Ever decreasing storage space - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 T817T
rooted and installed twrp 3.0.0
I've noticed as time goes by storage space is decreasing.
I have a couple files that are increasing size daily.
/data/SB_in_dump_Lagacy_48k_16bit.pcm
/data/SB_out_dump_Lagacy_48k_16bit.pcm
Both are currently 1.92 gb and rising.
A Google search turned up nothing.
Any ideas what those files are for? Judging by the name something to do with audio but I have no idea what. I don't have any 3rd party audio apps installed.

I have the exact same problem with my galaxy tab s2 SM-T817T rooted with TWRP 3.1.0. I've deleted them multiple times and yet they continue to reappear, so I just keep deleting them until someone figures out what they are.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
Still an issue for me too.
Seems like the more I watch videos in the YouTube app the faster the files increase size but I could be wrong.

[Q] Is my Galaxy S more laggy than everyone elses?

I've had a 16gb Samsung Galaxy S on Three in the UK since they launched last year, and it's the only Android phone I've used.
It's pretty laggy, but since I'd read a lot about Galaxy lag online, I assumed this was to be expected.
However, I had to help a colleague with a problem on their HTC Wildfire today (a lower spec phone, as far as I know), and was amazed how much more responsive than my Galaxy S.
It didn't seem to show any of the laggy, hanging-ey behaviour I experience. I have more apps installed than the Wildfire, but I'm quite careful not to install anything that's going to run at startup or cause problems (mostlly just games, no widgets, etc.)
As an example, if I turn the phone on clean, wait for everything to be loaded and ready (media scanning to finish, etc.) then poke the "Market" button, it takes 28 seconds for it to be loaded and responsive. Close that, poke the Facebook button, over 20 seconds until I'm shown the news feed. Sometimes when the phone rings on my desk, I literally won't be able to get it to respond enough to answer the call before the caller hangs up. If I try to switch from program to program, I end up getting quite a lot of frustrating 20-30s hangs and pauses. This is all on a decent wifi connection, so the problem isn't data related.
The question is - how laggy should a Galaxy S be? Would it work better if I added an SD card (with the 16gb phone memory, I didn't see the need)? Is it worth installing a lagfix under Froyo (I tried one back on 2.1, but didn't notice a huge amount of difference)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I think its sometimes very busy rebuilding it's wifi connection. Or some other process.
Am not sure.

I didn't see any speed difference with SD card IN/OUT so i don't think you will have faster phone by inserting it (SD card).
Why don't you try a reset and see if that works? Also are you on eclair or froyo because that would make a world of difference if you upgraded
I just got my sgs from bell Canada last Tuesday. It has all stock with launcherpro and a few Widgets. So far (knock wood) its been a big step up over my HTC dream. I experience maybe 10 seconds of startup lag and then for the rest of the day its awesome. My firmware version is the newest one bell offers (jl2 Frito). What android version are you running?

That's exactly my experience. The only way to solve it is with a good lagfix and/or flashing JPY firmware
This will get almost instant loading of apps and only minor lags when switching apps. It's still slow when scrolling icons and such... my previous phone, iphoe 3g, is still faster than this crap-phone
Cheers,
Soulbrighter
My Galaxy S was laggy as hell brand new out of the box. Sometimes it would hang for what seemed like 10 seconds. I didn't like the Samsung launcher anyway, so I did my homework, made sure I could get into 3-button download mode, and then rooted, wiped and flashed a custom Froyo ROM. I've tried a few ROMs since then and have landed on Insanity with EXT4 lagfix.
Now my Galaxy S is _awesome_ ... I don't even bother overclocking it, everything is smooth.
try a task killer and set it up to auto kill when screens goes off done a few tests with it ,one with no killer and one with and the one with was faster and had no lag fix running too go to the market and get quadrant standard try it for yourself and see
What's the current firmware you're using ? I suggest flashing to JPY and testing it out.
Update to JPY!
If not possible, install a lagfix on your current ROM/kernel.
The amount of lag you describe is terrible, I have never seen it that bad...
I don't think the lag should be that bad, I did experience some occassional lag back on eclair, but never exceeded 5-10 seconds. Usually after loading whatever that app was once, it'd be okay on the next open too.
Since I've upgraded to JPY i see 1-2 second lag extremely rarely.
Maybe you can get a task manager and see if anything is hogging memory?
Thanks for all the responses. The firmware is FROYO.XXJPO, so I'll definitely try flashing to JPY and will report back! Thanks so much for the tip!

[Q] eclair live wallpapers

Just got my Galaxy S up and running on AT&T. It's the unbranded phone - not a captivate.
What is the best stable rom right now? I read about the official version codes, but I'm confused as to JR, JP, JM, etc.
At this point I just want something that's fast and works, so probably something 2.1 based. Later when I have more time I'll play with Froyo.
[Q] SGS South American Version will come whit DIGITAL TV reception

[Q] Laggy pinch-to-zoom
Hi everybody!
When i use the pinch-to-zoom function in my browser (the default browser on SGS), it's very slow. It is very laggy and not fast at all. Is there a fix for this or have I missed something?
please help!
Think you've answered your own question there.
If you want it on 2.1 install launcherpro or something.

[Q] Battery Drain on Mimocan Lag Fix
Hello all
I have noticed that my battry drain very fast after I applyed the Mimocan lag fix with a Sandisk 16 gb card Class 2 (all thanks to Mimocan for this lag fix. Apps run much smoother).
The main problem is when the phone goes in to standby. Last night it drained 22% even with all sync action diabled and all apps killed. Before the lag fix I did only see a 2-4% drop in battery over night.
To compare it drained more then a 15 min call I made before I went to sleep (35% vs 25% of total battery used. I pulled it out of the charger 5 min. before the call, so the data should be correct)
When the phone is activated, it seem like the battery drain is about normal.
I wonder if all/most ppl have this problem or is it just me?
My guess is that the SD card is activated all the time to acces apps data, and thus drain the battery.
Im on the m2 software, but I dont know if its the software or just a common issue when doing this lagfix?
Give a comment, Thx.
[Q] What drivers are needed for Odin?
Like other people, I'm having extreme difficulty connecting my SGS to PC with USB. I have tried just about everything mentioned in the forums, including:
-USB drivers from Kies and other sources (like the ATT Captivate drivers). Usually the Kies downloaded package installs all, but it cannot find the samsung modem driver when I plug in the phone. The Captivate drivers could not find "USB gadget". I tried installing both.
-Reformatting SD card (actually allows me to connect to 91 Panda PC Helper in -debug mode... but that's it)
-Erasing all references to Nokia and Motorola using Regedit. However I did not erase references to Samnsung or Windows Mobile)
-Praying to the creator
-Sacrifice of chicken
-Starting phone while connected to USB
-turning off antivirus.
I tried flashing phone using odin, in download mode, but it seemed that odin could not see my phone. Nothing happened.
Anyone have other ideas?
[Q] Lagging in ALL KINDS of music player after flashing samset1.9
I dont know if it is just an issue only to me, but I am having lags in any music player i tried after flashing samset 1.9.Generally the device runs other apps really fast but the sound and music lags all the time except when I leave the device be to just playing the music. [Q] open img files from ClockworkMod Recovery?
Does anyone know a way to open the backup img files created by ClockworkMod Recovery?
[Q] Is the latest fix completely safe for device longterm?
Some people are wary of the stress caused by the latest fix, I am very very new to smartphone's in general and wanted the honest opinions of those who truly know android/device hardware.
There is a lot of well intentioned misinformed posters in any forum. But these things are important to get correct, I would much rather wreck my external 32GB card than the actual phone internal memory.
[Q] Busybox not installing
Hey all,
I am having a problem with busybox. According to the 1.18 installer, I have 1.15.3 installed. But the installer won't let me upgrade because 'the nand is not unlocked'. When I try the older 1.17 version, I suddenly have no busybox installed and have the same message with the failed instalation. What can I do....
Running jm5 with samset 1.9 (ext 3/4 fix not applied).
Alvast bedankt.
[Q] Wake the phone using Menu, Home or Back button?
Like the title says. Does anyone know if there's a way to wake the phone up using the Menu, Home or Back button like they've been able to do with the Desire and Nexus One?
Reference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696907&goto=newpost
Samsung placed the power button at an awkward place. I assume it wouldn't be too hard to accomplish this. Probably using an app or coded into custom ROMs?
EDIT: Don't have the phone yet but so I assumed it couldn't do it like the Desire. it seems you can wake the phone with Home and Power. I think the thread above details how to enable/disable the other buttons in waking the phone as well. Looks like a simple editing of the keyboard layout and then pushing it back. Thanks.
[Q] Still lag in Contacts and Phone even with Quadrant score 2106
I am now having Quadrant score of 2106 after using RyanZAEXT2Lagfix Alpha1. It is a huge increase. However, i still notice the annoying lag in CLOSING of application such as CONTACTS and PHONE. Opening of these application is also not as seemless as in Desire HTC sense which I previously own.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
[Q] No missed calls, sms, emails showing on icons
Last rom to work was a froyo rom, now any rom i put on dose not show a numeric sign to how many sms, emails or missed calls have not been read, please dose anyone know why?
[Q] ODIN questions
Hi there,
Could anyone tell me what will happen if I did the following:
I checked around but I don't think these minor questions have been covered in the big FAQ
Is it necessary to apply repartitioning when updating to a new firmware?
Will you corrupt data if you upgrade just 'modem' or 'csc' on ODIN?
Will you retain all your data if you don't go for repartition when updating to new firmware?
I've successfully flashed 2 new firmwares. One of them was Russian (jm5) and I was told a bit after than I can just apply the jm1 csc. Anyway, I got over it and just reflashed back to JM2 as it was stable enough.
Thanks
[Q] Headphones and micro issue
Hi,
I am the happy owner of HiDefDrum (+micro) - by atomic floyd - headphones I bought originally for my iPhone. It worked great with the iPhone 3G 16Go (sound, microphone and button).
Now I bought a Samsung Galaxy S last week, and I have problems with my headphones.
If I plug the headphones completely, the sound is weird when I listen to music (as if I heard only an echo of the sound, I don't even hear the voice of the singer) unless... I press the headphones button ! Then the sound is normal.
I can listen to a normal sound when I do not plug the headphones completely (leaving the last part of the plug outside).
And in any case, the microphone does not work.
I thought it was a hardware problem, until I saw that we can access many configuration settings using the code *#*#197328640#*#*
I guess the problem can be solved by modifying some settings in this menu, but I have no idea which !
Can anyone help ?
[Q] Question before drastic measures :) experts please
Hi Guys
I have tried all sorts of lag fixes on this forum, but after installing a couple of apps (10 to 15 in my case). The telephone is sluggish and laggy.
Yesterday i got fed up oflag fixes and firmware flashing hoping that the next version will be the solution so i put it on one of the online selling websites
I really like the way the phone looks and its amazing hardware but i am really not sure whether to keep it or sell it
Everyone keeps saying that the froyo 2.2 update will solve all the problems, so would you guys recommend holding on to the phone till end of september till the froyo is released, or should i sell it now and minimize my losses and try some other mobile phone
Is it true that 2.2 is gonna do its magic regarding lag and the time it takes to load an app, or am I having high expectations
[Q] Couple of newbie questions :)
Greetings fellow Friends from Galaxy
I just moved myself from the HTC Magic section to this one.. It was quite a jump, the Galaxy S Camera and 4inch screen are AWESOME =)
I have a few noob questions that I don't want to spread through many posts, so i've chosen to get them all here, without polution this forum section. Also they might come in handy for future Galaxy S buyers!
My phone is: 2.1-update1 @ I9000XXJF5
Question #1
Well at first glance everyone's trying to fix the "LAG PROBLEM"... I haven't noticed any lag!! What are we talking about? If its a fix.. i want it too
Question #2
The phone came with Android 2.1, but at samsung-firmwares.com and at this dev section of the forum, i saw the JP3 Froyo release. How stable is this? Is it already a daily driver or a total beta? As an Android lover, i'd love to have the latest
Question #3
I've used the One Click rooting solution and then the ROM Manager Clockwork to boot into clockwork rom and make a full-system backup. In my HTC Magic i had the recovery ROM (Amon_RA) flashed into the internal phone memory, so even if i didn't have a ROM installed, i was ALWAYS able to boot into recovery. That was a safety plus. How can i flash the Clockwork Recovery directly to my phone, without the ROM Manager? I'd feel more secure if i could count on recovery even if, for example, i flashed a non-working system ROM.
Question #4
So what is YOUR favourite ROM? My stock has some unwanted apps, and even worse, it's Eclair. I'd like to switch soon, but i don't know these Galaxy S ROMs Tell me what's the best ROM for you!
Thanks guys, XDA is indeed the #1 place for mobile stuff
Cheers

[Q] Slow / lag HTC One M7

Hi guys,
I've had my HTC One for over a year now and love it except recently it seems to have gone really slow / sluggish and visibly takes ages to do anything recently. For instance today in work I wanted to show someone a photo I took on my camera this morning... I went into the camera app and then clicked the thumbnail at the bottom to get to gallery and it must have taken 30 seconds to open the picture.... as much as I have iPhones, with them I have seen people click and it is pretty much instant....
I have updated it to the latest software (4.4.2) as soon as it was available a few months back and it is completely stock / unrooted etc.
Is there any way to either a) find out what is making it slow or b) get something to make it faster?
To note, I would rather not root / install a custom rom if I don't have to but if thats the only way then please do say so.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Did you install any new Apps that might be hogging resources?
There are process loggers and probably take a look at battery drain to identify apps.
I'd suggest to backup essential information (just in case) and perform a factory reset.
Thanks for the responses guys:
@gotcha69 - I install apps all of the time so it may well be this but I have no idea how to track down which one is at fault, shy of a very long process of installing everything one by one...
@davebugyi - can you recommend a process logger please? Looking at battery app usage this morning, 41% Google Play Services, 40% Android System, 5% MX Player and TV Catchup 2%... does any of that seem unusual?
Was watching a video on the way to work this morning and when I got there, pressed pause and it took a couple of seconds to actually stop the playback. I just cant get my head around a phone more powerful than most desktop/laptop computers from 3 years ago can be so sluggish for simple actions.
Definitely thinking about a factory reset - is there any way to backup apps on a non-rooted phone?
@gk141054 - I use only the built-in app in Android Tuner, but you can try OS Monitor or Elixir 2 or CPU Monitor.
For me GP services a bit too much in my opinion.
To back-up things you can use the accounts sync option on a non rooted device - copy all your stuff into a computer from SD Card, but nothing much can be done with apps. Maybe you can try HTC's backup app (can't help much, since I am rooted and using Titanium backup).
Check your media server

I've been having a bunch of trouble recently on my HTC One... some app update (I suspect Twitter for various reasons) has been causing my HTC's media scanner to go crazy, frequently hogging 25% CPU and causing 15% logcat (as measured by CPU Monitor).
I finally solved the problem seemingly by force closing the media server, clearing its data, force stop twitter, clear its cache, and delete it's cache folder (Android/data/...twitter/cache). For good measure, I also cleared .thumbnails (DCIM/.thumbnails, use ES file manager and enable hidden files).
Your mileage may vary...

I had definitely the same issues with my HTC One M7. I identified Mediaserver as the source of the problem. Mediaserver regularly scans all files on the device.
What I did to get rid of the problem is installing SD Maid (Pro) (no rooted device needed!). Scanning and deleting all the trash files that accumulated in the last 2 years freed about 2 GB of space!
Since then no lag on my HTC One was encountered!

Hi,
I'm trying to fix an issue with my mum's Galaxy Mini, she only uses WhatsApp, camera and calls/texts. There are no other 3rd party (downloaded) apps installed but when trying to update WhatsApp from the Play Store it tells me there is no space left or something.
Her phone is ridiculously slow as well, I've tried formatting it and starting fresh in the past but nothing works.
What are my options for fixing this issue? Will a custom rom work? Could you please suggest any.
Thanks.

SnapDragon severe hiccups, stutters.

I've got a N910G (SD805) and from new it's had these slowdowns hiccups that I've read people attribute to TW.
This is my 7th Samsung device and it's the only time I've experienced them.
Symptoms: Everything runs fine, then randomly freezes... sometimes I think I haven't tapped properly and when it recovers it's like I've pressed the softkeys or screen multiple times. The hiccups happen with any program at any time... like rootexplorer just scrolling up and down a file list.
I have a SM-G906S which also has an SD805, and it's never frozen, lagged or hiccups.
- I've done a factory reset.
- Downloaded/applied the latest fw from sammobile.
- Removed knox, and most of the other bloat.
- Edited build.prop, + applied all 3C Toolbox Pro optimizations.
Does anyone one have any idea what might be causing the issues? I noticed Flossy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdYuj2NSZZ0) is experiencing the same issue.

Try increasing the minimum ram available. Autokiller Memory Optimizer does that and it isn't a task killer. This app simply increases how much ram is available and doesn't change how android manages ram. When it gets to a point where there is almost no ram available, the system gets slow until it frees more. I've been using the custom setting of 100 instead of default 84 and never had the issue, but I'm not sure this is the problem though, but you can give it a try.
do you have installed xposed? Wanam? if so, you need to freeze S-Health in titanium backup as it totally crashes with those. i had insanely lags and even sms messages was troubling because of this.
read, post 22 on page 3 should get you going. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/xposed-t2904937
Thanks, it's not a lack of memory problem bcos it happens just after booting.
Sometimes apps while installing (Playstore and filesystem) also freeze or stall... again never seen that before.
I've also tried Wanam's TouchWiz DVFS, but that hasn't helped either.
Also I use Wanam's Xposed, and it has a CRT type screen off effect... well has also frozen for a couple seconds... so you can see just the center bit of screen white.
I'm reluctant to think it's a hw problem.... but ain't seen no crap like this before.
Don't get me wrong the phone still works fine, it just stutters now and again.
Also I can only get 44000-45000 score on antutu, whereas the G906s which is clocked 200MHz lower scores 46000-47500.

S-Health is completely removed... heart rate monitor is total junk.
I have my doubts about DCMprovider, it's using a bit of resources.
ro.securestorage.support=false
and freezing DCMprovider.apk seems to have helped... I haven't noticed as many stutters.
Did you do it in the order described in the post? If anything, flash new firmware from sammobile, and do it as described. Report back
My phone was useless until I did this, because I enabled s health. Also, have you disabled secure storage?

I didn't reinstall xposed, just update build.prop with ro.securestorage.support=false.
But I previously deleted:
system\priv-app\HealthService.apk
system\priv-app\HealthService.odex
system\priv-app\SHealth3_5.apk
system\priv-app\SHealth3_5.odex
build.prop has a couple other security settings like
ro.security.mdpp....
Any idea what these do?
Thanks for the "ro.securestorage.support" link.
Now TW is crashing when launching any app; settings work.
:crying:
Ouch, I think why the xposed ****s up the s health and make phone lag is some sensors going nuts, it's tied in with other things as well and consumes a lot of resources, that's why you should do it in the recommended order previously mentioned. Titanium Backup and flash new firmware with Odin.
In the Developer's Options, there's a setting to reduce animation, or force GPU rendering, just giving you more ideas things to play around with.

Yes the Ext SD is also causing a stutters... are there any updated drivers, or tweaks?
What I don't get is why the G906S is SOOO much faster, the only difference between the 2 is S-Pen and 4.4.2 vs 4.4.4.
Pressing the home button there's a 0.5~1 second delay before it goes Home (S-Voice disabled); G906S ~0.2sec delay.
S-View case, you have to keep it open for ~2 seconds for it to switch on; G906S 0.2 sec delay.
Searching through file system using Root Explorer, is also much faster on the G906S.
What I am getting at with the comparison... well I think Samsung have added or updated something which has introduced significant lag.
