Happened to one of my friends and that's how I fixed it for him.
Cheers.
Never had issues with. Maybe you use it wrong side of finger, i mean you must unlock with you finger horizontally and not vertically finger

My phone has started acting wonky, not only with the finger print sensor but sometimes the touchscreen will become unresponsive, but I'll be able to turn the screen on or off. I'll have to try resetting tonight.

Lift to wake stops working periodically

I just picked up an XZ2 for a steal. So far I really like the phone, but one thing has really been nagging me. The lift to wake functionality works pretty well most of the time, but occasionally, it will just stop working completely. It's like the phone goes to sleep and stops recognizing the sensors or something. It doesn't happen after sitting for a long time, either. It actually happens right after I've been using it. Today, the screen timed out and went black and no matter how much I shook the phone, put it in my pocket and took it out, etc., it never worked again until I hit the power button.
Before someone suggests just hitting the power button or fingerprint sensor: You're missing the point. I shouldn't have to. It's bad enough that Sony took tap-to-wake from us and never gave it back. But I expect this feature to work consistently. Really, you should rarely, if ever, have to hit the power button. A similar feature on the iPhone works without fail almost 100% of the time.
I'm just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this. The phone is fresh out of the box, has the latest build (51.1.A.4.225) and was set up manually, not restored from a cloud backup. Has anyone else seen this?
Oh yes, it is one of three really small, miniscule bugs I've got with my XZ2. In my case, the lift to wake only stops working a few times and after I wake the phone manually, it works the way it should work again. But it only happens in those rare times.

Thanks. Yeah, it's annoying. The inconsistency drives me crazy. It seems to have something to do with the screen timeout.
I wish they would just give us proper tap to wake back.
