OK so hear me out. It seems Nexus devices sold from February onward are shipping with JOP40(X) builds that were never released OTA to older devices.
For example:
New Nexus 4s (as of early February) are shipping with JOP40G.
New Nexus 10s (as of early February) are shipping with JOP40F.
Now, when JOP40G was released to AOSP, in the commit logs, someone made a mention about merges from JOP40E and JOP40F. We know JOP40F is for the Nexus 10, so what was JOP40E for? I'm curious if JOP40E is a build shipping on new Nexus 7 devices.
Has anyone bought a new 3G or WiFi-only Nexus 7 in the last 2 weeks? Did it ship with JOP40E?
If anyone does get one with that build, please get me the bootloader version, baseband version, and URL to the OTA file for the JOP40E -> JDQ39 update file. If you need help with this, I can help you. Having this information will allow me to host the file in the permanent archive repository on randomphantasmagoria.com and link to it in the N7 OTA URL sticky thread. This information will need to be acquired right after taking the tablet out of the box, before applying the 4.2.2 update that'll pop up when you turn it on for the first time.
Thanks!
Haven't you thought that JOP40F - previous N10 build?

JOP40F is what ships presently. If you bought an N10 today, that is what would be on it when you turned it on for the first time. Likewise JOP40G for the Nexus 4. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

My point is, if JOP40F = N10 and JOP40G = N4, does JOP40E = N7? If you bought an N7 right now, today, what build would be on it when you turned it on for the first time. The only way to know is to ask someone who had bought one in the last couple of weeks, which is the point of this thread. I have a suspicion that it would be JOP40E.

Just bought this today and I'll be returning it but here's what it shipped with from Walmart.

OK so it came with JDQ39 out of the box? There wasn't a system update that you applied first?

Well that answers the question as far as the Wi-Fi version is concerned. Thank you!
Now, what about the 3G version? Has anyone bought one of those in the last week or two? If so, did you note what build was installed out of the box?

OK so we definitely know that Wi-Fi models are shipping with JDQ39. Thanks, guys. Anyone buy a new 3G version recently that can verify on that end?

I'm 75% sure that 3G versiipons are being shipped with JDQ39 now as well, since even Wi-Fi versions do

You're probably right...I'd just like to get verification of that from someone who got one.
I have a 3G nexus 7,bought it in December though. Current build number - JDQ39
Thanks.
Is there anyone who purchased a 3G model in the last 3 weeks that can tell me what build came shipped on it, before any OTAs were applied?
Mine is wifi only bought last week JDQ39

My Nexus 7 HSPA (received last week) came with some JVSxx ROM, which was "Android 4.2". Tried to Google the build number, but didn't find any hits. Anyway, it didn't last long since an OTA update was pushed to it almost immediately and I quickly rooted/flashed it to an AOKP build.

It's actually JVP15S. That was the original 4.2 build that shipped on the first 3G N7s off the production line.

Did you already update it to JDQ39? If not, could you get the OTA URL link before you update?
I bought this phone maybe six months ago.
In April, I upgraded the OS and ever since the WiFi is constantly dropping. I've sent the phone in to tech support 3 times and this problem has never been repaired.
The phone is currently running Android version 4.3, Build number 12.1.A.0.266.
Help and Thanks!!

Now that tmo has released WiFi calling on latest update on nexus 6, I'm wondering if this can be used by a dev to get it working on cm/aosp ROM on tmo note4????
Nope

As stated: bought unlocked 6 last week. Got 5.0.2, 5.1 then 5.1.1 right in row when first powered on. Downloaded and installed.
Today, have 5.1.1 Update notifier showing up, even though phone shows already have it.
Not sure what to do.
Anyone have a similar experience?
On TMo, w/ stock LMY47Z?
Thanks in advance

Probably a newer build of 5.1.1. Install it and see if the build number changes.

Most likely, this is because of you being on T-Mobile. The correct build for T-Mobile is LYZ28E.
Thanks for responses.
So I'll continue to receive this until I flash LYZ28E?

Again, most likely.
If I choose to root and flash, does the 28E firmware install TMo bloat?
As much as I would like WiFi calling, that potential has been holding me back

Haven't heard of any T-Mobile bloat at all. Plus, there are quite a few custom ROMs built on the T-Mobile base.

Just DL'd the update and interestingly, phone is now on LYZ28E, w/ WiFi calling.
In all my reading and research, thought that carrier updates were specific to only branded units and not unlocked ones. Had unlocked Sony Z3 on TMo and in six months, never got TMo firmware. That was impetus behind my post.
Thanks again for responses

Things have changed in Nexusland with the N6. While all builds will work on any Nexus 6, certain builds have carrier specific features.
So I ordered my new Nexus 6 from Ebay brand new $300 shipped Then I find out that 6.0 is not even out yet for the Nexus 6 on T-Mobile, what the heck is that about? 6.0 came out like a month ago and all other Nexus devices are on it. What is going on with the T-Mobile version?

6.0 has been available for all carriers for a month or better. It's one unified build MRA58K 6.0.

sure, its out. you can get it right here and install it manually https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en
tmobile might not have approved the update yet, just like verizon, att, and sprint. but it is out officially, and you can install it yourself easily.

No, nuh-uh, nope. All of the Android 5 updates had a T-Mo fork. It's becoming apparent that T-Mo is forking 6.0 for VoLTE and their own apps. I flashed the factory image of M from Google. It worked fine for about a month but I notice a few random reboots. It was annoying but not terrible. Then yesterday, my N6 started rebooting about every 5 minutes. I ran it in Safe Mode to see if an app was causing it but I was still getting the reboots. I thought that I might have a corrupt factory image. So I flashed an new download to the phone. Still no such luck. I finally downgraded to 5.1.1 and took all the OTA security patches. I'm already on the November patch but at least my phone is stable again. I think there may be some validity to the T-Mo N6 being a bit of a red-headed step child (aka VZW Galaxy Nexus).
Read through the various forums and T-Mo's own support site and you'll see that these reports are becoming more frequent where T-Mo N6 users flashing Marshmallow are ending up with a very less than stellar OS.

Wait is the OP talking about a T-mo branded N6?
I'm on T-Mobile, the reason I would like the update is to have the APN setting. I have to play with mine after every flash to get MMS working. I think I've figured it out, but it is a pain. Pure nexus 6.0 is working awesome now

So I guess this will be the official T-Mobile build for M.

No, they are random. I think they are supposed to go out over the course of a week or two.
I would imagine someone will grab the OTA URL soon if they haven't already so you can sideload it if you are impatient. Also possible that they will get the factory image up if you have an unlocked bootloader. T-Mobile's factory image was a little slow to be available in the past.
MRA58X from LVY48I

It looks like there's some crap at the end of the link. I think the forum is adding that because I edited my post and there's nothing else there at the end. Just copy and paste the link and remove the junk at the end
