US Cellular SM-T817R4 Help - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched for root, custom recovery, and ROMs for my US Cellular Tab S2 10.7 SM-T817R4 but can't seem to find anything. Is it out there or am I out of luck?

The the T817r4 uses the same chipset and platform as the the T815. Root and twrp should be compatible.
Roms, your mileage may vary.

900A info please.

Hey all,
I just purchased this NOTE3 SM-N900A, the dork didnt send me a SM-N900T. In any case what I would like to do is root it with an custom ROM. I have tried ODIN about ten times this morning using the T-Mobile md5 file and I keep getting an error about Secure Magiccode Check Fail: Recovery.
The phone is suppose to be rooted but I cant tell.
I have Samsung Sii,SII and S4 but this one (Note 3) is giving me some problems.
Any and all information will be greatly appreciated to get rid of the ATT stuff and just install a custom ROM. I dont care about any warranties and or the KNOX stuff.
I want to install the TMO firmware with the correct modems.
All suggestions and or comments will be greatly appreciated.
on the ODIN SCREEN it states WRITE PROTECTION Enable.
Videos are welcome too!!
Ciao~
Brad
Honestly you may be best off selling the 900A. AT&T has locked the bootloader, so custom roms are limited to one's that work with the stock kernel (basically only touchwiz based roms, no AOSP, CM etc...)

Well Damn, what I really want to add the TMO Firmware. I have it unlocked and rooted, but I want the TMO modems.
It's been done before, there are several threads about it on here somewhere...

Does the AT&T s4 active have unlocked bootloader?

Ok so I see that there's aesop roms for this device, is this the AT&T version?
I know for the AT&T s4 you had to have a certain baseband or modem in order to install custom roms on it.
Is this the case for the S4 active AT&T version? or does it have an unlocked bootloader and ANY version you have you can root/install custom roms?

There are two versions of the Galaxy S4 Active: the U.S./AT&T version (model # SGH-i537) and the international version (model # SGH-i9295). The answer to your question depends entirely on which one you have. As far as I understand the international version has an unlocked bootloader and therefore is capable of running AOSP-based roms, custom recovery, etc.
HOWEVER. If you have the U.S. version i537 (and I suspect you do given you mention AT&T) your bootloader is locked and unfortunately there is nothing you, I, or the devs can do about it. You simply cannot flash AOSP ROMs or recoveries. There is still a way to root this phone and a piece of software called SafeStrap that acts like a custom recovery (nandroid backups, install zips, wipe data, etc.). You can run custom roms, but there's a huge catch: you have to keep the stock kernel and any rom has to be touchwiz-based.

Alright got it, thanks! I was just confused because I remember them announcing it was AT&T exclusive. I didn't know about the international one

Yes, you just need to flash the 4.4.2 modules afterwards.

Root SM-T815Y

Hi Guy, I saw the post How to root Tab S2 but SM-T815Y is not in that list. Can I use SM-T815 instead ?
Thank in advance
CF autoroot.
Just use CF autoroot, under android development. I have exactly the same model and it worked flawlessly.

Yes but t815 firmwares are not compatile with t815y so it's a good question if root is the same

Root and firmware are 2 different things.
All that is required for the root exploit to work is that the kernel it uses is bootable and can mount the partitions.
Considering these devices are essentially the same, as long as it flashes and boots it should work.
The point is moot anyway as it's already confirmed to work.
Hi Guy, Confirm root my device by using CF Auto Root SM-T815
Thanks
Now is all about waiting for 5.1 update or any rom.
Any kernels or rom work on the Y variant?
Thanks guys.

Pretty much any custom rom/kernel should work even wifi only, but obviously no LTE.
Its up to you to try it out and make sure you have a backup.
Is there a specific root dedicated only to 815Y device?
I used the method specified here to root on my SM-T815Y device (Made in Brazil). While Odin has shown that everything had gone well and without fail, my tablet came into infinite boot (soft brick).
I've seen here that some people managed to root their "Y" devices, but personally don't know if they are equal in all locations where they are produced
Apparently the "Y" makes all the difference. Is there a specific root dedicated only to 815Y device? If there, would be grateful to know. Tks

So you have a T817W not a T917W model as shown in your question title eh?
I have the T817W with Bell, but managed to root and installed even the Xposed on it with the help from Ashyx.
Please read message #270 from here, but you may want to read a few more pages back. There are a lot of good information there that helped me. You will have yours rooted at no time. My LTE still works fine too.

Rooted with Xposed, and still have LTE here too.

Question: Tab E at&t sm-t377a w/6.0.1 MM, is there root available?

Is there a root method for sm-t377a running MM 6.0.1?
This is a Tab E (according to bootup splash screen). I have seen methods for other variants but the A variant seems to be a vague area.
If this is answered elsewhere, and I missed it please point me in the right direction. THANKS!

Any help would be appreciated
Sent from my Rooted Galaxy S7 EDGE on Android 7.0 Nougat, here's the instructions how to do it!
From what I have gathered the AT&T version SM-T377A is an Exynos CPU
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=device&id=9353&c=samsung_sm-t377a_galaxy_tab_e_8.0_4g_lte
And according the the linked web site, the 377T (tmobile) version is also, where the 377P (sprint) is a Qualcomm CPU. (again, according to that linked web site above)
I have seen a few method for root on the 377P sprint variant, which I'm assuming will not work since its different architecture. I would guess that if a 377T method was available it would work on the 377A version? But with the extreme lack of information regarding this model - I would wait until someone confirms a working method.
Is there a root method??
Kingroot
I have the same problem I just can't root it. But a came across this article that pretty much says they have actually rooted a tab e sm t377a from at&t successfully with kingroot with or without pc. just Google costume recovery tab e sm t377a and choose the one from

Couldn't make it work but check it out, I am new to all this maybe I didn't understand some thing maybe you do. If you find a way to root please let me know... I will do the same.

will not root marsmallow...I've tried it
I'm about to sell this tablet and get the sprint 9.6 unlocked. This thing is super slow running all this att stuff
I don't see how it could be incredibly different from the methods of rooting my at&t g950u snapdragon 835 s8. I still have locked bootloader and didn't trip Knox. No custom recovery is available or magisk but Xposed is working. Tab e t337a also has a locked bootloader w/ Knox. Really only difference is the processor architecture is exynos 3475.
yesssss!...what he said!!!!....fast forward 2 yrs later and still no root!
