Can anyone point me in the direction of an in depth step by step tut for rooting the Note 3 N900A? I have tried a few different things and nothing has worked.
Can you please specify the methods you have tried?

All the methods that I could find on youtube. There are a couple of options here on XDA that I've seen, but there isn't a very good tutorial on it. At least not for a squid like me !
I think it could be rooted with a version of jb if you updated I don't think it can be. I think some people have safestrap' the device and loaded something else in another memory but I don't think it is really rooted

There are a few options on XDA that I've seen, but there's not a very good tutorial on how to do it for a newbie. It looks like you have to from my understanding of it downgrade to KitKat and then go to the root process.
Does kingroot work? If not you'll have to downgrade to kitkat run Kingoroot (yes, two are named eerily the same) and safestrap rooted ROM.
I tried one of them, think it was king root. Chinese site?
That'd be it.

Is kingroot safe, like does it install any backdoors that I should be aware of?

Have no idea, I didn't get it to work.
If you are on 4.4.2, you can use TowelRoot, 1 click root. As long a you are not on 5.1.1, you can Odin back to 4.4.2. I used the method without Safestrap on 5.0.1. I followed the directions in post 1 and it worked without a hitch.

Hey @qbking77, Could you put in your OP which method you used please? Moto or CF's Autoroot?
Thanks!
:edit: I need to add why I'm asking - We have had a report of Motochopper not letting an app that needs root function properly where CF's Autoroot does. Being that it's early in the game, people may want to know this. I understand that CF has a disclaimer using the autoroot method but it's still a viable solution with the numbers coming in on successful. I do not believe we have had a failed attempt on Sprint devices. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

Hey Tim,
Any know how on how to use for a Mac?
Thanks
Thanks for the video. I did get it to work though I ran into an error. It said that more than 1 deviced or emulator detected. I exited Bluestacks, pdanet and the Galaxy streaming server. After closing those programs, I ran the batch file and it was successful. I'm sure that bluestacks caused the issue. Just a warning for those using this program.
Any word on whether this works with the newest firmware update?

Just got it, took a quick stop at the house. Rooted. Worked like a charm. Make sure you have nothing like bluestacks running. Like a previous user has stated. I was having issue till I made sure everything else was off. Even pdanet
Sorry, if this is asked already...
But I couldn't find any answers, You see, I'm planning on rooting using
Kingo, and installing SafeStrap to install stock android (Getting rid of TouchWiz ^_^!!!!)
But I want to know is it possible with these specs:

Thanks! , hopefully I will be able to mod this phone back and forth.

Safestrap does nothing to the kernel or the original stock ROM so it does not affect any of the secure features. It is similar to a dual boot on a PC.

Kingo is just one click and it is done. Just download the program to your PC. Connect your phone and run the program. it tells you what you need to do and all that is, is to confirm a couple of phone responses.
Do you need to be connected to the Internet when you run kingo?

Are you aware of any efforts to port CyanogenMod or other high quality AOSP build to hlteatt? I tried the latest build of CM11 - see http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/90429-cm11-samsung-galaxy-note-3-att/, as the 'assert' command in it's install script specifically permits installing on AT&T variant of Note 3, but without much success. My other favorite - OmniROM, does not support Note 3 at all.

If you want to play with the stock ROM, I suggest that you restore the backup to one of the slots. Then make another backup before you do anything you're not sure of. If you mess anything up, just restore the last backup. If you really mess it up, you have the stock slot to boot from.

I don't think we can do that (yet). The ROM has to be a modification od Samsung's stock ROM. But I feel the same way you do. I'd love Cyanogen and a dozen other ROMs to play with. And one that's super fast and doesn't use much battery. I'm trying X-Note right now. It's fast according to both benchmarks. I'll give it a few days of settling to see how it does on battery.
Hey i have the leaked version of 4.4.2 rom installed on my ATT note 3.
I hear news on the OTA update but i don't see why i need to get it.
I just want to get my phone rooted so i can use some of the applications that require super permissions.
Downgrading to 4.3 build seem like an option but some of the links bring me up to "file was removed because of copyright/somethinglikethat", also i prefer more of a one-click style.
But does anyone know where i can find it? Searching for it leads me to the exact opposite of what im looking for. So hopefully a thread post can help me out.
You can't directly root it as far as I know.
You may end up having to revert to MJ5, install SS and then install one of the 4.4 ROMs we have available.

i read his post, but you can't get safety strap installed properly without having super user permission. If there is no root for the leak i only see the option to downgrade to jb and get root. The process seems tedious and like i said a bunch of the things you need to download, the links aren't workin.
As far as I know, the links are fixed.
Some people like myself are not lazy and have no problem doing tedious things to get their phones to function the way they want.
You may not care about downgrading to upgrade to a custom 4.4.2 ROM with root, but others do.

but i can downgrade this version right and then root this device from jelly bean ?
If your on nc2 there is no root and no going back to jellybean. Bootloaders are locked. So you pretty much stuck on the official kitkat like the rest of us. Even though not for long. I read somewhere that an exploit was found that will permanently unlock the bootloader but it won't be available till August some time. So we need to be patient.

That would be WP dude. WP is why we can perm-root our phones thru the OS and is why it disappears after a reboot (Though you can just re-root using the same KingRoot app as before.) I'm sure you know WP means we can write/install the necessary SU binaries to the system. WP is part of the "firmware" you mentioned.

Just to put it out there - you can use a root app (after rooting your phone ofc) to set SELinux to Permissive so it doesn't keep forcing your phone to reboot. I'm testing it on my phone now. Again it will still disappear after reboot but still a temp work-around.

There's no question he wasn't anywhere near perm root like he initially stated (or unintentionally led people to believe-to me it doesn't matter at this point), but at least he is looking around. A lot of the devs on year old devices like ours and the note 4 have given up. I really hope he discovers something. Dmverity (which I think is still the culprit) is a tough nut to crack.
@jcase will eventually look at the issue, but apparently bootloader unlock is the most likely way around wp. To me that says that wp too hardened at this point and the bl is the better angle of attack. That is both good and very scary. My comments are based upon what jcase has stated recently.
So let me ask this, if I temp root, install an adblock, and reboot, what happens? Clearly ill lose root but will the hosts file get overwritten?

To me temp-root is useless. I mean seriously, who wants to keep re-rooting and re-installing root apps after every reboot? I don't, that's for sure. Without write protection disabled you are going to be very limited in what you can do with any root method you use.
Oh, and I use AdGuard for blocking ads on my Droid Turbo. You don't need root for it to work and it works very well.
