Dear "",
Thanks for reaching out to Motorola. I’ve reviewed your e-mail and I’m ready to help.
We do apologize for the inconvenience. Regarding your concerns, Motorola's primary focus is the security of our end users and protection of their data, while also meeting carrier, partner and legal requirements. The Droid Bionic and a majority of Android consumer devices on the market today have a secured bootloader.
In reference specifically to eFuse, the technology is not loaded with the purpose of preventing a consumer device from functioning, but rather ensuring for the user that the device only runs on updated and tested versions of software. If a device attempts to boot with unapproved software, it will go into recovery mode, and can re-boot once approved software is re-installed. Checking for a valid software configuration is a common practice within the industry to protect the user against potential malicious software threats. Motorola has been a long time advocate of open platforms and provides a number of resources to developers to foster the ecosystem including tools and access to devices for developers via Motodev at http://developer.motorola.com.
For the Android 4.0, at this time, we do not have any information if the phone will be updated to Android 4.0.
With your data connectivity concerns, please provide us with the following information so that we can assist you better.
1. Serial number of your device. On the phone's home screen go to Settings > About phone > Status > IMEI number.
You may also follow the link below on how to locate the serial number of your device.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/utils/guided_assistant/g_id/446
2. Software version of the phone.
On the phone's home screen go to Settings > About phone > System version
3. Your Contact number.
We hope that you find this information useful and we look forward to assisting you in the future.
For information about Motorola products and services, please visit us at http://www.motorola.com/
Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support.
Best Regards,

Why didn't you unlock the Bionic's Bootloader with the last update. You have promised to make motorola's bootloaders unlockable. I started my cell phone adventure with motorola. I have had other phones also, Nokia, HTC, LG. But I wanted to go back to my roots and go back to motorla. Now I see that was a mistake. I had the original droid for my first android phone. Then I went to the HTC Droid Eris, HTC Droid Incredible, Samsung Fascinate, and now your piece of crap Droid Bionic. I have never had a phone that was so flawed. Not to mention you released the Razr just a couple months after the Bionic. I am now screwed. I have a worthless phone that still drops data even after you put out an update that was supposed to fix that issue for the next 2 years. I am going to be forced to return to HTC for my cellular needs. And in the process of changing over I will have to now spend over $500 Because of your locked bootloader, I now cannot make the modifications needed to make the phone useable for my needs and also I cannot fix your mistakes in the programming to make the phone stable. Now for my last question / segustion. Since the RAZR has been released, I know you will not make putting android 4.0 on the Bionic a priority. When will you be releasing the android 4.0 update for the Bionic?? Also, when you do, if you do finally release android 4.0 for the Bionic I segust that you make the bootloader unlockable. This way I am no longer restricted and forced to use your flawed software. Google's Android OS is a Open Source Project. Who are you to close it and restrict its usage and capabilities. In doing so you have forced the public to use a piece of equipment that is flawed with no way or means of correcting the issues.
To be honest, I cannot believe that Google has not reamed your asses and filed law suits against the companies that lock their bootloaders and do not offer a way to unlock. Even if it voids the manufacture warranty the option should still be there. Android is Open Source and why do you have the right to restrict it?!
To sum this up.
1: I want an explanation on your bootloader and I want it unlocked. (Believe me I am not the only one)
2: When will Android 4.0 be released on the Bionic?
3: Statement: I am about to leave Motorola for good. I have had the worst experience ever with this phone and I am now on my third phone which is on its way just because you cannot fix your Data Drop issue. I require a reliable phone for work and this phone has been all but that.
Thank You

I'm not really sure how "we do not have any information" qualifies as confirming anything.
This is the link for their ICS upgrade schedule:
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
If you read the descriptions for each stage, they state that the early stage does not guarantee an update. The comment in the response email was a carefully prepared legal statement to avoid hinting at anything.
I would be surprised if we don't see an ICS update, though it's always possible that it wont happen.
For the Android 4.0, we do not have any information if the phone will be upgraded at this time.
In that statement they used if instead of when. That says to me that they promised ics and advertised the phone as ics upgradeable and now don't know if they are going to do it or not. The key word in this is if. If and when are 2 totally different words. The original question was when and they comeback with ( no info if phone will be upgraded.) It raises questions.
Side note: they advertise a phone as ics upgradeable, but once you buy it you find out that its not even available to download. One must wait and hope and prey that their device is not forgotten about because in just 3 months time a newer phone has been released. I'm not new to smartphones or rooting or roms. I know I have to wait before I even buy the phone but the general public that just uses phones and has no idea what rooting is has no idea that they are going to have to wait for the upgrade and have to worry that they will even get the upgrade. Bad advertising and miss leading I say. (Rant Over)

Im pretty sure they will release ICS for Bionic. I mean all the newer Motorola Devices (I.E RAZR, Droid 4, Xyboard) run essentially the same hardware in different form, the Omap 4430. Assuming those phones get 4.0 then so should Bionic :s
Ask them this: What percent of revenue does each new Android product represent?
Then imagine what it would be like to reduce their earnings by the lose of one of those products such as the Bionic.
It all about the money!
Motorola's customer service has often said things contrary to the truth. Since the site still says an update is on the way, I tend to believe the site.
All there website says is evaulation and planning.. That does not mean much. It could stay evaluation and planning for the next year. How long does it honestly take to evaluate and plan? No developing stage yet? Wow... Look at the developers that are building ROMs across the spectrum for various phones and brands and yet Motorola can't even get a grip just on there own phones... stepping off my soapbox.
Quoting directly from the link provided to the Motorola site: "As previously communicated, DROID RAZR, DROID RAZR MAXX, DROID 4, DROID BIONIC, DROID XYBOARD 8.2 and 10.1, and MOTOROLA XOOM WiFI + 3G/4G will be upgraded to ICS. Additional details on timing for these products will be shared at a later date."
--
Since I purchased this phone SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE it was advertised as it would be getting a version of ics 4.0, they will have to refund my money so I can get a phone that does run ics. It was critical to my purchase decision.
Do I hear a class action coming if they don't?
Personally I think they will release an ics upgrade as they have said and continue to say. Probably 2nd quarter this year. Development of mass stability is VERY difficult.

Well I don't know if you guys/gals saw, but there was a leaked screenshot from a Best buy computer that shows the Razr and the Maxx receiving its ICS on the 4th of April. This was also confirmed by several emails that went out from Verizon stating there was going to be a software upgrade soon. Its typical they update the new phone first, but maybe its a sign we will get our update soon.

Ya I saw it. Still not the bionic. If we get it I say it will be Oct or Nov before the bionic gets it and that's if it gets it.

I think we'll get it, but definitely not anytime soon.

How's that running? I've heard there's a lot of bug in CM9 on the Bionic. That's why I went to Eclipse instead.

It's not fully-functioning ICS, and you have no video camera, no hw accel, half the games probably don't work right, etc.
I bet the devs we have would be able to port the RAZRs ICS to Bionic faster than Moto could develop it....

For me, I don't play games on my phone and since I work in film/TV, I don't shoot video with my phone either. What I do have is everything else, rock solid data and stable wifi. I haven't gone to my unsafe side since mid-Feb. My point was, you can have a very usable version now and, with the release of the official and full RAZR version, we will have a complete version for our Bionics, whether moto releases one or not.
Sent from my XT875 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
The Bionic is definitely getting the ICS update, just don't know when. I spoke to my cousin when I switched to Verizon to get some info on some phones since he's a developer for Motorola. He was able to get me a Bionic and told me that it will definitely get ICS. He just doesn't have a date for it since right now he's testing ICS on the Razr Maxx.
The list of Verizon and Moto ICS updates has been reviewed and revised a couple times, Bionic making the cut each time. I see it definitely getting the update. As far as Razr and Bionic go theres not a significant difference in source, which helps the Bionic out a lot when it comes to ICS

Are any restrictions for 5L in Razr-I ?
No restrictions on the hardware side. Go forward and do it.
A more serious problem is the missing manpower, to solve some problems because the source is not complete (cf. here).
I am always wondering why people think that it is self evident that someone will make perfect custom rom if the hardware allows it (kudos to them who do).

Thanks a lot for your answer! Until we are wondering we are living. The number of RAZR-I owner who are interesting in L5 is more then who are interesting in proper work of 4.4. beta (acc to threads list ) It is a magic our hardware allowance, isn't it?
If they are really keen on doing it, i'm sure they can. But at this point I just don't think it's worth it. Considering it is a 2 years old device. The more popular S3 didn't even get 4.4 and is stuck at 4.3, and that is around the same age as the RAZR i. They announced the 4.4.2 for RAZR i a long time back, and till now it is not out yet, which shows how little resources are being dedicated to bringing more updates to the RAZR i. I'm pretty sure 4.4.2 update when it does roll out will be the last update for the device.
I would be happy with a 4.4.2 with as little bugs as possible.
there's no hope, i remember in somehow that i read, this is the last upgrade to Ri, there's no more future plans to update this device...
but don't worry, maybe we can port 5L to Ri...
..."maybe"
The phone simply does not Cut it Performance wise. All those Animations...
Hello good people. Doesn't anyone know if the TF701 is getting this upgrade?
We can hope so but I've not seen anything official from Asus.
Highly unlikely imo but you never know. We are approaching the 18 month point that marks the end of official support.

But I think we're just coming up on 12 months, no? Wasn't this device released in November of 2013?
But yes, given the way Asus supported my original TF101, I wouldn't hold my breath on them updating it to L....

September 2013 (I thought it was August but I bought mine in Sep)
So that means soon we will be in month 14.
I feel like Asus abandoned us
I've been holding off putting a third party ROM on my TF701T as Asus had been good about updating other tablets. But I feel like their crappy docking hinge caused lower sales which makes them care very little about this particular product. My guess is we aren't going to see Lollipop officially. Good things there is active development going on.

He (pershoot) has said it a couple of times in his CM thread that he was going to make a lollipop rom, but it was a while ago, and I assume most people forgot about it or something.

I asked the people of ASUS and they said there are no plans a.t.m. for an android 5.0 release
Good news, pershoot released an unofficial cm 12 (android 5) port for tf701t yesterday
droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3671
I've just installed it via cwm recovery.
While I don't want to raise false hope, I just want to share one special brochure made by ASUS Singapore, indicating that there might be a 5.0 update for the tf701t. http://pricewatch.vr-zone.com/itshow/pricelists/view/ASUS7
Hmm, that's interesting. We can only hope.

I just got two updates in the last to days. They usually put out updates before they do a major upgrade like lollipop so I take this as a hopeful sign.

No, these weren't just app updates they were system updates. Got to watch the android dude a little bit both times. After the first my background changed after the second the pulldown changed. Still on 4.4.2
While I was in contact with ASUS support I asked about Android L to the TF701T. First they said that they had no info, but later I got a reply, where they said that the had contacted the RD-department and that ASUS have no plans on releasing Android L for the TF701T.
We can onlu hope that this info is incorrect or ASUS change their minds. They havn'nt made any offical statement at all regaring Android L to tablets, have they?

It doesn't surprise me as we are approaching 2 years. ASUS don't really release updates beyond 18 months. All their latest transformers seem to be using Intel chips for Android as well.
There isn't much talk here about the zenfone 2 laser and everything all info I can find on XDA and other websites about routing the ZF2L seem to be registered to the non US version or discuss only the non laser version.
XDA forum has post for joining the WhatsApp group, but I'm not seeing the point of joining a phone app for a phone that I am going to be rebooting while looking to troubleshoot things with the phone. Maybe they have a solution, and if so post it up here as well as a link.
Has anyone made any headway with rooting this device? Let's get a single thread to focus efforts on getting a workable root for the ZE551kl US version of the Zenfone 2 laser.
It sure would be nice to rid this device of all that bloatware.
I'll be checking back here for good news I hope soon.
Same here. Placing my order soon, and this is the ZF2L model that I want.
I've been poking around for information about the ze551kl also. Mine came yesterday. So far it doesn't seem like anyone is working on root for it yet, but that's probably due to the fact that not very many people own one. The good news is it has been selling out on Amazon and Newegg, so hopefully someone will be able to figure it out soon.
From everything I've gathered so far, the process to root it should be nearly identical to the ze550kl since the hardware is so similar. I imagine that once someone who knows what they're doing looks at it, they'll be able to figure it very easily.
Also, Asus will likely release a bootloader unlocking tool at some point in the coming months. The unlocker for the ze551ml was released sometime around 6 months after the phone came out.

Asus will only release the bootloader unlock when someone from xda discovers it.
Selling out doesn't mean more ownership. Chances are they are only selling a few units to test the waters.

Picked one up yesterday for my pop's. I, too, am hoping that a root may be possible in the near future. I don't like the bloatware and the OS at all. Wish I can slap CM on it.
Subscribed to thread. I hope something turns up eventually. Phone seems very fluid but it comes with loooooots of extra apps, hoping for a CM build soon.
I'm getting exceptional battery life with factory rom- 60% left at end of day yesterday- thats 2 days with same results. Imagine what could happen without bloat! So far- I love this device.
same here ... want root access lol
---------- Post added at 10:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 PM ----------
found only ZE550KL images that give root, but it doesn't exactly work fine on ZE551KL (touchscreen issues due to different density)
http://www.asus-zenfone.com/2015/10/how-to-root-asus-zenfone-2-laser-ze550kl.html
any ideas?
I bought the phone today. It is very fast and fluid.
waiting for good news to obtain root access.
any way to change the green color of the icon of the sim 1?
phone itself is great, I like it so far, but ... I noticed the stock firmware (5.0 still here) the push notifications do not work ever for apps like CNN news, BBC news, UPS delivery manager, not sure yet what blocks them still, I even made sure to allow them auto-start in asus manager thingy.
Also Google Calendar widget doesn't refresh current date, content gets updates, not the date on it lol, ASUS messed up something in stock firmware or some bloatware is interfering.
Also it kinda sucks that phone's wifi card doesn't support 5GHz band at all and no 802.11AC speeds ... my old Samsung Galaxy S3 could run 5GHz band, this one can't.
oh, but I love the LTE speeds now, got almost 50/28 Mbps here around NYC through T-mobile.
Other than that, I love it, I need a root too ...
Really was hoping to root this phone bummed there isn't one for this model. Hopefully someone will come along and save the day.
Following.

Thanks for the link, but that's actually for a different phone model. We are specifically looking for rooting the ze551kl (zenphone 2 laser w/1080p screen and 3GB memory.)
What I did find, is that asus has posted the kernel sourcecode for this phone model. It can be found via the support and downloads page on their site.

Well, now we only need someone to help us with this. If I am not mistaken, the Kernel needs to be set as Permissive (if ASUS phones works the same as Samsung) - then will we be able to get root...

If nobody responds by tomorrow afternoon, I'll dive in to the world of "custom rom making" and see what I can do. I have some programming and some Android experience.
So I have a few questions that searching for answers has either been vague or given me old, outdated articles and answers if any at all. Coming here to see if maybe you guys can help bring some clarity.
I still have not received the November security patch. I'm using an Unlocked Pixel 5 with an AT&T sim. This is the first time I have not been able to get an OTA update on my phone when I saw it was released. I was using the 12 beta on my device but my wife hasn't gotten one either.
Pixel tips mentions the enhanced voice typing on my phone but I do not have it available to me. I am on the Gboard beta program and I briefly got it when it was in it's trial rounds and it works great but is no longer available. Is this a 6/6P exclusive?
Those are the two biggies right now. I know things like magic eraser and stuff are exclusive to the P6 (even though they work perfectly fine on other devices and other features have been tested on non tensor devices). I understand Google needing to incentivize an upgrade to the 6/6P but it's kind of frustrating when features that clearly work or have been tested on older devices are not made available/no longer available on their older devices that are able to run them. Maybe a feature drop in the future will address these issues but the two questions above I'd love some insight on.
Hi. I think I might be able to help. I also have the 5. I am not in the Beta program, however I believe you have to be off the beta program to receive security patches for this lot.
https://9to5google.com/2022/03/07/pixel-march-22-security-patch/#more-475705
The Enhanced typing _is_ something that is exclusive to the P6 because of the on board processing available via Tensor. That was the whole reason big G went with their own chip. The only reason why I know this is because I'm hard of hearing and I utilize the voice dictation all the time. On the 5 it's online, on the 6 it can be either online and or offline by my understanding.
Hope that helps.
