Hi to all,
Just bought my brand new Galaxy note on 30th dec 2011 & really enjoying it. It had 2.3.6 android with Kernel JPKK2. I rooted the Note today Successfully without any problems & t's working awesomely. I rooted it with Double Click windows method AKA Zerg Exploit the safest method to root without the binary counter being increased.
Just wanted to ask that I need ClockworkMod Recovery. How do I install clockwordmod recovery. Because it's the best software to get out of any mess & also a fail safe option if anything goes wrong..
Can any of U respected members Please help me in this. I would highly appreciate it.

Thans a lot dr.ketan for replying. I have read that many times but problem is that I have JPKK2 kernel & the CF-root kernal I download is only for kernel KK1 & not KK2 although in the post it says KK2/KK3/KK4/KK5. After I downloaded & unziped the file it says on the folder that Cf-root for kernel KK1.Can U please confirm the it that it can be used for the KK2 also as I don't wan't to make a mistake & Brick my Note. I will be waiting for reply ketan anxiously.
If i hav mention KK1/KK2 means, i hav confirm it by opinion of some other user. you can use it
Ok ketan. Thanks alot. I will report back soon. Thanks again for replying........
Thankyou THANKYOU THANK YOU THANKYOU...............................
Thank U so very much ketan. It works flawlessly. U r the best. Thanks alot for ur advices. U rock mate. U rock.
It just took me 10 seconds ;-)
Just 1 small question out of curiosity ketan if U wouldn't mind. After flashing the CWM recovery my kernal version has changed from JPKK2 to ZSKK1.
Rest is all the same.
My baseband version is N7000XXKK5
Build number is JPKK2
Anything to worry about ketan.........
Not at all to worry, b'coz it was developed by cf from kk1.
Thanks a lot ketan for clearing ;-) . Just checked in kies it still shows that I have
JPKK2 kernal. Thanks
ketan can u suggest any games that can be installed in NOTE ?????/
I already have Ripitde & Modern Combat 3 installed. But when I installed asphalt 6 it's not showing properly........
Really am not fonder of game much. But i hav installed 2-3 games. Download asphalt 6hd from samsung application, which is free for note, working flawlessly on my note with option -control a setting
Thanks ketan. Will do check out asphalt 6 from samsung.
When I tried installing CWM from Rom Manager App , there is no option for Galxy Note CWM , only Galaxy S2 ??
Why is that ? is it safe to install SGS2 CWM on the Note ? and what is the alternative ?

Hey Guys,
I have Galaxy note GT-N7000
android ver. : 4.0.3
I wanna know how could I update to jelly bean or at least ICS 4.4 if there is no official version of JB for Note yet,
I'm afraid that I heard that there is a problem with the Kernel or something like this in galaxy note that I can't update to newer version of andriod,
could you tell me please how to do this safely without any harm ?!!
Once you flash stock ROM for your area then you will be able to update with kies/OTA (once it released to your area)
But incase if you are on any other ROM there will be option to update with Odin.
stay tuned to XDA.
do you have a costum rom or are you planning to get a costum rom??
if that is the case you can use odin to flash a safe kernel and then flash an unofficial costum rom...search in the forum...
if you are on stock rom and you plan on staying on stock rom you will have to wait till it releases and you can download it once its released
the thing about the ICS being unsafe applies only if you're rooting or flashing a costum rom...other then that you should be fine as far as I know.
just out of curiosity why is everyone so eager to get on ics or jb??I am still on gingerbread and I don't exactly need to update...

I rooted ICS 4.0.4 by a way I found it in XDA forum and it is rooted safely but without CWM
about why i'm eager to get ICS or JB is that some people told me that it is better for battery usage , I'm not sure !!
Easiest way is flash safe kernel (Hydracore/speedmod) with Mobile odin.

You will remain same on ICS 4.0.4 by flashing this. But this is safe kernel, you will be safe from emmc brick bug, as well you can use its CWM to backup/restore nandroid, as well you can flash custom ROM.

i installed got brickbug app ,and it says : Danger this eMMC chip os known to have the brick bug !! after flashing the kernel
does that mean i still can't flash custom roms , factory reset or wipe on stock ICS 4.0.3 ?
After flashing safe kernel, you can safely wipe or hard reset.
And yes flash custom rom too, but before flashing custom rom you have to read instruction from custim rom thread op.

Hi ,
I am new to this forum , although i have been reading articles on this forum for months .
I am planning to flash my galaxy note , but have a few questions . (i did some research , but i am still short on some answers )
If anyone would be kind enough to answer my questions i would really appreciate it . (Currently i am on stock android rom + not rooted)
This is what i know : Phone = Hardware + Kernel + Rom .
I also know that we can either change the kernel or the Rom (and that ROM comes with its own kernel which we can change )
Now this is what i dont know and am looking for your help in finding the answers .
1. Can i only flash a new KERNEL on my Note while keeping the stock ROM ? and if YES , then can i at a future time be able to recieve Official smasung OTA updates ?
2. I know the benefits of custom Kernels namely : Performance , Better battery , highly customizable ,etc . But what i dont know are the demerits of custom KERNALS . ??
3. Last Question . If i do go ahead and ROOT and FLASH custom ROM on my phone , can i ever go back to factory settings ??
Please dont beat me , this is my first post . I WILL GET SMART WITH TIME
Well u have a nice question. I am also a newb, but what i know is that if u change ur kernel u wont be able to get the OTA.
Rooted but on stock rom will still offer u the OTA updates.
Well yes at anytime you can return back to stock.

1. Yes you can flash custom kernel on stock rom.. see dr ketan's guide in original Android development section of galaxy note..
You won't receive ota upgrades on a custom kernel.
2.No demerits of custom kernels.. for battery life with perfomamce i suggest speedmod kernel. For higher perfomance i suggest hydracore.
3. Yes you can go back to factory settings by flashing stock Samsung rom through odin.
I strongly suggest that you read dr ketan's guide.
Also remember never do a factory reset or wipe in stock kernel.

what do you mean when you say :: Also remember never do a factory reset or wipe in stock kernel ??
Also i looked up de ketan's guide . But that seems to be about stock rom's .Right ?
Right now i am just looking to install a new Kernal , in hopes that , that itself will provide a boost to the phone's performance and then if i like i will
install a custom rom as well.
Actually stock rom is unsafe for wipes because it may trigger the brick bug
For installing custom kernal u first have to root the note(many methods available)
For that the easiest method i feel is with philz kernal
U can see in dr ketan s rooting guide or philz thread
Then u can move to sppedmod or hydracore or anypther that u like
Plz read all instructions carefully so as to avoid bricking

Basically what you are saying is :
1. Root your phone (using any of the number of ways available)
2.Install custom Kernel as that helps to avoid brick bug when you try to wipe your phone for custom installation .
Also i have another question (yea i know my questions are never ending )
Where and why in all this does a custom recovery come in the picture ?? and why do we need it ? because i have read somewhere that we do .
thanks in advance
if u install a custom kernel like speedmod or hydracore ... it will override the stock recovery option ( vol up+power+home) 3e and install the powerful ClockWorkMod recovery ( same action). this recovery allows you to do a lot of tasks which the stock doesnt
main being taking a nandroid backup : backup ur entire working phone and restore it later when u want

The 3 kernels that you've mentioned are 3 of the best kernel for the note. Franco kernel was cancelled though, the dev decided to leave the note community. Your best bet would be the HydraCore kernel

i must say u r lucky this time but its been on XDA a million times that using these files can brick your phone. follow dr ketans signature for safest and easiest way to root.
1. if u have used there files to root u still will be on stock ics kernel and cannot do any backups. download philz kernel and flash it from recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
after this u will get CWM.. with this you can take a nandroid backup of ur rom and its a safe kernel for wipes as well
2. no flashing kernel will not have any effect on data or apps. but flashing ROMs do

Well Rooted the phone again . This time used philz kernel .
This is what I did
1. Restarted in stock recovery
2.Installed philz zip file from external sd card (it replaced my old SU and installed a custom kernel i guess)
3.Rebooted and working fine .
4 also started recovery again and CWM was installed this time ,
So , sofar everything is fine i guess .
Now should i take a nandroid backup and then install hydracore kernel ?
this is a safe kernel but still if u want to go for hydracore then ya. u can take a nandroid backup now. But b4 that go to backup and restore and set the default backup for may as tar

So i played a bit with my phone yesterday . took a nandroid backup first which came to be around 2.3 gb then flashed hydrokernel 5.4 non OC.
But strangely enough i felt there was a bit of lag in the phone after i flashed the hydracore kernel so i flashed philz lernel again and it worked fine .
today i have backed up my apps using titanium backup and now i am ready to experiment more .
I have 2 questions before i start flashing new ROM's though :
1. Can nandroid backup bring me back to where i am today no matter how big i screw up ?
2. Where do i store the titanium backup , because i assume that if i flash a new rom titanium will be deleted as well .. right ?

external sd. when u take backup. There is a folder created in the internal sd titanium backup. copy that folder to ur pc or ext sd and restore back after installation on new rom and tb.

Thanks ThaiDai I did think that, but;
- titanium backup; cannot acquire root privileges....
- busybox; problem opening shelllnwith root
- root checker; device does not have proper root access
- lucky patcher; no root access found
I feel that the problem is supersu as it cannot update SU binary and gives me a message "Installation Failed". It's the one that came with Ultimate Jellybean...
Any other suggestions to fix this issue will be appreciated....
Thanks
I messed up my leaked 4.1.1 JB on my note. Su was not updating binary but I had root, did a little research here and there and thought might be a good idea to install a fresh copy of Super SU from Google App, I went into SuperSu settings and chose clean up for fresh install from App store, SuperSu closed itself and I downloaded and installed fresh copy from Google apps. Bam, SuperSu say "No binary found and SuperSu can not install it". Titanium backup and root checker said no root. Tried to find a method but failed find one (may be I was not looking for a solution too hard.). Although I had CWMR.
Then decided to go back to ICS, Downloaded a fresh copy of ICS 4.0.3 and flashed using PC Odin, when everything was working fine I rooted ICS with Philz and then keis upgraded it to 4.0.4 and I lost root again . But same kernel.zip worked again and my Note was rooted again within few sec. Next day I found Super Nexus for Galaxy Note version 5. Downloaded it and flashed it along with 1 extra zip from same thread. I lost Philz CWMR but have root access. And ROM is working wonders. Good nice smooth and battery life is even better than ICS I think it is due to that Blob.zip I flashed as was advised in that thread.
So, if you can not find a safe method to root JB then go back to ICS and try again. or just try little harder.

Dont flash any hydracore kernels on JB leaks, hydracore is for ICS roms
I have few times on different roms, the same problem with root like you, but usualy i just installed solid explorer (when it is installed, jump to root directory) it will prompt you that you dont have installed busybox. So install that busybox from market. Open it choose install again. And after that reboot your phone.
I dont realy know what caused this, but i do not care, because installing solid explorer is one of the steps after flashing new rom :silly:

Alternatively, bit more hassle, but,
There's a very handy app called Framaroot in the Apps and Games section which should *theoretically* root any 2.3.6 for our phone. I don't know whether BUJVG would be supporte, although I don't see why not.
Use that to root, then download Semaphore GB and SGS kernel flasher, both in these forums. Install SGS kerne flasher, flash Semaphore GB (or any other GB kernel that could perhaps support your firmware, last time I checked kernels were firmware specific. So you may have to do a bit of digging around to see if there's a kernel that supports all.)
If not, try find a CWM flasher (and don't use ROM manager on Play Store, that's not very helpful...) of some kind.
Bit more hassle, and considering your phone's firmware seems to be localised and not a more generic firmware it may not work, but hey, worth a shot.
If that doesn't work, follow the guide compacity posted.

Go here and flash the GIngerbread Semaphore kernel, you will get root and CWM or use framaroot app, if you only want root.
Check this out! You , YES! you are an " Android ". Not your phone but U.

you don't have to root first, you can flash the JVU ROM and CF Root, to get Root and CWM at one go.

the downloads are listed for you on that link, you need to read and comprehend it, if you are flashing the JVU ROM, the kernel is already attached with it, if you want to flash the kernel only already mentioned earlier download gingerbread semaphore kernel latest version will do.
