I'm attempting to mount the xbin folder to copy over a file into it (sqlite3) and am unable to. When I attempt to mount R/W in Root Explorer nothing happens. If I copy the file directly and attempt to mount from the prompt Root Explorer states that the copy failed. I've even attempted chmod and that also fails.
I did a clean install of Marshmallow, flashed TWRP 2.8.5.0, flashed ElementalX-N6-2.03 kernel, then SU Beta 2.49. Root Checker tells me that I have root access and busybox is installed properly.
As a test I tried all of the above on other folders such as bin and that failed as well. I've attempted copying sqlite3 in TWRP over to bin (couldn't find xbin in the file manager) and it said successful, but doesn't show when I boot back up. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

ElementalX hasn't got the R/W protection removed. You'll have to use Hellscore (or maybe some others) until the protection is removed in Ex. It is next on the list for that Kernel I thin.

Thanks! That resolved the mounting problem but for some reason copying over the file still fails. I even chmod 0777 on xbin and it won't copy. Hmm.

Convert or uninstall unnecessary Google apps in /system the free space on stock /system is only about 2mb, this was one of the reasons I initially couldn't install layers.

Hey, I'm on Hellscore kernel and I cant mount system as R/W either. I am having exactly the same issues as OP. I cant edit the build.prop or change layers. I got one layers theme to work but I cant change it since I cant uninstall it from /system. Any idea?

Yes, I have root explorer. When I hit the button nothing happens. I downloaded the app called Mount /system and when I hit the button to mount it in there it tells me my device may not be rooted or compatible. In terminal emulator when I type su the $ changes to #, and in supersu everything has the proper root rights so I know my root is working.
I guess I should also mention that I am running the xTraSmooth 6.0 rom that came pre rooted with the hellscore kernel. I flashed it from stock M after flashing TWRP.

I've been looking through the thread for the rom and some other people had the same issue. They reflashed the rom and it seemed to fix it for some reason. So I'm going to try that in a bit and see how it goes.

Ignore the installation commands, you need to boot in to recovery and push the hosts file to /system/etc/ on the phone.
Adfree works fine. The reason it doesn't work on slide has nothing to do with the app. The hosts file goes in /system/etc/ and since we don't have r/w access to /system, the app can't do what's its supposed to do. It works great I used it the whole time I had a G1, its just cus your phone isn't PROPERLY rooted. Neither is anyone elses til we get that SPL...
Til then you gotta adb push the file thru recovery...
I dunno if you know this, but adfree temporarily d/l's the hosts file to your sdcard, then deletes it when its done. But since it couldn't replace the file on my slide, it left it on the sdcard! All you gotta do is run the app and wait for it to error out, then go get the file and put it on your pc and adb push to /system/etc...

Actually, its rooted just fine (you can run anything you want as uid 0). The SPL security has nothing to do with root.
It is like saying you don't have the proper key to a door just because after you open it there is a guard standing there not letting you in to the next room.
Just being picky...
i think what he meant is that with all the other phones most of us have had we had an SPL to flash once we had done the original tweaks(or before on some phones) so as of right now i agree that the phone is not rooted properly yet as i don't have full control over the phone whenever i want, i want to be able to mv stuff to system partition from android terminal
just being picky...
could anyone please post the actual commands? im new to adb and wold really appreciate the help adfree is the entire reason i even rooted
among others but it was the number one
adb push hosts /system/etc

thank you so very much
Other than removing a few of the stock apps, this is one of the things I'm looking forward to rooting for, I loved it on my G1.
With all of the folks having so much trouble rooting this sucker though, I may wait awhile.
it said this
' failed to copy 'hosts' to '/system/etc': Permission denied '
and if i type su it asks for a password and if i try to run in root it says that production models wont run in root
but i rooted and have the superuser permissions apk installed and has granted me permission to other things

same thing happened to me. but as falken mentioned before, you have to make sure the system is mounted before running the command. so..
boot into recovery.
go to 'partitions'.
select 'mount /system'.
run adb command "adb push hosts /system/etc".
reboot system.
*you might wanna might wanna be sure the comp sees the device in recovery before running the command via "adb devices". i do this before i do any adb'ing.
*be sure the hosts file is in the root of your sdk directory, otherwise your command will vary.

BINGO! Thanks!!!
I've done a fair amount of research and am still having trouble getting this installed on an emulated device. I have tried the base adt-sdk images for 4.1.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2 none of which I was able to attain the same "rooted" functionality as a phyical device. Most of the threads I read were a lot like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731095
Xposed always gives me the following error: "Failed to get root access. Make sure your device is root properly and you have not blocked shell commands."
When I
Code:
adb shell
into the device I have [email protected], so I have access to root. The su binary is in both /system/bin and /system/xbin. I have also tried remounting the /system partition as rw, but nothing seems to help.
I'm not sold on any particualr version of android as long as it is >=4.1.2. I know some SELinux stuff came in at 4.3.
Any help you could offer would be great,
Thanks!
It worked flawlessly for me using Genymotion. I'm guessing you're using the normal Android emulator - apps won't get root on that directly and I'm not familiar with it.
You could, however, manually replace the necessary files. I'd recommend changing the installation mode to "Recovery" then checking the flashable ZIP's updater-script and basically replicate it from the shell (the updater-script is a shell script).

The script is inside the ZIP, which I think I saved to /sdcard/Android/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/ - check the output on your screen after pressing install, it should be noted there.

Alright, I will give it a try tomorrow, and post an update on the results. Thanks for the help!
Note that there are still a few minor things that are done via root, even when using the manual recovery installation mode. So the app needs to get root access.
Hello there, I just rooted my Z3C 5803 phone with the exploit founded yesterday (.93 FW) and first thing I did was to install Titanium Backup because there were a lot of programs I wanted to remove for good from this device and also wanted to integrate newer versions into the Rom. Whenever I try to integrate, for example, a newer YouTube, Google Chrome, Google Play Store version into the Rom, TB seems to keep trying and trying forever.
Checking into the TB FAQ i found this:
"14. I tried to integrate system app updates or to convert user apps to system apps but it didn’t work. Why?
These features require a NAND unlocked ("S-OFF") device, in order to write to the ROM.
Depending on the software, some S-ON devices may "remember" modifications made to /system for a while, or until the next reboot. That is not enough for our purpose.
Please search the Internet for information on how to make your particular device S-OFF."
.......but, of course, for me that is Chinese. Doesn´t mean that if I´m root, I can anything I want to the Rom? If not, what do I need to make the phone S-OFF?
Hope someone could help this noob!
Thanks in advance.

But I DO have RW permissions over the system folder..............according to ES File Explorer I have "rwxr-xr-x" and those stay after I reboot my device. I can use ES File Explorer to copy files wherever I want. Root is working just fine, is just TB that cannot integrate stuff onto the ROM (neither remove, I only can freeze apps, but I want to remove them for good).

Any Solution?

This fixed my xposed framework issues! Thank you!
Yeah, that fixed the permissions to install Xposed, but that doesnt work to let Titanium Backup modify the files in the rom. MKLCF2, could you please try to integrate, let's say YOUTUBE or GOOGLE PLAY into the rom ?
I'm still at work and cannot test anything
Try
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
after that you should be able to mess around with Titanium Backup
Thanks for that tip but 2 things still happens.......I'm still unable to integrate YOUTUBE or GOOGLE PLAY newer versions into the rom AND, everytime I reboot the device is like I lose that option and I have to do the entries again on the terminal..........for example, Xposed keeps asking me "are you root?" when I try to install/update it.
Is there any other solution to this?
TIA
Hi all,
I have SuperSU Pro 2.46 installed on a lifetab P8912.
Everything worked and I got checked with rootchecker that everything works fine.
Xmodgames also starts with the message that it has root permissions granted.
The ClashofClans mod has a problem: "Mod start fails. Please confirm XModgames is authorized with root permission".
What can I do ? Does anybody else encounter the same problem or fixed that already ?

This should be brought to the attention of the developer of "ClashofClans" -- it might be looking for 'su' at a hard-coded path. You could test for this (and perhaps even fix the problem for you) by copying or linking '/system/xbin/su' to other common paths -- such as '/system/bin/su'.
At a terminal enter:
which su
It should reply '/system/xbin/su'.
Frank
hmm, thanks , but perhaps I didn't find the right shell to work with:
I do not have write access to that folder /system/bin
Shall I chmod 777 to that folder, at least temporary ?
Sorry for not having worked since a long time on linux..

That partition is normally mounted for reading only, not for writing. Remount it as writable, copy the file, then remount as read-only again:
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /system/xbin/su /system/bin
mount -o remount,ro /system
The SuperSU installation script will delete that copy when you flash the update again so it isn't permanent, and there is only a small chance that this is the problem.
Frank

your mount description worked fine, but still I get the error when starting the mod from xmodgames.....

Hi Frank,
done, but in the txt file it is a bunch of - at least for me - magic !
I can find lotz of krsdk stuff, looks like a former try of kingroot is still existant and might prevent something there, or perhaps that's because xmodgames is checking for kingroot ...
Really do not know .....

That's a very reasonable guess. I assume that you rooted with Kingo Root then replaced that with SuperSU. Maybe Kingo Root is still active on your device. Maybe SuperSU did not install and the root checker found Kingo's 'su'. Take a good look at both installations and try to figure out what is there. Does the SuperSU Android application run? See if 'su' will tell you whose it is by running
su --version
Frank
Kingroot didn't work when I tried it, therefore I went through the SuperSU installation.
su --version gives me
"2.45:SUPERSU"
Best regards,
Alex

I can't see what's happening from here but the cause could very well be the incomplete KingRoot attempt. It might be that your solution is to revert to stock to remove that Kingo stuff then root again using the procedure that succeeded.

me and one of my expert friends analyzed the application to see what is the problem, we found out that XMODGAMES doesn't check the root properly
So, if there was an expert person that can reverse engineer the application and fix this issue, that would be great
PS: we don't have time to do it, because of our final college exams, we might do it in the summer.

THANKS a lot for your help,
Alecz

Here is the solution How to run Xmod games in android lollipop
Hey all
I'm having some trouble getting r/w access back on system on my 5803 on .726 firmware.
I have root and working recovery, just no r/w on system. Every time I check system access in terminal it sits at "ro" and not "rw"
I had full access in Kitkat, but when I flashed Lollipop I seemed to have lost r/w access. I have tried updating my recovery, RICDefeat, and byeselinux, all to no avail.
I feel like I'm busy missing something completely obvious, but I can't for the life of me figure out where I'm going wrong. Can any of you fine souls help?
Can you enable r/w acces using adb?
Open command line window, type adb shell (with device connected in debugging mode), then su, then mount -o remount,rw /system.
Don't know if this works for Lollipop, but I do see other users struggling to get full r/w permissions with the latest LP firmware.
Cheers.

It seems that I can enable that way, but it doesn't persist after a reboot. And mounting system in recovery doesn't seem to do anything either. If I try run certain things in recovery it seems like they don't really work. I can change recoveries and ROM, but things like debloating scripts don't seem to work. It's quite strange.
Can you use Script Manager from Play Store to run a script at boot to enable root access? Not the best solution but may work?
Peace

I suppose I could, but that's not gonna solve my problem with flashing things in recovery
