My personal favorite is GK R4 though, purely because of the great OC what it provides with awesome battery standby/SOT and performance. Haven't flashed R5 as the dev has not included OC with it. At complete peace with R4

Oc means bump over 2.3Ghz
Does it perform much better than stock..

Most imp factor
Im on official cm 12.1 so l need to dirty flash the ROM then flash the kernel or just flash it and wipe dalvik cache

Yes, OC (Over Clock) means bump over the stock frequency... with R4 you can go upto 2.8GHz
About performance, I would definitely say so... btw, performance in my book is day to day tasks like checking mails, browsing, whatsapp and playing some casual games... I don't look at antutu scores for performance... with R4 OC all this stuff is great along with very good standby (about 1.5-2 days) and SOT (~5hrs almost on every cycle) :victory:
Cheers

Great so i have to flash the kernel along with dirty flash of ROM or just the kernel alone

As I haven't flashed R5 can't say dirty flash and wipe dalvik/cache is required or not... but for R4 I just straight away flashed the kernel (no dirty flashing or wipe before or after flashing kernel) and reboot worked for me... Hope this helps...
Another thing, in case you want to say thanks just click on thanks button rather than writing a post
Cheers

Haha yep & thanks!!??

BTW flashed R5 this morning no dirty flash ROM just kernel flash and wipe dalvik/cache seems pretty stable

cool... I think you should post this message on GK thread as it will help other users and the dev as well... This forum is all about helping others... Just stay relevant to the topic, respect others and follow rules (my 2 cents as you seem to be a new user)
Cheers

Does R5 work well on cm12.1 with xposed??

Not having xpsed battery life is great tho.

That R4 makes scrolling etc stuff laggy at lower frequencies (talking about like 1.5 GHz). Not even sure whether OC helps alot though I don't use higher frequencies as Mi3 is addicged to being hot af. For me on Omni 6.0 zeurin x provided best performance at low frequency and xcelerate I use in other ROMs. Waiting for the new build of xcelerate though

The reason I use R4 is that I want to run my mi3 at higher frequency than the stock. The hardware of mi3 is really good to handle it, that's what I believe. I run it at the max 2.8GHz what R4 provides. Flashed the R4 the day it got released and till now never faced any heating issue. The combination of Metallium ROM and GK R4 is simply fabulous (at least for me). Not only the the combo is stable, it performs smoothly with great battery life which I mentioned in my earlier post. I have read lot of comments about lag but I haven't faced any (may be I am just plain lucky or the combo what I am using is simply works great). Not sure how many members are using this combination.
BTW, this is the setting I use (particularly for members who are using Metallium with GK R4):
CPU:
Max Frequency: 2.8GHz
Governor: Interactive
Hotplug:
Min CPU online: 1
Max CPU online: 3
Max cores screen off: 1
GPU:
Max Frequency: 657MHz
Governor: msm-adreno-tz
Screen:
Saturation: 45%
I/O Scheduler: FIOPS
Misc:
Vibration: 10%
TCP Congestion: Westwood
Rest all setting is at default.
Cheers

It's not that I'm not satisfied with the kernel I run, it's just that I'm certain there's some better one out there.
EDIT: What do you think of the kernel labeled Tiamat_N1-v4.1.0? From here: http://tiamat-dev.com/mahimahi/
the kernel you mentioned is what i am currently using as testing so far its working good with MIUI 2.3.23 and it offers up to 1.2GHZ overclocking which is not stable on my nexus at least

Any overclock beyond 1113 Mhz is unstable.

sry for my noob question. but is the kernel jus for oc purpose or for overall performance(battery life, call audio quality, smoothness etc)?
cos i am happy with stock kernel. no issues at all
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
the stock kernel was good for me to it did not give me any trouble but i like to mess around with my devices the change log for the kernel can be found here
Code:
http://tiamat-dev.com/8x50-changes/
as you can see there are a few improvements to the kernel with each update
I have been having 3G mobile network issue with CM7 base ROM. On certain location, I cannot download and make or receive calls. my 3G icon arrows show upload activities but no download happening. My ISP name (Maxis Malaysia) showing as normal. I upgraded to CM7.2, tried Kang ROM, preshoot kernel and change new SIM card but doesn't help. Anyone has any ideas on this problem? ROM or Kernel issue? Thank you.

Wildmonks [Kernel] [2.6.38.8 (CM7)] HAVS/SVS + 1152MHz (09/17/11)
is the best I have seen so far, used it for months and often thought I was glad I did because it seemed more stable than stock !

Which is the best kernel.... safe kernel...????

Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
for me, its NoteCore kernel, it has the MMC_CAP_ERASE line removed as well as the cwm.zip bug too. Making it 2x safer than the rest
Its also fcuking awesome !!!
What bout Franco kernel is it safe....
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
its safe from the MMC_CAP_ERASE bug which triggers the brickbug, But im not sure about the cwm.zip bug, its only just been discovered...
I havent read too much into it to be honest, Ive always used NoteCore kernels and I know its double safe so I dont worry about it
Check it out if you're concerned , Its stickied in the General section

[q] install overclock kernel on cm10 - optimus 2x

hi guys. i need to know the link of a possible overclock kernel to install on my lg optimus dual with cm10 because from the cyanogenmod i can overclock max at 1000GHz ( i dont know if theres a way to overclock >1000GHz without changing kernel)and how to install it. thank you all!!
there are no kernels that support overclocking yet. have to wait for someone to release a kernel that supports overclocking.

Where can I download new governors?

Hi.
I use JellyBam in my N7000 wich come with basic governors. I would like use smartass or interactive governors... but,
where I can get it?
Its works in two core processor?
Its is dependent of kernel? Mine is CM10.1 compatible for JellyBan.
Sorry for my english... I am noob yet... and, yes, I do 3 hours of search (with made me confuse).
Thank you in advance.]
I'm not the smartest one on here but I think it's part of the kernel.

You're completely right. Governers are baked into the kernel. You can't just download them.
@op give it some time, job is still young. Once Sammy release kernel sources I'm sure kernel devs will start implementing stuff like that. Also, questions go in the q&a section.

The guy who took over gavins work has managed to get it working on jb. It works but is say it's not ready to be used as a daily driver. You can oc, change governors etc, but it seems laggy & buggy-the homme button won't work for me, had to use back
If you want to try it its under "hydracore"
