I'm having a problem installing CM 7.1 and all the speed/memory tweaks. Ive used MANY different roms with alot of tweaks but this one i driving me crazy. Im trying to install CM 7.1 in CWR 2.5.0.7 with the following tweaks...Firerats 1.5.9 auto patcher and KERN 2.6.35.14-10sept-v1 .....the problem is that i can not get it to boot!!!! if i dont install firerats the rom doesnt boot and goes back to CWR...if i do install firerats the screen just hangs on the htc logo...but without the tweaks CM7.1 boots fine
Please help!!
I did the following with success (this is from memory, hopefully I don't miss anything), I'm using firerats 1.5.8. I did not use a single fr patcher.
First, I flashed the firerats REMOVE zip, just to make sure I was really starting over. then flashed the latest CWM unofficial recovery...5.0.2.6.
rebooted to recovery after each step above though, and repeated wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache.
for firerats, had the mdpartmap settings at 125, 20 (just being extra cautious there, I'm seeing some lower numbers bandied about).
Anyway, from the pretty blue recovery screen, I then flashed fr-recovery, (I think it tells you to reboot to recovery again when done, possibly wiping again, anyway, it tells you) then flashed cm 7.1, gapps, kernal, and finally, fr-boot.
Seems I've heard of folks having some difficulty if they don't use a newer recovery, perhaps others can chime in on this.
After some initial settling in and reboots (it was a little hot at first, a few things were a little flakey), everything seems to be running great. I've only had it on here a few days, and I have not tweaked any performance settings, but so far, gps has been rock solid (isn't this ALWAYS a sticky point for some?) and runkeeper has stopped being so crash happy. Need to see how these things behave with age. A clean installation fixes a lot of things for awhile.
Okay, fired up gps status app, and boom, reboot. But like I said, haven't tweaked any performance settings, left everything at defaults. Will tinker eventually.
wow!!! thank you so much for the very fast reply. I am at work at the minute but i am going to try this ASAP!! Thanks again.
I will keep you informed as to how this worked out. Looks like it should work though
Ok thats awesome!! i got it all to work but i can not get android market to work. I just get FC everytime.
Is there a fix for this?

Hmm, not sure, did you use the gapps from the OP for CM7.1? Could try redownloading that and flashing it again.
also, what were your firerat settings in the partmap file? Just checking, in case you didn't use mine, which were generous, as I said.
That rather larger second number in the partmap file resolves a lot of market issues, I never have to apply any "market fixes"
My fault. I used 125 2 in the mtd instead of 125 20....worked great!!! now i can use the market...thank you so much!!! just have ooooooonnnneeeeee other small problem.
Now by busybox wont work. Keep saying no root access when obviously i do...and also i can not fix permissions in rom manager..theres always a problem eh.
Hope you can help...you've been great so far!!! got loads more internal space now
Hrm...I have to admit to never using busybox, at least not directly, I usually just install it if asked when I install/update Titanium Backup (after checking the allow unknown sources in applications settings). Are you trying to execute busybox from terminal or something? Apologies if you tried this but if you have Titanium (you should if you don't), then do this:
Go to titanium backup, go to problems then it will install busybox
I just cut and pasted that from ... somewhere.

So I finally figured it out. I downloaded the cm nightly instead of stable and everything worked great.
Thank you so much for your help!!!

Just wanted to say. Just installed the new cm nightly and the new jaybobs kernal ....amazing...the new kernal is super fast and every body should use it! Its the Oct 22 build..I'm flying now
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Hi all,
this is my first post so first of all I want to say how amazing this community is !!
I've installed gingerDX v018 just following the xda instructions and all has gone smoothly.
Anyways, I'm posting 'cause sometimes my x8 reboots by itself, usually during the night (each time I heard the logo animation alert ). I guess the timing is not significant, but it happens quite every night.
Do you have any idea of what could it be?
There is some x8 log I could read from or may I use the terminal emulator app?
P.s. I didn't flash the kernel, so I'm still using the stock K. No overclocking apps (not yet).
Do a full wipe. The GingerDX thread says there's no need to do a full wipe after update, that must have confused you.
if what Chris95X8 said dosnt work then your stuck for a while until someone makes a -all-in-one sorta fix. i used to have this problem and after a while it rebooted itself and it got stuck in a bootloop so do the full wipe as soon as posible imo.
i did a full wipe and now its back to normal. no more auto reboots either now.
if that dosnt work then reinstall the rom.
I thought I did. I mean, after the installation I did a full wipe to avoid reboot looping I experienced during my first time installation.
My installation steps actions:
- installed v018 zip
- installed extra zip
- ran Factory Reset (full wipe) option
- ran Wipe cache partitionoption
- reboot phone
Did I miss any steps?

In the meanwhile this w/e I'll try to disinstall one app at a time, to see if there are some conflict. It has rebooted just 5 minute ago.
i read that u can try to use another memory card for awhile to check if the problem still happening.
i got the same problem too, and i tried using another memory card but it still happens. lastly, i sent it to the shop and the shop send it to the factory and it gonna take 3 weeks until i got my phone back..

ok, some answers show that it is either the rom or battery, they also suggest to have it sent off to have it looked at, see if anything is mucked up or something. sorry if it isnt much but its all i could find so far

Thank you wilbso, sending it off will be my very last resource. Anyway for now I've removed weather widget from the lockscreen and Homescreen, just to exclude any (?) refreshing data problems. Next step will be to install some task killer and so on.
I'll write if anything work it out!
Coverage
How's coverage in your area?
I had frequent reboots on low signal areas (very bad) and the phone tried to connect 3G to check e-mail. Anyway, after each reboot, I cleaned dalvik and cache, and then eventually it went away after moving from CM7 to GingerDX.
I think another possible problem is the ram cuz you said that you dont use task killers so the problem may be the low ram(every gb problem)if you confirm that this is the problem i sugest you should use advanced task killer form market
I don't think it's a ram problem, I suggest a full wipe an pay attention when you restore, do not restore system app or app data, the problem could be there...
crazy x8. Full wipe is the solution for prob in almost cases in x8 using custom roms. Wierd
@Chris_Castro:
2g signal looks stable, 3g poor, but at home I'm using wi-fi. But just to be sure I'll check the force 2G signal option, so we will see.
@X8invisible13:
I had the same idea yesterday, so I've installed Memory Booster - RAM Optimizer, here my ram data:
total memory: ~ 175MB
memory avaiable: ~26MB
and reading here and there they look to be average values. But one of the next tests will be to install the latest gingerDX rom, or some other cool roms and test each app at a time.
@evil_chris:
mmm, I'm quite the noob here, so I don't have any backup data or backup apps. I was playing around with HS/LS, sliders, icons when I experienced first problems, so had no time to deepen backup systems.
But I got what do you mean, so as I said, the next installation will be a naked one.
Last episode happened yesterday morning, I checked the locked screen, w/o unlocking it, and after 20 sec it rebooted. Just after I logged in it rebooted again
Anyways Thanks guys
I Cleaned Dalvik and cache, and removed the overclock and now looks good

I dont't know if this helps but in the thread for the patcher app it was mentioned that if you needed to dual boot with a TW based rom it would need to be the primary in order for it to work properly otherwise the mods would need to be patched before flashing.

I swt tw as primary patched cm12 and gapps. But recovery was freezing so i tried to manually paych the file as stated. But than when i got to flash vie recovery it says fail. I have no idea what to do since i did exactly as it said.
My guess would be try asking in the dual boot thread. Others have gotten it to work.

I managed to get it to flash but....
after i manually patch the gapps and rom, i flash the two files successfully and then i reboot into my secondary rom. I set the kernel then i set up my rom up with the apps i use. I went into the dual boot patcher app and tried to dual boot to my primary rom, it says "please wait"...then it says successfully switched ROM..but it never switches back to my primary rom. Any ideas?

I can't believe it's taken me this long to get into trying to dual boot my phone... both my desktop and laptop have ridiculous multi-boot schemes
The main reason I haven't yet delved into this is a fairly simple question that I haven't been able to find the answer to: How much free storage space is required / will be used by installing an additional ROM and on which partition(s)?
I'd really appreciate if anyone who has this working could fill me in on that info
BTW another great thread with instructions, etc. is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/dual-boot-n910f-snap-dragon-variant-t3065211

AOSP roms has very small footprint, that's why they are insanely fast... The roms itself with gapps only takes about a gigabyte, if it's CM or other aosp roms. If you dual boot 2 TW roms, of course it's gonna take huge space. It also depends on how many apps you are going to install on the second rom
hello. I rooted and spliited my sd in 2 partition just to use link2sd and speed up my phone that was running out of memory. First, and sorry if somebody could find it off topic i must say the developer uses a quite dishonest approch because he does nt say (neither in any guide i read) that in the free version you basically can't move the very stuff that you can t move with android so basically the free version is useless; after you do all that job to root your phone you can t certainly stop there just for 2 bucks.. Anyway, after i installed everything correctly and linked my first apps i reached 800 mb of free space over 2 gb of total inernal memory, but the phone and particularly the games were lagging more than usual. If i link messenger it stop to work. And the worst thing: 2 days ago i installed google earth and while using it i received a advice i was running out of memory (but i had 600mb free before running earth) literally to 0!! and i thoight earth was using too much cache. Instead the cache was only 7 mb and there is no explanation about what ate all that space, cause neither android or link2sd see any big app or anything... the phone is running really bad, since i installed this damned program. Any suggestion before i restore factory settings?? thanks.
I never used Link2SD, expect when I wanted to play games like GTA San Andreas
Sadly maybe because of the ROM you are using. Some provider ROMs (for example Telekom) are buggy
You could try other ROMs, like Illuminated that can be found in here XDA
or the easiest way buy a better phone

about the roms you suggested me: wich one is better (more stable, more fluid)? After installing one of these roms, will be there some tools or functionalities i won t be any more able to use? Like the play store, or other apps i use?

Finally i managed to install illuminated. But now i have problems with it. Everytime i reboot the phone every widget and icon i put in the desktop disappear, also, even if i organised in a logic way the icons in the menu, after rebooting the phone re-organizes them in a chaotic way.
The phone was initially smooth, after i began to move apps with link2sd everything began to be laggy as before. i ve been days on this smart phone just to have again the same problem than before.
I can not curse enough the day i decided to install Link2sd and follow your advice. My smart phone it s incredibly slow, and i can see any file in the sd from my Pc even using pc companion. I think i m going to reset everything. Too much time wasted for this f****d object.
Somebody can please explain to me how to reset Illuminated?
Basically, I had to do a battery pull on my LG D415, after the better pull, I booted up the device like I normally would. After starting the device, I am now experiencing an issue where I am unable to get past the CM13 boot logo, where it will continue the booting animation with the CM13 logo, and then the device will just shut down. Attached is a video of this happening.
Is this essentially the inevitable bootloop that is found in many Android devices? If so, how can I go about fixing the issue? I had a lot of stuff on the device and would prefer to not have to reflash anything, as I spent already hours setting up the device in the first place.

Usually a bootloop restarts your phone or doesn't pass the CM (in this case) logo.. I think u can classify as bootloop nevertheless.. u can try reflashing the same version of cm13 on top of that.. you maybe won't loose anything important but I don't know what you had done in your device.. it's just my opinion..

I don't know.. again it's your decision.. but if your going to flash, try 1st without Gapps.. if they don't stay then flash Gapps.. btw I saw u want to download cm13.. that's a bummer because cyanogen is over.. they closed CyanogenMod OS. Thanks for the advice, I'll go ahead and take a look at it! As long as it's stable, and good to use as a daily driver, it works for me.
Though, I am currently having an issue with booting into TWRP to flash the ROMs, as I keep trying the volume up + power button steps to get into recovery, but it's just sending me directly to the CM13 loading logo. And because I can't even get into CM13 because of the boot issue, I am not sure if I can connect the device to a computer... Any advice on how I can fix this issue?

Haha silly me, yes volume down + power did the trick. I always get confused with that because it seems to be different for many devices. Yeah as I posted in my other thread, this phone is meant for a friend who uses it daily, it sounds like that lineage 13 is pretty much fit for the task? Would it receive updates in the future? I am always open for trying other ROMS of course, as long as they are 100% working and have no issues/

Yeah as I posted in my other thread, this phone is meant for a friend who uses it daily, it sounds like that lineage 13 is pretty much fit for the task? Would it receive updates in the future? I am always open for trying other ROMS of course, as long as they are 100% working and have no issues/

As it is now lineage 13 is the best option for stable.. But dont expect updates on 13.. Later you can use 14.1 but now it have some issues..

Oh okay, thanks! I'll go ahead and just do a fresh install since I forgot this phone has an SD card, so the majority of the data needed is already there. Thanks for your help! I'll keep looking at 14.1 and rest of the Nougat ROMs, and consider flashing it if they become stable soon.

Its power button and volume down.. I read that ur going to give your L90 To another person.. I think u should not flash nougat Roms yet.. they are still "beta ish" Roms.. Instead try this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298925163
Its a unofficial build of lineage 13 made by @slimshadys and is basically cm13 last nightly made.. should be very stable.. cumps

So I installed lineage OS, but for some reason can't provide root access to apps? Attached a screenshot, not sure why it's not allowing me to select apps, and only showing ADB...
EDIT: No idea how, but the SIM card reader stopped working... I tried flashing another ROM just to see if it was lineage, but it wasn't. The phone is still under warranty, but I assume if I send it back it'd have to be unrooted... any idea how I can go about that?

Oh great, thanks! I used to have the old myTouch 4G, and unrooting that phone was such a pain, I nearly spent 6 full hours because of all the steps needed and it was so easy to mess up. This looks pretty straight forward. On the bright side, I now know once I get the phone back I can flash lineage OS and should be good to go.

Before you flash kdz maybe the problem was bootstack.. Dont really know if that was the problem because its supposed to work if you still have a KitKat bootstack installed but try changing that.. Just be carefull to choose the right one..
