Titanium Backup is what you need. You'll also need root for that.

Hiding Apss

I use app vault to remove apps from my app drawer that I do not use often. Restoring them is quick when I need to.
I could delete them now that I am rooted, but some of them are convenient at times.
The only issue I have is I have to reboot the phone to refresh the app drawer after hiding a app. Restoring is not an issue.
Any ideas on how to force a refresh of teh app drawer without a reboot?

Use Launcher pro.... No reboot needed to achieve the same result.

I agree, use launcherpro.
+1 launcher pro.
agreed launcher pro has that ability to hide apps in the app drawer, with no reboot required...
Also Titanium Backup allows you to "Freeze" and "UnFreeze" apps. For those that dont want to use Launcher Pro, yet still hide apps.

new app shortcuts on home screen

For every app I install, a shortcut is automatically added to a home screen. It's not a huge deal since it takes a second to delete, but I'm curious if there's a way to prevent this happening and just have the shortcut in the app drawer? I cannot find anything in the settings to turn of the "feature".

why don't you check google play settings ? there is a checkbox for that (checked on by default)

Go to the Play Store -> Settings and uncheck Add icon to Home screen.
Duh... I totally forgot about the play settings! There I was looking in the phone/launcher settings. Thanks.

Just disable all apps which appears when you tap 'open settings'.
And from 'more options' disable system apps too.
You must be good to go.
Thank you its working.
I got the same issue.
It caused by facebook messenger apps.
When the application asks for permission, there will be a permission pop up display on screen, if there is any application run with screen overlay mode (just like facebook messenger or its chat head) , It will overlap the permission pop up and users will not be able to see it. After a few hour workaround with it. I found the way to resolve it without disable the screen overlay that is close the facebook messenger as well as its chat head then try again with the apps with require permission.
If the problem still occurs, Press the "List" button and end all the background applications.

Protected apps

I want to use an app, but it needs to be running in the background, as it tracks BLE regions.
How do I get to Protected apps on this phone, did search but can not find it?
go to recent apps (swipe up and hold) and then swipe down the app you want to lock

Mi 9t Pro MIUI 11 - notification issue and question

Hi there.
I don't know if it is normal, or not...
I bought a calendar app.
I was not able to receive any notification (bubble + sound). I could receive them if I clicked on the app to run it tho...
So I tried everything and now, it works !
Through, I need your help to see if everything good and seems normal for you.
I had hold my calendar app and "app info". And then, I had go to each permission and enable what I have colored in orange circle :
Battery saver https://imgur.com/OPoSxPL
Notifications https://imgur.com/uyP3axZ
Other permissions https://imgur.com/ssLgM0N
Enable auto start https://imgur.com/mEIyeZn
And then, enable two settings https://imgur.com/2lHHy29
And now, I'm able to receive all notification (bubble + sound) when I kill app.
Also it works if I restart the smartphone and unlock it to go to the home screen. But it doesn't work if I disable "autostart"
I have to do the same with messenger, reddit app.
Please, let me know if everything seems normal for you.
Should I do it with all social app ? Like facebook, whatsapp, snapchat, instagram ?
How about the drain battery ?
Thanks very much (excuse my english)
I had the same problem with yours when my first time using miui. I did the same steps with messanger apps (etc whatsapp & telegram). Plus I locked the apps in the recent app tray. It definitely helps with receiving notification on time in those apps.
I find, that I have to enable more or less all the options to be sure I will get notifications.
What you show on the pictures is OK.
My battery lasts 2 days if I use it normally with some Candy Crush, email, Instagram,... 5-6 hours of screen time
Android 10 broke my Amazfit and Mi Fit notifications. It only works if I uninstall and install again.

Thanks but it is annoying to do it for all and new apps you install.

Screen time is time screen was on.
You "lock app" by pressing left on screen button to see recent apps, long press app you want to lock, select lock icon.

I use fullscreen gestures and Nova Launcher that's why I can't see this feature...
