[Q] Ghost Touches - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I was browsing an XDA thread yesterday and my S2 exhibited some, "Ghost," touches. (i.e. it would scroll to the top or the bottom of the page and open the keyboard even though I never asked it to.)
I've seen this issue on many Nexus 7 2013's
Have you suffered any Ghost Touches?
Thanks.

Did you have the charger plugged in?

No I didn't have the charger in. I downloaded an app called Ghost Touch Tester for the Nexus 7 2013. It passed all of the tests so I pretty satisfied it was an isolated incident. Lets just hope I'm right.

My old nook color used to do it. It was overly sensitive that even my residual oils on my fingers would cause it to go crazy. I just had to wipe it down more often.

Good point madsquabbles. Deffo something to try if the problem reoccurs.
Thanks. :highfive:

Nexus 7 Screen separation Fix

Here it is! Just got my Nexus 7 but a really bad surprise waited me. As soon as I opened the box, I experienced the "screen separation" issue that a lot of people had. I tried to look on the web for a real permanent fix as Google's supply are not able to bet me an exchange/RMA that would not require to open the back of the device. I had tried to get the screws tighten without success, I also tried to put spacers in between the screws without success also.. :crying:
I read a lot about fixing this issue; one was explaining how to make the CPU/GPU running and generating heat to get the glue to hold the screen and case together. So I was sitting there watching my battery temp going up to 32-35C/90-95F as my meal was in the oven at 190C/375F. Then I got this great idea. I stopped the stress test, put the tablet in power off state and placed it face down on TOP of the hot spot of the oven; in between the two front elements. I put weigh on top of it and waited about 30-40 min. After that period, I started "Stability Test" available on the Play Store to get the battery temp that was around 47C/115F. I stopped the oven and let it sit for the night face down with weigh on top of it to cool it off. Next morning, surprise! The screen was finally glued. I had no screen seperation since then. It's now being my 5th day without any problem.
Conclusion : FIXED !!
Let me know if that worked for you as well !
A heat gun would probably be easier and safer, glad it worked though.

Interesting idea, hadn't heard that one before. Of course, different stoves will have different hot spots from the oven, so YMMV. How much weight did you put on top of it? Also, do you happen to have a way of measuring how hot the spot gets?
I'd be interested to see if this is a truly permanent solution or if the adhesive starts to break down again after a few weeks or months.

I placed my hand over and touched it.. If the "hot spot" was couple of degres higher, I wouldn't be able to let my hand sit there.. I was at the limit.. For the weight, I used casino's pot full of change.. 2x 8 pounds..

Good to know. Different people seem to have different thresholds for heat (for instance, I remember as a kid I couldn't keep my hands under the same water my mom used to wash dishes), but the spot on my stove doesn't seem to run as hot as you described, so I'd be willing to try it if I run into this issue on my replacement.
All in all, though, I like this idea a lot. There's always a risk, but I'm sure the devices are stress tested with the CPU running at temps hotter than you could reproduce using this method (short of actually putting it inside the oven). As long as you can hold your hand on the spot without it getting too unbearable, I would think it's pretty safe to try.

Is there any way that we could just use our better glue to stick the screen tight regardless of the heat when playing games?

I'm interested in this too. What about a very tiny amount of super glue on top of the old adhesive?
regarding heat-guns .... do you think a hairdryer would get hot enough/ too hot etc? I'm keen to try this but dont want to mess it up.

shocking discovery- missing screws in nexus 7
Long story short:
1st device from best buy : scar like dead pixels, exchanged for second
2nd device from best buy: loose screen/ seperation
Got 3rd device from staples hoping it is better, noticed screen noticeably yellower, minimal seperation problem.
At my last resort, opened up the 2nd and 3rd device, found 3 screws missing from the right side when faced down(or left when screen is up). While the 3rd device is missing one,
. I am so shocked this is happening....no wonder my screen is so loose.
I m a first timer with android device. Own an iphone . Gotta say jelly bean and even the nexus 7 itself is spectacular. But what is with Asus? Have google picked the wrong partner. Or is it is pure poor quality control. Unbelievable.

Okay, so just to make sure what you people do:
1. Heat up the oven
2. Find the hotspot
3. Switch oven off, wait until hot to touch (that'd be a bit over 60C)
4. Switch unit off
5. Put the unit on the hot spot with about 16 pounds (8 kilos) of pressure on top (really?)
6. Wait until it has cooled down naturally
Am I missing anything? How has the fix held for you so far after a month or more?
Thanks, :cyclops:
Did not work for me.
I heated the device to 80C with a hairdryer, then pressed it with clamps (force equal to about 9kg) for about 7 hours.
Separation came back about 1 hour after I released the clamps without turning the device on.
Too bad, as I have no way to exchange it.
I guess I'll just use the case.
5 minute epoxy (or any glue one's comfortable with) is the way to go. The problem is obvious once the bevel is removed - the glue on the left side on my device had cured without holding the glass. Hard to believe heating and pressing would work at all.

Lockscreen bug with smartcover and battery drain

Hello everyone,
I bought on ebay this smartcover since I saw that lots of people were talking great about it (like being the best cover for Nexus 7). After some days of use, I found out that my lockscreen bugs quite a lot and I'm not always able to unlock my device if it's in the smartcover, and yesterday I found out a strange use of the system, like it drained my whole battery without using it.
Anyone is experiencing same issue? Shall I go for another cover?
Thanks everyone,
Tiwiz

I actually can't believe you just posted this, I've had this case for a couple of months and literally last night started putting the battery issue down to the fact that the case/cover may be waking the tablet when it shouldnt.
Also I've noticed that maybe like 50% of the time, when you open the cover it doesn't unlock, other half of the time it does?
Same issues?!

Seems were in the same boat here, as I went through 3 cases until I found this.
Loved it but these issues are doing my head in.
From what I can see, if you close the case, then turn it to its front, the front of the case is still raised.
This could cause the sensor to think its not closed sometimes?
I dno, just pondering.
But do it and tell me if your case does this, like if you look at it from the front and top, theres a gap between the case and screen.
I hope you understand what I'm saying there

Thats what I believe it is, due to the front part of the cover not actually touching the screen EVER, I'm just thinking that every so often, the Nexus just thinks its not there, wakes up and then the cover is activated again and then goes back to sleep, then back into deepsleep.
Thats my theory, but I'm still keeping the case, its great

Makes me think that with my problems and the OP problems, may I know why the official cases from Asus don't have a magnet inside.

I have more or less the same cover (mine has a leather piece that covers the bezel... which doesn't bother me). It does work well and it looks great. And I've had no issues with the smart lock (but my N7 is set to go into airplane mode whenever the cover closes, so that may have something to do with it). I would recommend it.

To be clear, I was talking about the one you posted, not the one from the original poster.
As I said, mine is a bit different than that one... http://www.hipstreet.com/hipstreet-asus-google-nexus-7-rotating-case/
The rotating is the best part of the cover. I know people who have smart covers that fold back and the magnets turn off the screen from behind. I can just rotate mine and avoid that problem. Also, as shown in the promo pictures, the rotating is good for standing the pad up in both portrait and landscape. When it's closed it looks like a moleskine notebook, so I can carry it to work and meetings and look professional.
That said, it did fall of the top of my counter onto a tile floor and landed on its side with no damage. No guarantees, but I was happy.
(And I got it cheaper than the MSRP from Staples Canada... $29 as I recall.)
I have the same case as the OP and I have issues with it locking itself when its open but that may be the magnet triggering the lock from the back side of the device. I've also noticed some battery drain with the cover closed, almost as if its being locked/unlocked throughout the day.

HD+ Screen Issues

I have Nook HD+ running CM10. I have noticed I get problems every time I use it'
. These are screen presses to top or bottom bar when I'm not touchin screen. Happens no matter what I'm doing weather browsing net or on play store. Also happens when running stock nook. Doesn't go away till I lock screen then unlock. Always happens within 30 min of using device.
Some people have said it just dirt or smudges but this happens a lot and is really annoying. Also never had this problem with other devices such as galaxy note phone.
Could it be defective? Any advice?
It can be defective and not. This depends now (if i read your description) at many things.
Yes the main and one possibility can be dirty screen (many fingerprints). Why i think this is main reason? Because you describe that this random presses start after 30 min usage. You press screen within 30 min a lot i think.
Nook HD+ digitizer is not at glass, like most of phones and other stuff. Nook used some type plastic for it. I noticed this when i took apart my test item. Maybe they used some new technical solution on digitizer construction, but i have not seen this type before (wrong, just remembered that Dell uses same on some laptops with touchscreen). And the digitizer itself is rather soft. That is why you never had this with phones.
I know that B&N support is horrible, but try to ask anyway. Just see what they say.
About a month ago, there is one person report random touch occur but he had a screen protector on. If you have one on also, it maybe the cause of your problem.

This maybe true because these protection films are all very different material. Some may act with digitizer very strangely.
I actually use on all my 12 items Fosmon cheap anti-glare protectors and no problem. But yes, this Fosmon not the best one.
Thanks for replays. No screen protector. B&N support just asked me to reset device and said it def not a screen prob. I'll test it over next few days. Might just have to return it.

The random extra "top or bottom" click and the lock/unlock to fix it is the same as me.

Thought today it might be caused by faulty sd card so removed it. Was stable for longer but still did it later on - so not sd card. B&M have agreed to replace it but will take up to 3 weeks as apparently I have to send it back to Poland. Better than nothingI guess.
Hopefully next one is more stable. Quite liked CM10 was running great off my 32gb sandisk.
While we are here. Is it normal for device to get warm? I presume it is.

I have seen a few threads and youtube videos about screen issues on the nook HD+.. so this is a common issue?
I have a nook e-ink reader and the touchscreen is horrible.. it gets crazy with presence of minor dust ... unusable... ghost touches.. inaccurate touches.. horrible

[Q] My Nook HD+ body and screen are a bit concave, anyone else?

I purchased a Nook HD+ last weekend and I've noticed that on the long dimension the screen curves a bit inward. More so on one side than the other. I carefully placed a straightedge on the surface of the screen and eyeballed it by looking at light that leaked through. Observed light shining through between the surface of the screen and the edge of the straightedge at the middle of the screen. Worst case is about 1mm. If I look down the long edge of the body a slight curve is plainly evident.
I went by the store today and looked at all the display models and a few were much worse than my HD+. Salesperson agreed with me that it was what he was seeing too. Then said, "I have one and I've never noticed that before."
Whatever! Anyone else notice this on the HD+?
I asked about a replacement. Salesperson was not eager to do that. I still have a few days to think about that. Frankly I was a bit peeved. If no one else here has observed a concave screen, I'll insist they replace and make certain to get a straighter / less concave one.
I did a reflection test with my Nook HD+ screen and did not notice any distortion, the screen is flat.
However, if the battery is swelling a bit that might explain the distortion. And if the battery is swelling, I would insist on a replacement!

Mine has no curvature of the screen, but does have a very slight concave curvature on the left side just above the hole. But that is where I put my left thumb when holding the device in my left hand, so it is probably compressed a bit from hours and hours of holding it. And now that I look again the right side has a very slight concave curvature.
I have two devices and just looked at the other one, which is older, and it has just a slight curvature on the screen and distorts reflection just a bit. And both sides bend slightly.
I hope you have not caused me to be distracted by it now. LOL.

Update
Took the concave HD+ back and got a new one as a replacement. It is "straight" BUT almost every time I tap on the screen near the N button it makes an annoying sound. AND, something else, the bezel that surrounds the screen to the left of the N button makes a snapping/popping sound if you're holding it there and then release it. Like something is not glued or assembled right. At any rate something isn't right.
Yikes, back to the store again before this Thursday and the end of the 14 days.

Okay, I was able to get a new one. It was the last one in stock. I tested it in the store and it wasn't completely flat either. They guy said, he doesn't know why - hasn't happened before. He also said, he isn't sure if BN will produce anymore. They won't get any new ones. So I took the new, bent one.
The device is working fine, just the body is slightely bent again.
Well, I will have to live with it. I don't want to send it away and maybe just get my money back, because they stopped making the HD+.

magnet cover question

Hi all, quick question. If I root my nook hd, will my magnet case stop working? And by that I mean how it turns on when I open and off when I shut the case. Thanks!
It will still work fine with just a root. If you install a CM Rom then it will still work with a little hitch: sometimes opening the cover won't turn the screen on, so close it and open it again and it will then come on. It's a bug in every CM and CM based Rom. Not a big deal, really.

It's not a usability issue though, is annoying at most sometimes but it never amounts to a feeling that I can never enjoy my tablet or feel as if a case with a cover is the worst creation for this device. You make it seem like this tiny, miniscule, insignificant bug is the crippling kegstone factor in using a magnetic case OR a CM Rom and you can't have both.

Well, it is only one annoyance in a long list, but the one I had to deal with every few hours for almost year now. Thanks but no thanks.

Then fix it, you make it sound so easy like nobody has tried.
Really, double lifting the cover isn't some monstrous task that takes an aeon to do or burn 3,000 calories. Just lift drop lift. . It's literally 1.2 seconds.

I have lost over 20 lbs just from lifting my Nook HD cover 2 times every time I want to use it. My just think if I lifted 4 times each time.
Just kidding, it would be nice if it was that easy.
I just bought a magnetic cover & using CM 10.2 and I don't seem to have that minor issue about having to open & close the cover.
Ok if I may ask a very simple & probably stupid question, how does the magnet make the tablet go into sleep mode or whatever it does?
Thank you,
Mark :silly:
I can't say I've had the problem of the device not waking up when I open the cover (Poetic slimline). If this would happen I just put my thumb on "n" or a finger on the power button, as I would if I didn't have a magnetic cover or when it shuts down with the cover opened.
If that's an annoyance, just go back to stock and problem is solved!

The n button and power button won't work. You have to close and reopen. I have the problem as well but while slightly annoying I can live with it.

That's odd! Wonder why it works for me. Could it be the builds? I always use Succulent's builds (or builds he present on his Iamafanof site)..
Do you have a link to his site?

It may be worth checking if your magnet is actually present and "strong enough."
For my Nook HD+, I have a third party cover which has a working magnet.
I recently bought an official B&N cover for the HD+ and it doesn't work at all (stock ROM).
Check ebay, i found genuine b&n magnetic case for 7 bucks there. New and in box, free shipping. There were several sellers had them and many cheap. Got mine auction on third try only bidder... There were so many listed it was quite easy to snag one.
And i am on cm 10.2 and it works just fine.
