Show type of data communication - LG Watch Urbane

How can you see on the LG LTE Urban2 the type of data communications it is currently using?
LTE, BT, or 3g
Perhaps there is a watch face that shows this?
A anna question that confuses me is, do LG Urban 2 LTE have NFC or not?

Thanks for your reply.
A really nice app that you recommended.
Now that was not really what I meant by my question.
On top on watc LG Urban Connection Status appears as a colored spot with different symbols in it.
My question is how I can see how the clock is connected. (Wifi, LTE, 3G, BT)

difference between[E] and [G] icon?

I found sthg really weird in my unlocked ATT tilt today. I m curently using T-mobile. As many of you know that, you rarely get signal/reception in basement if you are using t-mobile. but today, when i went down to the basement, reception was gone w/ the E icon, then after a while, the E icon was changed to G, then the signal was detected and I could make phone call too. and the carrier on the screen is still T-mobile. Nothing changed except the E/G Icon. I then checked w/ my friend who is also using T-mobile(nokia phone), no reception at all. Does any one know what the difference between E and G icon on top of the screen is? will I be charged for some type of service fee or something if I make calls or use the Tmobile web w/ the [G] icon? please tell me if you guys know anything about it.
thanks in advance...
The "E" is picking up an edge reception, i get it in the UK sometimes because i have a crappy t-mobile signal in my house. When its displayed i cant make phonecalls/txts etc so might be picking up another carriers signal because i dont think t-mob uses edge here. The "G" is gprs just the basic slow phones signal.
G is when GPRS is available, E is when EDGE is available. No extra charge. This could have been easily answered by looking in the manual.......page 29
I guess this may be different for T-Mobile (and could possibly vary on the ROM you're using) but the E on my device is for EDGE service, and G is for 3G service. 3G, obviously, is the better of the two. But I'm on AT&T of course...

I don't think T-mobile has 3G here in NY.
Thanks for all the replies above
so, the signal of GPRS is stronger than the EDGE? if yes, then we are all able to get reception even if in basement. No need to get verizon anymore... lol
but why can't my friends' phones picked up any GPRS signal? is that because their phones don't support GPRS?

And then H (HSDPA) just defeats them all.

No no no, g is not 3g, G is GPRS, the slower version of EDGE, thats the reason why you can call in your basement now!
G is GPRS
E is EDGE
3G is UMTS
H is HPSDA
first is the slowest, last is the fastest, so if the fastest is not availible, it switches to a slower one, like happened in the TS situation
My icon used to pretty much always be on 3G, sometimes switching to E when I drove to my brothers house which is about 25 miles away. But recently I haven't been seeing 3G at all, but only H. I did see E a couple days ago, but I haven't seen 3G in more than a week now. I thought H was only supposed to show up when you were using a data network or something? At least that's what I read somewhere on here a while ago... Any explanations?
that H is wat you want to see
first H shows up when downloading data means you're using HSDPA, but is H shows up when u're not downloading data, you have HSUPA too
Ya, as XtreMe_G indicated this is easily answered by opening up the manual.

Yeah, I know HSDPA is what I want to see the most, but when the hell did AT&T have HSUPA? I live in the Washington DC/Northern Virginia Metro area... Anyone else from the area noticing this?
And as for the OP's question about E and G, there is no difference between signal strength and ability to make voice calls. E just means that the cell offers Enhanced G.
Whether you see a G or and E (or 3g or H) is dictated by the data connection offered by the cell - which has no baring on voice at all.
If you have any signal, you should be able to make voice calls - the speed of the data connection (ie for web/email etc) is the only thing indicated by the Letter - except that 3g/H can also do simultaneous voice and data where G (and E) can't.

That's what I thought, but then I tested my data connection speeds and when I'm supposedly on basic GPRS the speeds are much greater than anything either GPRS or EDGE could accomplish (unless EDGE was having a perfect day).
I did notice however that it only shows G instead of 3G when I force the phone NOT to use 3G while 3G is available in the area. If I allow it to use 3G service it shows up as "3G" and the speeds remain the same. As soon as I force it not to use "3G" it shows up as just "G" but the speeds stay the same.
"E" or EDGE always seems to be indicative of the correct speed. But for my device it switching between G & 3G are one in the same, and the speed doesn't change at all.
Could just be a glitch with the software on my phone, but that's how it is for me.

Thanks for that.
That will be the reason that when I used a tomtom one and got traffic via my bluetooth phone, a traffic update would kill any call I was making.
I assume I am correct in also expecting my TyTn II to ignore voice calls (or drop gprs data connection) if I am using the TyTn II for internet access for my laptop and a voice call comes in?
I sometimes get the E but as far as i know we dont have Edge in t mobile UK.
how do you remove the G?

My G Icon changes to E Icon
Hello,
I have a small problem...
First I will Switch ON my wizard. After Switch ON I will see a G Icon at top of the today screen ( That is correct ). When I press the power button, the screen goes off (i.e Goes to Sleep Mode ) and again I press it to wake up. but now the G icon will change to E icon.
I not understanding why this happens.........
Also when i connect to GPRS internet but it shows as I am connected to EDGE with E icon ( This happens on when I wakeup the device )
My probem is that why the icon should change when I wakeup the device.
To confirm you that, I have also disabled the "EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon" setting in registry.
This problem will not occur in wm5 but only in wm6 or wm6.1.
In wm5 There is no E icon or it is not showing as "connected to EDGE" when I connect to GPRS internet.
Please any one help...............
Thanks in advance

What is that G icon?

I don't know what that icon is but it keeps tripping me out, i keep thinking it's 3G or some other internet provider but it's that icon that looks like a G or is a G and it's supposedly a connection icon.
Thanks in advance if someone can answer this

G is for GSM (or GPRS). In either case it means you have 2G coverage.
You can also get an "E" for edge which is also 2G (2.5 actually)
When you're in a 3G area, the icon will show "3G"
When you're in an HSDPA area, the icon will show "H"
Well this is my first smart phone but so i'm not sure what GSM or GPRS is so do you mind telling me and how do i turn it off or do you have to pay for it? I'm confused
thank you
You pay for usage- meaning that even if it stays connected all the time, you only pay when it's actually downloading something. Be careful though because the Diamond has a lot of applications that initiate the connection on their own (email, weather, GPS, etc)
Search and ye will find other threads here that talk about this.
So there isn't a way to turn it off? or i should just make sure all my programs i have don't have GSM?
There is a way to turn it off.
Search and you'll find it in the same threads. The app is called NoData
meaning if i have this program on and both the wireless and other one is disabled i don't have to worry about that G being there because it won't start dling on it's own?

Can you talk and surf at the same time with the bionic ???

I have been looking all over about this. I have the Thunderbolt but not happy with the HTC poor quality phone, and random reboots once in a blue.
So I am thinking in getting the Bionic.
Thanks.
You totally can talk and surf at the same time, I did it today and was surprised to see it worked very well.

Really? That's interesting... my Thunderbolt does voice & data on LTE or EVDO. From what I was told by my Verizon Business Data Specialist, it's actually not a limitation of the Verizon Network, it has to do with the antenna in the phone (which is strange, you would think they would have enabled it long ago on 3G).

I believe the thunderbolt has a separate "2g" radio and antenna that it can make voice calls on while using the 3g or 4g for data.
I'm not sure if the bionic is the same.

This is true. The Thunderbolt doesn't actually do simultaneous 3G voice/data, it has voice over 1X on a different antenna, then data over 3G.
It is *most definitely* a limitation of the network, running EVDO Rev. A which doesn't support it. Rev. B does, but VZ decided to skip it and go straight to LTE.
Cool. Thanks everyone. This definitely makes me want to get it.

I think what you are asking "What data services work while you are talking on your Thunderbolt?" If so, everything that I have noticed... Email, Browser surfing, and SMS messaging. Not sure about Hotspot Tethering, but would have to assume it does.
To qualify my previous statement regarding simultaneous Voice and Data, I didn't mean to say that both Voice & Data were 3G and worked at the same time... What I meant to say was that while my Thunderbolt showed a 3G EvDo connection, I could talk and surf. If the voice is going over a 1X network, I wouldn't know because the voice quality was just as good as always. It is safe to say that voice doesn't require 3G EvDo connectivity to function well.
Furthermore, if they made separate antennas in the Tbolt that made this possible, then both Berzerker7 and I were correct... though there is a limitation on VZW 3G EvDo's network, if the phone manufacturer's had just made separate antennas, then there are a lot of phones that could have done Simultaneous Voice & Data.
talk and surf
I just tested this myself and I am able to talk and surf at the same time with no problems but I was on 4g don't know what will happen when I am on 3g. Something else that I noticed what I think it is, is that voice is going over cdma and data is going over gsm. If you go to your dialpad and type this in *#*#4636#*#* and then go to phone information, you will see at the bottom it says gsm/cdma network auto. Here is where I found the code along with some other interesting info askvg.com/google-android-hidden-secret-codes Does anyone else have any info on this. Biggest question why isn't VZW advertising that you can talk and surf at the same time now...

All android phones I have used allow simultaneous voice/data with a Wi-Fi connection.
The reason the Thunderbolt is the only LTE VZW phone that can do it, Qualcomm and HTC jumped through hoops to with the FCC to get them to allow the Thunderbolt. It has a total of 4 antennas and they do not exceed the legal limit imposed by the FCC. (This is probably an attribute, although not certain, of why the battery life sucks.) Therefore you can talk and surf on 3G and 4G. This antenna combo is not on any of the other LTE phones offered by VZW (They all are not HTCs the other ones), but i'm sure the next HTC 4G phone that comes out will be able to do it on 3G and 4G if it has the multiple antenna setup from Qualcomm.

Xperia Z1S (T-Mobile US) Issue

Hi there. Hope all of you are enjoying your Z1 as much as I am. I'm very pleased so far... well except for the locked bootloader and no root part. I honestly don't know what anyone is complaining about in regards to the screen. Sure the viewing angles aren't great, but it's not a tv. And the color accuracy is among the best I've seen.
That said there's a couple thing off the top of my head...
The notification bar changes from black to a dull grey when in dialer or settings. Maybe it did this all along and I just noticed but it's bugging the hell out of me. Anyone else experience this?
Also periodically at home I'll lose LTE. The icon will show 4G, but not LTE below it. Not a problem, but when I search the "Service Providers" in "Mobile Network Settings" I will find an LTE network, but there's a check mark next to the 3G T-Mobile network. If I select the LTE network it immediately connects to that. It makes me wonder if it would automatically switch over to LTE later (presumably on a stronger signal). Any thoughts?

I can only assume it is that there's a stronger HSPA+ signal than the LT signal. Can't comment on anything else - sorry. By the way, the Z was a locked bootloader, right? But, we found ways around that and for root?

Your base assumption is probably correct. I haven't seen this problem specifically, but the phone is probably being less aggressive about LTE where the signal is weaker to save battery.

Any way to set data to use LTE only (and not 2G/3G)?

I'm missing the option to set my device to 4G only. Under "Settings" -> "Network & internet" -> "Mobile network" -> "Preferred network type" I can switch only between "2G/3G/4G" and "2G/3G". I miss further options and especially to set it on "4G" or LTE only. Because my network provider is pretty bad at 3G but quite good at 4G, even when 3G signal is much stronger and 4G signal is weak.
I don't care if I can't take voice calls in this mode.
Edit: I see there are apps on the store to do this. Though would be great to do it within the ROM.

My old phone did, when LTE signal was weak (but still available), and I assume, any other phone will do so as well. But data was much more reliable within 4G than 3G, even when signal was weak.
I play a gps-based online multiplayer game and whenever someone complained about bad data, I hinted to set their phone to LTE only.

4G+ Means LTE-Advanced aka True 4G, and it is faster than 4G. The only difference is the maximium theoretical speed, bandwidth and minimium latency you can get. 4G can reach speeds up to 100Mbit/s, while the 4G+ (LTE-A) can reach up to or over 1GBit/s, with less than a few milliseconds of latency.
