Tmobile Tethering , now throttled out of nowhere ( dun added in apn) - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Need a bit of help , for years I have been using the native tethering in Android on Tmobile unlimited by simply adding (,dun) to end of the apn and putting ipv4/ipv6 . This has worked flawlessly for years and two days ago it simply stopped , now my wifi tether is .23mbps aka unusable. I have not changed plans nor altered anything with the phone.

Which is the best US provider to use with the imported Diamond2?

Hey guys,
I was wondering, which one of the different US providers would you recommend to use with an imported unlocked diamond2?
I'm currently with AT&T, and I'm having a lot of issues to connect to MediaNet... For some unknown reason, the phone looses its connection:
- every single time after either a reboot or using wifi
- on time to time, randomly without any specific reason
My main concern being: it's a pain to get it back! It takes several reboot and retry to re-setup the data connection.
I was wondering if some of you have actually experience better result with other provider or even with AT&T... (note: i m on a pay-as-you-go plan for phone and data)
Thanks,
Kandjar
I, too, am using Diamond2 with ATT and I'm ok with it. Granted, I've given up trying to use MediaNet on this phone but not really missing it.
I'm on T-mobile with the $5.99 unlimited data (T-Mobile Web). It's now $9.99 Web2Go if you are starting a new contract with limited data. Everything is working fine and the other day I got my email working on the diamond2 through the $5.99 plan.
No connection problems at all.
Same here with T-Mobile and the T-Zones plan, my call quality is pretty good with no drops & edge has descent speeds.
Wow, ok, once my pay-as-you-go expired, I'll definitively check T-Mobile!
AT&T data plan is slow and not very stable for me...
The main reason I need it is: mails!
I got so addicted to the 'read mail everywhere' plan, it's scary... When it doesn't work, it's bugging the heck out of me
I found in the 'phone setting' that it's possible to change the baseband; so instead of having them set to 'auto', I'm trying to force them to be:
'gsm' and '1900+850' to see if there is any improvements.
In any case T-Mobile does sound a lot cheaper...
I m currently paying $100 for 400 minutes (good for a year) and $20/month for 100MB... That's about $30/months.
Thanks for the replies

Edge on T-mo has really good speeds here in CO. That's why I don't mind not having 3G. Soon enough manufacturers will be making quadband 3g handsets. I hope.
Any who kandjar if you need help with the data settings if and when you switch to T-mo just post up. If you search google for T-mobile wireless configurator you can get the settings by selecting any WinMo phone in the list ut you have to change some things.
Edit*
Disregard that last part about the configurator. The D2 finds the settings automagically for you. But you still have to change 1 or 2 things so it'll work.
That's cool, thanks!
By the way: does the youtube app work with T-Mobile?
It doesn't seem to work at all with AT&T...
Or does it only work with 3g?

Youtube worked on my Diamond2 with ATT. I don't have a data package with ATT, but I have wifi in my complex and I can watch Youtube on the Wifi.
As well as sending/receiving emails.
True, I should have been a bit more explicit..
I also managed to get it to work through wifi...
I m just wondering if this work with data plan (through medianet ...)

Yes it works fine on T-mobile edge. Maybe AT&T edge is a bit slow? IDK? This is on T-zones might I add. Not T-mobiles full web service. Who needs that with opera available?

[Q] 3G connectivity / IMEI# ?

HI,
My wife and I are with Virgin Canada started with a Galaxy 550 purchased along with a 3 yr contract, everything was fine and I can use 3G data on demand (...opt to have no data plan but on demand like $ 50 / MB...LOL) . About 2 mths ago, we both upgraded to SGS bought from some guy on Kijiji , and everything has been working fine.
I started flashing roms and did all kinds of things to my SGS, and found that I can't get on 3G data which I thought it must be related to the flashings etc.
Now, I just tried using my wife's SGS which is stock 2.2 , and I still can't connect to 3G data.
(both APN settings are correct, triple checked them already)
So, my question is do I need to notify Virgin that we have changed phones and let them register our IMEI # before we can connect to 3G ?
Thanks in advance ..!
an imei registration shouldn't be necessary for data; i've used data on my Xperia X10 and popped out the sim and placed it in my SGS w/o issues.

Unlocked on Tmobile Fix Request

I finally got my Sprint HTC One to accept my prepaid Tmobile SIM, I have not tested out data yet since I only use the pay by the minute plan (I will upgrade to unlimited everything later)
But it constantly keeps disconnecting and I have to manually connect it to Tmobile's network.
This usually happens if I'm moving, or if the signal is weak. (For example, I never lost connection overnight at my house, but I did lose it while I drove to work this morning, and since I would get like 1 or 2 bars inside my work, it kept on disconnecting.
Right now I set the settings to GSM Auto (PRL) seems to be stable, but I've stayed in one place so far.
I've tried WCDMA preffered, but it says "This SIM does not allow connection to this network"(could be because I'm "Pay by the minute"'?)
I also Turned on IMS registration required in the Phone info setting place, but I don't know if that makes any difference.
If we can somehow get this fixed then it would be awesome! Since I already canceled my Sprint contract and switched to Tmobile prepaid to save some money.

Updated to 6.0....lost tethering. [METROPCS]

So here's the deal.....I eagerly flashed 6.0 on Monday as soon as I got home from work. I'm on the MetroPCS $60 unlimited LTE plan w/ 6 GB of tethering.
After the update, I can't get tethering to work. It will turn on, and from the phone's perspective it works fine. I can connect to it with my Nexus 9....but no internet. I've rechecked and reentered my APN setttings several times now, still nothing.
Also relevant: I was unable to tether for a while on Lollipop. I rooted for a while and used a 3rd party app, which worked fine. Eventually I unrooted to use Android Pay, and found a change to the APN that made tethering work 100% stock(it involved changing the MVNO ID field to 6D38).
Everything was great right up until 6.0. I can't figure out what 6.0 changed that is making it not work. Maybe a permission? Was it the updated radio?

edit you apn. many tmo users got wrong apns on marshmallow as well. since tmo owns metro pcs, tmo was missing apn protocol which is ipv4/ipv6.
I already have that set.
Got it working. I ended up editing the build.prop and adding the noprovisioning=true line.
Nexus 6
Can you tell me how to do this on my nexus 6

Sprint unlocked Note 9 hotspot APN with Magic Box not working...

So, as per normal, I have always added a new APN with the dun option in APN type to enable the hotspot with no issues. I recently moved and the signal wasn't as good as where I moved from. I re-provisioned the phone before getting the magic box adding the new APN. The hotspot worked fine, although it was just slow due to the weak LTE signal.
Now that I have the magic box setup, I can turn on the hotspot and connect to it from another device, however there is no data connection to the internet. If I go 5 minutes down the road to where I lose the connection to the magic box, the hotspot works normally. This isn't just happening on my Note 9, but also on both of my daughter's S8+ phones.
The funny thing is that my wife's old S5 (yes, she is still using an S5) with LOS 14 on it works fine for the hotspot...
Any ideas? It would seem that the Magic Box must have it's own APN setting for a hotspot where the LOS ROM on the S5 ignores the APN settings? Who knows...
