[Q] Tf701t as Nvidia Shield possible ? - Asus Transformer TF701

I was thinking about possibility to use some nvidia shield portable games / streaming games software. In theory we have the same specs (or even better -> screen) than this little nvidia device.
I want to do it without loosing warranty, so I`m thinking about rooting & changing build.prop to mimic nvidia shield portable. Did anyone tried this and succeeded ? If it worked, which apps did You run which werent available before rooting & build.prop editing ?

[Q] Games Tab, Bluetooth Controllers & Play Store

I have three, semi-related questions:
1) For some reason the "Games" tab on my home screen wont load. I can get into the Apps tab just fine, and all of my games boot without an issue, but the dedicated tab that only shows games (along with friends, saves, and achievements) won't open. I try to open it and it crashes. I did a factory reset and it was fine for a while, then it stopped working again. Any ideas?
2) Is it possible to get a Bluetooth controller working with the Fire HD 8.9? I don't know what it would work with, but some of these games are just atrocious with a touchscreen. Are there any options out there for this? Preferably more affordable ones. I have a couple Dualshock 3s lying around. Don't know if those could work.
3) How safe is it to root these days? I tried rooting in December and it bricked my Kindle. Followed all the steps from one of the stickied threads here (forget which one) to the letter and it literally broke my UI. Couldn't slide down from the top, couldn't get into settings, nothing. Had to send it back to Amazon. All I want is Google Play. If the bootloader was unlocked, I'd love stock 4.2 (or CM 10.1), but I can wait on that. How far has the community come since then? Is it safe to root now?
Thanks for any help you guys can give. I really appreciate it.
Root is virtually the same, read the entire threads, most succeed
Bt controllers work with root moga controller does anyway as does psx ive read...

Mirror PC to Glass

Lots about going Glass to PC but what about the other way around? Like TeamViewer etc?
Don't need input, just streaming display.
Thoughts ?

I think; glass processing power, glass data streaming, and glass battery life while data streaming are the limiting factors. These may change with updated hardware.
However, small screen size, and the lag that comes with all RDP streaming would also make it impractical.
Lastly I don't see how it would be that useful (I'd love to hear what you have in mind though) and I still haven't addressed the other problem, which is is it sounds like a lot of work to code.
I'm doing my PhD (psychology) and will be using Glass throughout. Essentially, I need a computer to 'talk' to glass in real time and have a series of computer streams be available to the Glass wearer, either by swipeable cards, or some type of quad view layout. I was hoping that a direct video stream would be simpler than writing full software (especially since I've only just begun to learn java).
Battery can be dealt with (external battery pack).
Data over WiFi should be good enough.
I found this
https://developers.google.com/glass/develop/mirror/static-cards?hl=en#attaching_video
But we run into programming limitations at the moment.
And I saw someone had made an app that streamed from a Go PRO camera via a URL , with camera connected to PC, but I think updates have killed that option, for now. I have tried to sidleoad several VNC client apps but I can't access any of the fields to fill in server information.

I think it is definitely possible with cards but I don't think streaming is. I have a GoPro hero 3 black edition and it is capable of streaming because it creates its own WiFi hotspot that a phone can connect to and stream from although it gets very hot while doing it and reduces battery quickly.
I think the cards option would work best, what type of data are you going to be displaying? Lastly I think once the newer model comes out with more RAM, a better processor, and a better battery that it will be much more possible to stream a live feed from the computer. It is definitely possible in terms of software, its just a matter of how difficult. I'm not sure if the current Glass software is going to be able to do the trick. But since glass is really an android phone you might be able to talk to th developer of an already-existing android phone app that streams from a computer (there are lots of them). They might give you a general idea of how to code for it.
I did look at the link but I know very little about Java (although that will change soon) and I only know some C++ so sadly I can't help you with the actual code.

best alternative device to Chromecast in mirroring phone

I've been looking for a near-perfect solution to mirroring my Samsung note 3 but to no avail. Here's my usage scenario and criteria below:
Usage:
- play various video formats via Diceplayer
- reply to WhatsApp messages
- surf the web
- take notes with Evernote
Criteria:
- TRUE plug-and-play capability after 1 time setup ( there shouldn't be a need to adjust settings after the dongle is inserted into TV)
- no lag/latency problem
- TRUE mirroring capability (WYSIWYG, no limitations on what apps can or cannot be used on my Note 3)
- Big plus if it can also work with my wife's 5S
- Big plus if it is future proof
any suggestion please?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Since you have a Samsung device, I recommend Samsung's AllShare Cast Wireless Hub unless you also have a Samsung TV that supports the function (or upgrading to a Samsung TV with it is an option). I got a new open-box one recently off eBay for about the price of Chromecast.
Basically you plug it into one of your TV's HDMI ports using the supplied slim HDMI cable or your own, plug the supplied MicroUSB cable into the supplied power adapter (or another MicroUSB wall plug that outputs 5V at 450+mA), then switch the TV to that input.
You'll get a screen with some device information and a pairing ID. On your phone/tablet, you go into Screen Mirroring, and when you get the list you long-press on it to use Passkey mode (some devices may support the button mode - mine does not) - plug in the passkey on screen and it pairs. After that when you engage screen mirroring it'll automatically try to reconnect.
(Side note: I believe this is how Chromecast setup should work - requiring a challenge-response that ensures you can see the connected TV...)
As far as performance goes, it feels about the same as Chromecast screen mirroring on my Galaxy S3. AllShare Cast might be a tiny bit faster, but it also seems to slightly affect my WiFi network performance, as WiFi Direct is essentially running an ad-hoc connection to the hub.
Also, you need line-of-sight with the hub. Its WiFi signal is not as powerful/sensitive as a normal WiFi router/AP.
There is a little bit of overscan (edges cut off) that I couldn't figure out how to get rid of. It's not in my TV settigs as my Chromecast is on the same TV input via HDMI switch, so I could see the difference flipping back and forth.
Other than those minor things, I think AllShare Cast works pretty well. If Chromecast screen mirroring didn't work for me, I would be using it. Actually my wife is still using AllShare Cast since her S3 is still on 4.2
Unfortunately I don't think anything's going to work on your wife's 5S, well, nothing except an AppleTV... but I could be wrong.
And as for future proof, there really is no such thing. Especially in the video world. Because almost everything appliance-like is built minimalistically and relies on a hardware decoder, once a new CODEC becomes mainstream, all the old devices get left in the dust.

A Android stick/box with a rockchip processor
-dualcore = rk3066
-quad core = rk3188
-quad core = rk3288
can mirror your device via miracast and you can install apps via the playstore like evernote. You can find it on geekbuying.com or ebay for 50$
ex. Mk908II, CX-919, Minix x7 (it costs 120$ but you get excellent quality and service)

Android Auto on old flashed device (5.1.1)

Hey guys, I asked this question on AndroidCentral and no replies since 2 weeks, so I'm asking here
I have a 2016 Golf which has Android Auto.
I also have an old Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-1317M) which runs very fine but wasn't compatible with Android Auto.
Yesterday, I rooted the device and flashed a new rom to 5.1.1
For now, Google lets me download the Android Auto app on the phone. However, when I connect it to my car, it says that my device is not compatible. I am also able to open the app on my phone but it says that my phone is not compatible either.
Is there a way to change the "name" of my device to make it compatible at that point (I heard a build.prop file but i'm not sure).
For now, the device model in my settings is "GT-N7105". Let's say I would change the name for the Galaxy Note 5 name.
Before modifying the Build.prop, I just want to make sure that it will work.
Thanks!
Hi all,
I'm looking as well for such kind of information - I have a Galaxy S3 but saw tha same as in the box from MAAYO...
So, anyone has a solution to this?
Best Regards
Magic01
Look in to changing the name on the build prop, but i dont think its going to help. For the most part i think the hardware set is whats preventing it from working. Some phones dont have MHL to connect to the head unit, and some only work with the international version of the phone.
My wife's phone (doogee f5) doesn't have MHL but it works with android auto, so I don't think that's the problem.
OTOH mine (homtom ht7 pro) doesn't work.
Both phones run android 5.1 and have the same set of codecs, if is there a way to make mine work by tweaking the build.prop I'd really like to know.
Edit I just checked and my son's phone (moto e 2nd gen.) also works, so it's not the memory either (1 GB on the moto e vs. 2 on mine). It seems the only phone that's not working is mine
Google dropped MHL in favor of Cast. None of their software will require MHL.
Note that Nexus 6 completely lacks MHL, yet is fully compatible with AA.
Yes, as you say (and as I have tested) the lack of MHL cannot be the cause of the incompatibility.
The help(less) center tells that the cause could be a missing codec or not enough ram, but it cannot be neither the codecs (both phones have the same set of codecs available) nor the ram (I checked with a moto e with just 1GB ram and it has no problem connecting to the in dash display).
Google should tell the exact cause of the incompatibility, so we could at least know if a tweak of build.prop could fix the issue
Oh, wait, maybe that's the reason they don't....

Chromecast on a Tablet

I've been searching the forum without much success, I want to install the Chromecast OS ( or in this case, HubCap) on a general cheap android tablet. Since Chromecast is similar in foundation, is this possible? I would like the tablet I get, like an 8" Chinese generic or anything, which already has wifi and a display, to be the display I can choose to cast to.
My further thoughts is that it makes a portable video frame I can use with my Google Home, but that's for my own further experimentation. I still haven't been able to find if HubCap on Chromecast still allows the Chromecast to be controllable from Google Home, though I would assume so.
Any directions I should look into? I would love it to be as easy as rooting the tablet device and installing a HubCap slip-streamed Chromecast package ( if any were to exist, even ) , but I have a feeling it's not that easy, despite Android seeming to be resilient as to the platform it is being installed on.

I believe I am looking for the same thing! I just recently upgraded to the galaxy s8. My old device is a rooted galaxy s6. I would like to use the galaxy s6 to hook up to my LG HDTV (model is LG 55LF6000, a "dumb" tv and is not wifi capable). I have been searching for "a way to turn the gs6 into a chromecast and/or Fire Tv". The hope is that I can then turn my "dumb" TV into a SmartTV and (hopefully) be able to utilize KODI as well as other smarttv type functions as if it were one to begin with.
As a side note, I have had every single samsung "galaxy s" phone; even before they were noted as such, starting with the samsung moment, the epic 4g touch, all the way up. I have rooted every single one of them, BUT I DO NOT want to root my Galaxy S8 (sungstratum mods do wonders without a need for root) bc Im in love with some of the knox features (secure folder, samsung pass etc) never having used any before due to using rooted devices.
I did find a few forums that appeared to mention ways to sort of do this, where the receiving device needed to be rooted (in my case the gs6) and the sending one did not need to be rooted (gs8). However, I cannot find them anymore, they were rather old (2015 I believe) and weren't descriptive enough or easy to follow in order to get the job done... So round-about-way of saying/asking... I think we are looking for the same thing, correct?
Wish/Help Request (summarized): use old android device as chromecast/fire Tv (rooted gs6) connected to "dumb", no wifi, HDTV // using newer android device (gs8) as the remote/casting device (chromecast) or as the Fire Tv remote if going that route is possible also... SOMEBODY, PLEASE HELP US! <Many thanks in Advance!

Sorry, this is not at all what I am looking for. I am looking to repurpose a tablet itself to be the device displaying the video, is if it were a tv/Chromecast single device combo. It would be a small screen, yes, but it is the best way I can describe its function.

I understand, and in a nutshell that is exactly what I would need to do with my galaxy s6. Repurpose it as a Chromecast , it could then play things on that screen or the big one it's attached to.. however, I guess mine requires a little extra.. as I believe you would just need this to get done what you need:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...mirror-android-phone-screen-to-t3015383/page2
this app in googleplay may do the trick too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nfo.oneassist&hl=en
I noticed there are 2 links to apps that do exactly what you want... Not too hard to come across... If you happen upon the extra step I'm needing (getting it onto the TV from the "Chromecast tablet/phone) please let me know sir!
