If we flash the full zip do you still keep apps, data, and other stuff ?

How can I install this update with root and TWRP recovery? It is the first time that I have a rooted device and a custom recovery on a phone...

like is said in the other thread with the Mirrors quoting :
To update you must either wait for the new, full, signed flashable zip to appear or use the following workaround:
Boot into TWRP recovery
Flash the previous full signed flashable zip (3.2.1 FULL)
Flash the new OTA incremental update zip (which updates from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2)
For Root access flash the SuperSU zip
Reboot
The result is exactly the same as if you'd flashed the new, full rom 3.2.2 zip.

Good guide for updating here :

Yes:
Sometimes when you moved quickly from silent back to normal the phone would display the normal profile but there would be no sound for notifications until you manually increase or decrease the sound then it would've been working again.

[08-14-2015] Project Fi Update, 5.1 (LVY47H) -> 5.1.1 (LVY48E) Stagefright Fix

How to update your phone from 5.1 (LVY47H) --> 5.1.1 (LVY48E)
And better yet, you can do so with TWRP and without losing your installed apps and settings.
1. Download the following to your phone...
LVY48E Rom + Radio (Bootloader Baseband: D4.0-9625-02.102+FSG-9625-02.78.05 || ROM Baseband: MDM9625_104446.01.02.102R)
(68c8c9a8b842ef9c9ce933471391de9500cbea89.shamu-LVY48E-full-no-bootloader.zip)
MD5: 9ac9f59d93db1acabd316927af01cf6c || SHA-1: 68c8c9a8b842ef9c9ce933471391de9500cbea89Bootloader 71.10
(shamu_Bootloader_moto-apq8084-71.10.zip)
MD5: 3c0f719b61f8b253db4f8faba984eda7 || SHA-1: 33dedd3b09ac2211ceda836316bf17f5be3008e02. Boot into TWRP
3. Install shamu_Bootloader_moto-apq8084-71.10.zip
4. Reboot into System
5. Boot back into TWRP (you can boot into Bootloader instead to verify it upgraded to 71.10, but it's not needed)
6. Wipe SYSTEM, CACHE, and DALVIK-CACHE (if you want a clean install with no apps or settings, wipe DATA as well)
7. Install 68c8c9a8b842ef9c9ce933471391de9500cbea89.shamu-LVY48E-full-no-bootloader.zip
Do NOT install any other zips!!!
When you go to reboot in the next step, TWRP will warn that there is no system installed. This is NORMAL!
The system image is created during the first boot, and because of this, you must wait until after the first boot completes before installing anything else to the System partition (i.e. SuperSU), otherwise you risk corrupting the system patching process.
This includes the SuperSU installer that TWRP prompts to install
Click to collapse
8. Reboot into System
8a. Here you will be prompted about no system being installed. Just swipe to allow.8b. On the next prompt about SuperSU not being installed you MUST MUST MUST!!! click DO NOT INSTALL
If you swipe and install it. Then expect bootloops, hung boot, and all other sorts of problems. If you don't listen and swipe to install, then you must boot back into recovery and start back at #6At this point you will want to go back into TWRP and flash SuperSU, Busybox, Xposed, etc...
If you have any problems, then you are probably too stupid to follow instructions, but hit me up regardless and i'll try to help.

FIX FOR WIFI CALLING
tristanlee85 said:
To enable Wi-Fi calling (if it appears to not work after flashing):
First and foremost, you HAVE to have Hangouts installed. Wifi calling uses Hangouts to make the calls.
Open the dialer, tap the vertical ellipsis and tap Settings
Under Calls > Callings accounts, ensure that Call assistant is set to Wi-Fi calls with Google
Below that, tap Configure and togge Wi-Fi Calling to disabled (assuming it's enabled)
Restart the device
Repeat step 3 to toggle Wi-Fi Calling to enable it
Calls should take place over Wi-Fi if the signal is stronger than your network signal
There may be a shorter approach to this, but I tried to disable/enable without restarting and there was no change - calls still took place over the cellular network. I should also mention that the ROM I came from was the stock rooted 5.1 LVY47H, root and de-oxed. I also had a similar issue when I flashed this ROM originally so it may be related to that vs this flash.

With the release of update 5.1.1 (LVY48C) for the Nexus 6 (Project Fi), i for one am eager to upgrade to the latest version.
But herein lies the problem.
I am currently on Stock 5.1 (LVY47H) which came with the phone directly from Google's Project Fi website. But my phone has been unlocked, rooted, and has TWRP on it.
When i tried to flash the zip in TWRP (Android Police site) (Direct Download) it comes back with a "Package expects build fingerprint of blah blah blah"
Now i googled this error message and found a reference to this site (How To Flash Manually) but it's got commands like..
Code:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
..and wiping my phone is a no-go for me.
Sooo... how can i flash this update without losing what i already have in my phone?
Or even better, can someone release a full ROM of 5.1.1 that i can just flash over 5.1 with TWRP?

For starters, you can't flash an official OTA zip in TWRP.
Look here:

In the OP is a TWRP flashable update to the LVY48C build that you want.

I'm going to assume that the Fastboot Flashable zip file is meant for TWRP.
Because i don't know of any command to flash a zip file from inside fastboot.
Everything i've ever done in fastboot has been .img files

Just make sure you are unlocked before flashing. Never know what could happen.
Can flashboot a zip but haven't seen it done since my old HTC days.

SO just to be clear, to update to LVY48C frm LVY47H without loosing data on my fi Nexus 6 with TWRP I should just flash the fastboot .zip file with the no bootloader from the link you posted above?
Instructions indicate that you have to wipe system, cache and dalvik cache.

I would say try dismissing it if possible and rebooting your phone again.
I had a prompt for a 5.1.1 update on my phone before i flashed.
After the flash, nothing has come up again.
So I click on the ROM zip file and it looks like the link does not work???

Frequently Asked Questions :
1. Is it compatible with my device?
Yes, as long as you are using an Android One 2nd generation [seed] with a qcom 410 processor (msm8916).
2. Will I still be able to recieve the official OTA updates in the near future?
Yes, as long as you've never rooted, changed recovery, or any other modification on your system.
In case you have rooted your device, all you have to do is reflash the ROM when a new ota arrives and you'll be fine
3. Do I need to Wipe my Data and cache partitions before attempting to install the ROM?
No, but it is recommended especially if you are having too many apps FCs
If you are having apps FCs, try clearing the app data of the affected app, or try hard reset.
If all else fail, do a clean install.
4. Got stuck with "Patching system image unconditionally"?
It might be a bad download
Always verify the hash prior to proceeding (check the howto verify the MD5sum below)
Wipe the system partition just in case
MD5 Signature
How to Verify the MD5 signature?
If you are running Windows just download HashTabs and install. Right click on the downloaded file then click properties and look for "FILE HASHES" tab, verify if md5 hash are the same. On unix based system just execute this line in the terminal "md5sum SPROUT4-STOCK-ROM-LMY47V.zip". On your phone, just use ES explorer and then click properties then tap "Show Checksum" then compare the md5 hash. If the file hashes are identical you are good to go, Otherwise, redownload the file again due to bad probably.

Although we had different Lollipop rom build no., our device and roms are basically the same. Since Android M arrived we all share the same build numbers. How did I know this? By verifying the MRA58Y ota and comparing all the hashes including the radio-modem.img I found out we all share the same Android M stock rom. And lastly, the MRA58M ota will not touch any other partition other than the system, boot and modem, so basically, all you need is the system.img, boot.img and radio.modem.img to be able to update to Android M. The rest of the partitions are useless when it comes to updates

Can your TWRP files found here

if yes, which one to use? (i.e. blue, classic, darkplay)
thanks.
@kiksilog
Any recovery will do as long as it runs on this device. Unfortunately, Marshmallow requires a permissive kernel, so far no one has manage to build an insecure kernel for seed without any issue. Even the latest beta supersu with a modded sepolicy boot.img failed to boot. Android M for seed is unrootable for now, hopefully supersu will get an update to support our latest OS

In case someone might consider upgrading to Android M 6.0.1 MMB29K
- install it via custom recovery philz / twrp / fastboot (visit the first page for more info)
- the rom contains system.img and boot.img only (the only partitions required to upgrade)
- the rest of the partitions were removed and will be provided separately for each device

Can someone extract the gallery and camera app in oos and post it. Thanks

What version of TWRP that you are using? Mine is 3.0.4.1 and i have no issue on the encryption error. Try to flash the latest TWRP version to see if that can bypass the error message or not.
Google Drive link for OP3. anyone? Thank you.
I have also decrypted memory. How to upgrade to the new version without encrypting memory again (and loosing everything)?

Flashed stock recovery n also tried twrp recovery.. Nothing bypassed the encryption. Asked for password. Finally decided to wipe the internal storage.
Lost all my personal data n pics :crying:
Video installation guide? I may not want to have TWRP problems..
Just one simple question: Why are you all staying at 3.0.4-1, when official 3.1.0.0 is out, able to get the job done without any problem? Just asking.

Did you performed factory reset and flashed ROM & decrypt.zip
The TWRP survives the flash and Magisk can be flashed to Root the ROM but after above two files are flashed.
Well I successfully flashed ROM after complete factory reset with internal memory tooo ......
But some how TWRP got replaced with factory default (the one with root checker) with bootloader unlocked screen
Thank you. Just updated to latest version from old stock rom. Please update new versions also whenever available

Is this still an issue for you? I haven't taken it yet, and your comment froze me. Your signature says OP 5T..
It's been a while since the last OTA, so I ask to reconfirm. I need to:
1) Uninstall RICE in Magisk and other modules
2) Uninstall XXX or not? That thread stated long ago that the module can be left installed since it's not version-dependent.
3) Uninstall twrp a/b retention script
4) DOwnload full update using oxygen updater.
5) Install update using settings/local upgrade. DO NOT REBOOT
6) Install Magisk. DO NOT REBOOT
7) INstall TWRP a/b retention script in magisk. DO NOT REBOOT
8) Install Magisk to inactive slot. NOW REBOOT
Is that right?
Is this twrp flashable.

So you don't overwrite TWRP with the stock recovery, and reflash Magisk while in recovery.

Got it. Or, use the update method that has a step where a twrp retention script is installed in Magisk. They both sound like similar methods

They are, but for the old-time root users (like myself), flashing from TWRP is the simplest way.
Mind you, I'm not old (32yrs), but I've been rooting since the HTC Evo, and flashing ROMs and updates from TWRP is the most straightforward method.

I totally understand. Easy is good. I've been flashing a long time as well, and this TWRP approach appeals to me.
What are the steps? Boot to twrp, flash update, reboot? And twrp and magisk will be kept? I assume that before flashing, I would need to remove all magisk modules - RICE, XXX, and whatever else is in there. No?
These update logs has been pretty lame lately. Shuffling same BS around.

Same as flashing a rom. In TWRP went to wipe.choose format ,type yes it deleted everything..
Reboot recovery
Connect to computer
Click on your device ,then internal storage, then TWRP.
Copy this rom OOS10 and TWRP zip and magisk zip to TWRP file.
Install OOS10,then flash TWRP
Reboot to TWRP,flash OOS10 again,then TWRP
reboot recovery flashed OOS10 again and TWRP
then reboot system
Don't forget to flash TWRP right after flashing rom or you will have the stock recovery..
After set up boot TWRP and flash magisk.
