it will take you through all the updates. if you only updated one time, then you arent done yet. there are three marshmallow updates. one main update, and two security updates.

Moto X - ATT - 4.4 Update Stuck

I setup my wifes phone yesterday and then thought to check for the 4.4 update. Right now nothing appears to be happening. When I check for the update manually it says that there is an update already downloading and that I will be notified when complete. However, there is nothing in the notification tray to suggest anything is happening. This morning I woke up to a message saying that the download will complete once on wifi (but the phone was on wifi and working properly). That notification is now gone and same problem persists.
I've tried the obvious so far: Restart phone, try update using the Moto software via USB.
Level 1 tech support wants me to do a factory reset. Hoping to avoid that and the hour+ of setting up the phone again. Any thoughts? My phone is not rooted nor do I have plans to do so...
Since nobody seems to have any thoughts on this I decided to go ahead and factory reset the phone. Same exact symptom as before. Phone tells me there is an update available, I click download, nothing happens. Check the status a bit later and it says that an update is already in progress.
I'm starting to think that it's a problem with Recovery. Is it possible that these things will function normally with a broken or no recovery present? Went into fastboot and selected recovery. Instead of getting a factory reset I got a 'no command' error. Can't imagine it's possible to flash stock recovery if it's not rooted.

That's stock recovery, I think you need to hold down the volume button and then the power button and release, it should boot into recovery.

Hello,
I FINALLY convinced my wife to go Android. Got Nexus 7 2013 in August and she's gotten used to it. She's been IOS forever. So, her new moto x arrived Friday and we setup yestersday. Since she is OK with Nexus, the moto X will be good for her to move to. All is good EXCEPT the updates didn't download for some reason on activation yesterday. It showed it was downloading but to re-activate wifi. But, it was on?!!! Anyhow, she comes home today from her first full day at work with Triangle in notification bar to turn on wifi to download update. It's been over an hour with no movement and no status bar showing it's begun the download. I keep clicking for "system update" but says it's downloading... Status bar shows nothing other than update is ready and turn-on wifi.
Sounds like same issue as original poster. So far, wife is not happy with Android and her battery meter jumps all over place from 5% to 100%. Tempted to do factory reset but not a good way to start off as OP mentioned.
Any ideas or updates? Thanks

It seems like a dodgy or slow internet connection to me. Since you're still in download phase of the update, I don't think the problem is related to Recovery.

Identical problem here. No update so far. I did the factory reset with same results. Going to try to flash stock firmware if I can figure it out.

Wifi is not the problem. The internet is cranking and when I did the factory update it chewed through 20+ app updates in no time at all. Motorola has no idea how to help me... they just want me to send it in for repair. Such crap. I would love to try flashing stock firmware but can't seem to find any links that work.
Found the firmware. It appears my phone has the oldest build listed 139.9.51. Would it be okay to flash new build of 139.12.54?

Or does it make more sense to go ahead and flash 4.4 stock firmware?

Here is the thread that I used to fix my problem. I downloaded the stock 4.4 firmware from the link and flashed it using that technique. Phone appears to be tip-top now running stock 4.4.
Hello. Seems you fixed the problem. I question as to whether future OTA updates will download and we should return or not. Hmm..
I don't know what firmware she has. I'll have to check tonight when she gets home. Can you re-post the link?... it seems it didn't post it on the thread.

Oops: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572249
I think this is likely a temporary fix. I figure there is bound to be at least one or two more OTA's well within the warranty period... so I'll found out then if there is some other problem that needs to be addressed. Right now when I check for an update it simply says that the phone is up-to-date.
4.4.2 should be around the corner I think...

You could flash the post-camera OTA SBF and see if OTAs to 4.4.

I did originally flash 4.2 (139.12.54) to test that very thing. The OTA had the same problem. Like I said, I think
this phone will eventually get sent back to Motorola... but during the holidays I'm just going to deal with it. Besides, the
phone is running great.
I'm using the tmobile version and I'm having the same problem. Says it needs to connect to wifi to update, but its already connected. After reboot it says update in progress, but nothing happens.

Maybe it's a problem with the Motorola update servers...
I'm thinking that's probably the case since the cyber Monday promotion probably slammed them.
Glad to hear it's not just two of us..but still.... Sorry to hear of your problem too. Keep us posted.
Update on my wife's moto X. Still no update has been downloaded. She came home last night from work turn on wifi with triangle in notification. It said I have to turn on wifi to start download. It was already on have been on for a long time. So after a while I started to hit the Check Update button and also cleared the popup message telling me that one was being downloaded. (It's not) Did that routine several times. It did look like some WiFi activity was occurring based on WiFi x in symbol..but nothing. The message in notification eventually changed to the download status bar but stayed a 0 %
So, same story since initial setup on Sunday. Bummer. Not going to fiddle with any hackery. It should just work like my X does which is why she wanted it in first place and left Apple.
Will keep all updated.

OTA Notification Blocking

Alrighty so I just got the phone a few hours ago. First thing I did was root and delete all the garbage TW brings along with it. Just a few minutes ago I got a notification OTA update from T-mo. Now that I'm rooted, I can't install it so it's just annoyingly sitting in my notifications.
Anyone know how to get rid of it?

Look for something named FW Update or SW Update or Software Update (don't remember the exact names) in Titanium, and wipe their data and then freeze them.

Security Notice won't go away

I just updated my s6 with the marshmallow update. I keep getting this notification: "Security notice. Unauthorized actions have been detected. Restart your phone" I thought maybe it was because I turned off permissions for a lot of the stock apps like calendar, email, etc since I use other apps for those. But I've restarted 4 times over 6 days and the notice came up again today. How in the heck do I get it to go away? It is driving me nuts. From searching for info, it seems this has happened on other galaxies on other carriers with previous updates and getting a new update was the only thing to fix. Am I just SOL?
Anyone having this issue after updating to Marshmallow? I even just did a factory reset and didn't restore anything and it came up with in 10 minutes of using the phone again.

Why does my Samsung S5 keep telling me I have a software update?

And then I update it and then like next week it's another update. This has been going on for three weeks yet even though it's a security update, in the about device menu, the device security is still dated to January. What's going on here?

I had a similar problem with my S5, I finally did a factory reset on it and it updated for real, and a lot of other apps suddenly updated. It was a pain getting it set up again, but I'm glad I did.

WARNING: December 1 Security Update!

Hey all-
Just FYI. Applied the update that showed up this morning (Dec 1 Security Patch and some AppFlash thing). When the phone restarted, I kept getting the message "com.phone.android has stopped", again and again without end, couldn't get past it. I was able to restart the phone again, which then booted to a black screen with the green android icon and "Error!" underneath it. Great. Restarted again, and booted into the OS.
All of my apps are there, but EVERYTHING else is gone. Contacts, Texts, accounts, settings, all of it. Phone still shows as on the September 1 patch, I CAN'T enable developer mode to enable USB debugging, and it appears like it broke my Adaptive storage. So messed up.
BEWARE.
Edit: I spoke to a buddy with an MZF and he applied the patch this morning with no problems. The VZW rep I spoke to also happens to have an MZF and also had no issues applying the patch. Your mileage may vary. I blame Trump.

You won't get any help from Moto. They do it to sell the z2. I had all my mods so I had to get a z2 after they sent an update that bricked my z force.
I agree it must be Trump's fault
got the exact same thing with mine, and now its trying to install again. dunno if i wanna let this one thru.

How were you able to get back in the OS? I ended up having to factory reset the phone. All sorts of things were messed up. Bunch of settings were missing in the menu, the home/back keys didn't work when in an app, all sortsa stuff. I couldn't get it to connect to my PC, but I was thankfully able to successfully backup a bunch of stuff to Google Drive. Reset it, and got the December patch to install properly. Seems to be working okay now, but I'm having a hell of a time getting my text backup to restore. Ugh.
i dunno, i tried going into recovery, wouldnt let me, then it reset back to the os, apps were still installed but all settings were gone. havent installed the patch yet but otherwise the phone is working.
Applied fine for me, it honestly makes my phone feel snappier.
Not sure whether it was the case, but ONE SHOULD NEVER APPLY OTA WITH SD CARD INSERTED because it mess things a hell! This is a known issue reported multiple times at Moto z force Russian speaking forum at 4pda.ru

would be a little difficult to remove for update if you formatted yours as internal
Why?

Seriously, why would anybody do that? What's the benefit of slower storage with reduced capacity (IIRC it disables the built-in 32GB)?

I formatted my 64gb SD card as internal and it still uses the 32gb that came with the phone. I've never noticed slow downs either.
