How to change music track in Spotify & PowerAmp using volume buttons? - Huawei Mate S

Is there any app that doesn't require root and would let me change music tracks with volume buttons while my screen is locked? If the only way is through root could you please point me to a guide, preferably something that won't require a factory reset. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try the App "Pocket Skip Track".
It will let you skip back and forward with double klicks on the volume buttons while the screen is off.
Even if set as an protected app its service sometimes gets killed by Huawei system and must be restarted.

Volume buttons as forward/back for music player

Just wondering if there's any app or mod out there that allows us to use the volume keys to change tracks. Really troublesome to take the phone out just to skip to the next track...

Change song with headphone controls

Hello everyone, is there a way to make sure that the buttons to change the volume on the headphones can change the song?
thank you very much
[DELETE]
Yes just doubletap the answer button , triple to go back or something like that test it out for yourself
I use the philips headset app (free in the play store). Allows you to control your music player with the single button on the headset, adjust the button press settings, and tune the sound a bit. I've tried a few of the other free control apps and found this one to be the best free app to do the job.
The best feature of this app is the fact that you can adjust what the button presses do...with other apps you have to pay in order to get that function.
Everything works perfect and thank you all for your help

Volume key changes media volume, not ringtone/notifcation volume

I didn't find anything with the search function, so here it goes:
Whenever you're on the homescreen with your One, and use the volume keys, normally my ringtone/notification volume changes, and I can make the phone go to silent/vibrate mode. If I played a game or used an other sound-using app, close it, and go back to the homescreen and try to change the volume again, it changes the media volumes. It's almost as if the audio process is still running and the One thinks it needs to change the media volume instead of ringtone/notification volume.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? (Or is it a feature, and if so, how can change/fix it?)
Thanks

Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (you will see the back/home buttons flash and a countdown) and it will do a full restart.
Cool... Someone is making an inquiry about operation of the volume button and you suggested a restart sequence?
Anyways! Try pressing once the volume button. A mini volume window should pop up there should be a button on the right corner. Pressing it will direct you to the complete volume settings window.

Thanks for your reply. Your solution is not exactly what I meant, first of all there is no button on the right corner when changing the media volume. Only when changing the notification/ringtone volume. Second of all I'm not sure I explained well enough what the problem is, so I'll try again:
Situation: A fresh rebooot. When you are on your home screen and change the volume, you'll change the volume of your notifications and ringtone. This is what I want and works fine, when you put the volume all the way down it will go to vibrate mode, or silent mode. Perfect.
Now when I played a few games or listened to some music, closed those apps and I am back on the homescreen. I change the volume with the volume keys but instead of changing the notification and ringtone volume I change the media volume. I can't set my One to vibrate or silent using the volume keys now. This is not what I want, since I want the behaviour as I described earlier.
If I now go to settings -> Sounds -> Volumes I can ofcourse change the volumes I want, but this is more actions than I want to, and apparently isn't necessary as well. Change the ringtone volume there, then going back to the homescreen and using volume keys again, it still changes the media volume, again, this is not what I want.
So the problem is that after playing games/music the volume keys won't revert back to changing the notification/ringtone sounds but in stead keeps changing the media keys.

Doesn't happen here. do you have an exact sequence of which games/music apps you have been using? It possible that one of them is not closing down properly, have you tried going to the app manager and seeing which programs are running then force closing possible culprits until you find which is giving the problem?

After trying to find the problem for a week I haven't come across an particular app or sequence before it happens. Force closing every possible running app that uses audio also doesn't revert back to notification sound changing. I'm out of ideas for now..
Yeah doesn't happen to me either and i'm on firmware 1.28 stock and urooted.
It's a feature not a bug

Try opening Recent Apps and swipe away the game.
Then try again.

Thanks, that solved it for me. Sometimes you gotta start at the basic steps when troubleshooting, don't just jump in head first.

I've seen the same issue with my Moto X now a year later. For me, the only fix has been the same that's referenced above--to go to the recent apps menu and swipe away the app that initiated the switch to controlling media volume as opposed to ringtone volume. Seems to work pretty well for me.
App is still active
Hey, I was having the exact same problem. It just started recently and I just figured it was because of a game (Real Racing 3). Even though I wasn't in the game, I guess it was still active in memory and keeping hold of the media output. I killed the app and my ringtone volume buttons work normally now.

[Q] Normal, Vibrate, Silent mode problem

Hello.
I just got my new Xperia z1 and facing some issues.
Normally when a phone is in vibrate or silent mode, there should be no sound from the device.
However with this phone, when I open games application (every games I tried) the sound come out.
I tried reboot, factory restore but nothing happened. It still works like normal mode although i chose vibrate and silent mode.
I tried Setting>>Sound>>Volumes and minimize the volume of "music, video, games & other media" and "Ringtone and notifications" then it work during the silent mode but then when I changed back to normal mode the sound just not come out.
I wonder if it's my mistake of setting something or what's wrong with my phone.
Sorry for my poor English language knowledge but Please help me...
Thank you in advance
As you have already found out there are two different kinds of sounds:
Using the normal, vibrate or silent option does just change the volume for ringtones and notifications, it does not change the volume for media and games.
You will also notice that using the volume rocker while being on your home screen or a non-media app will adjust the ringtones volume and using it in a game or media player will change the media volume, there will be a different symbol displayed.
I usually don't use the menu for adjusting the volume, but the volume rocker. If you want to make sure that media volume is turned down before opening am app, you will have to enter the menu though.

Thank you for your reply. I thought by changing the mode to vibrate or silent, the volume of media and games will also change to silent.
I wish there is some way that i can control media and games volume by changing sound mode, but it seems no.
Will be using volume rocket from now on. Thank you for your explanation. :good:

[Q] How to change the music lockscreen button function?

I have my s5 mini for just a month and when I started using it, I was really pleased with the lock screen when playing music. There was a play/pause button and forward and back button. With the forward and back button I could swap between songs. But about 2 weeks ago the function changed and the forward and back buttons are now used to change the volume. This is really disappointing because I can simply change the volume with the hardware volume buttons on my phone, and if I want to go to the next or previous song, instead of just simply doing so from the lock screen I have to unlock my phone and do it there. Is there a way to tweak the settings of music lock screen? I have gone through all the settings and I don't seem to find anything. Please help!
I don't know how to return them back, just to say that I have the last firmware and the buttons are still present and work, so it will probably be related to some setting you made.
Did you make any changes to the music player or something like that?
(btw did you know that by double clicking the play/pause button on headphones you can skip the song also)

Well, I use Rocket Player. It's definitely the best music player I know. And yeah, I know about headphones (with Rocket player I can even go to previous song by clicking two times and go forward by clicking three times) but still I would love to have this function on the lock screen too. I have changed the settings of Rocket Player to fit my personal preferences. But I have never changed the lock screen buttons settings. All I have found there in the settings of Rocket Player is the look of Lockscreen and I have tried all of them, nothing changes the function.
