So in the last couple of weeks my MX14 seems to be getting slower and slower. I went in and dumped all my photos, freeing up an additional 3.5 gb but the lag just keeps getting worse. I'm just trying to keep this phone running for a few more months until I upgrade to something new...does anyone have any suggestions what to check to try to correct the slowness?
Go into recovery and wipe cache .....if that doesn't work do a factory reset ... Or do what I did and install cm14 ...super smooth

I don't get an upgrade till June 2013, and I'm just sick and tired of this phone. Its just not as snappy, fast or useful as it once was. Tried rooting and custom ROMS and all but it just gets slow time and time again.
What are my options for a decent replacement or better phone for under $150? I was thinking the Galaxy Nexus? Ideas? Thanks.
Galaxy Nexus
The Galaxy Nexus is awesome!! Went from the Revo to a T-Bolt via Verizon replacement. T-Bolt sucked so I bought a used Nexus about 2 months ago and absolutely love it. It is leaps and bounds more advanced than the Revo and will probably last well past your upgrade date because of the strong developer community. No brainer here.
Droid bionic is another decent replacement. Just upgraded to ICS and has JB based custom roms. It also has TWRP recovery that gives the ability to boot between 4 custom roms plus stock

Factory reset, limit apps, and watch RAM/cache?
Just a thought, because I went from the laggiest Revo to a perfectly acceptable Revo. Actually, I was forced to, when my original Revo got the infamous boot-to-lit-gray-screen. So I bought a used one off eBay.
Old Revo: 170 apps (at one time, over 200), very laggy. I knew I had too many apps, because it performed considerably better when I reduced from 200 to 170.
New Revo: I judiciously added only 58 apps to the pre-intalled 54 for a total of 112. It's a whole new world, I'd even say it's speedy. (I only updated one of the pre-installed apps, Kindle.)
Caveat: I watch my RAM usage constantly (e.g., Settings-->Applications-->Running services), and am at the borderline already, ranging from about 70 - 150 MB free RAM at any one time. That means I cannot have an e-mail app other than Gmail (e-mail apps use about 50MB of RAM), so instead I use a browser to read the non-Gmail accounts (seems fine enough to me).
On the other hand, maybe mine will get slow again, like yours did. But I don't see technically why it should, if I continually watch my RAM and cache and limit my number of apps (like for seldom needed apps, just install, use, uninstall), and severely limit the number of widgets.
Just posted in case you want to try this (free) route via a Factory reset. (Free in money, not in time.)
The revo definitely runs better if you take an approach like jjt2mey's above. But if you just can't do without a lot of apps installed and running you'll need something more robust. My droid 4 is very snappy without having to be careful about what's installed and running. I imagine that means the similar razr line would be too.

So anyone else lagging since the JB upgrade. My phone is running like its got the molasses ROM installed. Everything is running sloooow. From opening apps, typing etc. I've tried all of the other JB ROMS but need Car dock running so can't really use them. Guess I could factory reset, but worried about my tenacious grip on root. I'v been thinking about jumping the Motorola ship and getting myself an S4. Then I have to start from scratch on all my docks Plus who knows when they will be fully in stock.
So really just need to streartch out the Bionic for a few more weeks.
I haven't experienced anything of the sort :3

Ditto here. With stock ICS my Bionic was very tolerable. Once I took the JB update, which I assumed would mean it would be even better, it was RIDICULOUSLY laggy. Everything you said, opening apps, typing, freeze ups. Went on a search for how to root and install a rom. Got rooted, tried blurry, was almost as bad as the stock JB with the lag, tried flyingjelly briefly. It looked decent, but I didnt give it a very long trial as I then found liquidsmooth. And the name does live up to its billing. My rooted bionic on liquidsmooth has been running very, very good. But my next upgrade, which Im due right now, will be an S4

Do a factory data reset. You won't lose root (root lives in system partition). It will clear up your lag. Then like voodoo said, slap liquidsmooth on it and be on your merry way. No need for this silly S4 talk...
My phone is frustratingly slow after the update. I've tried some of the ROMS that were built for it but those are bad as well. Is it just me or is everyone's phone this slow? Sometimes it'll take like 5 seconds to open an app or go from the lock screen to an app. Im super bummed because I really like'd how well the phone ran with ICS.

I had the exact same experience. With ICS it was pretty smooth, after the OTA to JB it sucked, bad. I tried a handful of roms, none that seemed that great. Until I came across the liquidsmooth one here. Thats what Im running now, no complaints at all. Fast, responsive, super customizable. Give it a look if you havent already.
Agree with voodoodaddy I had the same issue and liquid smooth 2.4 is so far the fastest, most stable, full functioning ROM out there. Just remember to install it on ROM slot 3
Is the phone running at 1.2 by default? If so you might want to drop it down to 1.0 and try it for a while

Are you talking about the clock speed? It's completely stock (w/root) I haven't screwed with any hardware settings at all.
Even LTE is slow. Im on YouTube right now and it's buffering ever 20 second or so.
My bionic is also frustratingly slow. The stock ROM does an incredibly terrible job of managing background tasks and memory usage. I would switch roms but I have all these motorola accessories that typically don't work on anything but a stock rom. It's really awful. Unless some real changes are made this will be my last Motorola device. Samsung has really stepped up their game and I see no reason to go with someone else.

The reason I asked was because in certain phones when the ota ICS they bumped up the click speed to 1.2. I found on mine the phone couldn't handle that bump and it suffered similar to what your describing until I took it back down to 1.0

Y'all can also try doing a FDR (factory data reset). Been known to help with some after an upgrade. You won't lose root.
Before I updated to JB I FXZ'd to stock ICS. So I would imagine that would kick me back down to 1.0 no?
As I typed my response I realized I should just check rather then ask...so I DL'd no frills and sure enough it was at 1.2. So I bumped it back to 1.0. We'll see what happens.
Thanks
Let us know, since ICS I've been running under clocked and using CPU Sleeper. Been getting great battery life and no problems

I am having the same problems, apps slow to load, serious lag when typing, etc... I just checked and I am running at 1 GHz too. Battery life went from 10 hours on ICS to 7 on JB. I recently rooted but I was having these issues when everything was all stock.
How long have you had your Bionic? This is about the time the batteries starts dying and that can cause problems too

So after making the change to 1.0 for a few days that appears to have been my problem. Phone is running much better.
I've just updated to 4.4.3 today which seemed buggy (not responding etc) I then updated to 4.4.4. The lag has made it unusable. If I click settings for example I get a lag of quite a few seconds. I never had this before I updated.
I've done a search it seems like I'm the only one. Has anyone else had this problem? Did updating it to 5.0 cure it? (I haven't got the OTA update for 5.0)
PS My device is unrooted & staying that way. I'm not interested in hearing a lecture about it & I won't enter into a debate about it.
Have you Factory Reset yet? You are the only one.

No chance, that's the absolute last resort not the first.
There are heaps of threads on here about 5 having lag and many people rolling back to 4.4.4 so they could have a lag free experience. I'm running 5.0.2 and everything feels fine. If you are going to wipe it you might as well download the latest 5.0.2 image from google.

As I said in the OP I'm not rooted
You don't need to root, just flash it. But your lag will only get worse. If you really want to get rid of the lag, factory reset. You can try just wiping the dalvic cache first, but if that doesn't work, backing up your stuff and wiping it is the real man's way to go. Just do it, you'll be better off in the long run.

In my case, lag was resolved after they changed motherboard in my unit due to malfunction (I had warranty).
5.0 will not fix your issues but I don't think you should have to wipe your device either. You may have to to restore order to your N7. Google is also supposed to be updating us again sometime here too.
i was 3 updates behind, its my daughters tablet (3 year old) and she uses plex mostly. It was flawless until i updated it to 4.4.4. Now plex lags so bad she is using my tablet. I was hoping 5.x would fix this..
I've never done a factory reset after the first reset when I unlocked the bootloader (on 4.1.2), although I have restored nandroid once early on, so yeah I agree with OP fdr should be and can be a last resort thing.
As for the lag, I think after every update there's a lag grace period where things are sort of settling in, can take a few days of use and restarts to get back to normal. I seem to recall 4.4.4 started out a little stuttery and got smoother, eventually becoming very smooth. The exception to this was 5.0 which got slightly better but not much, although luckily I didn't experience the worst of it as others have reported.
5.0.2 is great. At first it seemed only slightly better than 5.0, but now it's very smooth.
Things that might help:
Clear Device Cache in recovery
Disable any (background intensive) system apps you don't need
Hi guys,
I have a Moto G 2014(xt1068) I've have been using CM 13 for 4 months now but after every two months, my phone's performance slows down. I have to factory reset my phone after every 2-3 months to keep it working smooth and stable. I want to know does this happen with your phone if yes how do you overcome this problem ? I have tried lot's of apps like Greenify and Better Battery Stats but I'm unable to solve this problem. Can anyone guide me what possibly the problem could be and how do I detect what's the root cause of this problem how do I overcome this? Also, I wanna know can an android phone work as smooth as an iPhone?
Waiting for reply..:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Have you tried doing the following? get 1Gb free space at least then run fstrim monthly based (sorry, that's what I did with my old GNEX every time it slowed down or experienced as you did.
