Hi guys, I am interested in UMI ZERO but wondering if it lives up to the hype. I would like to know from those who purchased and been using it, would you buy it given your experience with it? Just want to confirm that the hardware and ROM that comes with it are both good. Thank you for your help.
Just want to say thank you for those who have participated in the poll.
For those who voted NO, would you care to share your main issues with the device? Thank you.
There are 2 important issues: WIFI bug and unexpected reboots, not solved yet in the v09 update.
Definitely , I would not buy it again.
For me the device works perfect with Arcatarc's eumi rom. I also experienced reboots with the original Umi rom. But since I changed to Arcatarc's rom the device is reliable, with no reboot in the last month. Also batery life is good with 2 to 3 days standby and 3 to 4 hour display on-time. Wifi works with most routers perfect, but with my older Netgear with alternative FW the wifi was very buggy. With the router at work I have perfect wifi speeds (on 2.4 and 5 GHz), altough the signal is a bit weaker as my nexus tablet.
So I would recommend this device if you are willing to change the rom.
I would recommend you NOT to buy the UMI Zero

I have had multiple problems with UMI Zero within a month of using it. Am listing them below:
Randomly reboots - Have tried many ROMs, all have this problem but in different frequencies
Microphone has failed - Yes! I am using only the headset now for calls
Capicitive keys have become laggy and unresponsive - Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not
Support from UMI is not good. Sellers aren't good either - UMI asks you to contact seller, seller asks you to ship back at own cost, wait for more than a month as they verify and ship you a new one (hopefully) over mail (Geekbuying)
GPS - seldom locks
WiFI has issues
Battery Drain happens faster than you would think it should (And it is not the screen, I guess it has to do with the Kernels)
ROMs are all low maturity and no sight of Lolipop due to Mediatek issues
..

I would reccomend complete Emui and as said before I think its the best rom I have used so far and would be reluctant to try Mui 6 as it very similar and has it own problems
I'm done with mine. Had it for around 2 months and it's just not usable as an everyday phone.
The biggest problem I have is with the battery. I get at the very most 1 hour of web browsing before the phone shuts down. That simply isn't good enough. The other day I went to an exhibition and started the day fully charged. I took about 15 photos there and was on whatsapp for about 10 minutes before it shutdown. I can't live with that. I got rid of my last phone (HTC One X) because it was 2 years old and the battery had got to the point where it wasn't lasting me long enough. Despite how poor it had got, it still lasted twice as long as the Umi!
Even more annoying is I just don't know when it's going to shutdown. Sometimes it does it at 30%, other times at 50%. The few times it's actually got below 30% it is losing about 1% for every 5s the screen is turned on once it's past 30%. I've tried several battery calibration apps but none of them have resolved the problem.
My battery has swollen now and there is a gap between the frame and the back cover. It's only a matter of time before it forces the screen off. With all the other problems the phone has, it's just wont be worth replacing the battery or cover.
I've come to the conclusion that UMI have honest intentions but they just don't know what they're doing. They've released so many stock ROMs and it doesn't feel like they have any idea whatsoever how to resolve their issues (reboots, battery, poor signal, MAC issues etc...).
They've now got 2 new phones coming out (Hammer and Zero 2) and I very much doubt we'll see any new ROMs. Perhaps a few more customisations (there must be some they've missed!) but none that actually fix the major issues with the phone.
I bought this phone a couple of years ago because I thought the design was gorgeous. I never really used it as a regular phone. After a while it quit receiving a phone signal. After research I found out that many people have the same issue. Apparently there is a defect in the design that makes the antenna connector come loosen from the motherboard. Probably got melted off because the phone literally got so hot that I could not hold it.
I even bought a second one off of E-bay and it had the exact same issue. The seller actually tried to pawn off this defective piece of trash. When I told him I knew what the problem was he didn't contest it. I did get my money back, but what an exasperating ordeal. So now I have a very nice glass & metal 5 inch tablet.
Looking for a new phone to replace my zenfone 2 (need 3G/4g radios on both sim cards) and was wondering if overheating is a big problem for you guys? I read some threads here and it looks like those who are not having problems are running the stock rom that came with the phone. Any issues with custom/aftermarket roms?
I have Z5 who has same chipset like Z3+ and I have no problems and neither you if you not play much hard intensive games and not record much 4K videos.
Phone work just fine and I have no overheating untill yet.
Sent via Xperia Z2
I do play a game which heats up my oppo find 7 a bit (snapdragon 801) so im assuming ill have some heating issues. I dont care much for 4k video however.
if you are planning to play games, dont buy the phone.
Im trying to play pokemon go with my gf (and her 2 year old samsung s5) and the battery tanks quicker on the z3+ while also the screen turns really dark so that I cant see whats happening on the screen if Im not standing in shadows.
if you are not planning to play games its a really great phone for a cheap price. The sound (with noise cancellation) , battery, gps and camera is great
If you decide to buy one backup DRM keys and root, for the sake of throttling there is kernels and slim stock based roms. I have sunkernel running with Nagasaki rom and all cores set to 1.6 Ghz and thermal configuration replaced to minimize throttling. It gets warm but at least performance doesn't nose dive. In my opinion I enjoyed my z3 more and now I'm considering moving away from Sony due to in my eyes they have taken many steps back recently. For a company that has specialized in all areas of technology it seems they hold back on their mobile sector.
im not too concerned about the batt life playing games. Im usually plugged in when gaming. Plus gaming isnt anywhere near the biggest factor to getting a new phone. Seems like doing regular things, this thing wont be overheating. Maybe the overheating issue will help me play less haha!
I do love the z3+ for its dual sim (i assume both are 3G+ whereas the zenfone 2 i have is only 2g on one sim card slot which severely limits me), dedicated sd slot and a decent processor in a small form factor. Im done with 5.5in+ phones.
Im actually not too brand loyal. Whoever makes a decent phone with the specs I want gets my cash. It used to be HTC, then Fujitsu, then Oppo, then Asus and now Sony. If Sony tanks, well then onto the next manufacturer!
Temperature depends on where you live. For Antarctica or Iceland, its a very good phone.
I must add here, while on ATT in Los Angeles and in Tokyo, the Z4 (3+) is a 100% dream to use on 6.0.1 with zero heat ( for me ) battery lasting hours on end, day after day....
...but just now using the same phones in Seoul with a new 3G only OLLEH sim has resulted in massive heat issues and battery drain on all 6 of my Z4/Z3+ phones ( Japan versions, UK versions and HK versions ) so it will depend greatly on your carrier, it would seem.

This is interesting. Ill have to check what OS its running when I get it.
ATT mvno H20 over here in San Francisco. Im not sure what regular voice uses but I usually have my data turned off until i really need it. Planning to use H20 on sim 1 and then a freedompop 3G sim on sim 2. This is news to me that different radios use different power. Very interesting!

Update: after a good solid day with the Korean sims, both devices I'm using ( z3+ ) run with very little heat... this may have been a reception issue or just something about where I was located. Seems ok now and almost running as cool as they run on ATT in the USA.

good to know thanks! Bought the phone. Cant wait to see if this one is a keeper.
Just got in the phone. been playing games on it non stop. it gets warm but i think the term "overheat" is blown out of proportion. This thing gets no hotter than my Oppo Find 7 (snapdragon 801) under heavy load. It does run warmer under normal loads than my Oppo however. Hasnt rebooted either by itself on me. So far absolutely LOVING this phone.
Hi! Could you tell me what firmware do you have currently?? Cheers
Enviado desde mi X98 Air 3G mediante Tapatalk
Don't get it. overheats still on 6.0.1. maybe takes 2 pics before the camera shuts down. Go for a Nexus 6P instead, I sure wish I had. NO MORE SONY.

Awesome... I'm Planning to buy it for gaming, so I was worried about this overheat... I think I'm gonna buy it too.
I have several of this device and just received the latest firmware on many of them, which completely eradicated the heating issue....
When you factor in the Superior in hand feel, the screen, and price, this (to me) is THE Xperia to beat.
Hi Guys, thinking of getting this phone but reports on screen responsiveness being laggy is putting me right off. I'm the type of person that notices everything and would be extremely annoyed if the touch response was slower than my 6P. Has the latency issue been fixed?

I bought the 3T a couple of weeks ago coming from the nexus 6P too. Just buy it, I really can't notice any lag at all, speed and responsiveness is better than the nexus.

I didn't notice any of these lags on my device.
No latency at all, OP3T is like the new Nexus heritage successor. Buy it without thinking twice
IMO those reports are crazy I haven't noticed touch latency problems at all
Same here. No latency at all. I highly recommend buying it.
Never had problems. Best phone I've owned so far.
Buy it.
Touch latency is real. Whether it irritates you or not, that's another matter.
It's mostly noticeable while scrolling.

Saying this means nothing. It's very smooth on my end.
Lags also depend on you ROM, kernel, (crappy?) apps and so on...

While true, one of the most important dependencies is the touchscreen firmware, which unfortunately is a binary blob.
BTW other people reported latency when typing fast on the virtual keyboard, and when playing games. I use the 'swipe' feature on keyboards and don't play games so couldn't comment on that.

Hey guys I had a opo and it had some connectivity issues that long story short I couldn't fix and I bought a lg g3 just for temporary. Have been interested in this since it came out but not sure if I should get on 3 on swappa or buy new 3t. Is the 3t worth the extra cash? Any complaints? Or even developing support more for one or the other?
I also thinking of ordering 3t,waiting for 128gb version-but I think I'm gonna have to be happy with ordering 64gb(cuz 128 is not in sale from few weeks back till now). Are you guys happy with it?Does it have some big problems like LG G4 or Nexus 6p with motherboard? Community on xda is big as I can see,and that's very important to me when I'm buying a phone. How long is aprox shipping time to Europe(Croatia)?
Edit:approx one week later...
3t is beautiful device,I like it
Sent from my HTC One M8 [6.0 Gpe]
I'm thinking of ordering one for myself also, first i need to sell one of my 6p's. But it's good to see that previous 6p users love this device.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I ended up buying a one plus 3t in the end. I can definitely tell the difference in latency but the longer I have the phone, the more I'm adjusting to it. It was only a big deal as I was coming from a 6P. Hopefully the latency can be improved in a future update. The phone is however blazing fast.
Multitasking is fantastic due to 6GB ram, the battery life is far far better than the 6P. The 810 really crippled the battery on the 6P. I'm pretty happy with the one plus. Only real thing I miss now is being on the latest version of Android.
I feel like Google just abandoned the Nexus line. The 6P still doesn't have 7.1.2 beta even though the 5x got it days ago. Really poor from Google
The touch response is great. Just that OnePlus needs to work on adjusting the scroll latency via software. This is my favorite Android device. Checks all the boxes for me other then it being damn slippery lol. I hate cases and skins so yeah lol
I don't get it. Are you guys talking about the little miniscule lag behind scrolling sometimes?! You haven't had a Samsung phone have you.....

Performance under low battery
Hi,
I currently have a nexus 6 which gets very slow when the battery is below 40%. Does oneplus 3T have similar problems? My current nexus 6 runs on stock android and i am unable to open my camera or other apps. it gets damn slow.
coming from nexus 6p too. op3t is way faster, better battery life, just better.
Hi All,
I've just bought a 256GB Mix. loving it but i've noticed a distracting flickering when the screen is at higher brightness settings. It's hard to describe almost like random dips occur in the brightness.
Obviously auto brightness is off and i've disabled as much battery saving things as i can find.
It persists through different ROMS, tried various MIUI roms, RR, and AICP.
Do i have a dud? Any Firmware updates i can try?
Are you on the newest firmware I believe its 7.12.21

Nope, I never did find a solution. I just have the brightness around 90%, it doesn't seem to do it around that. It's plenty bright at that so I'm happy. Considered sending it for RMA but couldn't be bothered with it being a Chinese seller, just thought it would be too stressful..
I'm considering upgrading to a Mix 2s soon anyway..
I have a similar problem on Xiaomi 4A, it looks like this video (iphone right): Youtu.be/Q6CANkiPkUM
Do you have a similar flicker?
Replacement screen for what 80 bucks
Perhaps the problem is not in the screen, but in the power supply pwm - inductor, capacitor
Hello I've redmi note 5 pro i also have same issue past few months but i didn't get any solution. when my phone brightness will high then screen flickering too fast and this issue is too much trouble. So please any one have any solution please let me know.
Hello everyone
Im considering Note 10 pro and it seems like a nice deal but I saw a few reviews on yt and they said that
-the cpu is slow for android 11and the phone lags/gets slow.
-the phones touch is too sensitive causing it to register touches just by hovering over the screen,
-the virtual proximity sensor causes the screen to randomly turn off thinking its being lifted to the face and turn on during calls, and switch from loud speaker to call speaker etc
I was wondering if you experience these problems (still) or if they were fixed with new software
thanks in advance

It depends on what you want to invest for a smartphone , of course it's not the flagship ever, but I think in this price segment (or even 100% more expensive) it's the best.
The problems you've written, depend on firmware and ROM. If you've got experiences in flashing modifying then you'll get a phone which you can get better in photos and battery consumption with a smooth running system (sometimes every software can crash...)
For me it's good as mi9 (I've thought to get much better pictures as in mi9 but it's around the same after booth are modified, some situations are little better some not so good )
If you decide to buy another smartphone and you want to root and or try custom roms... Flashing... modding.... I recommend to take one with sd card slot. This was my reason to move away from mi9.

First of all its a great phone, worth the money in my opinion. But coming to your questions..
Yes, the CPU is slow, not a flagship, so there is that, but I have never experienced any lags or major stutters in my day to day usage, not sure about gaming tho. I am on PE ROM, not MIUI.
Yes, the phone touch is too sensitive, I have been experiencing the issue you mentioned, a slight touch registers it, never happened that with my XR.
Yes, there is proximity sensor issue..it annoys me a lot, even my friend has the same proximity sensor issue, but after switching to PE, I think it has reduced, but I do experience it occasionally even in PE.
Again, I can live with all those issues I mentioned, RN10 Pro is not my main device, work sim is on the apps, so the usage is less.
Your mileage may vary.

Thank you for your reply. That was very helpful
If you aren't gaming or have other high requirements, the CPU isn't exactly slow. I use ArrowOS 12 and it's extremely smooth. No lags whatsoever. Plus the battery can last up to 4-5 days if you don't use the phone much.
I also never had any issues with touch or the screen turning off when it's not supposed to.
But today I wouldn't pay more than 240€ for it, because it's quite a few months old by now and maybe newer phones will become available soon.
Major drawback for me with this phone is the lack of good camera support for custom roms. The camera might also be good for the price class, but it isn't really anything special. If you have more money and want a good camera, I'd suggest looking at the OnePlus 9RT.
But what I really enjoy about the Redmi Note 10 Pro is it's awesome screen!

I don't really play games but I don't like switching phones a lot and I keep a phone for about 3-4 years so I tend to buy phones with cpus that would last that long. I also use dual apps a lot since I switched to k20 couple years ago so I stick EU roms even tho I Used PE and LOS mainly on my previous phones.
I agree. The screen is the main attraction for me too. I think I might get the poco f3 if I decide no on the RNP10, even tho it seems like it has the same proximity issue . I love OnePlus brand but it's too pricy especially in my location compared to Mi
i am coming from the mi8 (an older flagship)
not missing anything eventhough the cpu is worse than my old mi8. cameras are pretty equal. the cpu is on paper is a bit worse than in my old mi8, but in reallife you wouldnt notice anything until you´re not playing heavy games.
but!!!! the biggest thing is the display. it´s really impressive for that price. and the sound is also better since it has got two speakers. for me it was a nice upgrade going from an older flagship to a newer midrange phone.
