i need a way to root my zr because i am sick of low internal memory
i am gonna wipe the damn bloatwares
KingRoot should probably work, though that'll install KingUser instead of SuperSU. Best option might be to flash a stock based kernel with TWRP built in (you should be able to find one on the forum), and flash the SuperSU zip.

try kingroot and replace it by the supersu by this http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-zr/general/root-xperia-zr-5-1-1-kingroot-t3250656
By the way, forgot to say this: wiping the bloatware will not free up any internal memory; it will only free up space in the /system partition. Try Link2SD and/or FolderMount.

The newer versions of Kingroot cannot be removed by this method. You need to get an older version before they integrated everything into a single APK. Only phones rooted by that APK can be converted to SuperSU cleanly.
This is my experience. Rooted more than a month ago.
Your mileage may vary.

Wiping bloatware from system will free up internal memory to the extent of corresponding DEX files of the system application.

Yes, but if memory serves, it's not enough to make any significant difference; might get space for one or two more apps.

I am constantly hitting 'low memory - system functions may not work' error. So every bit counts.
It is not that low. Altogether I have freed more than 150 MB I guess. Forgot to keep the exact total.

Well, my ZR is no longer functional, so I can't say, but if you have storage problems, you may want to invest in Link2SD and FolderMount; they're the only things that allowed me to use the phone as more than, well, a phone. I swear, 16/32 GB internal and a tougher display, and the thing would have been flawless. Ah, well.

If we install/uninstall any apps, will the uninstall really clean/delete all the files from the system memory? For PC software sometimes it leaves something in the registry key or system directory.
Will Android has the same issue?

althou android doesnt have a registry.. i have seen that some apps leave their custom folders and files in the usb storage... which i have to find and delete manually.. mainly games and other apps that download data after installation
I'm also interested to know about this too...with Windows I'm pretty careful with what to install as I don't like too many un/installs...curious to know how Android handles many un/installs...

Based on my experience there are many leftovers even after un-install. One suggestion is to use the 'Clear Data' button before uninstalling an app. However, even after this there will be leftovers esp in the sdcard\Android folder.
Left over under Android folder still manageable, my worry is it left something in the restricted folder where we have no access unless we root. Is matter of time run out of internal memory until factory rest.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
it depend on what kinda that you use. some apps will left empty folders when you uninstall it.
same here
I actually have the same worry with my phone since I keep on trying different apps.. I just "clean data" and "clean cache" for the app before I uninstall it and I dont have problems with that..
The tool that I use is SDmaid. It helps me in identifying leftover folders and app debries. You can automatically delete them using the app.
Worked fine for me.

I tried SD Maid, it did help to free out at least 200+Mb of internal memory. Cool..

Most of the time, the biggest "trash" SD maid cleans up is the Gallery thumbnails..
Soooo when you startup your gallery app again, it regenerates the thumbnails so youre back to square one.. LOL
I am referring to internal memory, it freed up about 200+MB from program cache. Correct, the thumb view file (another 200+MB) from gallery reside at sd card will rebuild after delete.
Funny thing is wipe cache at CWM won't free up the internal memory.

For a specific case...
phone had installed the free version of AutomateIt.
Uninstalled it by: "clear cache", "clear data", force stop", and then "uninstall". Then rebooted phone.
A bit later searching the storage noticed a "AutomateIt" folder in Device Storage.
The AutomateIt folder contains a subfolder "Backups", which contains 3 files (all .AiR files). (two are 1kb, one is 0kb) .
Is it safe to manually delete these files and folders?
Are there any apps similar to SDmaid but for unrooted phones? (no root yet for Atrix HD, so not even an option)
Some apps leave behind files or folders no matter what you do. I just manually remove them using a file explorer.
This is my observation. Hope this helps.

Another good reason to do a full wipe prior to installing a new ROM!
wipe cache THEN make backup. profit!
YMMV depends on how many apps you have installed. universal; no reason this wouldn't save space on any given other phone.
Honestly brilliant. Lol

Yea, but you still lose app cache data so you may have to redo certain things
I have a 64gb SD, so space isn't an issue. I rather have the extra 150mb taken up and have my system restored exactly to the point it was backed up as

I don't have an external sdcard. My phone has a lot of
internal memory free. How can I move my apps to
internal memory? Is that possible? BTW, I am using the

I am using SGSA I9070 16gb variant. Application memory is 2gb. I have got more than 5gb of internal memory free. Hence i am not using an external sdcard. My application memory is 75% full. So I am asking about moving my apps or part of them to internal memory.
Sorry! Moving apps to external sdcard is not an option for me, as i don't have an external sdcard. So please don't point me towards instructions about moving apps to external sdcard.

In 4.4 janice/codina ROMs, there's the flag dalvik.vm.dexopt-data-only=1 as default in build.prop (yeah it's named dalvik but doesn't matter what runtime are you using). This means that data partition contains user apps' classes.dex+system apps' (including gapps, more complete gapps package=heavier=more space occupied+more dalvik cache) classes.dex, where as default is data partition=user apps' classes.dex/cache partition=system apps' classes.dex
For example:
40~50 (maybe more) apps installed (including their classes.dex) 1.8~1.9 GB
25 apps installed+that flag in build.prop = out of memory
Just in case: classes.dex = ART/dalvik cache-executable

Reboot the phone. It's possible your Memory Card has reached the end of its lifespan. SSDs don't last forever. After they die, you can only Read and not Write.

It's not about the age mate. It's about how many times, data has been written onto it. I think the limits on newer SSDs are about 10000000 times. I'm not sure, I read about that back in School during Computer class.

Some previous devices of mine needed to format the sd card after using it for something else.
Yes, that's correct. I didn't use it that much, there's no way this is the problem. Besides, at the end of it's lifecycle the memory starts to slow down, but you can still use it.
In my case it works, i can listen to music and install apps from it without any problems, but i can't copy or delete anything.

By the way, use the exFAT file system, it's 64 Bit and more efficient than FAT or FAT32 and is supported by most Android phones. I use exFAT on all my phones.

On kk and lp there are a limitation to use the sdcard from installed apps, the only app that have write permision is the File commander that comes preinstalled. If you wan's to have full rw you must be rooted and install "SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD" app from the PlayStore. After running the app and making it rw you can uninstall this app, and you will have rw access on sd.

Yeah, this is the exact problem. I tried File Commander and it works. It would be nice to have full access, but i'm on locked bootloader and rooting is too big of a hassle.
This is the only way to get write access. You can get root without unlock the bl with the giefroot from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3011598

Do it again after a reboot. If issue not solved then you have to backup your data and Factory reset.
