Contacts question. - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Somewhere along the time I did something and it changed a bunch of the icon pictures for the contacts. I want to get them back the stock (letter only) icons. How can I do this.

It happened to me both ways, appearing then disappearing as I changed roms. Maybe it's the G+ app, did you use it recently?

No. I've even changed roms and still the same.

Open Overclocker (WTF >_>)

I find it strange that this App seems to try to open itself upon startup.....even after I have wiped twice switching ROMs. How is it even on there?

Probably stores information somewhere else on the phone than normal. adb shell your phone and look for it manually

Hmm odd.. I wrote that app and I made an activity that starts on startup the normal way... not sure why it would still be there after a wipe... *shrug*
I had a similar issue with another app. No matter how many times I wiped, there it was. I think the Market got "wonky" and was downloading it each time I started up for the first time after a wipe. Almost seemed the market website didn't get notified of the successful download/install and was trying to "finish" the download upon signing back on.
whats the problem? uninstall it if you don't like it. personally, I think its a great application and I use it daily.
What should you keep your settings on with this app, both high and low. Also after applying the numbers do you need to reboot?

Seems like a silly question, but do you use apps on SD card.
One of my favorite features of doing that is that I dont actually have to reinstall after wiping, just redo the simlink
Argh! Stupid browser double posting

That depends on personal preference. I keep mine at 528/528 'cause I like me some speed
EDIT: forgot the second half of your post, you don't need to reboot after applying.
ive never been able to get open over clocker to do ANYTHING, i put values in the box hit apply and nothing happens... reboot... cpu at same speed.... its like the button just does nothing, tried the standalone app and dudecake.9 with it integrated. it hasnt ever caused me any problems and removing it worked fine for me, it just never did much of anything at all for me
are you using the dude's build? he included the app in his builds until this last build

Personal Contact Photo

Has anyone had a problem with their personal contact photo sticking? When viewing my messages, I notice more often then not that my photo that I use as my icon doesn't show up. However, it is shown in my contacts list.
If anyone has come across this, is there a fix? I've notice this problem with many roms.

Ever since I rooted 2.1 and every ROM I've tried, I've had related issues. My contacts will keep their pictures (which are synced to facebook) but Handcent and the stock messaging app contact pictures slowly start to disappear until they are all gone. So far I've tried the Regaw brute force method that people keep talking about and its worked for the last half of a day or so.
ive had similar issues, dno how to fix them tho
I've found that my contact photo is always there in the people app, but it just kinda comes and goes as it pleases on message threads. I've just gotten used to it since it's always been this way for me. If there is a fix for it, I have no idea what it is.
Just an FYI the whole Regaw Brute thing is working for me, and is going strong now. Lasting longer than any other time since rooting

[Q] Smart actions location trigger bug?

Hey guys,
can you check in smart action, I'm trying to add location trigger. It says no locations, please add by pressing the plus button. But I don't see plus button. May anybody check this?
Plus sign should be in upper right hand corner... good luck

Are you rooted and bloat-frozen (or bloat-deleted)?
The only time I've ever seen what you describe is when I froze "Social Location" thinking "it's just more Verizon social media integration crap". But it's not, or at least not entirely. It's the actual location engine that Smart Actions uses. (That's right, Google's basic location framework isn't good enough. )
Caveats: This was .219 Gingerbread stock and rooted. I haven't tried repeating the performance with .217 ICS stock and rooted.
I fixed the problem, deleted richlocationvzw and lccvzw apks. Restored and all fine

I guess that's it. (I don't know the apk names for the "services" I mentioned... it seems possible that those are the same ones, or the ICS "successors".)
Glad you got it fixed.
To anyone compiling a "de-bloat" list for stock ICS, please note that.

I have latest MIUI. Finally, restored social location from official ICS backup via AppExtractor. But still no "+" sign...

WiFi Icon grey after ICS update

Hi all,
Just updated to stock ICS and now the WiFi icon stays grey all the time suggesting there's no connection to Google's servers.
Funny thing is, syncing is working just fine - Calendar, Gmail, Tasks all updating without problems. The Tab is even appearing in the Google Dashboard with a list of apps that are backed up.
Anybody got any ideas?
I've been reading through all the recent posts, and I seem to be the only one with this problem.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow Apps Blocking MMS

I should probably post this somewhere else because I know it's an issue for more than the Nexus 6, but ever since I updated to 6.0 a few weeks ago I keep having issues sending and receiving MMS. It probably took me a week or more to notice the first time, but after a lot of pulling my hair out for almost a week I figure out it was Ad Away. I uninstalled and all was well. I know I could have messed with the ports in the APN profiles but I didn't want to be bothered.
Last week ES File Explorer updated with their terrible update and aside from the annoying new features, once again MMS stopped working. This was a little easier to pinpoint and once I uninstalled my MMS started working again.
Today I'm having trouble with MMS again. I started searching on the topic again, this time focused on Marshmallow and found a lot of people pointing fingers at Pushbullet. Also found people saying that Chrome was not set as the default browser and that assigning it fixed the problem for them. Luckily that was the case for me and I still have pushbullet (phew).
However, I feel like I'm just scratching the surface on this issue. What's up with Marshmallow that apps keep breaking MMS so easily? Is the Chrome default setting the underlying culprit here? I didn't check it the first two times but I'm wondering if I can reinstall other apps now haha. Obviously it'll be the first thing I check the next time this happens -_- but I'd like to understand what's happening better.
So do any of you smarter-than-me people understand this?
Update: I wasn't imagining things haha.

No0 the chrome issue is not really a big deal. I dont have it set as mine and mms works fine. The pushbullet thing is a known issue. Are you using a 3rd party sms app?
I was having the same issue, nothing exoctic installed, using stock messenger. I played with the apn settings to no avail. I ended up installing chomper and haven't had a problem since
none

Are you using the stock message app? not that you should have to put a different messaging app on your phone to fix the issue, but purely from a troubleshooting perspective have you tried that? Personally I didn't care for the stock app so when the Stagefright terror came about I switched to Textra and have been there ever since. It really is an awesome MMS app, maybe give that a go and see what happens, and once you use Textra, I doubt you will want the stock app.

Was just curious if something was clearing Chrome and causing this to happen, and if maybe I had known about this and tried it the last two times I wouldn't have had to uninstall anything.

Using the stock Google Messenger app. I tried using Hangouts as the default SMS app but it happened there too. I hate SMS/MMS so I really want to avoid downloading any additional apps haha. I usually try to force people into using an instant messenger but you know how people can be. It's just annoying because I usually don't even get a notification that I'm missing messages. I just open conversation and it says "tap to download" or "downloading..."
I'm working fine now so maybe the next time it breaks and Chrome as the default browser isn't the fix it I will explore some third party apps, it just seems like this is a "thing" with Marshmallow.

I had the same issue. Got my nexus 6, before even setting it up, I rooted and installed marshmallow pure nexus. I'm on T-Mobile. I had 3 apn's under settings. The fast-tmobile had mmsc blank. The 3rd apn had T-Mobile mmsc filled. I copied that, pasted it into the fast-tmobile apn, clicked save, then deleted the other 2 apn's. I use hangouts, and since doing that, I've had zero issues at all. If I change roms, its the first thing I do. I'm more inclined to believe it's in your apn. Many people have had the same issue. I went back to 5.1.1 and took the ota. Mms was broken and I had to apply the same fix. Still on the stock ota, and all has been well. Good luck
