Hey guys I was just wondering what directory and what file one needs to be edited in order to mute the phone manually on a note 5. I would like to know how you can tell if a phone is muted by looking at the files within a directory e.g. System > etc > firmware or maybe build.prop show something I cannot see, maybe its somewhere completely different. Any insight would be appreciated.
download rom toolbox and keep. open with RB text editor And try to edit.

Does anyone know how I can change the lock and unlock sounds on my phone? I found The correct sound format for the phone (.ogg) so I put it them on my phone and then using root explorer dropped and replaced them over the factory ones...but didnt work. It weird because it I click them it will play the sound like everything is correct but just wont work. I made sure that I have the screen lock sounds checked in my settings on my phone.

you just can switch Lock.ogg/TW_Unlock_Glass.ogg file located system/media/audio/ui folder
and reboot
edit. it's case sensitive!!
The name of the files are case sensitive, when you want to overwrite the original file it should follow the same. for example if you copy unlock.ogg it doesn't work it should be Unlock.ogg with capital U. give it a try
I have Galaxy Note with ICS 4.0.4, and my note already root, my question is why I couldn't change/edit txt file with Root Browser.
When I opened the file, it can be opened and edited, and after I save the file, reopen it, it still the same with the old one (before edit).
Can someone here tell me why and how to edit in system file?
Thx
How can you justify this thread in Dev section?
Mods please move to Q&A

Sounds like you don't have full root, try to paste a system app in system/app folder (& set permissions), if the file won't paste you need to root your phone,
There's enough guides for this so no point in repeating them.
If it will paste, then post your query including what you're trying to achieve in Q&A section or pm me, see if I can help.

I've already tested with copy, delete, rename & change file properties at system files.
It will work temporary only if I do a setting on "ES File Explorer" application. I have to go to setting and uncheck and check the Mount File System (Mount / . / system as writable).
But it worked only temporary, the file properties will back to before, only copy, delete, rename files still remain.
If after sometimes, I want to copy or delete or edit a file, I have to do the same procedure again with the help of "ES File Explorer" app.
The problem is, the file system cannot be changed if using some program like Volume+, CallRecorder, so the application didn't effect, even with the setting above.
Note : I've already checked with Root Checker application, ant it's said "Already Rooted"
Now I am using ICS 4.0.4 official for my Galaxy Note.
Ugrade from Gingerbread to CS with Mobile ODIN from Play Store.
Any suggestion which I can do to set the system, so it won't always return to lock the file (not editable) ?
Thx
Go to settings of es and root setting N make sure all 4 options are checked.

All already checked from the beginning.
I've got some ringtones & notification tones I want to put on my Note 5 from my Note 4, but can't seem to find the right folder. I tried the Ringtone folder, but it doesn't show up on the list when I try to assign them. Can anyone give me the correct location for it/them?

If you are rooted; system / media / audio / ringtones. If you are not rooted use another file explorer besides the stock one and use it to navigate to your regular ringtone folder and select it that way.

Hi. I'm looking for a few of the stock sounds as used on my Nokia 8. Is there any way I could extract them from a downloaded phone image or does anyone have copies they could upload for me. In particular I'm looking for Ring Ring from ringtones and Message 3 & 9 from notifications. Any help or info would be appreciated. Andy
You can copy the sounds by using a file manager on your Nokia 8. I suggest Ghost Commander.
Tap on the three dots, then Location, then Change location. Enter /system
"Ring Ring" is under /system/media/audio/ringtones/ and the Message sounds are under /system/media/audio/notifications/
If you have downloaded a Nokia 8 firmware, you can find these files in the system image - if you have software that can open it.
Hi. Thank you very much indeed! I achieved what I wanted using Ghost Commander as you suggested. I hadn't realised I could access files that way without the phone being rooted. Thank you again - Andy
