Mi4w GPS Issue - Mi 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using mi4w 64gb Indian variant GPS is very poor in reception when comparing to other mobile which is a hardware issue.
But Also there is some config error.
The GPS is not using Glonass and Beidou satellite for location.. it just keeping it idle.(unused satellite)
Can anyone suggest me good config file for Glonass and beidou.
I have already used XDA gps config file no changes it uses maximum one glonass and beidou satellites.
I am located in India.

You've not mentioned which ROM are you on. This could be a ROM issue. Sometimes a clean flash can rectify the error.

I am Smiui with latest version

GPS doesn't work that way, to pin point your location your device needs min 5 GPS satellite signals. Most of the satellites are US. Check out the screenshot, one Beidu is available and it's signal is strong enough so my device has picked up the signal and two out of five Glonass satellite signals has picked up. There are diffrent parameters are present for singal locking. Your hardware is fine as it's locking your position.

GPS using T-Mobile

Bought a Tilt yesterday. Successfully unlocked it for T-Mobile. The only thing I have an issue with is the GPS. I am running Tom Tom 7 on it. Will GPS even work on the T-Mobile network??
GPS doesnt need the network of t-mobile!
Edit: try quickGPS in programs. It takes a few minutes the first time it will connect.
I use tomtom7 on my unlocked tmobile, works great!

GPS function is network independent, as long as you have a open sky and a program with pre-loaded maps, you don't need internet connection.
unlocked tmobile here also...u just need to update andd ownload quickgps every couple of days to gets satelite signals saved..3use nadavi gps tool also to get quicker locks sometimes but makes ure ur gps settings are on com4 9600 baud i think as well

Max GPS satellites in use?

I have both an HTC FUZE (AT&T Touch Pro) and a US Touch Diamond (DIAM110). On my FUZE, TomTom and GPSTest show a maximum of 8 satellites at once in the signal strength meter, yet on the Diamond it shows 13! Do all Diamonds show 13 at once or just the US ones? I am asking because my FUZE has a horrible GPS (long time to fix, drops, lag, etc) yet the Diamond works near perfect.
Do any Diamonds have a bad GPS or do they all work fine? What is the maximum amount of satellites for most diamonds?
Well...My Fuze has 16 satellites 'in view' always...

Incorrect/stale cell tower ID in UMTS mode

I think I have figured out part of a mystery here...
It is well known that there are some GPS problems with the Telus Milestone when unlocked for other networks. I've already rooted my device to replace the Telus SUPL server in the location.conf files with the Google SUPL server. I use my Milestone on Fido.
But this week I have noticed something quite peculiar. I have 2 apps that allow me to view a cell tower ID: one is Tricorder, and the other is Google Maps (under About, myl).
The usual cell tower when I'm in 3G/UMTS mode at home in East Vancouver reads as follows in Maps: 302:720:65500:1957869 (in Tricorder, appears as just 1957869)
In 2G/EDGE mode: 302:720:16000:57322
Here is the strange thing. I leave for school, take the bus to UBC, 45 minutes away. I open up Tricorder. My cell tower still appears as 1957869. I am way too far from home to possibly be on the same tower. And, not surprisingly, when I open Maps it first pinpoints my location in the vicinity of my home in East Van.
If I activate 2G only mode, wait about 10 seconds, and then deactivate it, Tricorder and Maps will now show a completely different cell tower ID - at which point Maps starts behaving properly again.
Why is my phone passing stale tower IDs to apps? This would go a long way to explain the GPS problems I still have.
That's a known bug of 2.1 rom for milestone. There's a minor updated rom (hk .34) that solves the problem, which is an agps bug.
That's pretty annoyng... you should turn gps on, that's it...
Im waiting for froyo...

Yes, GPS is on, but the problem is that Android seems to default to taking the cell tower ID first (stale), then GPS. It's perfectly capable of using wifi geolocation but it seems to place greater faith in the stale cell tower ID. So when I open Maps or another location aware app, it will believe for anywhere from 5-60 seconds that I'm still in the old location.
Interesting to hear the HK version has it fixed. Of course I can't use an HK ROM on a Telus Milestone without losing 3G.
*But*... is it possible the module containing the fix (kernel?) could be packed up alone into an SBF file for flashing, without overwriting the rest of the firmeware?
I should add: In EDGE mode, Tricorder detects the cell ID of 2 other nearby networks. In UMTS mode, Tricorder only seems to see one cell ID, and the other two slots are filled with "-1". So not only does it report the wrong cell ID to software, but it also provides no context for self-correction...
Hy,
You do not loose the ability of being on a 3g network. I use a hk nandroid backup w/ some tweaks and works fine on my 3g carrier (not .36 tho).
Ciao,
G.
Exit: read about the frequencies issues in the other thread. So, yeah, hk will not work in canada! ;(

I just installed the new Thai version released by GOT. Other bugs appear to be fixed. According to Tricorder I'm still only seeing one UMTS cell ID... and unfortunately that ID is -1 right now. Airplane mode, then off again, now I see 1951258.
I won't be able to tell if goes stale until I actually leave the house today though So let's get on that...
I tentatively report that this issue is *fixed* in the new releases from Group of Ten. On the new Thai firmware I am able to see changes in the UMTS cell ID. The Maps app seems to provide a better approximate "first guess" than it used to, even without a GPS lock.
how exactly does the tricorder work cmstlist? I dont understand what the -1 means and the larger number ontop of the -1.

In Tricorder, press "EMS" to get cellular and wifi data.
On my phone, the first line under cellular says:
1962*** Fido 16
(Cell tower ID, provider, signal strength)
There are 2-3 tower IDs that show up for my particular location consistently. If I see those IDs when I'm way across town then I know it's incorrect.
The second and third lines both say -1. I think it's just that the OS isn't providing the app any additional tower info. In 2G mode I see three different tower IDs sometimes.
Mines only seeing one tower but its signal strength is 21... good or bad?
Normal. I think for some reason the Milestone just doesn't pass on more than one tower ID at a time to the software in UMTS mode.
I think mines defective anyways... gonna return it for a different one on tuesday.

[Q] O4X Weak Cellular Network Reception (Particularly 3G)?

Hi,
I have my O4X since Feb in India. My room is in corner of my house so reception is generally on weaker side. But I have noticed that my O4X has weaker reception as compared to other phones, even cheaper Chinese android phones get better reception than this.
Coming back to problem, using same network sim in both my O4X and my Xolo (cheap android phone), at same place at same time I get 3 out of 4 bar of reception in Xolo, whereas my O4X shows either no bar or just a single bar out of 5 bars. I tried different operators, different sims but this reception scenario remained same, all are 3G network sims. While on 2G network I don't really see any issue with reception. I am getting insane as to what is causing this issue, I have noticed this thing since day one, with ICS, JB, now I am at CM 10.1.
Is this a common issue with this phone? Does it have weaker radio/reception? Or is it with my handset only? Shall I give it in for repairs? What you guys suggest?
Thanks in advance for all the suggestions that will come my way..
I am from India too. I think you are using any phone cover, maybe. It makes problems. For me it happens. I always remove my phone's cover when using net. Also, there are some network frequency that receives low signal. I am using Reliance 3G. I am in west bengal state. In my house west bengal network works well. In my friend's house kolkata specific signal receiveing is well. Also, in his L5 kolkata network's frequency works out well and in my 4X wb is better. When he came to my house he has no signal reception in wb network but I was using it well and I got to his house I had no signal or bad signal reception in Kolkata network.
In short everything is device specific but our device has better network reception. You can try to set network manually.

I do use a mobile cover, will try it without that. I have used Reliance 3G, Airtel 3G and MTNL 3G all in this phone and generally notice a weaker network as compared to other phones at the same place using same network. I have also noticed lately that generally it gets a normal signal when its kept on bed but as soon as I touch my phone signal drops significantly, sometimes from 3-4 bars to 1 bar immediately. And as soon as I take my hand off of it signal improves.
Well, I am not sure what to do now, will try to use without cover and see. Else it will go for repairs. Only reason I havent sent it for repairs yet is because of unlocked bootloader, will have to relock it and flash to stock before I do. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Coverage Connectivity Issue

Hi
Recently updated my dev to final build of Pie , screen's attached , am getting very poor network coverage in most of the locations and getting decent coverage in some . Same s happening with WiFi also , is it because of our specs are outdated comparing with others or is it me having modem or firmware with poor features .
Sim 1 Airtel with Volte
Sim 2 BSNL
No, it's just a visual calibration issue/difference between the ROMs. There's actually no difference in physical signal strength of you look under the hood.
