I have a Note 5 SM-N920C with baseband version N920CXXU2A0J3
Kernel Version 3.10.61-594515 [email protected] #1 Fri Oct 9 21:14:40 KST 2015
Build number LMY47X.N920CXXU2A0J5
Is it possible to root this version? if so which files do I use?
I researched and read most of the threads regarding rooting the N920C but this baseband version isnt mentioned and I'm not positive I can root it so I'd like some advice please before I go ahead and do it
I've rooted all my previous Samsungs with no problem but as this is such a new phone I thought it best to ask 1st.

I rooted my SM-N920C by installing Phil recovery, followed by SkyHigh kernel and the Beta SuperSU.
Phone is functioning perfect, no issues.
Here is the link to the guide and downloads.

Hi Guy, I saw the post How to root Tab S2 but SM-T815Y is not in that list. Can I use SM-T815 instead ?
Thank in advance
CF autoroot.
Just use CF autoroot, under android development. I have exactly the same model and it worked flawlessly.

Root and firmware are 2 different things.
All that is required for the root exploit to work is that the kernel it uses is bootable and can mount the partitions.
Considering these devices are essentially the same, as long as it flashes and boots it should work.
The point is moot anyway as it's already confirmed to work.
Hi Guy, Confirm root my device by using CF Auto Root SM-T815
Thanks
Now is all about waiting for 5.1 update or any rom.
Any kernels or rom work on the Y variant?
Thanks guys.

Pretty much any custom rom/kernel should work even wifi only, but obviously no LTE.
Its up to you to try it out and make sure you have a backup.
Is there a specific root dedicated only to 815Y device?
I used the method specified here to root on my SM-T815Y device (Made in Brazil). While Odin has shown that everything had gone well and without fail, my tablet came into infinite boot (soft brick).
I've seen here that some people managed to root their "Y" devices, but personally don't know if they are equal in all locations where they are produced
Apparently the "Y" makes all the difference. Is there a specific root dedicated only to 815Y device? If there, would be grateful to know. Tks

Before you enabled Mobile Data.. Did you set the APN settings correctly? APN is the Access Point Names for the specific carrier you are with.
This link will help you with the Access Point Names.
http://www.thecellguide.com/samsungn5howtoapn.php
I'm starting to think you got ripped off... Where you trying to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 5? Or a Samsung Galaxy J7?? I hate to tell you this if you wanted a Samsung Galaxy Note you didn't get it and you were sold a Samsung Galaxy J7 which is why you couldn't find the unlock codes because Verizon doesn't sim card lock their devices anymore and if I was you and you know who you bought that J7 from, I'd pay them a visit!! I shudder to know what you paid for that Galaxy J7 because a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 a REAL one like mine 64GB cost me 800.00 USD and that Samsung Galaxy J7 isn't even worth 200.00 USD... What did they charge you for the phones price to buy it??

I have received configuration messages from my mobile carrier when I inserted SIM card, and I and installed them (the carrier is MTS, from Serbia). Yes, I wanted to buy Samsung Galaxy J710 Dual SIM. Both SIM slots are unlocked. I tried turning Wifi off and just mobile data on... Nothing changed... Same error again.
I just realized that this topic is for Galaxy Note 5 phones... Sorry about that. This is the only place I found mentioning anything about "Software Update - Registration Failed" problem...

All I can suggest is to install updated firmware for the J7 using Odin and then put a sim card in and set the APN settings correctly then see if it works and if it doesn't you'll have to go to the place that you buy your Internet from and have them set it up..

Is it possible that wrong CSC code caused software update registration to fail?
I lost my whole day reading about it. It is set to XSG (United Arab Emirates, I think).
Also, I was supprised when I found out that KNOX Warranty Void is 0x1. I never rooted this phone, nor install anything outside Google play. I also found information that my native language interface was installed on 27th December 2016. Is it possible that this broke KNOX? Could it be the proof that someone did something that is preventing device to update?

Yes thats all possible since knox is tripped.. Once knox gets tripped it usually causes the phone a lot of problems.. And no installation of a language cannot trip knox the only thing that could tripped knox was because someone rooted it before you got it.. And if it has an incorrect CSC yeah that will mess with any updates... If you want to at least get that phone up and running again I'd suggest you may as well reroot it again and install your own kernel and rom that you can find on the net.. There's usually a few good roms and kernels out nowadays that run great and a lot of times even better than the stock rom.. Are you sure you didn't buy a fake phone?? What does CPU Z from the play store say about the information on your phone? Like the bootloader information the CPU the amount of memory and even the amount of space.. I need to know so I can check against a real one.

The place I've bought is doesn't accept returns, I'm so mad right now. They also didn't inform me about the device is Note 5 Duos. I figured it out as I was putting my sim card in it.

Hi, I have same model from Taiwan, 64Gb version I bought from ebay.
What I did was install CROM from the Samsung app store to enable installation of customer roms. Then you have to go to developers options and enable OEM Unlock and USB Debug.
Then you flash CF-Autoroot via Odin. I installed a different version since I didn't find one that matched my phone version and I had no problems.
If you cannot find CROM in the Samsung app store, google the apk and install it.
To enable Developer option, go to settings > General and tap multiple times the software version, or something there, I don't remember very well which one, but you will see a counter saying something like "tap X more times to enable developer menu."
I hope it works for you, too.

Here is the links from my Google Drive:
CF-Autoroot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3xPBTglKzZ1cVB1TDNmOGN4Yms
Note 5 CROM: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3xPBTglKzZ1Z2czTlo0NUV1ck0
CROM comes in Taiwanese, just install and open it. I did this a year ago, so I don't remember if you have anything like "Accept" and "Decline", maybe yes, but I don't know how to read that in Taiwanese.
Good luck mate! Hope you don't have any issues, I didn't have any. BTW, although CROM won't kill knox, CF-Root will certainly do it.
Cheers!

Ahh sorry mate missed your post. The cqrrier specific threads here on s8 and up are pretty much dead. Yeah the safestrap and junk is all here on xda. Cf technicly is made for us yes. But because we have a locked bl it wont work. But if we where say to unlock it tomorrow yes cf auto would work perfectly in therory..if you search xda and s8 no verizon youll be taken. Screw it here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8
The s8 is not like past devices. All U.S. models are identicle so any 950u thread can or will apply to you as well. Xda has a wonderful search bar at the top of each page and it actually works really good once you get to know it.
I'm coming late to the party so to speak.
I finally got a S8 (Verizon) but have yet to move over to it.
My current phone is an S7 (Verizon) and via this website I was able to use a "non-customized" firmware ROM files along with odin3.12 to flash my S7. I did that so that I could use the "moblie hotspot" feature and give wifi to my laptop as I have unlimited data on my phone.
My S7 is "stuck" on Android 7, July 1, 2017 security patch, G930UUES4QG1 which I have been fine with not getting any verizon updates so long as I can use the "moblie hotspot".
Are you saying that with the S8 it is **NOT** possible to do what I did with the S7?
Here is the info on my S8
Model: SM-G950U
Carrier: Verizon
Android Version: 8.0.0
Baseband: G950USQS5CSB1
Kernel: 4.4.78

Bro if u found then tell me.
Hi Guys,
I have a galaxy note 9 N960F/DS model which was rooted with magisk on android pie.
i flashed the android 10 Q rom via odin and everything was fine except i didn't have any network and my IMEI status was NG. While the IMEI number was ok for both sims.
I didn't have much time to research so i got it fixed from a shop.
Now i want to know a few things.
1) can i somehow update the firmware without having to go through all the root process and having to patch certificate ?
2) if i backup this rom and incase i get a IMEI NG problem will i be able to just restore the rom ?? or will i have to patch the certificates again ??
3) is there any other workaround of patching certificate ?? are there patched modems available for note 9 ???
4)which is the best tool to patch certificate ??
thanks in advance
